Love Heals

I do not believe that time heals all wounds. But I do believe that Love does. There are practical applications of ACIM for which I am grateful. Above all others, I am drawn to the concept that only the Love is real in any situation.

In this world, losing a child is considered one of the worst human experiences some must endure. It has been just over a year since I lost my son, Kevin. Some told me that one does not ever recover from such an experience. I could be expected to have great difficulty just being able to get out of bed in the morning. Some people believe in their role of being the victim of such a tragedy. It defines the rest of their lives. They don’t believe they can recover to live happily — and so they don’t.

“I am not a victim of the world I see.” (W-31) “There is another way of looking at this.” (W-33) These ACIM Workbook lessons are affirmations that tell me to change my mind about the world. I understand that losing my son, Kevin, to the insidious grip of heroin after many years of recovery and relapse is a terrible nightmare within this “dream” of living in separate bodies. But this is where the principles of ACIM take on practical application while I am having this human experience.

None of the nightmare with Kevin was real. All of the love that we shared during his 27 years was. There is no death. Kevin’s Spirit is eternal — part of the Oneness. The Spirit was never born nor can it ever die. Only the Love we share is truly real in the human experience. All the rest is illusion.

Believing in the concepts and principles of ACIM has given me great strength in dealing with such a senseless loss. We all need that strength to live in this world happily. We need to accept that each of us is the sinless, guiltless Child of God. We are dreaming the ego’s dream but we have a path to awaken. “I could see peace instead of this.” (W-34)

I am willing to turn my ego thoughts over to Spirit and allow Him to be in charge. With trust in Him, I can learn to live in gratitude for all the love that continues to come my way. Without this trust, I would not be able to experience and enjoy the love. I would not be able to recognize it because I had chosen to listen to the wrong teacher.

“God’s answer is some form of peace. All pain is healed; all misery replaced with joy. All prison doors are opened. And all sin is understood as merely a mistake.” (W-359) I have great gratitude for the lessons I have learned from ACIM. Since only the Love is real, it is where I choose to keep my focus. This is a practical application of living ACIM. It is Love, not time, that heals.

The Place of Light

This was given to me in a very powerful dream early this morning. If He says it to me, He’s saying it to you. Let’s all find this place. I have been there today. There is no place in the illusion that compares.

I take you to the place of Light. I bring you here because this place has been abandoned and neglected for a very long time.

I give this place to you. Come here often and sit in the stillness. Absorb the Eternal Light that comes down upon you. Listen to the silence as it enfolds you and caresses your soul.

Let your world fade away into the background. Do not allow anxiety or worry to get in your way while you are here.

This place is sacred. This place is holy. You make this place holy, because you are holy. You are the Light of the world. You hold the Light for the world. Lift high the Light that all who dwell in darkness may see.

Forgiveness is your function as the Light of the world. Hold this place of Light and silence and stillness for the world you think you see. Learn the true meaning of forgiveness and simply forgive yourself and your brother.

Cleanse your soul of the body’s restraint. Shower away the form and the structure of your illusion. Strip yourself of all that you think is dear to you. You will find that you have lost nothing. A world of wonder and enlightenment awaits you.

Each time you enter this place, know that you are being transported to your true Home. Know that you are no longer of this world, nor are you in it. Come here often and be transported away from your illusion. I will be there with you. I will hold your hand. I will carry you that you do not have to toil and tire yourself to be worthy of this Place you have been given.

You are worthy of this Place because I have said so. Let no one tell you differently.

I will be looking for you. I trust I will see you here often. I look forward to spending eternal moments together with you.

Sit and stay as long as you like. Think on the things that I have been telling you. When you walk from this Place, you can keep It with you deep in your heart. Never lose sight of what you have been given today.

Letting Go of Guilt

I had been asking Holy Spirit to heal my mind during my night dreaming. On two consecutive mornings, I had dreams with my ex-husband. They showed me the guilt I had buried, carefully hidden in my mind. I noticed on waking how I could play a role in the dream and still be a detached observer, without judgment.

Spirit told me:

The ‘ego’ keeps you in chains; guilt is its mainstay and its cause. Yet you made it and the dream that you are guilty. This was done to support the first erroneous idea that you could leave your Creator. You are not a separate identity (ego) and you actually need no defense, no protection from outside attacks. You are mistaken and have made a choice to identify with a thought you made yet will/can never be “you.”

In this dream you got to see that you still love (extend love to) your brother and this will never change. It is not the special love that you both once searched for. Yet if you recognize that you do love your brother and this has not changed, you then can not be guilty as charged. When you realize (real-eyes) his innocence you then can know your own.

What you made in the waking dream never really happened and the former husband only played the role you assigned him. This scenario appeared in your mind by the belief that you were guilty of leaving God, and the ego’s function is to make certain that you remain chained in guilt. Giving up all false beliefs to Love (Holy Spirit) for correction, frees you of the insane ideas that you are guilty, condemned and merit eternal punishment. Give up the false ideas of separation and you accept the truth of your Creator and your Self. You did not make a separate self, you remain as God created you. There is nothing in you that is not of God.

Remember this day, that you never ceased loving your brother. Any story made by the little mind has not changed the eternal truth of Love. You did not “kill” your brother, you did not maim him in reality. The dream of guilt is over, for you love your brother, you are forever innocent as he. Remember this only and not the shadows in a dream made in madness and fear.
Epilogue

I experienced such a sense of calm and peace when I woke, allowing this understanding to take deep root. However gruesome the appearance in the dream, it never really happened the way I thought it did. It was fabricated from a sick mind, it was a call for help from me to Spirit. And Love always answers, no matter how I may resist. I am grateful for Love’s patience and answers.

My Grievances Hide the Light of the World In Me

The light of the world is in me. I can light the world with love and with salvation, but I allow my grievances to take priority over this awesome ability. Why?! Fear, of course! I fear letting go of my grievances. Who would I be without my grievances? Would I still be Barbara? Who is Barbara anyway? Do I want to be her? Maybe I would do well to finally put her aside.

I guess the personality known as Barbara is all right — she tries, but she is so entrenched in her grievances, grievances from over 60 years ago to grievances from this morning. It is as though what I and the world have come to know and call Barbara is a woman who formed most her identity on being a victim. I don’t think I meant her to become identified this way, but that was the model I followed when forming her identity and writing her script. A model based on her mother, aunts, and other women of her era. Mostly, it was an identity that (I thought) would get her attention.

When looking at Barbara’s life, many in this world would say: “Yes, she did have some very real tragedies, some huge grievances with others and, perhaps, even with God.” But those who are looking from a higher source would just smile on Barbara, love her, and wait for the time she puts down the blanket of grievances she wraps herself in daily. The blanket is old, it is worn, and it is useless.

I invented the world I see. I wrote the script. I call it “Barbara’s World.” It is a soap opera filled with birth, death, marriage, divorce, times of plenty, and times of scarcity. I have a new episode everyday and I watch rerun after rerun of my favorite episodes. I have been obsessed with this program, but it is over. The program and all re-runs have been cancelled. The sponsors have lost interest as it no longer pays off.  A new show is being put in “Barbara’s World” time slot. It is a reality show called “The One Self.”

Let me not judge Barbara’s drama or be sad to see it end. Let me just appreciate it for what it was and go Home.
