Forgiveness Is the Way to Happiness

The following is from From the Christ Mind, page 46. We are sharing it with you because it so beautifully expresses the importance of forgiveness as the pathway Home.

Forgiveness is the choice that must be made if you would be happy. A mind devoted to holding grievances is choosing conflict and attack as its constant state. With fear as your chosen partner, happiness will not be found. Happiness is part of joy, and joy without Love is impossible. The belief in guilt is the denial of Love, for fear is guilt’s constant companion; and where fear is, Love is not. The choice for Love is the choice for forgiveness. Forgiveness overlooks all “sins” that were never committed but in dreams. All dreams are dispelled by the gentle remedy [forgiveness] brings, and the world of illusion, enfolded in the gentle embrace of forgiveness, is quietly brought to an end, allowing Truth to return and take you Home.

We choose to be happy today by practicing forgiveness. With Holy Spirit’s help, we will see past appearances to the truth of Love everywhere.

Being Watchful and Choosing Truth

We dedicate today to watching our mind and thoughts… As we recognize thoughts that are not Love, we bring them to the Holy Spirit in our minds with willingness to let Him purify them and return them to loving expressions.

With His help we will offer Love where fear appeared… We will offer blessing where there appeared to be lack… We will recognize the innocence that truly lies beyond all appearances of guilt… Judgment will be replaced by acceptance of the truth of Love that lies beyond all appearances. With this practice, we choose Truth.

Today We Let Holy Spirit Be in the Driver’s Seat

The world we see is the result of a wish to have a will we could call our own, to do it our way. We wanted to be in the driver’s seat. But when we are in the driver’s seat doing it our way, we really go nowhere and what we experience does not bring us lasting happiness. We are on a seemingly endless journey, trying to find the Love that we seem to have lost.

Fortunately, we have available to us the means to find our way back to Love. When we accepted the wish to have our own will, we were given the means to remember that our real Will is the Will we share with God. It is the Will of Love. The means to find our way back is the Holy Spirit. To remember the Love we are, we need to bring the Holy Spirit out of the back seat and put Him in the driver’s seat. He is not deceived by our wild imaginings and will take us along the way that returns us to our Home in Love. We just need to let Him be the driver.

Today our practice is to step back from trying to control our experience in the world and turn it over to the Holy Spirit, with willingness to let Him be in charge of all our doing. When Love leads the way, judgment falls away, fear has no place and we welcome with quiet joy the Love that is given to us without limit in each moment. Today we let Holy Spirit be in the driver’s seat.

Accepting a Better Way

Today we practice consistently opening to Holy Spirit to accept a better way.

We open to Holy Spirit’s peace and calm… We open to Holy Spirit’s inspiration with everything we think or do… We open to seeing every brother as the Holy Spirit sees them — we see the face of Christ… We see that they are still as God created them and that nothing has happened to change God’s one Son…

We accept the fact that we are in truth an instrument of God’s peace. We accept a better way today.

Joining to See the Face of Christ in Every Brother

When brothers join in purpose in the world of fear, they stand already at the edge of the real world. Perhaps they still look back, and think they see an idol that they want. Yet has their path been surely set away from idols toward reality. For when they joined their hands it was Christ’s hand they took, and they will look on Him Whose hand they hold. The face of Christ is looked upon before the Father is remembered. For He must be unremembered till His Son has reached beyond forgiveness to the Love of God. Yet is the Love of Christ accepted first. And then will come the knowledge They are One. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.V.7)

When we look through the ego’s eyes, we are not shown the face of Christ in every brother. The ego’s goal is to project the unconscious guilt we feel within onto “others” we see as outside us. The world was made up to make ourselves look like the innocent victim of a guilty outer world. We feel very separate from “others.”

As we learn to choose a better way, we open to the Holy Spirit’s way of seeing every brother. The Holy Spirit helps us see past the body to the truth of the eternal Spirit of Love that lies behind the illusion of separation. The Holy Spirit sees the illusions of separate bodies but does not believe in them. He joyfully shows us the face of Christ that is eternally there in everyone. The Holy Spirit shows us innocence where we once saw guilt. He dissolves the fearful projections and helps us see the Truth that only Love is there. Our only purpose today is to join with Holy Spirit to see the face of Christ in every brother.

Forgiveness Is the Path to Heaven

“

Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees [illusions’] nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. It looks on lies, but it is not deceived.

By its ability to overlook what is not there, [forgiveness] opens up the way to truth, which has been blocked by dreams of guilt. Now are you free to follow in the way your true forgiveness opens up to you. For if one brother has received this gift of you, the door is open to yourself. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.134.7:1-3;8:3-5)

All stress, worry, anxiety, uncertainty, unworthiness, depression, fear and guilt are the effect of judgment, of unforgiveness. Forgiveness is the antidote to all these disturbances in the world of separation. We forgive by turning over all our judgments to the Holy Spirit to let Him judge on our behalf and show us how He sees all the things that seem to disturb our peace. Because He knows the truth of what is real and not real, He looks past the illusions that seem so real to us.

If we bring our judgments to Him with open minds and hearts, willing to receive His loving vision, we let Him lead us on the path to Heaven. Each time we do this and accept His vision, we take another step toward Home, bringing our brothers with us. All our brothers are joined with us each time we let our minds be healed of a mistaken belief. Our healing is shared with all the world. Today we practice bringing all our judgments to the Holy Spirit in our minds and move forward along the path to Heaven.

Am I Willing to Remember the Truth Today?

You have been called by God, and you have answered. Would you now sacrifice that Call? Few have heard it as yet, and they can but turn to you. There is no other hope in all the world that they can trust. There is no other voice in all the world that echoes God’s. If you would sacrifice the truth, they stay in hell. And if they stay, you will remain with them. (A Course in Miracles, M-13.6:6-12)

We have one goal and that is to be of service to the Holy Spirit’s plan of awakening. The truth is we are joined as one in God. The truth is we share all of God’s Love with all, because we are all still as God created us.

Today… right now… we have another opportunity to awaken to the truth by opening to Holy Spirit’s purpose for us in this world. As we open to and accept Holy Spirit’s purpose, there is peace… there is certainty… there is Love. All this comes as we make opening to the truth our highest priority today. This is our true service to the awakening.
