Remembering the Self Love Created

The world can teach no images of you unless you want to learn them. There will come a time when images have all gone by, and you will see you know not what you are. It is to this unsealed and open mind that truth returns, unhindered and unbound. Where concepts of the self have been laid by is truth revealed exactly as it is. When every concept has been raised to doubt and question, and been recognized as made on no assumptions that would stand the light, then is the truth left free to enter in its sanctuary, clean and free of guilt. There is no statement that the world is more afraid to hear than this:

I do not know the thing I am, and therefore do not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world or on myself.

Yet in this learning is salvation born. And What you are will tell you of Itself. (A Course in Miracles, T-31.V.17. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The core focus of A Course in Miracles is to bring us to the point of accepting that we do not know what we are or what anything means. The early lessons of the Workbook lead us in this direction. There are many places throughout the Course that express this intent. Clearly it is understood that we have great resistance to the idea that we are clueless about what we are. Thankfully we are lovingly and patiently guided in this direction.

As we let go of the importance we give to things in the world, including our concept of what we are, we become happier and more peaceful. This is a good feeling. It motivates us to keep doing the work that frees us from the image of being a weak and separate self, fearful and guilty, in need of constant defense.

The principal mechanism that frees us from all this is forgiveness — letting go of the false images that hide our true Self from our awareness. The strength of God supports us in the practice of forgiveness. His Voice guides us when we are willing to receive His Thoughts. Christ’s vision helps us look past the false images of separation to see and join with the Love that is everywhere to behold. We are on a journey to remembering that we are, together, God’s holy Son, united with our Creator.

How to Bring Light to the World

The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness. My forgiveness is the means by which the light of the world finds expression through me. My forgiveness is the means by which I become aware of the light of the world in me. My forgiveness is the means by which the world is healed, together with myself. Let me, then, forgive the world, that it may be healed along with me.

Let me not forget my function. I would not forget my function, because I would remember my Self. I cannot fulfill my function if I forget it. And unless I fulfill my function, I will not experience the joy that God intends for me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 82, W-pI.82.1,3. See also ACIM Lesson 82 Insights.)

The appearance of disaster and death in the dream of separation makes it seem very real. It certainly does not seem like a dream. And these catastrophic events or personal harm seem unforgivable. Ignoring what we believe is real cannot be justified. Yet we are told that our only function is to forgive. In the thought system of the world, this is impossible.

Yet if we are willing, the Holy Spirit in our minds will shine the Light of Love on our perception. He will show us that no matter what the appearance, our true Self is still safe in the Light of Love. The image of a vulnerable body is not what we are.

As we let the Holy Spirit teach us this lesson, the seeming reality of the dream of separation fades. We learn to see that the perception of harm is just the confused part of our mind calling for help and healing. That call may appear to come from someone else in the form of their words and actions, or it may come in our own mind as thoughts of fear and guilt. They are the same call for help.

The Holy Spirit answers both by bringing the Light of Love to help us see that our true Self can never harm nor be harmed, for only Love is real. As we learn that no harm really happened — it was only a dream of harm — we easily forgive the appearance and overlook it. We fulfill our function and bring the Light of Love to the world as we accept the Holy Spirit’s lessons.

Being the Harmlessness of Our True Self

You make what you defend against, and by your own
defense against it is it real and inescapable. Lay down
your arms, and only then do you perceive it false.

Now do your eyes belong to Christ, and He looks through them. Now your voice belongs to God and echoes His. And now your heart remains at peace forever. You have chosen Him in place of idols, and your attributes, given by your Creator, are restored to you at last. The Call for God is heard and answered. Now has fear made way for love, as God Himself replaces cruelty.

Father, we are like You. No cruelty abides in us, for there is none in You. Your peace is ours. And we bless the world with what we have received from You alone. We choose again, and make our choice for all our brothers, knowing they are one with us. We bring them Your salvation as we have received it now. And we give thanks for them who render us complete. In them we see Your glory, and in them we find our peace. Holy are we because Your Holiness has set us free. And we give thanks. Amen. The dream of a world of separation is a defense against the oneness of God’s Love. We populate the dream with images of separation — bodies, cultures, races, countries and continents — which stand as a defense against oneness. The images make separation seem real. It is impossible to experience the joy and peace of our true Self in the dream that defends against it.

We were created complete as the one Self we share with all our brothers. This one Self is God’s Son, the extension of God’s Love. Love does not condemn nor harm. There is no harm in the one Self that is the truth of our being. As we identify with our Self, we see with the eyes of Christ. We speak with His voice. We experience His peace and we recognize our completion by our unity with our brothers. 

Today we use the inner vision of our Self to look past the images of separation in the dream and welcome the recognition of the Love our brother is, united with us.

How to Bless the World and Ourselves

[“My holiness blesses the world”] contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. Thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God.

His wholeness [is] restored to his awareness through your vision. Your holiness blesses him by asking nothing of him. Those who see themselves as whole make no demands.

Your holiness is the salvation of the world. It lets you teach the world that it is one with you, not by preaching to it, not by telling it anything, but merely by your quiet recognition that in your holiness are all things blessed along with you. Our true Self is holy because It is the oneness of Love. Our holy vision sees only Love everywhere, united with Itself. This vision unifies because it overlooks the images of separation in the world. As we look upon our brother with the holy vision of Love, we see the truth in him and remind ourselves of the truth in us. This is how we bless the world and ourselves simultaneously.

If we wish a brother behaved differently, said different things or looked different, we are not seeing him with holy vision. This wish denies our own holiness and withholds our brother’s birthright as Love’s Creation. Today we practice welcoming Love’s vision to help us see the oneness of Love everywhere and overlook the images of separation in the world. This is how we bless the world and ourselves.

Learning Peace Is in Us Now

The Communication Link [God’s Voice] that God Himself placed within you, joining your mind with His, cannot be broken. You may believe you want It broken, and this belief does interfere with the deep peace in which the sweet and constant communication God would share with you is known. Yet His channels of reaching out cannot be wholly closed and separated from Him. Peace will be yours because His peace still flows to you from Him Whose Will is peace. You have it now. The Holy Spirit will teach you how to use [peace], and by extending it, to learn that it is in you.

Salvation is as sure as God. His certainty suffices. Learn that even the darkest nightmare that disturbs the mind of God’s sleeping Son holds no power over him. He will learn the lesson of awaking. God watches over him and light surrounds him.

You do not have to know that Heaven is yours to make it so. It is so. Yet to know it, the Will of God must be accepted as your will. (A Course in Miracles, T-13.XI.8:1-6;9:3-7;10:5-7. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The appearance of devastation, disease and death is the ego’s out-picturing of the belief in separation and guilt. It is simply made up images that have no effect on the changeless Reality of God’s Son. Beyond the appearances, safely held in the reality of our true Self, is the peace of God. This peace cannot be lost, but we can deny Its presence.

The Voice for God is ever present in our mind, gently reminding us that we are united with the peace of God. Let us listen today. In our heart we want to hear Heaven’s choir singing the song of the peace that we share with all that is.

How to Offer Love to the World

…we give these times of quiet to the Teacher Who instructs in quiet, speaks of peace, and gives our thoughts whatever meaning they may have.

…let Him teach you what to do and say and think, each time you turn to Him. He will not fail to be available to you, each time you call to Him to help you.

I feel the Love of God within me now.

The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.

I am the holy Son of God Himself.

In silence and in true humility I seek God’s glory, to behold it in the Son whom He created as my Self.

I am not a body. I am free.

The key to healing our minds is to interrupt the automatic stream of thoughts from the ego that move through our mind. These thoughts come from the ego’s trance script that will continue unabated until we interrupt the trance.

We interrupt the ego trance by pausing and taking time apart to welcome the Teacher within, Who will replace the ego fear thoughts we do not want with thoughts inspired by Love. These thoughts of Love will show us how to offer Love to the world instead of fear. Love will inspire us with what to think and say and do. Our activities in the world may be the same, but the foundation will be Love and extending Love. This is how we free the world from all we thought it was. It is the function God would have us fill. We choose this today.

Accepting the Christ Within

The Christ in you is very still. He looks on what He loves, and knows it as Himself. And thus does He rejoice at what He sees, because He knows that it is one with Him and with His Father.

[Christ] knows that love is in you now, and safely held in you by that same hand that holds your brother’s in your own. Christ’s hand holds all His brothers in Himself. He gives them vision for their sightless eyes, and sings to them of Heaven, that their ears may hear no more the sound of battle and of death. He reaches through them, holding out His hand, that everyone may bless all living things, and see their holiness. And He rejoices that these sights are yours, to look upon with Him and share His joy. His perfect lack of specialness He offers you, that you may save all living things from death, receiving from each one the gift of life that your forgiveness offers to your Self. The sight of Christ is all there is to see. The song of Christ is all there is to hear. The hand of Christ is all there is to hold. There is no journey but to walk with Him. It is helpful to remember that the body and all its senses are constructs of the ego thought system and therefore are illusions. Illusions make illusions; they cannot make truth. What the body’s senses perceive are illusions.

To free ourselves from the dream of separation and specialness, we need to use a different means of perception to overlook the illusions of the dream. In our minds the Christ offers His vision, His hands, His feet to connect with the truth in our brothers. With the inner vision of Christ, we see the innocence and Love within our brothers. The hands of Christ join with the hands of our brothers, welcoming them into the oneness of Love. With Christ’s feet, we walk with our brothers on the journey of remembering we are one Self, the innocent Son of God, safe in the eternal presence of Love. Today we choose Christ in our mind as our Guide for all our doing.
