Just Say “Yes!”

As a facilitator of the Pathways of Light Spiritual and Ministerial Training Courses, I am so blessed to be aware of Holy Spirit teaching me through my interactions with students as we go through the material. I always hand over our sessions to Inner Guidance and am truly delighted with whatever unfolds in our discussion.

Recently a student was expressing some difficulty with close family relationships and a reluctance to engage in communication as there was always an expectation of criticism and obligation. This student even said that they believed Holy Spirit did not want them to interact with these family members as (the student) was “not ready.” In other words, the “spiritual muscles” were not yet developed enough for them to be “safe” in that environment. Even though this student was a delightful person and a very loving and bright Light in their experience with almost anyone else, certain family members made them withdraw and feel the need to isolate from them.

As I listened to the student say, “No!” (literally) to communication, I distinctly heard in my mind, “Just say yes.” I knew I was receiving Guidance and asked in my own mind, “How do I do that?” Then the idea came to me to offer an experiment of sorts to the student. I suggested that for just one day the student would say, “Yes” to whatever choice was offered in their experience. When I sensed a little stiffening to the experiment, I said that the day should be set up the night before by asking Holy Spirit to bring only those situations that Holy Spirit WANTS them to choose to say, “Yes.” That way the student could be assured that Holy Spirit “has their back,” and would never bring an experience or choice that was not in their best interest, even if it didn’t appear that way at first.

Then it came to me to participate in the same exercise and I let the student know we would both have our results to share at our next session. It was very well received and I found myself intrigued with the idea.

Two days later, I received a text from a family friend who is also my brother’s best friend. I have not communicated with Gary (the friend) for many years. My brother is very ill and Gary was just letting me know that he was planning to drive to see him. Gary lives about 45 minutes away from me in Colorado and my brother and the rest of my family live in Missouri. His text was just to say he was planning to visit my brother as he was worried about him.

I was surprised to get the text but my first thought after reading it was, “Want some company?” I had been handing it over to Holy Spirit how I was going to be able to get back to see my brother and family as I had limited options for the trip myself, none of which were very convenient or appealing.

Of course, ego jumped in right away with all the reasons why it would be a bad idea to offer to go with Gary. We haven’t seen or talked to each other in years; we didn’t have anything in common; he is very religious and I am not; we are of opposite political persuasions; what would his wife think; and on and on (the ego is relentless). I shared the text with Colleen (my spouse) and she immediately said, “I think you should go.” Then I remembered the experiment: Just say yes. I replied to Gary’s text with an offer to help with the drive and gas if he wanted company. It turned out that was the reason he let me know he was going — to see if I was interested in going with him.

Gary and I had a wonderful road trip and we talked about everything. I learned so much about his life, family, and devotion to service in his religion. It didn’t matter at all about what I thought we had in common because it became evident very quickly that Love was where we were connected. It meant so much to my brother to see and spend time with both of us. I had the opportunity to heal relationships with my brother and sisters and their families that had suffered from our separation over the last several years. Everything seemed so easy and effortless. Several times during the visit I chose to say “Yes” when I might have said “no,” and every time it was the right choice. Every. Time.

Again, I am so Blessed to be aware of the opportunities presented to me by Holy Spirit to heal my mind. When I think I am offering help to a student or anyone else in my experience, I am helping myself. We Are All One. When I accept that Holy Spirit “has my back,” I can look at situations and relationships differently. There are no more challenging people or circumstances, just opportunities. “I can hardly wait to see the good that comes from this,” is a favorite saying of ours. Visiting a brother who is nearing end of life in this world gave me the opportunity to heal my mind about relationships. My brother’s circumstance gave me a wonderful gift.

By following Guidance with Holy Spirit and saying “Yes,” I was certain to be led to Peace.

Need a Boost? I Do. So, Here’s a Boost!

As I work here today at our Pause studio, I am feeling incredibly blessed to be doing the work I am doing — that Infinite Love is creating — and that is being shared through so many of us in our willingness to get out of our own way and let LOVE, love us so we can love others in the daily operations of life.

REMEMBER?

Yesterday, as I stepped out of our Pause studio door and stood in the parking lot, I heard a thought from My True Self, “It doesn’t get better than this.” I REMEMBERED that I have been gifted, as you have as well, with living the life I always hoped to live — a life chosen not by me, but by the ONE LOVE who gave me LIFE — in the most wondrous sense of the word. And infuses LIFE into my everyday life of being of service, knowing my True Self, knowing GOD, following LOVE’s call to love, working for a nonprofit with a team of people as devoted and dedicated as I am — each willing to be and do our part — to be a light in the darkness. Not perfect, simply willing. Not willing 100% of the time, but that is an ego accusation to be noticed and dismissed. Poof!

Don’t be fooled. You have been prepared.

I AM REMEMBERING that I have been prepared and am always being prepared by the One who is the Preparer. What I thought were missed opportunities, poor decisions, wrong turns, have in fact been exactly what was needed to occur for me to “become” who I am, be my Being and do what is mine to do. There are no accidents, only “errors” that LOVE will create something good out of if I am willing to get out of the way. I have never believed that before now, so this is a miracle! A true change in perception from false self-thinking (thinking on my own without LOVE) and believing the ego accuser, now changed to accepting that we are all always being prepared to open more deeply to truth, for truth is our absolute nature that cannot be undone, no matter what.

Harmonious and appearing not so divinely synced events occur, each a potential doorway to LOVE if that is what I truly want! If I want more self-absorption, I can choose that too, but WISDOM will use that too if I step back and let WISDOM lead the way.

I REMEMBER a sick man saying to Jesus of Nazareth, “Master, you can heal me if you are willing.” Jesus responded, “I am willing.” The man was healed. Even Jesus had to practice stepping back and willingness for a miracle to occur.

How else can I possibly love?

Everything is unfolding exactly as planned as I write this, as you read this. The ego is always questioning, doubting, and trying desperately to cause confusion, division, and dismay within, among us, and between us, but such shadows that evoke attack of ourselves and others need our pause and our stepping back else we follow like a dumb mouse chasing a paper ball appearing as if a piece of cheese. Hmm. We will remain hungering for that which we already have in our full possession, what we have all already been given, what is happening NOW! Let’s not let these be just words because we hear, say, and read them all the time.

Pause, Step Back, Reflect, Remember

I AM REMEMBERING a most eternal JOY — not a boisterous, look at me and how “happy” I am pretending to be kind of joy, rather a JOY that is quietly expanding our entire Being. Motion inside of motion, stillness inside of stillness. A JOY that motioned me to be still and share what I have shared here without knowing this is what I would be sharing. This is because it was not shared by me, but through my True Self. I needed a boost, thought others might too. I got one. Hope you did too!

I see the golden leaves blowing on the tree outside my office window and laying contently on the ground, not longing for some unmet need. Nothing is missing. All is well.  … In Remembrance, Mary

In Gratitude I Heal Every Relationship

A prayer for healing relationships inspired by POL Course 903: Gratitude for God’s Gifts:

In gratitude I am whole.

I become aware I am one with God and am One here and now in holy relationship with all my brothers and sisters.

I let gratitude lead me Home…

In gratitude I accept and appreciate all as it is now. All circumstances, all conditions, all beings as they appear. I remember that by myself I don’t know what any of it means so I surrender its meaning and purpose to the Holy Spirit.

I now appreciate, accept and give thanks for all that I have inherited as a Child of God…

The Grace and Gifts given I happily receive and share with all inclusively.

In gratitude I now extend love and appreciation to all equally…

I recognize that all are included in Love in Reality. Sometimes we remember and demonstrate that we indeed remember the Love we share equally with all. We remember that eternal Love is our True Nature.

It is apparent that at times some have forgotten. It also appears that I at times have forgotten. This forgetting thankfully is a temporary condition. For those in this temporary state of forgetting, I have the power God gave me and the choice to remember Love for them until they remember for themselves. Through the gentle, loving guidance of my inner Teacher, we remember together.

In gratitude I now extend Love and appreciation to all equally…

I especially appreciate all for playing their role in our collective awakening. Even if I don’t understand or am tempted to judge; perhaps especially in those times, I release my judgment and need to understand and I simply trust in Spirit totally. I trust in God that all are being called and carried through every seeming difficulty and detour.

In gratitude I accept the Truth that All is One in the Mind of God…

I gratefully see and celebrate the wholeness, innocence and perfection of my brothers and sisters…

We are joined with our Father in Heaven.

In gratitude I heal and am made whole.

Being Carried

During all the years that Pathways of Light has been in my life, I have listened to Robert and Mary Stoelting express often that they feel like they are “being carried.” I always loved hearing them say that. They have put Holy Spirit in charge and have been led on many adventures. Their latest journey, the move from Florida to Huntley, IL, is just the most recent example of their trust in being carried by Holy Spirit.

I have been keeping a journal for many years. Occasionally I look back at my journal for inspiration and for clarity on my past. 

My current journal begins almost one year ago. Christmas had just passed, and I was preparing to take my annual drive to my winter home in south Florida in the new year 2021. I am a snowbird, spending my winters in Florida and the rest of the year on Long Island.

I read in my journal about my burning desire to find and rescue a nice dog. I also read about my wife Laura’s encouragement to find a nicer place with a better location for the winter. I expected that a new place would cost more, and I had some money in a savings account allocated for that.

I thought that rescuing a dog would be easy. Selling my FL condo and buying a new one, however, felt like a daunting task. I don’t know much about swapping real estate or rescuing a dog.

However, I read this except from my current journal dated January 1, 2021:

“Again, I ask You to guide me with getting a dog and buying and selling a home in FL without overextending my finances. I need Your support, Holy Spirit, to tell me if this is a good idea. It sounds like a lot of work and a lot could go wrong. I don’t want Lulu (Laura) to be unhappy once this is done. So, I depend on Your help. It should be fun. You are in charge by my request.”

Laura continues to work up in New York while I am in FL. She visits several times in the winter, but I am on my own for the most part. I know very little about real estate and had not owned a dog in over twenty years. I lacked confidence in my own ability to get this done properly.
Fast forward to the present moment.

I plan on driving down to FL on January 2 with my new dog Buddha. My new place in FL is located on a small lake close to my brother and sister-in-law. Although the place needed a great deal of work, I bought it at a low price and had the savings to renovate.

I found a contractor in FL that just happened to be a football and lacrosse player on the first teams I ever coached back in the mid-1970’s. This former student/player of mine, Mike, was most certainly sent by Holy Spirit. When I returned to NY, Mike put in a new kitchen, 2 new bathrooms, all new hurricane-proof windows, new lighting, new closets. He fixed everything so that the place looks brand new.

The dog, Buddha, that Holy Spirit found for me has been a joy. Holy Spirit sent me another former player, Marlon, who is an excellent dog trainer. He has been great. Buddha is now a well-trained border collie mix that has the “therapy support dog” documentation that allows me to have him in my new condo unit.

This is certainly not the first time, nor the most important, that I have recognized myself being carried by Holy Spirit. It is, however, a recent example that alerts me to His constant presence.

When things DON’T work out the way I had hoped, I have been taught to see it as a lesson I need to learn. I often get frustrated with people, things, and events. But all these thoughts simply need to be given to Holy Spirit for correction. This is the practice Course students have been given.

Not everything seems to go my way. But if I keep God as my goal, I feel the Love that is always there for me.

I am being carried. I am very grateful for the recognition that there is another way of looking at the world. “All things are lessons God would have me learn” (W-193). And I am grateful for His continued guidance.
