Love Knows No Limits

It is only the awareness of the body that makes love seem limited. For the body is a limit on love. The belief in limited love was its origin, and it was made to limit the unlimited. Think not that this is merely allegorical, for it was made to limit you. Can you who see yourself within a body know yourself as an idea? Everything you recognize you identify with externals, something outside itself. You cannot even think of God without a body, or in some form you think you recognize.

The body is a tiny fence around a little part of a glorious and complete idea.

Each body seems to house a separate mind, a disconnected thought, living alone and in no way joined to the Thought by which it was created. Each tiny fragment seems to be self-contained, needing another for some things, but by no means totally dependent on its one Creator for everything; needing the whole to give it any meaning, for by itself it does mean nothing. In truth we are all one Love, joined in the unity of the Self God created as His one Son. There are no differences or distinctions in Love’s oneness; nothing that can be set apart and remain Love.

This changeless oneness cannot be experienced in the world. Our identification with the body distinct from other bodies makes us unaware of our unity in Love. Yet our lack of awareness does not change our unity in Love. Love created us like Itself. Because only Love is real, nothing but Love exists in truth. Our true Self knows no limits. Because It is Love, It is eternally extending that Love to all. Love is our strength, our very Life.

Our attempt to limit Love by identifying with the body leaves us feeling alone and vulnerable. Yet God’s strength is still ours. His strength is available to us in every now moment. As we learn to recognize our true Identity is Love, we realize the body has no meaning of its own. All the things that seem to disturb us in the world stem from believing our little self, fenced off by a body, is real. This belief can be changed.

We have been given a Teacher in our mind to distinguish the false images of separation from the unity of Love that we are. With His help, we learn to let go of our attachment to bodies and what they do. We learn to look past appearances of form in the world to the Light of Love in everyone. With this vision comes increasing peace and happiness.

The Bridge of Return to Love

The Holy Spirit is described as the remaining Communication Link between God and His separated Sons. In order to fulfill this special function the Holy Spirit has assumed a dual function. He knows because He is part of God; He perceives because He was sent to save humanity. He is the great correction principle; the bringer of true perception, the inherent power of the vision of Christ. He is the light in which the forgiven world is perceived; in which the face of Christ alone is seen. He never forgets the Creator or His creation. He never forgets the Son of God. He never forgets you. And He brings the Love of your Father to you in an eternal shining that will never be obliterated because God has put it there.

The Holy Spirit abides in the part of your mind that is part of the Christ Mind. He represents your Self and your Creator, Who are One. He speaks for God and also for you, being joined with Both. And therefore it is He Who proves Them One. He seems to be a Voice, for in that form He speaks God’s Word to you. He seems to be a Guide through a far country, for you need that form of help. He seems to be whatever meets the needs you think you have. But He is not deceived when you perceive your self entrapped in needs you do not have. It is from these He would deliver you. It is from these [illusionary needs] that He would make you safe. (A Course in Miracles, C-6.3-4)

True communication can only occur in the oneness of formless Love. It is the eternal sharing of unlimited Love.

The world we experience is the effect of the ego’s decision to limit love by separating from it. True communication in Love is broken by this limitation. It leaves us feeling that we lack Love. The Course defines sin as lack of love (T-1.IV.3:1), which is experienced as guilt or sin.

The Holy Spirit’s function is to heal this false perception. The core belief in separation is disguised by the ego in many forms. We see it in our judgments about others and ourselves. Even perceiving a brother is a judgment that makes him appear separate from us. It is a reflection of our own belief in being separate. All the “problems” we experience in the world stem from our belief in being separate.

The Holy Spirit understands that we believe we have problems. He knows they are unreal and He understands that we believe they are real. As God’s Voice, the Holy Spirit offers us help to change our interpretation of the problems we perceive. He offers us a way of seeing adapted to where we believe we are in a form that we can accept. This is His function that bridges between His knowing of God’s formless Love and his understanding of our perceptions of differences, separation and lack of Love.

The practice of beginning the day with a willingness to receive Holy Spirit’s Help and asking for His Help when needed throughout the day will help us along the bridge of return to Love. Each time we accept the Holy Spirit’s Help leads us toward the gates of Heaven, where all judgments and beliefs in separation have been let go and we are welcomed into God’s Love.

The Path to Invulnerability

Have you really considered how many opportunities you have had to gladden yourself, and how many of them you have refused? There is no limit to the power of a Son of God, but he can limit the expression of his power as much as he chooses. Your mind and mine can unite in shining your ego away, releasing the strength of God into everything you think and do. Do not settle for anything less than this, and refuse to accept anything but this as your goal. Watch your mind carefully for any beliefs that hinder its [releasing the strength of God into everything you think and do] accomplishment, and step away from [these beliefs]. Judge how well you have done this by your own feelings, for this is the one right use of judgment. Judgment, like any other defense, can be used to attack or protect; to hurt or to heal. The ego should be brought to judgment and found wanting there. Without your own allegiance, protection and love, the ego cannot exist. Let it be judged truly and you must [inevitably] withdraw allegiance, protection and love from [the ego].

You are a mirror of truth, in which God Himself shines in perfect light. To the ego’s dark glass you need but say, “I will not look there because I know these images are not true.” Then let the Holy One shine on you in peace, knowing that this and only this must be. His Mind shone on you in your creation and brought your mind into being. His Mind still shines on you and must shine through you. Your ego cannot prevent Him from shining on you, but it can prevent you from letting Him shine through you. (A Course in Miracles, T-4.IV.8-9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego has no strength of its own. It depends entirely on our belief and allegiance to it for its seeming strength. Without our belief in it, the ego would simply cease to seem to be. We release ourselves to be the Love that created us by withdrawing our belief in the ego.

God has given us a Teacher in our mind Who will show us that the ego has no power, no substance. We need only be willing to offer our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to have them exchanged for the Holy Spirit’s vision. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s judgment of reality as our own, we accept God’s strength as ours. The ego’s seeming strength diminishes in the Light of God’s strength.

The daily, moment by moment practice of letting the Holy Spirit guide us in all things restores our awareness of the strength of God in us. We allow God’s Love to shine through us. It is the means to transition from the ego’s fear and vulnerability to our true Self’s Love and invulnerability in God.

Remembering We Are at Home in Love

I seek my own Identity, and find It in these words: “Love, which created me, is what I am.” Now need I seek no more. Love has prevailed. So still It waited for my coming home, that I will turn away no longer from the holy face of Christ. And what I look upon attests the truth of the Identity I sought to lose, but which my Father has kept safe for me.

Father, I seek the peace You gave as mine in my creation. What was given then must be here now, for my creation was apart from time, and still remains beyond all change. The peace in which Your Son was born into Your Mind is shining there unchanged. I am as You created me. I need but call on You to find the peace You gave. It is Your Will that gave it to Your Son. Our Identity is Love. Love is one and extends forever, without limit. God guarantees that the Self we are cannot be divided and cannot be limited.

Inherent in this changelessness is perfect peace. There is no change to be feared or defended against. Only the belief that we have changed ourselves by disconnecting from our Creator makes fear and change seem possible.

This belief makes illusions that seem to confirm that we are no longer the Love that God created us to be. Thankfully God did not allow this change to actually occur.

We can return to our original state as God created us by letting go of the false belief that we are separate. As we let go of that belief (forgive), we see the face of Christ. We see the innocence of Love reflected back to us, which reminds us of our true Identity as Love and nothing else. Forgiveness removes our self-made barriers to Love. And we remember we are at Home in Love.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Vision of Innocence

Here is the answer! Would you stand outside while all of Heaven waits for you within? Forgive and be forgiven. As you give you will receive. There is no plan but this for the salvation of the Son of God.

Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace. Forgiveness is the means by which [a happy world] comes to take the place of hell. In quietness it rises up to greet your open eyes, and fill your heart with deep tranquility as ancient truths, forever newly born, arise in your awareness. What you will remember then can never be described. Yet your forgiveness offers it to you.

Forgiveness offers everything I want.
Today I have accepted this as true.
Today I have received the gifts of God.

God’s Love is our Home. We already have all of His Love. Forgiveness clears the barriers we have made in our mind against the awareness of Love’s presence.

We give the gift of forgiveness by accepting Holy Spirit’s help to reinterpret our perceptions of guilt and fear. We cannot forgive while we believe our mistaken perceptions are true. Forgiveness is the Holy Spirit’s gift to us when we are willing to set aside our judgments; when we are willing to remember that we do not know what anything means.

We receive of the gift of a happy world when we accept Holy Spirit’s help. We receive this gift by joining with the Holy Spirit’s vision of innocence, seen in every brother.

Today We Accept the Holy Spirit’s Help

Everything God wills is not only possible, but has already happened. And that is why the past has gone. It never happened in reality. Only in your mind, which thought it did, is [the past’s] undoing needful.

Prepare you now for the undoing of what never was. If you already understood the difference between truth and illusion, the Atonement would have no meaning. The holy instant, the holy relationship, the Holy Spirit’s teaching, and all the means by which salvation is accomplished, would have no purpose. For they are all but aspects of the plan to change your dreams of fear to happy dreams, from which you waken easily to knowledge. Put yourself not in charge of this, for you cannot distinguish between advance and retreat. Some of your greatest advances you have judged as failures, and some of your deepest retreats you have evaluated as success.

Never approach the holy instant after you have tried to remove all fear and hatred from your mind. That is [the holy instant’s] function. Never attempt to overlook your guilt before you ask the Holy Spirit’s help. That is His function. Your part is only to offer Him a little willingness to let Him remove all fear and hatred, and to be forgiven. On your little faith, joined with His understanding, He will build your part in the Atonement and make sure that you fulfill it easily. And with Him, you will build a ladder planted in the solid rock of faith, and rising even to Heaven. Nor will you use it to ascend to Heaven alone. (A Course in Miracles, T-18.IV.8:4-7;V.1-2.. To move from the dream of fear and guilt to the happy dream requires only that we be willing to ask for and accept the Holy Spirit’s help. It is only this little willingness that is required of us. It is important that we not try to do more than this on our own. From our limited perception in the dream, we cannot know how to forgive. Forgiveness is the Holy Spirit’s function.

Our willingness to ask for His help opens our mind to the experience of forgiveness. Under His guidance we learn to see past our interpretations of appearances. We learn that there is only Love or a call for Love in every moment. The Holy Spirit will help us learn this. If there is a call for Love, He will guide us to respond with Love in the way that is most helpful for all concerned. The more we realize that we do not know what anything we perceive in the world means, the more willing we are to receive the Holy Spirit’s healing lessons that turn our dream of fear into a happy dream.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s guidance in everything we do or think. Thus we become part of the Atonement that heals the world.

The Gift of True Forgiveness

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? And if I see him sinful I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. For He alone gives judgment in Your Name.

Forgiveness looks on sinlessness alone, and judges not. Through this I come to You. Judgment will bind my eyes and make me blind. Yet love, reflected in forgiveness here, reminds me You have given me a way to find Your peace again. I am redeemed when I elect to follow in this way. You have not left me comfortless. I have within me both the memory of You, and One Who leads me to it. Father, I would hear Your Voice and find Your peace today. For I would love my own Identity, and find in It the memory of You. Perception starts with what we believe we are. We project this belief on the world to make our beliefs seem true. Because our belief can change, our perception is changeable. With the help of God’s Voice, we can learn to let go of the mistaken belief that we are separate. As we accept the Love we are, we perceive a loving world.

The Love that our true Self is never changes. We bring this Love to the world through forgiveness, through letting go of the false belief in being separate. This is how we remove the barriers to Love’s presence. These barriers are nothing but false beliefs. As we let go of the false beliefs, Love shines forth everywhere. We find peace as we remember our true Self. Here we find the memory of our eternal unity with God. Forgiveness is a gift we give to ourselves and the world. Today we choose God’s Voice as our Guide in all our doing.
