Our Freedom and Joy Are in God Alone

The ego thinks freedom is independence from God. The ego thinks it means being in control and not under the influence of anyone else’s wishes or demands. The ego thinks it means being separate and distinct. Like Garfield, the cartoon character, the ego says, “I need my space.”

The ego treasures this independence and maintains it by doing everything it can to make separation appear real. Yet to have this independence, limitation must be accepted. If we identify with the ego, we are no longer free to extend Love without limit. We are no longer free to experience the joy of unity with All That Is. We are no longer free to know the certainty of timelessness and eternal Love. Can this limitation really be freedom?

When we accept our unity with God, when we accept our Self as God created It, we are free to experience all Love everywhere, eternally. We are free of all limitation. We can only experience this freedom when we accept our total dependence on God, Who defines What we are by creating us exactly as Himself.

The recognition of our dependence on God is the acceptance of our freedom to Love without limit, to experience His limitless joy, and to know His peace without interruption. This is our freedom. All our strength comes from God’s Love. There is no other strength. To know our dependence on God and accept it is to accept all power, all Love, all joy, all peace as our own. This is freedom. Receiving Holy Spirit’s Plan

A healed mind does not plan. It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to wisdom that is not its own. It waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it. It does not depend upon itself for anything except its adequacy to fulfill the plans assigned to it. It is secure in certainty that obstacles can not impede its progress to accomplishment of any goal that serves the greater plan established for the good of everyone. A key to following Holy Spirit’s plan and not our own, is to stop… relax… and listen…

We can tell how much our defenses are up by monitoring the amount of tension we are holding in our body. Tension is a sure sign that we are holding on to the defensiveness of the ego. The Course tells us that the ego becomes strong in strife. The ego mind maintains a sense of uneasiness by bringing up a constant stream of things that we need to protect and defend against.

We can rise above these ego thoughts by consistently inviting in the Holy Spirit’s inspiration… We pause… take a deep breath… and relax… We are receptive and open to receiving Holy Spirit’s peace… We follow in the way we are guided in full trust that Holy Spirit is right there in our mind, guiding us in a way that is helpful for everyone. Our gratitude is great that we have all the Help we need, without effort. And we give thanks.

Above All Else I Want to See Through the Eyes of Love

Above all else I want to see differently. The world I see holds my fearful self-image in place, and guarantees its continuance. While I see the world as I see it now, truth cannot enter my awareness. I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.56.3. See also ACIM Lesson 56 Insights.)

Today we focus on our willingness to see the real world that reflects the Love of God… We focus on opening to Love’s oneness instead of seeing through the eye’s of separation, the body’s eyes… We focus on remembering that we are the eternal Spirit of Love…

We are willing to use our inner vision to see past differences to the changeless beingness of Love that is eternally real everywhere. We are willing to remember that only Love is real. We are willing to receive the blessings of peace, joy and happiness that come with this remembering.

Nothing Real Can Be Threatened

I thank You, Father, knowing You will come to close each little gap that lies between the broken pieces of Your holy Son. Your Holiness, complete and perfect, lies in every one of them. And they are joined because what is in one is in them all. How holy is the smallest grain of sand, when it is recognized as being part of the completed picture of God’s Son! The forms the broken pieces seem to take mean nothing. For the whole is in each one. And every aspect of the Son of God is just the same as every other part. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.IV.9. Today we practice seeing past differences to the one Light and Love of God That is in everyone. Today we step back and let Inspired Vision show us the truth behind every illusion of separation. We open to the unity of the Christ Mind. Here we find peace and safety. Here we find the eternal truth that only Love is real. And for this remembering, we give thanks.

I thank you Father for closing the little gap in my mind that brought me illusions of separation. “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.” (T-Int.2:2-4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Having a Happy Day

I want today to be a happy day. This is the same as saying that I want this to be a day of accepting and extending Love, because happiness and joy are attributes of Love. We accept God’s gift of Love by extending His Love.

We cannot look to the ego for help with extending Love, because the ego is the denial of Love. But the Holy Spirit in our mind is ever present, ready to guide us in the way of Love, as we are willing.

Today is a day to practice opening our mind to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. As we accept His help, our doing in the world will extend God’s Love in forms that can be received. We need not worry how this is done. We need only focus our attention on following the loving lead of the Holy Spirit moment by moment. With this practice we will have a happy day.

We Still Our Minds and Listen for the Truth

We have found the way He chose for us, and made the choice to follow it as He would have us go. His Hand has held us up. His Thoughts have lit the darkness of our minds. His Love has called to us unceasingly since time began.

…we need only call to God, and all temptations disappear. Instead of words, we need but feel His Love. Instead of prayers, we need but call His Name. Instead of judging, we need but be still and let all things be healed. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.Int.8:2-5;10:2-5. See also ACIM Lesson 221 Insights.)

We let today be a day of quiet and of peace… We let ourselves be led to the Truth… We open to the Light of the Christ Mind and let ourselves be healed in the healing waters of peace…

Our mind is quiet now and we are ready to be lifted up, past the dreams of separation to the eternal holy instant which is ours forever…

We give our busy minds a rest… We let ourselves feel the gratitude… the happiness… the constant joy of our true Nature… All this comes as we still our minds and listen for the Truth.

Dedicating the Day to Love

Today I open my mind to become aware of Love’s ongoing gifts. Today I accept the truth of Love, which is present now and eternally. I let the Holy Spirit help me recognize my barriers to Love. I then allow the Holy Spirit to shine those barriers away. I would recognize the truth today. I would recognize that the truth of Love is true and nothing else is true.
