Following the Guide to Truth

What has no meaning cannot be perceived. And meaning always looks within to find itself, and then looks out. All meaning that you give the world outside must thus reflect the sight you saw within; or better, if you saw at all or merely judged against. Vision is the means by which the Holy Spirit translates your nightmares into happy dreams; your wild hallucinations that show you all the fearful outcomes of imagined sin into the calm and reassuring sights with which He would replace them. These gentle sights and sounds are looked on happily, and heard with joy. They are His substitutes for all the terrifying sights and screaming sounds the ego’s purpose brought to your horrified awareness. They step away from sin, reminding you that it is not reality that frightens you, and that the errors which you made can be corrected.

Think but an instant just on this; you can behold the holiness God gave His Son. And never need you think that there is something else for you to see. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.viii.10,11:3-4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The world we perceive is a projection of the mind that has chosen the ego’s purpose — to make separation appear real. Thus perception starts with belief in separation. Beliefs can be changed, so belief in separation can be changed to acceptance of the truth that only Oneness is real.

The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to guide us away from the belief in separation that could never be true to the full awareness that we remain one in the Mind of Love. The Holy Spirit’s guidance is kind and gentle. It helps us recognize that what we thought we wanted in the world of separation really gave us nothing. All we got was empty forms that we tried to give meaning, but what is nothing cannot have meaning.

While we choose the ego’s purpose, we are on an endless search, finding nothing. Ultimately we all come to the point of recognizing there must be a better way to find happiness and peace. Now we become willing to choose another Guide Whose purpose is to lead us to Reality and true meaning. Today we choose to follow the Guide to Love, the Guide to Truth.

Accepting the Wholeness of Our One Self

…healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can understand and recognize.

…to know your Self is the salvation of the world. To free the world from every kind of pain is but to change your mind about yourself. There is no world apart from your ideas because ideas leave not their source, and you maintain the world within your mind in thought.

Yet if you are as God created you, you cannot think apart from Him, nor make what does not share His timelessness and Love. Are these inherent in the world you see? Does it create like Him? Unless it does, it is not real, and cannot be at all. If you are real the world you see is false, for God’s creation is unlike the world in every way. And as it was His Thought by which you were created, so it is your thoughts which made [the world] and must set it free, that you may know the Thoughts you share with God. The basis for all healing is the fact that only Love is real and only Love creates. Love is innocent and Its Creation shares Its innocence. Forgiveness is justified for only innocence is real; there is nothing to judge. Love is formless and all of Its Creation shares Its formlessness.

A world of bodies and forms could never be real. Accepting this seems like a huge leap because the world is all we are consciously aware of. In our minds we have built a wall to keep out the experience of changeless Love, freedom from fear and happiness that is literally out of this world. But we built the wall and we can take it down.

As we are willing to accept that we are wrong about the meaning we are giving the world, we open the door to remembering that we remain as Love created us — whole, complete, safe and innocent. The practice of bringing all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His perception in their place is how we release the world and take down the wall we have built to defend against Love.

Today is another day to practice.

Accepting Love’s Function

…try to understand and accept what [“my only function is the one God gave me”] really means. Today’s idea offers you escape from all your perceived difficulties. It places the key to the door of peace, which you have closed upon yourself, in your own hands. It gives you the answer to all the searching you have done since time began.

“…try to uncover each thought that arises to interfere with it. Note each one as it comes to you, with as little involvement or concern as possible, dismissing each one by telling yourself:

This thought reflects a goal that is preventing me from accepting my only function.

After a while, interfering thoughts will become harder to find. Try, however, to continue a minute or so longer, attempting to catch a few of the idle thoughts that escaped your attention before, but do not strain or make undue effort in doing this. Then tell yourself:

On this clean slate let my true function be written for me.

We accept Love’s function when we do what Love does, which is to extend Love. As we remember that Love is One and that Love shares all Love with all, we are remembering our function. Loving all equally all the time is our function. Because giving is receiving, as we extend Love we are receiving Love. The circle of Love never ends. This is the only function God (Love) has given us. Love sees only Love and extends only Love, without exception.

Today we practice uncovering each thought that interferes with Love’s extension. We hand each thought over to the Holy Spirit, where it dissolves in Love’s Light, because we clearly see that it is just a meaningless thought. The joy that comes with accepting Love’s function fills our heart and mind. Our mind is cleansed of all idols that lead nowhere. We let our mind be healed along with every brother. We are filled with peace and gratitude as we accept Love’s function.

Welcoming God’s Peace

God’s is the only Will. When you have recognized this, you have recognized that your will is His. The belief that conflict is possible has gone. Peace has replaced the strange idea that you are torn by conflicting goals. As an expression of the Will of God, you have no goal but His.

I am at peace.
Nothing can disturb me. My will is God’s.
My will and God’s are one.
God wills peace for His Son.

There is no will but God’s. I seek His peace today.

Peace and happiness are our birthright because, as God’s Son, we were created by the Source of peace and happiness. If we experience anything else, it must be based on a false idea that is the denial of our birthright.

If we want to experience God’s peace and happiness, we need to stop denying our birthright. We need to let go of or forgive our wish to be anything other than the extension of Love that is God’s Son, our Self.

Today we practice recognizing when we are not experiencing God’s peace and bring our perception to the Holy Spirit to receive His correction and welcome God’s peace.

Trust In Our One Self Brings Joy

Your present trust in Him is the defense that promises a future undisturbed, without a trace of sorrow, and with joy that constantly increases, as this life becomes a holy instant, set in time, but heeding only immortality. Let no defenses but your present trust direct the future, and this life becomes a meaningful encounter with the truth that only your defenses would conceal.

Without defenses, you become a light which Heaven gratefully acknowledges to be its own. And it will lead you on in ways appointed for your happiness according to the ancient plan, begun when time was born. Your followers will join their light with yours, and it will be increased until the world is lighted up with joy. And gladly will our brothers lay aside their cumbersome defenses, which availed them nothing and could only terrify. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 135, W-pI.135.19-20. Everyone in the world is seeking happiness. If we think happiness can be found in forms of the world, our search is unending, for we are searching where happiness cannot be found. Yet happiness beyond description is available to us in each now moment, not in the world but in our unity with our Creator.

Our Source is happiness and shares all happiness with us, Its creation. We claim our happiness by putting our present trust in our one Self, united with our Creator. Nothing else is worthy of our trust. Nothing else can offer us perfect happiness and peace that cannot be disturbed.

As we practice bringing all our thoughts to our one Self to be interpreted from the perspective of the Christ Mind, we are placing our trust where trust is justified. This is done in each now moment. We let go of trying to use the past as the basis for our interpretation. We let go of planning for an unknown future. We build our trust that the future will be the same as the present moment — safe in the changeless Love which fills us with limitless joy.

Remembering We Are Safe and Loved

…think of yourself as completely at peace with everyone and everything, safe in a world that protects you and loves you, and that you love in return. Try to feel safety surrounding you, hovering over you and holding you up. Try to believe, however briefly, that nothing can harm you in any way.

Love holds no grievances. When I let all my grievances
go I will know I am perfectly safe.

Love holds no grievances. I would wake to my Self by

Thinking of our self as perfectly at peace with everyone and everything seems like a fantasy. Yet the actual fantasy is believing that we are not at peace, that we are vulnerable and always in conflict. God created us like Himself, sharing His perfect peace with us. Believing we are a body, vulnerable to harm, is a grievance against God. It is refusing to accept what God has given us.

This is why letting go of grievances is the key that will bring us back to the awareness that we are perfectly safe always. We are loved always. We are love and loving always. As we let go of grievances, we welcome God’s gifts and remember Who we are.

We Seek for Innocence Now

Perception has a focus. It is this that gives consistency to what you see. Change but this focus, and what you behold will change accordingly. Your vision now will shift, to give support to the intent which has replaced the one you held before. Remove your focus on your brother’s sins, and you experience the peace that comes from faith in sinlessness. This faith receives its only sure support from what you see in others past their sins. For their mistakes, if focused on, are witnesses to sins in you. And you will not transcend their sight and see the sinlessness that lies beyond.

We seek for innocence and nothing else. We seek for it with no concern but now.

As we consistently ask to see as Holy Spirit sees, we see the Light of Truth in everyone… We see the Holy Spirit in everyone… We see that they are still perfect Love as God created them…

We practice this today in each now moment. If we notice our intent slipping away, we just renew our focus and dedication to see as Holy Spirit sees. We want to see the Truth. We want to feel God’s peace and joy as we see with Him. We want to feel and extend the Love for every brother as the Holy Spirit does.

As this practice gets stronger and stronger with our single intent, we feel so loved… This Love overflows continuously to every brother we encounter or even think of. Love carries us through the day and our happiness overflows into every aspect of our lives. All this comes with seeking to see only innocence now.
