Using the Body as an Aid to Lead Us Home

…[the body] can be seen as not your home, but merely as an aid to help you reach the home where God abides.

With this as purpose is the body healed. It is not used to witness to the dream of separation and disease. Nor is it idly blamed for what it did not do. It serves to help the healing of God’s Son, and for this purpose it cannot be sick. It will not join a purpose not your own, and you have chosen that it not be sick. All miracles are based upon this choice, and given you the instant it is made. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.VII.3:6-4:6. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The most often repeated statement in the Course is, “I am not a body, I am free. I am still as God created me.” Learning to let go of our identification with the body is how we let the body be an aid to help us return to our Home in God. This seems to be a radical reversal of the belief that our identity is defined by the body and personality in the world.

If we look honestly at what identifying with the body brings us in this world, it is clear that it brings us a sense of vulnerability, lack, guilt and fear. Letting go of this identity promises to return us to the perfect safety, changeless peace, limitless joy and perfect Love of God, our only Home. This is an exchange that is truly worth the effort. It offers us what we truly want. And it is guaranteed that it is ours because God Himself has given it.

Today we practice remembering the center of peace within and letting that peace lead the way. This is how we are guided to use the body as an aid to lead us Home.
