XI. The Test of Truth, P 13
13 Only those who recognize they cannot know unless the effects of understanding are with them, can really learn at all. For this it must be peace they want, and nothing else. Whenever you think you know, peace will depart from you, because you have abandoned the Teacher of peace. Whenever you fully realize that you know not, peace will return, for you will have invited Him to do so by abandoning the ego on behalf of Him. Call not upon the ego for anything; it is only this that you need do. The Holy Spirit will, of Himself, fill every mind that so makes room for Him.

Journal
This morning I experienced the effects of believing I know and the effects of not knowing all in the same meditation. This was helpful because it helped me to understand what Jesus is telling us here. Here is how it came about. I made a suggestion to someone and later began to doubt my helpfulness. I remembered having this little nudge to silence and ignoring it.

That was the moment that I listened to ego telling me I knew something. Since that happened, I have been feeling some anxiety about it. And this morning when I sat down for my meditation, I began to cry and I knew something was going to come up for me to look at with Holy Spirit. As I cried, I waited to see what it would be and it was this incident of acting on my own rather than following direction.

I let the emotion play out and then I said, “Here I am, Lord.” I was ready to surrender to the “I don’t know.” How could I know what was best for anyone? Yes, I could have asked before I spoke, and the sane part of the mind was trying to nudge me in that direction but I thought I knew. I lost my peace and it was the loss of peace that alerted me that a correction was needed. I had already done this thing, but not all was lost.

I asked the Holy Spirit to undo what I had done. I stopped feeling guilty because I knew the Holy Spirit would undo all the consequences of my wrong decision if I would let Him. And I wanted Him to do so. It is the most amazing thing that the effects of my error will be undone for me. I could not possibly do that without the Holy Spirit. Not that I don’t hear the ego suggesting that I can somehow fix this, but I am sane again and so I am ignoring the ego. I pray that I never call on the ego for anything again.

XI. The Test of Truth, P 12
12 Those who remember always that they know nothing, and who have become willing to learn everything, will learn it. But whenever they trust themselves, they will not learn. They have destroyed their motivation for learning by thinking they already know. Think not you understand anything until you pass the test of perfect peace, for peace and understanding go together and never can be found alone. Each brings the other with it, for it is the law of God they be not separate. They are cause and effect, each to the other, so where one is absent the other cannot be.

Journal
Jesus says that we can’t be enlightened about something if we think we already understand it. It is like the cup that is filled. If you try to add more, it just spills over the top. Anyway, who is interested in learning if they think they already know? So, how do I know that I actually understand? Jesus says the test is perfect peace.

Peace and understanding go together. Understanding brings peace and peace brings understanding. I want to know how this works in my life and so I asked Holy Spirit for an example. This is what He gave me.
When I first started studying the Rules of Decision, I tried to use them to solve my problems. At first, I would only get partial success and so my peace was not perfect. This was because my understanding of the rules was not perfect. If I had been unwilling to accept that I did not fully understand this process, then I would have just given up.

Because the only thing I know for sure is that I don’t really know anything, I was willing to be taught. I would ask for clarity and then I would practice. When I still had not received perfect peace, I would go back over them asking for more clarity. I did this until doing the rules for decision with a problem, brought me to perfect peace.

XI. The Test of Truth, P 11
11 God’s Son will always be indivisible. As we are held as one in God, so do we learn as one in Him. God’s Teacher is as like to His Creator as is His Son, and through His Teacher does God proclaim His Oneness and His Son’s. Listen in silence, and do not raise your voice against Him. For He teaches the miracle of oneness, and before His lesson division disappears. Teach like Him here, and you will remember that you have always created like your Father. The miracle of creation has never ceased, having the holy stamp of immortality upon it. This is the Will of God for all creation, and all creation joins in willing this.

Journal
We are always indivisible, always one with each other. I like the next part of that message. “We learn as one in Him”. As I learn, so do you. As you learn, so do I. When I think of us a pure Thought in the Mind of God, this is easy to understand, though of course, as pure Thought in the Mind of God, there is nothing to learn because all is known. But thinking of myself as Thought rather than flesh and bone, I can envision oneness and I can grasp the idea that we learn as one.

Not only are we all one with each other, we are one with God and this is what the Holy Spirit is teaching us. Here is another interesting sentence. “Listen in silence, and do not raise your voice against Him.” And so I quiet my mind from time to time during the day, letting Him teach me. And when I am confused, I wait in silence for clarification. But do I ever raise my voice against His?

I think of Rules for Decision. Something happens and I react to it. How do I know how to react? Very quickly, so quickly I am able to hide it from myself, I ask either Holy Spirit or ego what the situation means. Sometimes, I choose to hear the ego and this is when I raise “my” voice against His.

When this happens, I am acting from the ego mind and the voice I raise is my ego voice. If I am more sane than insane in the moment, I will quickly notice what happened and choose again and sanity is quickly restored. Sometimes, though, I believe what I hear from ego and let insanity run amuck for awhile, and then I have to take more steps to quiet the ego voice.

If I choose to listen to the Holy Spirit, He will teach me the miracle of oneness. It will always be some form of love, and this lesson learned will be what I teach. I will be a miracle worker here, and being a miracle worker, I will remember that I am a creator, always have been and still am that. We are creators with and like our Father. It is His Will and our will as well.

XI. The Test of Truth, P 10
10 He Who has freed you from the past would teach you are free of it. He would but have you accept His accomplishments as yours, because He did them for you. And because He did, they are yours. He has made you free of what you made. You can deny Him, but you cannot call on Him in vain. He always gives His gifts in place of yours. He would establish His bright teaching so firmly in your mind, that no dark lesson of guilt can abide in what He has established as holy by His Presence. Thank God that He is there and works through you. And all His works are yours. He offers you a miracle with every one you let Him do through you.

Journal
We are aware of only the past because that is all that is happening here, the past being replayed so that we can experience it again and make new choices. The new choice we can make is to accept the Holy Spirit’s accomplishments as our own. He has freed us from the past, and to know that freedom we only have to accept it.

Last night I had trouble sleeping. I had a choice. I could lay there tossing and turning and wishing I could sleep, or I could ask the Holy Spirit for His gift. I didn’t know what that gift would be. Would I fall asleep or would it be a different gift? As it turned out, it was a different gift. He showed me how to see the situation differently.

I got up and did work until I was sleepy and I spared barely a moment worrying about how I should be sleeping and what that would mean to me the next day. I did go to sleep eventually and I woke up just fine, and feel good. The Holy Spirit was teaching me to turn to Him in all things. He was also teaching me that the body is not independent of my thoughts. It is not creative and cannot be tired without my belief that it can. These were lessons worth staying up for.

No matter what seems to be happening in my life, if I am not in perfect peace, there is another way to see it. The Holy Spirit is teaching me to always ask for that vision. My growing willingness to accept His gifts in every circumstance is preparing my mind to be a conduit of miracles for everyone. This is helping the entire Sonship to awaken. He is in me and works through me, and I am thankful for that.

“He would establish His bright teaching so firmly in your mind, that no dark lesson of guilt can abide in what He has established as holy by His Presence.” Yes, God! Thank you, God!

XI. The Test of Truth, P 9
9 Do you think that what the Holy Spirit would have you give, He would withhold from you? You have no problems that He cannot solve by offering you a miracle. Miracles are for you. And every fear or pain or trial you have has been undone. He has brought all of them to light, having accepted them instead of you, and recognized they never were. There are no dark lessons He has not already lightened for you. The lessons you would teach yourself He has corrected already. They do not exist in His Mind at all. For the past binds Him not, and therefore binds not you. He does not see time as you do. And each miracle He offers you corrects your use of time, and makes it His.

Journal
This paragraph brought tears to my eyes. All my problems have been solved. I know. There is a lesson that talks about that, and yes, I have done the lesson (Lesson 80). But somehow, this morning I just get it. This is the function God gave the Holy Spirit. He has already solved all problems for us. Now we only need to accept His solution, which is a miracle. “Miracles are for you”, Jesus says. Thank you, God.

He goes on to say that every fear or pain or trial we have ever had has been undone. He did this by recognizing that they never were. All my dark lessons have been brought to the light. This made me stop and think about some of them. My most stubborn expression of fear is my fear of heights. I often wonder if I will ever be able to give up that fear. And yet, it has already been done. The Holy Spirit did it for me. I exist without that fear. When will I accept His gift? When will I accept the self that exists without the fear of heights? I don’t know. When I do, I suppose.

Jesus tells us this about the Holy Spirit. He says that our errors do not exist in His Mind at all, which means that they do not exist in my mind. Right now, right in this moment, I exist in a state of complete innocence. I can accept that self if I want to. The past does not bind the Holy Spirit. He knows me without a past in which I seem to have sinned.

Because it does not bind Him, it does not bind me either. I can know myself as one who has never erred. I don’t have to wait for any of this. It is done. I have a hard time understanding how this could be because I see time differently than the Holy Spirit. It feels linear to me, and to Him, it doesn’t exist at all. Through the miracles, He offers me He is correcting my use of time. I am learning to use time for miracles and rather than to extend the illusion so that I can see that there is no time.
