God’s Will for Me

His name is Will, or I like to call him ‘God’s Will For Me.’ He was twelve years old and the ‘bully’ of our otherwise quiet, white picket fence neighborhood; a smart mouthed punk, a criminal, who seemed to enjoy hurting the other children. The last straw was when he shot a young girl in the mouth with a BB gun. The neighbors, in an uproar and full of fear, started a petition in hopes that the courts would remove this family from our community.

I, being a student of ACIM, was determined to see this differently. I was taking a walk when I passed Will on the sidewalk, petting his dog. It was as if I heard a voice coming from him, crying out, “Help me. I forgot who I AM.” I stopped to talk to him, telling him that I had heard about everything that had happened. He proceeded to tell me, “Yeah, it’s as if I’ve been living in a fog my whole life.” Will had never felt loved. His father had been in prison since he was a toddler and his mother was mentally ill.

I was checking in with Holy Spirit as he was pouring his heart out. “What would be most helpful to say?” And then I told Will, “I Believe in you Will. No matter what you have done or will do, I Believe in you.” He was shocked, so much that his body literally leaned back. “You do?” He asked. “No one has ever said that to me before.” I told him that I, like him, feel like I live in a fog, that I sometimes thrash out at others because I’m hurting inside; that I, too, have felt unloved, and unsupported.

I moved from the neighborhood, shortly after that holy encounter. I don’t know what ever happened with Will and I don’t even need to know. I just know a Miracle happened that day and that we were both blessed, equally. He was God’s Will for me!
