How many times have you been in a team meeting or group situation and had the thoughts of, “Wow, they have their act together!” or “I wish my new team was buttoned up like my old team”? Even with an individual person, you can have these kinds of thoughts, and then you confide in another ‘trusted’ person to share your ‘perceived observations’ of the other individual’s achievements or inadequacies.
And how many times have you blamed another for the cause of your own problems? Even looking around you, in the news, on the street, in your home, or even in your place of worship, finger pointing happens. Think about how many times and on which end you have played which role. How many times did you feel special and how many times did you feel weakened?
All these situations reflect comparisons between people or situations. A Course in Miracles teaches us that comparing makes separation real, thus it is a device of the ego. Comparing makes one person ‘special’ and one person ‘weak.’ Any time this occurs a judgment is made which is an attack on our Self, whether we are aware of this fact or not.
Since specialness is an ego device, specialness is cloaked in all relationships, including special relationships. Special relationships are easily defined as your romantic partner, close family and friends. We all put these groups up on a pedestal or create special rules or constructs in and around these people. The Course is very clear. There is only One holy Son of God and that is everyone we see in the illusion. Our job is to see beyond the body we see with our eyes to be the Oneness in everyone we see. This does not mean that we do not love our partners, families or friends. It means to love everyone because Love is What we all are in reality.
Recently at work, ‘an awareness’ has surfaced of this very nature. I found myself comparing in various situations, thus judging people, events and the overall idea of work. Not such pleasurable thoughts, but ones to ponder my beliefs, values, and participation in order to let go of the hidden guilt; any thoughts or ideas where I’ve made a judgment of any kind and where my inner peace and love is shut down. Therefore, how can I see the truth of love and peace of my Self without first seeing it in others?
In order to attain the state of inner peace, the Course talks about how I must release all ideas of specialness or lack that I hold against others and myself. Forgiveness is the means of releasing all specialness I hold in my ego mind. Forgiveness is done along with the help of the Holy Spirit, Who knows the Truth of all things. Seeing only Truth in wholeness and innocence, the Holy Spirit clears away all limiting thoughts.
Only illusions can be forgiven and once forgiven the illusion disappears into the nothingness of which it was created. Slowly and gently our Spirit Mind fills our awareness and inner peace and love becomes our being, returning us to the state we have never left.

I was listening to a beautiful song that was being sung by the Indian woman Pocahontas in the animated film titled the same; and one of the phrases in the song was, “Have you ever seen the colors of the wind?”
It gave me a moment to pause and reflect. I thought about sitting on the beach, feeling the wind caress my face and the scent of the ocean on the breeze. I remembered how the sun warmed my body as I melted softy into the warm sand. I heard the soft melodic rhythm of the waves as they gently rolled across the shore and the seagulls singing with delight as they hungrily soared above the sea in search of their next meal. Children were laughing in the distance as they ran splashing into the cool sparkling crystal water. I remember how blissful I felt lying there in my cocoon of peace.
In this cluster of memories, I realize that I can see the colors of the wind and how they express all the beauty that surrounds us, comforts us and pleases us. Now, as I think back about times like these, I believe that God is always finding a way to comfort us in our feeling of separation. He allows the creative forces to heal us of our fear and loneliness, even when we forget Who we really are. He has provided that spark of Love that encapsulates us wherever we are.
We can feel loved in the arms of the mother earth as we sojourn here, searching for our way back Home. Although I’ve heard it said that we cannot see God, I realize that we really do see God in all things. When we focus on Love and Peace, we see God as clearly as we see the colors of the wind. The beauty of the earth and the love we have for each other is the same as the colors of the wind. We are all expressions of Gods Love.

Excuses are the greatest
hidden barriers
towards Oneness with God.
We want this Oneness with Love;
We long for Love and nothing else
BUT
“Tomorrow will do because
now I am busy.
Later, I can make time
for my spiritual life
BUT
Now I need to do this
and I need to do that!”
Didn’t Jesus speak about
this in the parable about
the wedding feast?
I will watch out for excuses,
for if I don’t, they will distract me
from that which ALONE
is worthy of my time:
AWAKENING from this dream,
which claims that I am
separate from God. Amen

It is amazing how, when I go through the Workbook lessons, that day’s lesson brings out, in form, what I am working on as I go about my daily routine.
A few days ago, I was working on Lesson 200, “There is no peace except the peace of God.” Before leaving for work, I read the lesson and did my morning meditation on the phrase as I always do according to the Workbook instructions.
After I finished, I walked outside to get to my car. I don’t remember what set me off, but I no sooner shut the door behind me and I was already in a rage over something. I got into my car and drove away and there were a series of events to feed my fire.
As I drove to work, the Voice reminded me, “There is no peace except the peace of God.” I shouted at my steering wheel, “That’s correct! There certainly isn’t any peace in what is here in front of me!” I started laughing. What a Bozo I am.
Well, I drive a school bus, as you probably already know. Each day brings me a new lesson in extreme forgiveness when I get out on the highway. So, back into my rage I go, frequently remembering, “There is no peace except the peace of God.”
It didn’t let up. All day long, I seemed to find something that would upset my peace. I never had a chance to come down from my high tower of rage. (Really, I’m not a maniac. No one ever knows how I’m feeling unless I share my feelings with someone in conversation. Sorry for making you crazy, Rev. Cerise.)
At the end of the day, I heard Holy Spirit call to me. Here is what he told me:
“You have to understand that you are not going to find peace in anything you see in front of you. Nothing nor no one will give you peace. Go find a better job. No peace there. Go out and find a romantic interest. No peace there. Make a lot of money. No peace there. In fact, everything in front of you, whether you label it thrillingly good or miserably bad, it will give you no peace.
“Stop looking for peace. It doesn’t exist anywhere outside of yourself. It doesn’t exist within your body either. You do possess the peace you are looking for, but your body is actually outside your Self as well.
“Let me lead you to peace. I’ll show you where it’s hidden. It is inside you, but don’t confuse “you” with that pile of bones and flesh you are harnessed to.
“Your day today has been a living lesson and testimony to Lesson 200. ‘There is no peace except the peace of God.’”
