I Seek A Future Different from the Past

With ACIM Workbook Lesson 314, it is really important to pause after each sentence: From new perception of the world there comes a future very different from the past. (1)

The willingness to watch the thought process and take everything that is not loving to the Holy Spirit to be changed, brings about transformation. But this work needs to be done!

The future now is recognized as but extension of the present. (2)

How strong is that belief that my past story influences the rest of my life! I was born in Germany in 1944, therefore I often claim that being born at the end of the war had such an influence and I am stuck with this influence. 

Past mistakes can cast no shadows on it, so that fear has lost its idols and its images, and being formless, it has no effects. (3) 

This is all about true forgiveness or releasing the past. Jesus/Jeshua is one of the great teachers of this process. In ACIM, The Way of Mastery, and the Aramaic Beatitudes he leads the student through many processes to help him/her let go of all that baggage.

Death will not claim the future now, for life is now its goal, and all the needed means are happily provided. (4)

Doesn’t this make you gasp? ‘Death will not claim the future now!’ Living in a retirement village with many very old people around me, death is at the doorsteps! But already in the New Testament Jesus is saying that he has come to give life eternal. He is taking our gaze away from the body/mind personality we still identify so strongly with, to our spiritual eternal being.

“Who can grieve or suffer when the present has been freed, extending its security and peace into a quiet future filled with joy?” (5)

“Father, we were mistaken in the past and choose to use the present to be free. Now do we leave the future in Your Hands, leaving behind our past mistakes, and sure that You will keep Your present promises, and guide the future in their holy light.” (2:1-2)  AMEN 

P.S. Let us remember that we are not the maker and the doer, God IS! By knowing of our unbreakable connection with the divine, we can let go of past mistaken beliefs which run our present miseries and be free.
