The Truth About the Law of Attraction

Quantum physics has recently proven the fact that the mind is fully capable of attracting the things that clear intention is set upon, and creating its own ‘reality’ by manifesting into physical form that on which it focuses. This concept has also recently been capitalized on by certain books and films which reveal how the ‘law of attraction’ can be manipulated to bring into manifestation the desires of the heart whether it is financial gain or true love.

A Course in Miracles also supports the idea that as God’s perfect Son we were created to be creators and that each of us hold this powerful creative ability within. In fact, the Course says, “Your holiness reverses all the laws of the world. It is beyond all restriction of time, space, distance and any limitations of any kind.” (W-pI.38.1:1)

However, we have misused this creative ability by questioning our oneness with God resulting in the creation of an ego (belief in a separated self) and our entire world as we perceive it now; awaiting punishment, lacking, guilt-ridden and sick.

Still, the ego has now created another strategy to fool us into believing that we can somehow redecorate this mess by attracting to ourselves the things that will make it all seem more palatable. All we need do is sit down and write a list of our intentions, put them out to the universe by remaining strongly focused on them and wait for the rewards to come flowing in…

But, how can we write a list of worthy goals and intentions when the Course tells us, “In no situation that arises do you realize the outcome that would make you happy. Therefore, you have no guide to appropriate action, and no way of judging the result. It is inevitable then that you will not serve your own best interests.” (w-pI.24.1:1, 2, and 4)

Still, we all want to live better lives even if it is an illusion, so how can we best approach improving our situation without trying to make the illusion real by attempting to attract to ourselves what is not necessarily in our own best interest such as more money, special relationships, bigger house, etc. or whatever…

The answer is to understand that what seems to be lacking is in our minds not in our pocketbook or marriage, etc. Let’s face it, even people who seem to have it all in life still get depressed, anxious, sick and even die. Fortunately, the Course assures us that there is only one ‘problem,’ the false belief in separation, and one solution which is a shifted perception that we are the dreamer and not the dream. This is known as the ‘Miracle.’

The miracle is the Holy Spirit’s solution to our insanity and wrong perception. In fact the miracle knows no order of difficulty when it comes to solving our perceived problems. All we need to do is have a ‘little willingness’ to have our minds healed and Holy Spirit, the “Remedy” will be more than happy to ‘correct’ our mistaken thoughts that we are lacking in any way.

Once we remember who we really are, perfect, amazing Sons of God we will realize that there is nothing that we actually need to attract. All is perfect as it is and peace is restored to our minds. This is the real secret and it’s not actually a secret at all.

I Should Have Known Better

I attended the workshop, Undoing the Ego II given by Tomas Viera and Nouk Sanchez, the authors of Take Me To Truth: Undoing the Ego. Although I am a long time student of A Course in Miracles and an ordained minister of Pathways of Light, I had never previously been in the physical company of any assembly of ACIM students. I had some reservations about spending five nights in Kiel, Wisconsin with these spiritually inclined strangers that I was certain would be very different from me. I was sure that few, if any, from this group of spiritual seekers would share my background and interests or have experienced the same difficulties that have challenged me greatly in this “dream” that I think is real.

Nevertheless, I wanted to meet Mary and Robert Stoelting, and Sharyn Zenz personally, learn from the authors of this amazing book I read, and see the site of Pathways of Light before they move on to Florida. And, after all, it’s only four days; how boring and sterile can these people be anyway? I should be able to find someone I can relate to, I hoped.

As I look back on those thoughts now, I can see clearly that I should have known better. The ego always speaks first and loudest. Once I put the Holy Spirit in charge of these fears, He didn’t let me down. I wouldn’t have expected that my favorite part of every morning would be going from person to person and sharing long, powerful hugs — expressing love with every member of our group of about thirty people. Maybe my “story” is a bit different but so was everyone’s. There is no mold for the type of people seeking Truth and I came to feel so much warmth and respect for and from each person — and quite quickly too. Undoing the ego feels just wonderful!

What fun I had — we had — exploring how that damn ego has shaken us up all of our lives. I laughed a lot — in fact, we even practiced laughing at each other’s ego. All of us had stories of how we’ve suffered from our ego attachments; how we’ve defended beliefs even though they made us miserable. I learned about a different level of “trust” in the Holy Spirit’s answers than I’ve allowed my mind to previously accept. We explored what is “valuable” and “valueless” in our lives. We contemplated what we were willing to offer to Holy Spirit and what exactly we were still keeping for ourselves to decide.

Nouk and Tomas shared many personal and very inspiring stories about ego release — most of which made us belly laugh. They didn’t take themselves so seriously even though many of the circumstances they described were very serious by this world’s standards. Their examples made the rest of us open up to our fears more than we ever would have expected when we came. We weren’t always laughing but we could have — should have. Once we realize that our stories are all illusions, we could laugh at them and be right to do so. There is no need for us to suffer for even a moment. When we offer all our fears to Holy Spirit we will laugh and feel love all the time.

I felt a real lot of love this week from everyone there at Pathways. There never was anything to fear after all. I never expected to laugh so much; I should have known better. Thanks, everyone.

Simplicity

Michael Gardner

One. Nothing to add to Love.
No explanation necessary.
I know nothing.

I know not Love, Its depth,
Its height, Its bredth.
But that it is, is sure knowledge.

Not spoken. Demonstrated.
A smile, a touch, a helping hand.

I must ask Spirit in all things to
guide me. It bids me be silent,
to speak few words.
And never ask why does it seem
to be this way — it is not
but the believing makes it so.

Believe it or not; it says,
“The One is true only.”
I have no answers for anyone.
I do not know the right questions.
But Spirit knows all.
Ask the One. Simplicity.

Ghosts from the Past

In the stillness and the quiet is every prayer answered. It seems that when I have a problem or concern, the one and only way to handle it is to bring it to Holy Spirit for a miracle. My perception is automatically changed and I can go about my Father’s business.

The other day I had a situation with my daughter that I thought I knew what was best for her and her child. I thought if she did this or did things another way it would be better for her and her son. After realizing that I needed help with this stress I was feeling, I closed my eyes and asked Holy Spirit for His perception and asked to see it with His eyes instead of how I was seeing it.

I knew without going to Spirit I would be caught up in the yucky feeling all day and maybe tomorrow too! So I closed my eyes and asked to see it differently and here is what I learned!

I saw myself in a haunted house (I guess Halloween has gotten to me!) and there were eyes in the darkness looking at me. When I asked about them Holy Spirit was right there with me and said, “Sharyn, those are ghosts from your past.Sometimes they still get to you without you even being aware of it and you get caught up with those thoughts of the past.” Then I saw three signs hanging crooked in this haunted house that all said the same thing: judgment, judgment, judgement.
 
Then Holy Spirit said, “When you get caught up with thoughts from the past and think you know what is best for others, or yourself for that matter, you are judging. You need to leave those ghosts from the past and walk with Me. Remember when you think you know what is best for someone you are judging that the way they are doing it is wrong! You think your way is better.”

Well, let me tell you, this really made me think. Every time I talk over a perceived problem or situation with a friend or family member, and I listen to them, all I am doing is buying into their judgments about it! By me buying into what others thought about the situation, I was putting my trust in others instead of Holy Spirit!

What an eye opener that was for me. Now, instead of going to others and discussing any situations or problems, which only makes matters worse, I’d rather spend the time with the only One who knows the answer and listen to what He has to tell me.

I walked up some stairs in the haunted house with Holy Spirit and looked behind me at all the ghosts from the past just melting away. And when I reached the top step Holy Spirit raised His arms and the roof blew off the haunted house and the Light entered and filled the home. It was just beautiful.

Holy Spirit and I sat down. He told me to go have fun with my grandchildren and make friendly ghost signs. I can cut them out and hang them all over my office. He told me the messages to write on each ghost such as “You are beautiful and One with Me,”  “You are Love,” “My mind sees only thoughts of Love,” “There is no past, only the gift of the present,” etc. We had so much fun making them. Now when I see them I know that my ghosts from the past are gone and only Holy Spirit’s ‘ghosts’ with messages of Love are real.

Holy Spirit also reminded me that when I go to another to talk something over, I am making the problem real, and nothing is Real except Love.
