Guidance

by Cheryl (Poet) Minor

I purchased A Course In Miracles book several years ago, from a used book outlet, when I moved from New York City to Orlando Florida in 2013. I decided to start reading the book in 2018.

The reading wasn’t too hard to understand but I certainly needed guidance. Looking for a podcast that covered ACIM I found Reverend Jennifer McSween’s podcast “Understanding The Language Of A Course In Miracles.”

It was Rev. McSween’s calm demeanor of explaining the lessons that I really started to understand what I was reading and how to put the lessons into practice.

After listening for two years, I wanted to send her a donation for her work. I reached out to her via email. She responded that I could give my donation to Pathways of Light Organization.

I had never heard of Pathways of Light but once I went to POL website, I was blown away by all the information. Here was a website full of ACIM information and guidance!

In 2021 I purchased the 3rd Edition of ACIM through Pathways of Light. This updated edition will allow me to follow along in the readings in their weekly ACIM discussion on Sundays. I am grateful for all this guidance.

Perceptual Dependence

by Rev. Gina Lucia, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

Are we conditioned to believe “the systems way” is the only way it can be done? A perceived dependency on an external hierarchal system?

Are we being challenged now to go beyond the dream spell into a deeper, spiritual awakening towards a profound collective entrainment guided by an Innate Wisdom, accessible to us all? Are we ready to align ourselves with the sovereignty of our holy existence?

We cannot have illusions and truth at the same time. Let us remember… we are in God’s Kingdom.

“Your guest has come. You asked Him, and He came. You did not hear Him enter, for you did not wholly welcome Him. And yet His gifts came with Him. He has laid them at your feet, and asks you now that you will look on them and take them for your own. He needs your help in giving them to all who walk apart, believing they are separate and alone.”

A change in such conditioning can find a natural rhythm of ease if journeyed with your Guide, an Inner Wisdom; ALWAYS just right there.

“Let us be still an instant, and forget all things we ever learned, all thoughts we had, and every preconception that we hold of what things mean and what their purpose is. Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world is for. We do not know. That every image held of everyone be loosened from our minds and swept away.” (T-31.I.12:1-4)

Where does this leave us?

“Before you answer, pause to think of this:
The answer that I give my brother is what I am asking for. And what I learn of him is what I learned about myself.”

Then let us wait an instant and be still, forgetting everything we thought we heard; remembering how much we do not know. This brother neither leads nor follows us, but walks beside us on the selfsame road. He is like us, as near or far away from what we want as we will let him be. We make no gains he does not make with us, and we fall back if he does not advance. Take not his hand in anger but in love, for in his progress do you count your own. And we go separately along the way unless you keep him safely by your side.” (T-31.II.6:1-9)

We are all in this together, collectively awakening to truth. What an amazing time to witness this great awakening. The boundaries of the mind are expanding to a higher understanding of our purpose, our visit here, in and on this earthly plane. With all the change going on in the physical world no wonder we are feeling pushed, pressured, in a hurry to do one of the many actions from a perceptual dependency. The ego’s hierarchal dictate.

The truth is closing in. In separateness our communication fails. The Holy Spirit’s goal gives one interpretation parallel in meaning to us and our brother’s. We have one Interpreter. Through His symbols, lessons to choose continue in choosing Love, understanding forgiveness, and lead us back to each other in the One Mind of God, where we all reside. May we all find the universal language to communicate effectively. Reality is changeless. There is no miracle we cannot have when we desire healing. May we all attain to look into our brothers eyes and behold within ourselves what we see. Take it to the Holy Spirit for interpretation.

“An ancient hate is passing from the world. And with it goes all hatred and all fear. Look back no longer, for what lies ahead is all you have ever wanted in your heart. Give up the world!” (T-30.V.9:1-4)

As we continue on our journey may we lean in a little longer, soften just a little more. As the awakening deepens, may we recognize the fulfillment of our deepest potential with less effort and a lessened sense of “self,” as we collectively awaken to our divine sovereignty.

Above all else a willingness to put God first prepares a spiritually fertile foundation where clarity, love, peace, joy, communion and compassion are co-creators in our relationship to all things.

“Nothing but the laws of God has ever been, and nothing but His Will will ever be. You were created by His laws and by His Will, and the manner of your creation established you a creator.” (T-10.IV.5:5-6)

Where to Begin?

by Rev. Myron, Jones, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

When students new to the Course come to me, they inevitably ask where to start. Back in the old days, when I thought I knew something, (not really that long ago, truth be told) I would tell them. What I told them, of course, was what I was guided to do, and what has my guidance to do with them? We each have the Holy Spirit within us to be our guide and no one needs someone else to do that. We each have a specific path to follow and only the Holy Spirit knows what that is.

When I started the Course, luckily, I didn’t have anyone to advise me. I picked up the book and started at the beginning like any good little Virgo would. And that was absolutely perfect for me. I was completely enthralled, and couldn’t have put it down if I wanted to, at least until I got to the part where I didn’t understand anything I was reading, but that was okay, too. At this point there was nowhere to go but to the lessons, and that was perfect, too.

I had a lot more trouble with the lessons. I redid the first two sections over and over again because I would come to my line of resistance. I didn’t see it like that at the time. The ego said I was lazy, I didn’t want it bad enough, I shouldn’t be doing it, I couldn’t do it, I should be ashamed. I believed it all, and would put the book down in guilt and fear, but I could not undo what I already knew, and so would pick it up again. I eventually pushed that line of resistance back further and further, but still did not do the lessons all the way through for a very long time.

It wasn’t until I did get through the lessons that everything began to change and so I highly recommend doing them, but I no longer presume the Holy Spirit’s role and tell anyone how or when. I also no longer look back on my journey and think that there was anything wrong about the way I did it, or even my timing. It was obviously perfect for me, and while I can see from the perspective of time the how and why of a lot of it, that doesn’t matter either. However, I have noticed that it can be helpful to others who are faltering to share my experience of stumbling through it, not to mention it keeps me humble. ~smile~

What helped me to finally get through the lessons was finding Pathways of Light. They had a forum at the time that allowed the opportunity to do the lessons with others and to share our experience. I was so happy to have someone to share this journey that I never wanted to get behind, so I was motivated to stay on course.

Another thing I learned through Pathways was that anyone can communicate with the Holy Spirit. So I asked the Holy Spirit to help me go through the lessons again with His help, and I began to journal as I went. Again, everything changed.

Listening to the Holy Spirit, learning to trust that Voice, has helped me to reach the point where I can say with certainty and humility that I am a teacher of God. I am an imperfect teacher, but then, aren’t we all. I also understand and completely accept that this does not make me special. We are all teachers, and eventually we all become teachers of God. It is just a matter of time, and time doesn’t really exist. One person seems to be there while another seems to still be in resistance, and the important word in this sentence is “seems.” The difference is temporary, and as unreal as time itself.

Staying with God 24/7

by Rev. Daniel Cratcha, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

When I first discovered ACIM, I remember being fascinated by the idea of staying with God 24/7. I thought it was the most bizarre concept I’d ever heard. Now, it is one of my main mantras and I walk with Joshua joyfully. I have changed more in the past couple of years than I had in the previous 20. I am grateful beyond words.

About two years ago, Spirit directed me to start channeling music and the songs came, songs I could never have written on my own. So I know one of the main parts of my ministry is going to be creation of love through music. My first CD is going to be called “Love Songs to ACIM” and I dream of a web site named the same, a place for bringing the music of otherss inspired by ACIM to a tangible medium. I know Spirit will deliver my music to those who need to hear it.

I also know this is not all God would have me do. I’ve been in the mental health field for many years, much of this time as a mental health therapist.

ACIM has shown me that my counseling methods were often upside down, me as the expert and the patient as limited and weak. I was the expert and had all the answers for my patients. I would diagnose the problem from my ego’s view and then direct the client to view the world in the way I wanted him or her to. As much as I’ve learned from ACIM, I’ve also had to unlearn many distorted ego beliefs about “helping others.” I thought I was really good at what I did. Not so much. Now that I’ve learned to follow Spirit and be guided by Him, I believe I’m ready to help others on a whole new level.

At this point, I believe I would be most helpful in working with terminal illness. I’m not sure how I would do this, but I believe Spirit will guide me to where I would be most helpful. I’m sure there are other areas as well and I again believe Spirit will guide me to serve where He would have me serve. Of this I am sure.
