Accepting God’s Peace and Joy as Our Own

This is a day of silence and of trust. It is a special time of promise in your calendar of days. It is a time Heaven has set apart to shine upon, and cast a timeless light upon this day, when echoes of eternity are heard.

Today we will embark upon a course you have not dreamed of. But the Holy One, the Giver of the happy dreams of life, Translator of perception into truth, the holy Guide to Heaven given you, has dreamed for you this journey which you make and start today, with the experience this day holds out to you to be your own.

Into Christ’s Presence will we enter now, serenely unaware of everything except His shining face and perfect Love. The vision of His face will stay with you, but there will be an instant which transcends all vision, even this, the holiest. This you will never teach, for you attained it not through learning. Yet the vision speaks of your rememberance of what you knew that instant, and will surely know again. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 157, W-pI.157.1:1-3;8-9. It is helpful to take time to quiet our minds and welcome the presence of Holy Spirit. Our Guide to awakening is ever present but His presence is obscured by the clutter of our thoughts in the world. Taking time to quiet our minds is like a spiritual housecleaning.

What we find when we clear away the clutter is the eternal presence of Love. In that presence, we see with the vision of Christ. We see the innocence of Love everywhere. The veil of separation dissipates as we experience Love’s oneness in the present moment.

The dream the Holy Spirit dreams for us dispels the ego’s dreams of fear and guilt. They remind us of the truth that we remain Love as Love created us. And we experience God’s peace and joy as our own.

The Bridge to Heaven

The face of Christ has to be seen before the memory of God can return. The reason is obvious. Seeing the face of Christ involves perception. No one can look on knowledge. But the face of Christ is the great symbol of forgiveness. It is salvation. It is the symbol of the real world. Whoever looks on this no longer sees the world. He is as near to Heaven as is possible outside the gate. Yet from this gate it is no more than just a step inside. It is the final step. And this we leave to God.

Forgiveness is a symbol, too, but as the symbol of His Will alone it cannot be divided. And so the unity that it reflects becomes His Will. It is the only thing still in the world in part, and yet the bridge to Heaven. (A Course in Miracles, C-3.4-5)

Seeing the face of Christ is a symbol of the perception of Love’s innocence. While we are believing in the dream of separation, we are limited to perception. Knowledge is impossible in the dream of separation because separation blocks us from the experience of Unity, which is Knowledge. Forgiveness is needed in the illusion of separation. It is the means for setting aside these illusions to allow us to perceive the truth of Love’s innocence in everyone.

The face of Christ is not perceived with the body’s eyes. It is seen in the mind that is willing to overlook the images the body sees and welcome the true perception of innocence. This process is the means to let go of our illusions.

As we accept the truth of Love’s innocence in everyone, the perception of conflict fades. The perception of differences disappears into the nothingness from which it came. When we have laid all judgments aside, we stand at the gate of Heaven where our Creator welcomes us Home. We step away from perception and into the full knowledge of our oneness in Love.

Remembering Our Oneness in Love

…judgment has no value unless the goal is sin [separation].

The body cannot be looked upon except through judgment. To see the body is the sign that you lack vision, and have denied the means the Holy Spirit offers you to serve His purpose. How can a holy relationship achieve its purpose through the means of sin? Judgment you taught yourself; vision is learned from Him Who would undo your teaching. His vision cannot see the body because it cannot look on sin [separation]. And thus it leads you to reality. Your holy brother, sight of whom is your release, is no illusion. Attempt to see him not in darkness, for your imaginings about him will seem real there. You closed your eyes to shut him out. Such was your purpose, and while this purpose seems to have a meaning, the means for its attainment will be evaluated as worth the seeing, and so you will not see.

Your question should not be, “How can I see my brother without the body?” Ask only, “Do I really wish to see him sinless?” And as you ask, forget not that his sinlessness is your escape from fear. Salvation is the Holy Spirit’s goal. The means is vision. For what the seeing look upon is sinless. No one who loves can judge, and what he sees is free of condemnation. And what he sees he did not make, for it was given him to see, as was the vision that made his seeing possible. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.VII.7:7-9:8. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Love does not condemn. It is one, indivisible, unlimited, changeless and eternal. Seeing a brother as a body is an attempt to limit Love, to separate off a part from Love that is different. Yet what is one can have no differences. Bodies cannot exist in the oneness of Love.

The image of a body is neither holy nor unholy. It was made by the ego for its unholy purpose of making separation seem real. We have taught ourselves to believe that this unreal image is real. But what denies the unity of God’s Love must be unholy. This is why the ego’s goal of separation is called sin. Only our belief in separation makes judgment seem justified.

We have the means to undo the ego’s teaching and remember our holiness in the oneness of Love. The Holy Spirit offers us vision that shows us the reality of our unity in Love with every brother. This vision is the means that leads to the acceptance of our holy relationship with every brother and our unity with our Father.

With the Holy Spirit’s teaching, we no longer give credence to the illusion of a body. Our attention now is on the changeless, limitless Love that is everywhere to be seen with the Holy Spirit’s vision. Now we find peace and happiness, for we accept the gifts God has given us.

Bringing the Light of Love to the World

I am the light of the world. How holy am I, who have been given the function of lighting up the world! Let me be still before my holiness. In its calm light let all my conflicts disappear. In its peace let me remember Who I am.

Some specific forms for applying this idea when special difficulties seem to arise might be:
Let me not obscure the light of the world in me.
Let the light of the world shine through this appearance.
This shadow will vanish before the light.

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world. It is through accepting my function that I will see the light in me. And in this light will my function stand clear and perfectly unambiguous before my sight. My acceptance does not depend on my recognizing what my function is, for I do not yet understand forgiveness. Yet I will trust that, in the light, I will see it as it is.

Specific forms for using this idea might include:
Let this help me learn what forgiveness means.
Let me not separate my function from my will.
I will not use this for an alien purpose.

The Course uses “Light” as a symbol for the oneness of God’s Love. God’s Son is an extension of His Love and remains part of Love’s Light. Love is eternally changeless. Therefore this Light extends eternally. Only our choice to deny our unity with Love makes the eternal Light unknown to us. The wish to be a separate identity is alien to God’s Will that Love extends eternally without limit.

While we experience ourselves in a world of the ego’s limitations, our function is to let go of those limitations. Because of our choice to identify with the ego, we need help from outside the ego’s thought system to let go of (forgive) our self-imposed limits.

Accepting the help of the Holy Spirit to let go of our chosen limits is our only meaningful function in the world. Each time we accept our function by accepting Holy Spirit’s help, we pull away the curtains that have hidden the Light of Love from our awareness. Though this practice we bring the Light of Love to the world.

Love’s Vision Brings Healing to the World

Look on your brother with the willingness to see him as he is. And do not keep a part of him outside your willingness that he be healed. To heal is to make whole. And what is whole can have no missing parts that have been kept outside. Forgiveness rests on recognizing this, and being glad there cannot be some forms of sickness which the miracle must lack the power to heal.

God’s Son is perfect, or he cannot be God’s Son. Nor will you know him, if you think he does not merit the escape from guilt in all its consequences and its forms. There is no way to think of him but this, if you would know the truth about yourself.

I thank You, Father, for Your perfect Son,
and in his glory will I see my own.

Here is the joyful statement that there are no forms of evil that can overcome the Will of God; the glad acknowledgment that guilt has not succeeded by your wish to make illusions real. And what is this except a simple statement of the truth?” (A Course in Miracles, T-30.VI.8-9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

To see our brother as he is is to see him as Love and nothing else. God’s Son is an extension of the unity of the Love of God. What is one has no differences; it is the same throughout Its oneness. There are no different parts. This is the key to forgiveness and healing.

The ego has made myriad images in its world of make-believe illusions of separation. It is the ego’s made up beliefs in separation, represented by forms that appear different, that blind us to Love’s oneness. It is these images that are let go through forgiveness.

As we shift our focus from the ego’s dark projections of separation to our true Self’s vision of Love’s oneness and innocence, we free ourselves from fear and guilt. Our true Self’s vision heals our minds and frees the body from projections of guilt. The body is then used as nothing more than a means to communicate Love in a world made by belief in lovelessness. We bring healing to the world and ourselves through our forgiveness.

What Time Is For

Conflicting wishes cannot be my will. Father, Your Will is mine, and only that. There is no other will for me to have. Let me not try to make another will, for it is senseless and will cause me pain. Your Will alone can bring me happiness, and only Yours exists. If I would have what only You can give, I must accept Your Will for me, and enter into peace where conflict is impossible, Your Son is one with You in being and in will, and nothing contradicts the holy truth that I remain as You created me.

And with this prayer we enter silently into a state where conflict cannot come, because we join our holy will with God’s, in recognition that they are the same. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 307, W-pII.307. See also ACIM Lesson 307 Insights.)

The ego is in competition with God. It tries to make a will that denies God’s Love and our unbreakable unity with Him. Only in fantasies could this denial seem to exist. But fantasies are not real and therefore do not exist in truth. While we are engaged in fantasy, we are unaware of Reality, but Reality is not changed by our lack of awareness of It.

The moment we accept Reality, our fantasy disappears. We return to the awareness that we remain as Love created us. Love is the only Reality. Our true Self’s Will is to only be Love, which extends Itself without limit. This is the Will we share with God. This is what brings us indescribable joy and peace that cannot be disturbed.

Each time we forgive a judgment, we remove a barrier to accepting our true Will. Each time we let the Holy Spirit correct our mistaken perceptions, we take a step up the ladder that frees us from conflict and returns us to the peace of God. This practice is what time is for.

Being Led by the Light of Love

Creation leans across the bars of time to lift the heavy burden from the world. Lift up your hearts to greet its advent. See the shadows fade away in gentleness; the thorns fall softly from the bleeding brow of him who is the holy Son of God. How lovely are you, child of Holiness! How like to Me! How lovingly I hold you in My Heart and in My Arms. How dear is every gift to Me that you have made, who healed My Son and took him from the cross. Arise and let My thanks be given you. And with My gratitude will come the gift first of forgiveness, then eternal peace.

So now return your holy voice to Me. The song of prayer is silent without you. The universe is waiting your release because it is its own. Be kind to it and to yourself, and then be kind to Me. I ask but this; that you be comforted and live no more in terror and in pain. Do not abandon Love. Remember this; whatever you may think about yourself, whatever you may think about the world, your Father needs you and will call to you until you come to Him in peace at last. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.9-10)

Together we are God’s Son. We crucify His Son when we choose to identify with the ego, which is the denial of our unbreakable unity with God. This denial blocks our awareness of His gifts of eternal Love, joy and peace. This is the cross we bear by our choice to believe we are separated from God.

This need not be. We can choose once again to accept the truth of our eternal unity with Love, where peace abides and joy is limitless. These are the gifts that are God’s Will for us. Our choice to accept the help of the Holy Spirit to undo our mistaken choices takes us down off the cross and brings peace to our holy mind.

Today we practice accepting Holy Spirit’s help to reinterpret all our perceptions in the Light of Love. With His help, we bring healing to the world. We become Love’s messengers as we accept Love for ourselves and share It. We join in the song of Love and remember our Home in Love’s reality.
