Being God’s Messenger of Love

We look past dreams today, and recognize that we need no defense because we are created unassailable, without all thought or wish or dream in which attack has any meaning. Now we cannot fear, for we have left all fearful thoughts behind. And in defenselessness we stand secure, serenely certain of our safety now, sure of salvation; sure we will fulfill our chosen purpose, as our ministry extends its holy blessing through the world.

Be still a moment, and in silence think how holy is your purpose, how secure you rest, untouchable within its light. God’s ministers have chosen that the truth be with them. Who is holier than they? Who could be surer that his happiness is fully guaranteed? And who could be more mightily protected? What defense could possibly be needed by the ones who are among the chosen ones of God, by His election and their own as well?

It is the function of God’s ministers to help their brothers choose as they have done. God has elected all, but few have come to realize His Will is but their own. And while you fail to teach what you have learned, salvation waits and darkness holds the world in grim imprisonment. Nor will you learn that light has come to you, and your escape has been accomplished. For you will not see the light, until you offer it to all your brothers. Happiness comes with fulfilling our purpose. The fundamental purpose we all share is to bring the Light of truth to the world. The form in which this is accomplished under Holy Spirit’s guidance is unique for each individual in the world. The Holy Spirit always uses our worldly skills and experiences on behalf of extending truth into the world of illusions.

By accepting Holy Spirit’s lead through the day we are accepting what God has chosen for us — to be His messenger of Love and Light. With this practice we learn that we have all of His Love. We know the Light has come. God’s joy is ours. Our joy is complete when we wholly accept we are one with all our brothers.

The Foundation of True Forgiveness

…if you only catch a tiny glimpse of the release that lies in [all that I give is given to myself], this is a day of glory for the world.

It is the thought by which forgiveness takes its proper place in your priorities. It is the thought that will release your mind from every bar to what forgiveness means, and let you realize its worth to you.

…seek sanctuary in the quiet place where thoughts are changed and false beliefs laid by. Repeat [“all that I give is given to myself”], and ask for help in understanding what it really means. Be willing to be taught. Be glad to hear the Voice of truth and healing speak to you, and you will understand the words He speaks, and recognize He speaks your words to you. The basis of true forgiveness is the recognition that nothing can happen to change or harm God’s Son. To the part of our mind that believes separation is real, this is impossible. So we need to turn to the Holy Spirit, the part of our mind that knows the truth, for help to recognize that harm is impossible and nothing has happened to separate us from eternal Love.

When we are willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s lesson and see with His vision that there is nothing to forgive because nothing happened, forgiveness is automatic. We are able to see that only the Love in our brothers is true. We are able to see our brother as one with us, wholly harmless and truly loving. This is why giving and receiving are the same. When we see the love in our brothers, we experience the love in ourselves.

The Truth That Sets Us Free

It is sin’s unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. It does not countenance illusions, but collects them lightly, with a little laugh, and gently lays them at the feet of truth. And there they disappear entirely.

Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees their nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. It looks on lies, but it is not deceived. It does not heed the self-accusing shrieks of sinners mad with guilt. It looks on them with quiet eyes, and merely says to them, “My brother, what you think is not the truth.

The strength of pardon is its honesty, which is so uncorrupted that it sees illusions as illusions, not as truth. It is because of this that it becomes the undeceiver in the face of lies; the great restorer of the simple truth. By its ability to overlook what is not there, it opens up the way to truth, which has been blocked by dreams of guilt. Now are you free to follow in the way your true forgiveness opens up to you. If we are offended by anything in the world we need to remind ourselves, “What I see is not the truth.” If we see somebody who is angry, fearful or sad, we can mentally say to them, “Brother, what you see is not the truth.” It is this practice of remembering the forms of the world are not the truth that will set us free from guilt and fear. It will set us free to see the Light of Love that shines eternally beyond the veils of illusions.

With practice the veil becomes more and more transparent. The images are still seen with the body’s eyes, but we quickly recognize they have no substance and no real effect. And the Light that shines from beyond the veil shines through it, lighting our lives with truth. This practice is what time is for. This practice leads us out of the world and brings us back to our eternal Home in God. The reward is timeless and priceless. It is worth the vigilance, for it will set us free.

The Vision of Wholeness

[‘My holiness blesses the world’] contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. Thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God.

Yet is his wholeness restored to his awareness through your vision. Your holiness blesses him by asking nothing of him. Those who see themselves as whole make no demands.

Your holiness is the salvation of the world. It lets you teach the world that it is one with you, not by preaching to it, not by telling it anything, but merely by your quiet recognition that in your holiness are all things blessed along with you.

It is essential to use the idea if anyone seems to cause an adverse reaction in you. Offer him the blessing of your holiness immediately, that you may learn to keep it in your own awareness. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 37, W-pI.37.1;2:5-3:2. See also ACIM Lesson 37 Insights.)

Everything we see in the world is a projection that represents what we believe about ourselves. When we believe we are separate, we perceive others as different from us. Seeing differences means that others can have something we don’t have which we may want to have or avoid. This way of seeing fosters fear and guilt.

But there is another way of seeing. When we see through the truth in us, through our wholeness, we see the truth in everyone. Because the truth is one, there is no sense of differences, no sense of having or not having what others have. There is confidence that in our wholeness, we join with the wholeness of our brothers, and together we remember that we are the Son of God. We are Love and nothing else. Fear and guilt are replaced by the vision of Love and innocence. Our function is to see through the loving eyes of wholeness.

The Certainty of Our Safety

No one can fail to do what God appointed him to do. When you forget, remember that you walk with Him and with His Word upon your heart. Who could despair when hope like this is his? Illusions of despair may seem to come, but learn how not to be deceived by them. Behind each one there is reality and there is God.

Now we are sure we do not walk alone. For God is here, and with Him all our brothers. Now we know that we will never lose the way again. The song begins again which had been stopped only an instant, though it seems to be unsung forever. What is here begun will grow in life and strength and hope, until the world is still an instant and forgets all that the dream of sin had made of it. (A Course in Miracles, C-ep.1:4-8;4:3-7)

Our safe return to our Home in Heaven is guaranteed by God. When all we see is a world of conflict, limitation and loss, escape can seem to be hopeless. We need to learn that this perception is a deception. We have been given a Teacher ready to help us learn this lesson of freedom from a world that could never be real. This Teacher is ever-present in our mind, on call to answer our fears and anxiety with His vision of the certainty of God’s changeless Love.

With this practice the sense of despair is replaced by the certainty of our safety in God’s Love. This is the Reality to be remembered when moments of doubt and despair come over us. Confidence is justified because it is founded on the changelessness of God’s Love.

Today let us remember with all our brothers that we are Love and nothing else.

Our Stairway to Heaven

There is no life outside of Heaven. Where God created life, there life must be. In any state apart from Heaven life is illusion. At best it seems like life; at worst, like death. Yet both are judgments on what is not life, equal in their inaccuracy and lack of meaning. Life not in Heaven is impossible, and what is not in Heaven is not anywhere. Outside of Heaven, only the conflict of illusion stands; senseless, impossible and beyond all reason, and yet perceived as an eternal barrier to Heaven. Illusions are but forms. Their content is never true.

How can you know whether you chose the stairs to Heaven or the way to hell? Quite easily. How do you feel? Is peace in your awareness? Are you certain which way you go? And are you sure the goal of Heaven can be reached? If not, you walk alone. Ask, then, your Friend to join with you, and give you certainty of where you go. (A Course in Miracles, T-23.II.19;22:6-13. The “life” we experience in the world is a fake life. It is a self deception based upon the mistaken belief that we have succeeded in separating from the Source of all Life. It is an attempt to make what could never exist appear to be true. And so we seem to live in an illusionary world of forms that we give meaning to because the forms have no content of their own.

This is why most in this world are constantly searching for meaning. A gnawing feeling of emptiness, loneliness and insufficient love seems to be our constant companion. No form in this world can truly satisfy our search, for what we seek cannot be found here.

We have a Guide in our minds Who can show us where to find what we seek. It is always with us, hidden only by false belief. As we learn to follow our inner Guide, we will reconnect with the Light of our true Self within. It will shine away the veil of false beliefs and we will experience our innate peace. This peace is God’s eternal gift to us. We take the stairs to Heaven’s peace each time we let our inner Guide help us let go of a false image, a false belief, that has hidden Heaven from our awareness.

Today is a day of opportunities to take steps toward Heaven and the peace of God.

Welcoming the Healing Light of Love

The mind that sees illusions thinks them real. They have existence in that they are thoughts. And yet they are not real, because the mind that thinks these thoughts is separate from God.

The Holy Spirit holds [the] plan of God exactly as it was received of Him within the Mind of God and in your own. It is apart from time in that its Source is timeless. Yet it operates in time, because of your belief that time is real. Unshaken does the Holy Spirit look on what you see; on sin and pain and death, on grief and separation and on loss. Yet does He know one thing must still be true; God is still Love, and this is not His Will.

Then let the Thought with which He has replaced all your mistakes enter the darkened places of your mind that thought the thoughts that never were His Will.

Let in the light, and you will look upon no obstacle to what He wills for you. Open your secrets to His kindly light, and see how bright this light still shines in you.

Everyone in this world is seeking for Love, because we believe we are separate from the Source of Love. Belief makes it seem real, though it could never be real in truth. It is this mistaken belief from which we need to be released.

God has a perfect plan with which to release us from the belief in separation, fear and guilt. He gave the plan to the Holy Spirit, Who remains forever in our mind. If we are willing, He will teach us that God’s only will for us is perfect, changeless Love. As we let Him shine His light of truth on all the dark shadows of the mistaken belief in separation, we will learn with perfect certainty that we all remain Love as Love created us.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s Light in our minds.
