Our footsteps have not been unwavering, and doubts have made us walk uncertainly and slowly on the road this course sets forth. But now we hasten on, for we approach a greater certainty, a firmer purpose and a surer goal.
Steady our feet, our Father. Let our doubts be quiet and our holy minds be still, and speak to us. We have no words to give to You. We would but listen to Your Word, and make it ours. Lead our practicing as does a father lead a little child along a way he does not understand. Yet does he follow, sure that he is safe because his father leads the way for him.
So do we bring our practicing to You. And if we stumble, You will raise us up. If we forget the way, we count upon Your sure remembering. We wander off, but You will not forget to call us back. Quicken our footsteps now, that we may walk more certainly and quickly unto You. And we accept the Word You offer us to unify our practicing, as we review the thoughts that You have given us.
God is but Love, and therefore so am I.
This Self alone knows Love. This Self alone is perfectly consistent in Its Thoughts; knows Its Creator, understands Itself, is perfect in Its knowledge and Its Love, and never changes from Its constant state of union with Its Father and Itself. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson Review V, W-pI.revV.1:5-3:6;4:3-5)
The ego tells us that God is judgmental, punitive and may, at a whim, end our life and condemn us to hell. This image is certainly frightening. But it’s really the ego’s projection of its own image. The ego’s version of eternity is unforgivable guilt. It is this ego fantasy that needs to be undone for us to remember the changeless of God’s Love.
Reminding ourselves frequently that “God is but Love, and therefore, so am I” is a way to undo the ego’s definition of God. Love does not condemn. Love is one and there is nothing real outside of Love. Love does not change nor come and go with a whim. It has no degrees or variations. It gives wholly of Itself with no limitations as It extends Itself to all.
This is the Love that we are, united with our Creator. This is the Love that will bring us certainty, a sense of safety and peace that cannot be disturbed. It brings the gift of joy beyond description. This is what we claim when we remind ourselves, “God is but Love and therefore so am I.”

We ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world’s appearances. We ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. We ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow. And we have the thought [I rest in God] that will answer our asking with what we request.
This is the day of peace. You rest in God, and while the world is torn by winds of hate your rest remains completely undisturbed. Yours is the rest of truth. Appearances cannot intrude on you. You call to all to join you in your rest, and they will hear and come to you because you rest in God. They will not hear another voice than yours because you gave your voice to God, and now you rest in Him and let Him speak through you.
You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 109, W-pI.109.1;4;8. See also ACIM Lesson 109 Insights.)
It is God’s Will that we have all of His peace, all His joy and all His Love. It is all available to us in the present moment. But when the events of our world experienced through the body capture our attention, we are interpreting based on perceptions of the past. These perceptions are illusions. But using them to interpret our present experience brings the past to the present. This process blinds us to the eternal presence of peace that is the truth now.
Each time we remind ourselves that we rest in God, we loosen our attachment to the past and welcome God’s gifts in the present moment. “I rest in God” reminds us that what we have been perceiving in the world is not real. We remind ourselves to question these perceptions and welcome the peace of God. As we welcome God’s peace, the seeming reality of the world fades. Practicing this thought will help us reach the point where we overlook all appearances, for we are certain of our safety in our Home in God.
Today we will remind ourselves often, “I rest in God.”

Perhaps you think that different kinds of love are possible. Perhaps you think there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that; a way of loving one, another way of loving still another. Love is one. It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person or a circumstance. It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.
No law the world obeys can help you grasp love’s meaning. What the world believes was made to hide love’s meaning, and to keep it dark and secret. There is not one principle the world upholds but violates the truth of what love is, and what you are as well.
Seek not within the world to find your Self. Love is not found in darkness and in death. Yet it is perfectly apparent to the eyes that see and ears that hear love’s Voice. Today we practice making free your mind of all the laws you think you must obey; of all the limits under which you live, and all the changes that you think are part of human destiny. Today we take the largest single step this course requests in your advance towards its established goal.
At least three times an hour think of one who makes the journey with you, and who came to learn what you must learn. And as he comes to mind, give him this message from your Self:
I bless you, brother, with the Love of God, which I would
share with you. For I would learn the joyous lesson that
there is no love but God’s and yours and mine and everyone’s. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 127,T-pI.127.1;5-6;12:2-5. See also ACIM Lesson 127 Insights.)
It is helpful to know that Love cannot be found in the world we experience with a body. The world’s laws deny the laws of Love.
But the Voice of Love is ever present in our mind to be called upon in every moment to learn what Love is. We need to turn to this Voice for guidance. This Voice will teach us to see beyond the forms of the world and to hear beyond the raucous noise of the world. The body’s senses cannot perceive the oneness of Love. The Voice of Love is the Voice of our true Self, for Love and our Self are one in truth.

It is your weakness that sees through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to behold the likeness of itself; the small, the weak, the sickly and the dying, those in need, the helpless and afraid, the sad, the poor, the starving and the joyless. These are seen through eyes that cannot see and cannot bless.
Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. It brings the light in which your Self appears. In darkness you perceive a self that is not there. Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light.
Strength comes from truth, and shines with light its Source has given it; weakness reflects the darkness of its maker [ego]. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 92, W-pI.92.3:3-5:1. See also ACIM Lesson 92 Insights.)
Here the Course defines Light and Strength as attributes of God and His Love. As it says in the introduction to the Course, “Only Love is real.” Anything other than Love must be an illusion and therefore has no power of its own. Only our belief in the reality of appearances seems to give them strength.
God gave all of Himself and all His attributes to His Son — our Self. We were given the Light of God in our Creation. It remains the truth of What we are. This Light and Strength remain with us eternally. It is only a mistaken belief that makes it unknown to us. We need to remind ourselves that Light and Strength abide in us because we have convinced ourselves that we live in the darkness of the ego.
This is part of the process the Course is leading us through to undo our mistaken beliefs. As we remember that God’s Light and Strength abide in us, the darkness of the ego thought system is dispelled. We free ourselves from wandering in darkness and awaken to the Light of our true Self.

Father, I thought I wandered from Your Will, defied it, broke its laws, and interposed a second will more powerful than Yours. Yet what I am in truth is but Your Will, extended and extending. This am I, and this will never change. As You are One, so am I one with You. And this I chose in my creation, where my will became forever one with Yours. That choice was made for all eternity. It cannot change, and be in opposition to itself. Father, my will is Yours. And I am safe, untroubled and serene, in endless joy, because it is Your Will that it be so.
Today we will accept our union with each other and our Source. We have no will apart from His, and all of us are one because His Will is shared by all of us. Through [His Will] we recognize that we are one. Through [our oneness] we find our way at last to God. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 329,W-pII.329. See also ACIM Lesson 329 Insights.)
We were created in perfect safety, perfect peace and endless joy. This is God’s Will for us. And His Will does not change. If we experience anything other than this, we are perceiving an illusion and believing it is real. It is a signal that we need to choose a different Guide, one Whose only purpose is to remind us that God’s Will is ours.
No wish to be different will ever fix the empty space left by our denial of God’s Will. The choice for a separate identity is the choice for a loveless world, which will never satisfy. We accepted Love’s Creation as ours, so Love is What we are. Happiness and peace come with accepting God’s Will as ours.

The test of everything on earth is simply this; “What is it for?” The answer makes it what it is for you. It has no meaning of itself, yet you can give reality to it, according to the purpose that you serve. Here you are but means, along with it. God is a Means as well as End. In Heaven, means and end are one, and one with Him. This is the state of true creation, found not within time, but in eternity.
A co-creator with the Father must have a Son. Yet must this Son have been created like Himself. A perfect being, all-encompassing and all-encompassed, nothing to add and nothing taken from; not born of size nor place nor time, nor held to limits or uncertainties of any kind. Here do the means and end unite as one, nor does this one have any end at all. All this is true, and yet it has no meaning to anyone who still retains one unlearned lesson in his memory, one thought with purpose still uncertain, or one wish with a divided aim.
…what is yours will come to you when you are ready. Here [in the world] are the means and the purpose separate because they were so made and so perceived. And therefore do we deal with [means and purpose] as if they were [separate]. It is essential it be kept in mind that all perception still is upside down until its purpose has been understood. Perception does not seem to be a means. And it is this that makes it hard to grasp the whole extent to which it must depend on what you see it for. Perception seems to teach you what you see. Yet it but witnesses to what you taught. It is the outward picture of a wish; an image that you wanted to be true. (A Course in Miracles, T-24.VII.6:1-7;7;8:2-10. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
In the world it seems that we learn from what we perceive with the body. We judge based on what we have learned from our perceptions in the past. But the Course is telling us that our perceptions are just outward pictures of what we want to be true.
If we want to be a separate, special identity, our perceptions will seem to confirm that we are separate. But the oneness of Love which created us like Itself is all that is real. The perception of separation could never be true. The lessons of separation our perceptions have taught us are false. They were made to justify a false substitute for the one Self created by God.
This is why we must practice turning over all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit for his interpretation. We must ask the Holy Spirit of everything, “What is this for? What is its purpose?” The Light of the Holy Spirit’s vision will show us what is true and what is false. Because only Love is real, the truth in every situation is either true or some form of a call for Love. The Holy Spirit will show us how to respond to every call for Love with Love. This is how we learn that we are Love and nothing else.

I love you for the truth in you, as God does. Your deceptions may deceive you, but they cannot deceive me. Knowing what you are, I cannot doubt you. I hear only the Holy Spirit in you, Who speaks to me through you. If you would hear me, hear my brothers in whom God’s Voice speaks. The answer to all prayers lies in them. You will be answered as you hear the answer in everyone. Do not listen to anything else or you will not hear truly.
Believe in [the truth in] your brothers because I believe in you, and you will learn that my belief in you is justified. Believe in me by believing in [the truth in] them, for the sake of what God gave them. They will answer you if you learn to ask only truth of them. Do not ask for blessings without blessing them, for only in this way can you learn how blessed you are. By following this way you are seeking the truth in you. This is not going beyond yourself but toward yourself. Hear only God’s Answer in His Sons, and you are answered. (A Course in Miracles, T-9.II.7-8. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
We interpret the words we hear or read based on our past learning. These interpretations perpetuate the ego thought system. It perpetuates the belief in fear, guilt and loss. Most importantly, these perceptions are projections of what we believe is true about ourselves. This process is a closed loop that denies the truth in our brothers and ourselves.
This is why it is essential for our healing to practice turning over all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His true perception. The Holy Spirit knows that we remain only Love as God created us. He is not deceived by perceptions of separation, guilt and fear. If we pay attention to the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of our brothers, we will learn to see them as one with us in Love. As He disregards the ego’s interpretations of words and behavior, He sees only the truth of Love in every brother.
When we accept the Holy Spirit’s vision, we recognize our brothers as one with us. With this recognition we learn that we are only Love. This is the message every brother offers us if we accept the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of the ego’s interpretations. Thus every brother offers us the means to awaken to the truth of What we are. We need only let the Holy Spirit show us the truth in our brother. This is the practice that will free us from fear and guilt.
