Seeing Through the Lens of Love

I am grateful to have the opportunity to share how the Course continues to assist me in this life experience, particularly in the area of parenting.

I have two wonderful college age boys that I now recognize as two of my greatest teachers. This means that they have mirrored to me some of my most limiting beliefs that I have projected onto them. Looking into that mirror and owning the limiting beliefs, all with roots in fear, has not been an easy or pleasant task. It has been messy, emotionally and physically draining at times. However, the results of pulling out the weeds of fear in my garden of life continues to be deeply rewarding. I have experienced more peace and freedom than I ever thought was possible AND I still forget, at times, who I am and who they are.

Having an ongoing practice of reading and practicing the lessons of the Course has been a great support in returning to Love when I leave the Christ Consciousness. The Course serves as a bridge, if you will, a path, for me to take to return home to the Truth. That Truth is, “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.” (ACIM, Preface.1:1-3)

For me, I am aware that I can be viewing life through the lens of: This is a problem, this is a challenge, this is an opportunity or this is a gift. For me, the first two align with the ego thought system, while the latter two align with seeing with eyes of Christ.

As a parent I have held the belief many times that my boys’ behavior was a problem or challenge. With this ego mindset, my reactionary behavior was based in fear and not Love. For nearly five years now I have been experiencing a wonderful shift in more consistently seeing their behaviors as opportunities and gifts, which allow me to respond with Love, as Love/Peace is my primary purpose.

The Course states, “There is no condemnation in him.” (W-198.12.1) “Condemn and you are made a prisoner. Forgive and you are freed. Such is the law that rules perception.” (W-198.2.1-3)

Recently I had the opportunity to face a fear, own it and pull it out of my garden. I told both of my boys when they went off to college that joining a fraternity was not an option.

This past fall, when my youngest went off to college, he called me up one day to share that he wanted to get honest with me; he was rushing for a fraternity. He was in the midst of what is known as “hell week” and would drop out if I wanted him to.

Amazingly, I didn’t overact! I told him I’d like to take some time to consider his choice and I would get back to him. Miracles do happen! I responded with Love!  It didn’t hurt when he said, “Take all the time you need mom.” LOL

I surrendered my decision to Spirit, giving thanks in advance for how to proceed. I reviewed my stance, “No frats.” I came to the conclusion I didn’t have any experience with them personally. I had bought into a cultural representation of them from TV. That representation was low vibrational. Join a frat and you will get into trouble. It was easy to see my stance was based in fear. I was willing to release this fear and see through the lens of Love.

Ask and help is given! Synchronistically, soon after my processing, on the same day of this call, I had a scheduled prayer partner call. I shared this situation with my prayer partner. Miraculously, his dad was the President of a fraternity while in college. My prayer partner, Michael, shared how his dad loved his fraternity so much that he wanted him to go to college and join a frat! He went on to share a few stories of how wonderful his dad’s brothers in the fraternity were to his family over the years.

This experience solidified that I was on the right track to releasing my stance on “no frats.” Let me add that I did research the frat and have ongoing conversations with my son regarding his experience with it.

Just last night he shared with me a video of him taking the polar bear plunge with his frat brothers. This fundraising event led his fraternity to raising over $2,000 for a charity. What a beautiful expression of Love!

In conclusion, I want to say thank you, to both Ryan and Regan, “for giving” me the opportunity to grow and evolve into my Highest Self, which is truly an ongoing process to see everything and everyone through the lens of Love.

A Close Encounter

“All His children have His total Love…” (T-1.V. 3:3)

I recently had a close encounter with Elon Musk. And before you think this is a political commercial for or against Musk’s actions in the White House, please know that God used Elon to teach me about Love.

I, like many others, have had a challenging time trying to see through the smokescreen of all the mandates emanating from the White House since Jan. 20th. My “right” mind tells me “It’s not real,” yet my “other” mind screams at me: “Look at all the suffering Musk (and Trump) are causing by taking away thousands of Americans’ livelihoods! Look at the millions of people across the world who won’t get the aid they need to stay healthy and fed! People will actually die because of all these mandates! Even your own son may lose his long-held job and be thrust into a position of suddenly not being able to support his family!”

Every time these thoughts would enter my mind or I would “catch” another headline (I do not actually watch or read much of the news), I would immediately have to stop and call out to the Holy Spirit to help re-center me, re-ground me in the Truth. It felt like as soon as I recovered from one bombshell, another one exploded before my physical eyes! I felt overwhelmed by my own projections coming up to be released. I grew weary.

Then one day, I happened to see a headline about Elon Musk’s Tesla stock falling. And out of nowhere, I heard a gleeful voice say to me: “Yes! That’ll teach him!” I was so surprised by this voice, that I actually said out loud: “Who said that?” I was shocked to realize that the voice I heard was my own! And the feeling I was experiencing was one of vengefulness. I was actually happy to hear that he was losing money!

I was stunned. I realized that I had not had a vengeful thought about anyone or anything in a long, long time, but all that was happening through the actions of our President and his seeming best friend, was joyful news to my ego. Ego was elated and overjoyed at the effect this was having in me. I stopped what I was doing and began praying the Ho’oponopono prayer and turning it all over to Holy Spirit to transmute into Love and Light. I remembered to be gentle with myself and not to judge my momentary lapse into insanity.

But I could tell there was still something missing. I wasn’t quite back to my Self.

That night, Spirit provided the missing piece for me: Love!

I had a dream, although it was so real to me it seemed like it was actually happening. It is a dream I hope I never forget, for it drove home to me the importance of applying Love to every situation!

In the dream, Elon Musk was sitting at a desk and I was across from him. He was looking very intently at me for a long time…... Then he spoke.

“Remember, I am not who I seem to be.”

We continued to lock eyes for a time. Then, I could see the expression on his protracted face begin to change. There was a longing in his eyes. A pleading. A look, that to me, said a thousand words. His whole demeanor transformed before my eyes. He spoke again, in a trembly voice with uncertainty in his tone, yet with hope in his eyes.

“Can you still love me anyway?”

Time seemed to stand still and then fade away entirely. I saw beyond the physical figure in front of me. The figure of a dejected, worn out, depleted body transformed into a beautiful swirling Light that I instantly recognized as his True Essence.

I was silent. But the two of us were connected in a way unlike anything I have ever consciously experienced before. I answered Elon’s question without a word being spoken, by a spontaneous gesture that brought happy tears to my eyes. Suddenly, a huge wave of what I can only call Love wafted from my being to his and the two of us joined together as One. Love flowed from one of us to the other and back again, over and over, in a never ending outpouring of Love! I felt entirely encapsulated by warmth and kindness and Pure Love. It was surely bliss!

As I write these words, I realize there was a part of the dream I had forgotten. Spirit brought this part back to my remembrance. The Love that surrounded us both and connected us was emanating from Our Creator, Our Father/Mother God! And though no words were spoken aloud, the message that rang loud and clear through my being was this:

“My Beloved Children!”

The experience was indescribable! I knew then and there that Elon Musk was loved by God! He was my brother! How could I not love him? No matter his outer personality’s behaviors, no matter the “image” he puts forth in this world of dreams, I now “knew” him for Who He Really Is! (T-3.III)

I desired to stay in that state of being forever, but I did, of course, awaken from the dream. I lingered in the after-glow of the Love I just experienced. I was quiet and in awe for awhile. Gradually, I fully returned to “this” dream-world, but I was changed forever.

I don’t look at Elon Musk the way I used to. I may not always like Elon’s outer actions, but now, when I “see” his face, I don’t “see” with my physical eyes; instead, I See with my Spiritual Eyes. I See that beautiful Soul that he is truly. I See that We Are One. I See that We Are Both God’s Beloveds. I See that All of us are God’s Beloveds! And I actually feel the warmth of God’s Love swirling in my heart.

Thank you, God, for my close encounter with Love!

Holy Spirit’s Gentle Lessons in Contrast

“I sure like the wheat bread (that we are out of) more than this sourdough.” (what we had, and he is currently eating), my husband shouted (ok, maybe not shouted, said) from the other room. “Well, I bought that because I was using it for a soup recipe where it gets blended in, so I didn’t buy the good kind that we like.”

A few moments later, I notice I am tense, a little uptight, not in a state of peace.

“In my defenselessness my safety lies.” (W-153)

I defended myself. My husband was merely sharing a preference, and I took it personally and defended myself. My peace was shattered.

Does “shattered” seem overly dramatic? A Course in Miracles tells us there are no levels to upset. I defended myself; I lost my peace. But, because I have seen this show before (over and over), I stopped this pain train in its tracks and hopped off. I stopped, I got silent, and I heard “In my defenselessness my safety lies.” So, I forgave myself and my defensiveness. Because that was its purpose — for me to forgive it.

I am currently participating in the Step 5 Relationship Counseling Training through Pathways of Light. A few weeks ago, it was suggested that we look at Workbook Lesson 193, “All things are lessons God would have me learn.” As I was about to head out on an overnight road trip with my husband, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to practice what Jesus tells us to do in this lesson.

“Shall we not learn to say these words [forgive, and you will see this differently] when we are tempted to believe that pain is real, and death becomes our choice instead of life? Shall we not learn to say these words when we have understood their power to release all minds from bondage? These are words which give you power over all events that seem to have been given power over you. You see them rightly when you hold these words in full awareness, and do not forget these words apply to everything you see or any brother looks upon amiss.” (W-193.6)

As we headed out, I was determined to let Holy Spirit take the wheel. I made a conscious decision to let go of my agenda and to just “go with the flow”. If I felt tension arise in my body during the trip, if my husband asked me to stop yet again, I would remember another part of the lesson: “I will forgive, and this will disappear.” (W-193.13:3)

And it did. We had a wonderful trip, everything worked out perfectly, the way “I” had planned, but even better — until the drive home. It was only the next day, but I forgot to give my day over to Holy Spirit. I told the dog sitter we would be home by three, and that was that. No stopping, no detours, and not very much patience, love, or compassion either.

It didn’t take me long to realize what had happened and that I would have had a better experience if I had followed “the flow”. We could have stopped at a fun looking, semi-local haunt that I’ve never been to and have wanted to try that was on the way home. But instead, we ended up walking through the door, relieving the sitter, turning right back around (and leaving our little Sammy alone again) and heading down to a not so great, but it costs a lot, early dinner.

It was such a great lesson in contrast for me. I forgave and I experienced joy, connection, abundance, and peace. When I defended my position, I lost peace. I am so grateful for the Holy Spirit’s gentle lessons and that I can choose to learn them with a happy heart. With every opportunity to practice, my commitment to teach only Love grows.

Extending Love Is Our Only Purpose

We bring Love into the world as we remember that our true purpose is to extend Love instead of judgment to everyone in this world.

Our Inner Teacher leads us past our individual ‘self’s’ belief in guilt and separation by helping us see the innocence of every brother we see in the dream of separation.

It is the Holy Spirit in our mind that shows us the Light of Love that is the truth of every brother. The Love in every brother is not a dream but the eternal truth of What he is. It is our one true Self that shows us this as we are ready and willing to receive the truth.

In the Course Jesus tells us, “Forget not that the healing of God’s Son is all the world is for. That is the only purpose the Holy Spirit sees in it, and thus the only one it has. Until you see the healing of the Son as all you wish to be accomplished by the world, by time and all appearances, you will not know the Father nor yourself. For you will use the world for what is not its purpose, and will not escape its laws of violence and death.” (T-24.VI.4:1-4)

As we allow our ‘life’ purpose to be about forgiving the world from all we thought it was, we welcome the Holy Spirit to lift us above the laws of this world to free us from the belief in specialness and differences. As we are willing, the Holy Spirit shows us the world of oneness that lies past the world of differences. The Holy Spirit frees us from believing in the fearful images of loss, pain and death.

Recognizing our brother’s holiness benefits us in that it helps us remember that what God created has not changed. What God gave us (Himself), He gave for all eternity. This means we are still safe in the Mind of God, just as every brother is. We have lost nothing, even though it may seem so in our dreams of separation.

Jesus tells us, “Your brother’s holiness shows you that God is one with him and you; that what he has is yours because you are not separate from him nor from his Father.” (T-24.VI.2:5)

When we let go of illusions of what we are, the Holy Spirit can help us remember the Love that created us. Divisive judgments are replaced by inclusive recognition of the Love that joins us with all of Reality. We learn to overlook appearances or differences and see our unity with every brother in God’s Love. God sees us all as one in His Love.

Our true purpose is to see everyone equally as sinless. Our true purpose is to see that God created us all the same and that, in truth, there are no differences.  We are learning from the Holy Spirit to see that we all are the same sinless Son of God. As we extend to everyone equally the Love our one Self gives us, we give impartial witness to the power of God’s Love and justice. And what we give, we receive because there is but one Self.

As we learn from our Inner Teacher to see past the ‘self’ of another, we are helped to release the idea that we are an individual ‘self.’ This forgiveness process of letting go of ego concepts of individuality and differences leads us back to the recognition that, in truth, we are united as one Self in the one Mind of Love.

Jesus tells us, “…changing concepts is salvation’s task.”

(T:31.VII.1:3)

The Holy Spirit uses bridges to lead us from where we think we are to where we are in truth. The Holy Spirit gradually leads us to the recognition that all concepts of the ‘self’ are meaningless in the end.

Our Inner Teacher leads us past our individual ‘self’s’ belief in guilt and separation by helping us see the innocence of every brother we see in the dream of separation.

“You cannot give yourself your innocence, for you are too confused about yourself. But should one brother dawn upon your sight as wholly worthy of forgiveness, then your concept of yourself is wholly changed. Your ‘evil’ thoughts have been forgiven with his, because you let them all affect you not. No longer do you choose that you should be the sign of evil and of guilt in him. And as you give your trust to what is good in him, you give it to the good in you.” (T:31.VII.2:4-8)

We ascend into Heaven when we completely identify with Christ, the Son of God. No part of our mind seeks anything other than to be part of the eternal giving and receiving of God’s Love. We celebrate Christ today by welcoming the presence of Love within and giving it to all without limit. This is our part in the salvation of the world.

We join with the Holy Spirit in our mind to see the truth of Love in every brother. Love does not judge whether anyone is worthy, for it sees only the truth in everyone. Love sees only Love.

Let’s join to celebrate the presence of Christ in our mind by accepting the Holy Spirit’s help to let go of beliefs that seem to separate us from our brothers. Without those interfering beliefs, the giving and receiving of Love flows freely and we remember that Heaven is our Home.

In our daily practice of accepting the help of the Holy Spirit when we feel fearful or judgmental, we are guided to let Holy Spirit guide us back to accepting the Love that we are and return to giving the Love that is everyone’s true Nature.

We are guided to return to the truth that the Heaven of Love is our true Home and that there is nothing but Love to see. We return to giving Love instead of thinking we know anything on our own.
 
Below is a meditation we received from the Holy Spirit to help us rise above to see the Love when we forget and find ourselves judging something or someone:

Relax and open to the presence of God’s peace and quiet…

Let the Holy Spirit heal your perceptions by inspiring you with how to see everyone as still being one with God…
As you do this, you also remember your oneness and safety in God…

Let the Holy Spirit remind you that there is only one, changeless, perfect eternal Love…

Because we were all created by God, we are all the same Love as God… We are all changeless Love eternally…

As you practice day-by-day seeing the eternal truth about each and every brother, you are able to see that everyone is still the Love of God. Everyone is still in the holy Home of God Himself…

You practice seeing the eternal truth until that is all you want to see…

You see clearly that as you accept and extend the truth of universal Love, you become a Teacher of Love, expressing Love in the world…
