Practicing the Presence

In time, with practice, you will never cease to think of Him, and hear His loving Voice guiding your footsteps into quiet ways, where you will walk in true defenselessness. For you will know that Heaven goes with you.

We will remind ourselves that He remains beside us through the day, and never leaves our weakness unsupported by His strength. We call upon His strength each time we feel the threat of our defenses undermine our certainty of purpose. We will pause a moment, as He tells us, “I am here.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 153, W-pI.153.18:1-2;19:4-6. See also ACIM Lesson 153 Insights.)

In this world it seems that we are alone and have to fend for ourselves to survive. We are learning from the Course that this is a false idea. The truth is we are eternally in God’s Presence. We have taught ourselves to believe that a lie is true. So we feel that we are alone and vulnerable when in fact, we are safely held in the Love of God.

Now it is time to let go of the lesson that attempted to turn truth upside down. We do this with the hourly and moment by moment practice of giving our attention to the Holy Spirit in our mind. We offer each disturbing thought or perception to the Holy Spirit for His loving correction. As we welcome the Light of truth, the dark shadows of false ideas fade away and we remember that we remain eternally in Love’s Presence.

We take time frequently though the day to give thanks for the previous hour when we let false ideas be undone by Love’s Presence in our minds. And we dedicate the coming hour to the practice of bringing every disturbing thought to Love’s Presence for healing. This is how we take the path that returns us to our Home in Heaven.
