Remembering the Love We Are

You are at home in God, dreaming of exile but perfectly capable of awakening to reality. Is it your decision to do so? You recognize from your own experience that what you see in dreams you think is real while you are asleep. Yet the instant you waken you realize that everything that seemed to happen in the dream did not happen at all. You do not think this strange, even though all the laws of what you awaken to were violated while you slept. Is it not possible that you merely shifted from one dream to another, without really waking?

Would you bother to reconcile what happened in conflicting dreams, or would you dismiss both together if you discovered that reality is in accord with neither? You do not remember being awake. When you hear the Holy Spirit you may feel better because loving then seems possible to you, but you do not remember yet that [loving] once was so. And it is in this remembering that you will know [loving] can be so again. What is possible has not yet been accomplished. Yet what has once been is so now, if it is eternal. When you remember [awaken], you will know that what you remember is eternal, and therefore is now.” (A Course in Miracles, T-10.I.2-3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The world we experience through the body is unreliable. We may have circumstances we like but we cannot count on them lasting. Things seemingly beyond our control can happen that threaten the happiness we seek. This changeability is a telltale sign that what we are experiencing is a dream.

Truth is eternal and changeless. What changes cannot be real. The comparison of what we experience in the world with dreaming helps us see that there is an alternative. We are not stuck in the dream but can awaken to the eternal Love that we are in God. To awaken we need to recognize we are dreaming.

As we practice asking the Holy Spirit for His interpretation of our perceptions, with willingness to exchange His for ours, we learn to let go of the dream that truly offers us nothing that we really want. We want the peace of God. We want to experience the joy that comes with being and extending God’s Love.

Today let us be vigilant for Love. Let us practice in our experiences throughout the day pausing and asking for help to see as Love sees. Let us practice answering calls for Love with Love. This practice will bring Light into our dream and lead us to awaken to the fact that in truth we are already eternally Home in God.

Accepting the Changeless Love We Are

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.

This does Atonement teach, and demonstrates the Oneness of God’s Son is unassailed by his belief he knows not what he is. Today accept Atonement, not to change reality, but merely to accept the truth about yourself, and go your way rejoicing in the endless Love of God. It is but this that we are asked to do. It is but this that we will do today.

I will accept Atonement for myself,
For I remain as God created me.

We have not lost the knowledge that God gave to us when He created us like Him. We can remember it for everyone, for in creation are all minds as one. And in our memory is the recall how dear our brothers are to us in truth, how much a part of us is every mind, how faithful they have really been to us, and how our Father’s Love contains them all. We were created as perfect Love. What we are is as changeless as the Love that created us. The truth in us sees only truth everywhere, for what is not true does not exist. Thus the Love we are sees only Love.

Our experience in the world of fear and guilt, conflict, lack, loss and lovelessness is just a false belief, a made up identity. This experience is just role playing, a game of make-believe. We have become so engrossed in this fanciful game that we now believe it is reality. Belief makes experience but it does not change Reality. It is this fact that guarantees we can escape from the game of separation and return to the joy of our true Nature.

We can return to remembering we are the Love of God that we never truly left. When we affirm that we want to accept the Atonement for ourselves, we are claiming truth and undoing the belief in the lie of separation.

Exchanging Guilt for Eternal Joy

Delay does not matter in eternity, but it is tragic in time. You have elected to be in time rather than eternity, and therefore believe you are in time. Yet your election is both free and alterable. You do not belong in time. Your place is only in eternity, where God Himself placed you forever.

Guilt feelings are the preservers of time. They induce fears of retaliation or abandonment, and thus ensure that the future will be like the past. This is the ego’s continuity. [Guilt] gives the ego a false sense of security by believing that you cannot escape from it. But you can and must. God offers you the continuity of eternity in exchange. When you choose to make this exchange, you will simultaneously exchange guilt for joy, viciousness for love, and pain for peace. My role is only to unchain your will and set it free. Your ego cannot accept this freedom, and will oppose it at every possible moment and in every possible way. And as [the ego’s] maker, you recognize what it can do because you gave it the power to do it.

Remember the Kingdom always, and remember that you who are part of the Kingdom cannot be lost. The Mind that was in me is in you, for God creates with perfect fairness [equality]. Let the Holy Spirit remind you always of His fairness, and let me teach you how to share [equality] with your brothers. (A Course in Miracles, T-5.VI.1:3-3:3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Guilt is what makes the world seem to spin in time. It makes the past seem real and capable of having an effect on the future. If guilt is real, then retaliation or abandonment must follow in the future and fear is justified. This is accepted as reality in the world. We do not question the basic premise this “reality” is based on — the belief that separation is real.

But this belief is untrue and therefore our experience of a world of separation and guilt is not real. This is the message the Holy Spirit was given us to teach us that we remain at one in the eternal, changeless Mind of God. As we accept His lessons, we exchange “guilt for joy, viciousness for love, and pain for peace.” We accept our true Will, which we share with God and all our brothers equally.

Today we practice accepting the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of all our perceptions that we may learn to exchange the ego’s “will” for God’s Will.

An Accelerated Path of Return to Love

Father, today I would but hear Your Voice. In deepest silence I would come to You, to hear Your Voice and to receive Your Word. I have no prayer but this: I come to You to ask You for the truth. And truth is but Your Will, which I would share with You today.

Today we let no ego thoughts direct our words or actions. When such thoughts occur, we quietly step back and look at them, and then we let them go. We do not want what they would bring with them. And so we do not choose to keep them. They are silent now. And in the stillness, hallowed by His Love, God speaks to us and tells us of our will, as we have chosen to remember Him. Here we have a concise summary of the process of true forgiveness: When ego thoughts occur, “we quietly step back and look at them, and then we let them go.” This is how we open our minds to the truth that will set us free from the ego’s tyranny of fear and guilt.

The first step is to recognize ego thoughts. A key symptom of ego thoughts is lack of peace because ego thoughts always deny the peace of God. Whenever we recognize our peace has been disturbed, it is time to step back, look at the thoughts and turn them over to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His guidance and help to let them go.

This every day, all day, practice will accelerate our return to the recognition and certainty that we are at Home in Heaven. We are safe in Love. Our will is joined with God’s Will with the sole focus of being and extending Love.

Accepting God’s Strength as Ours

The world gives rise but to defensiveness. For threat brings anger, anger makes attack seem reasonable, honestly provoked, and righteous in the name of self-defense.

Defenselessness is strength. It testifies to recognition of the Christ in you. Perhaps you will recall the text maintains that choice is always made between Christ’s strength and your own weakness, seen apart from Him. Defenselessness can never be attacked, because it recognizes strength so great attack is folly, or a silly game a tired child might play, when he becomes too sleepy to remember what he wants.

We look past dreams today, and recognize that we need no defense because we are created unassailable, without all thought or wish or dream in which attack has any meaning. Now we cannot fear, for we have left all fearful thoughts behind. And in defenselessness we stand secure, serenely certain of our safety now, sure of salvation; sure we will fulfill our chosen purpose, as our ministry extends its holy blessing through the world.

Be still a moment, and in silence think how holy is your purpose, how secure you rest, untouchable within its light. God’s ministers have chosen that the truth be with them. A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 153,(W-pI.153.2:1-2;6;9:1-10:2. See also ACIM Lesson 153 Insights.)

When we believe we are a body, we automatically have an attitude of defensiveness, because we believe the body is weak, vulnerable and needs protection. But as the Course emphasizes, we are not a body. Accepting this fact frees us from the fear that comes with believing we are a vulnerable body.

It is not God’s Will that we be separate, alone and imprisoned in a body. Only illusions could seem to make this belief real. We feel no need to defend when we accept that we are in truth God’s Son and all God’s strength is ours. God’s changelessness is ours. What is changeless is invulnerable. When we accept that God’s Will is ours, we accept our Identity as His Son.

Our true Identity is a fact that cannot be changed. But we have hidden It from our awareness with dreams of separation. It is these dreams that must be forgiven to let go of the veil that hides our true Identity. As we choose the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our perceptions, we move to the experience of knowing God’s peace and joy and Love are ours eternally. We dedicate today to choosing Holy Spirit’s vision.

Gratitude for Our Unbreakable Link with God

A day devoted now to gratitude will add the benefit of some insight into the real extent of all the gains which you have made; the gifts you have received. Be glad today, in loving thankfulness, your Father has not left you to yourself, nor let you wander in the dark alone. Be grateful He has saved you from the self you thought you made to take the place of Him and His creation. Give Him thanks today.

Give thanks that He has not abandoned you, and that His Love forever will remain shining on you, forever without change. Give thanks as well that you are changeless, for the Son He loves is changeless as Himself. Be grateful you are saved. Be glad you have a function in salvation to fulfill.

Today we smile on everyone we see, and walk with lightened footsteps as we go to do what is appointed us to do.

Receive His thanks, and you will understand how lovingly He holds you in His Mind, how deep and limitless His care for you, how perfect is His gratitude to you. Remember hourly to think of Him, and give Him thanks for everything He gave His Son, that he might rise above the world, remembering his Father and his Self. Because we are as changeless as our Creator, we only need to be saved from the illusion of a separate self we have made up. We need only accept the truth to know that we are free of the limitations of the ego thought system.

While we believe we are a limited self, it is helpful to be assured that our Creator still Loves us without limit or condition. As we express gratitude for the certainty of God’s Love, it reinforces the truth of this in our troubled mind. Everything that disturbs our peace, seems to be cause for guilt or fear, comes solely from believing in a false identity.

We are grateful today that no matter what we may dream, the dream cannot change our Reality. Though we may seem to be alone in our dream, our Creator is still with us in our mind. The certainty of God’s Love in our mind guarantees our safety. We can rest assured that we are safe in the Heart of God.

Seeing Love’s Light in Everyone

Grandeur is of God, and only of Him. Therefore it is in you. Whenever you become aware of it, however dimly, you abandon the ego automatically, because in the presence of the grandeur of God the meaninglessness of the ego becomes perfectly apparent. When this occurs, even though it does not understand it, the ego believes that its “enemy” has struck, and attempts to offer gifts to induce you to return to its “protection.” Self-inflation is the only offering it can make. The grandiosity of the ego is its alternative to the grandeur of God. Which will you choose?

Grandiosity is always a cover for despair. It is without hope because it is not real. It is an attempt to counteract your littleness, based on the belief that the littleness is real. Without this belief grandiosity is meaningless, and you could not possibly want it. The essence of grandiosity is competitiveness, because it always involves attack. It is a delusional attempt to outdo, but not to undo.

The ego is immobilized in the presence of God’s grandeur, because His grandeur establishes your freedom.

From your grandeur you can only bless, because your grandeur is your abundance. By blessing you hold it in your mind, protecting it from illusions and keeping yourself in the Mind of God. Remember always that you cannot be anywhere except in the Mind of God. When you forget this, you will despair and you will attack. (A Course in Miracles, T-9.VIII.1:-2:6;4:1;5. The grandeur of God is in us because our true Self remains united with Its Creator. Our sense of vulnerability, uncertainty and guilt comes from believing in the ego thought system of separation. In Reality, separation is impossible. But if we believe we are separate, this sense of vulnerability and isolation is automatic.

The ego is in competition with God for our attention. It has no substance and no strength of its own. It depends entirely on our belief and our identification with it to seem to have any effect at all. But the ego’s effects are meaningless because they are based on the false premise that separation is real. The moment we accept our unity with our Creator we accept our true grandeur, which shines away the dark beliefs of the ego.

It is helpful to realize that when we feel defensive, competitive, depressed or alone, we are denying our innate grandeur that comes from our oneness with God. We are believing in a false image of our self. By asking the Holy Spirit to be the interpreter of all our perceptions, we learn to overlook displays of grandiosity and see beyond them to the grandeur of the Light of Love that is in everyone. The more we welcome this vision, the more we will experience the peace and joy of God. We will bless everyone by seeing the truth in them.
