We Rest at Home in God

Your Home is in God. This is a fact not to be disputed or argued against, but to be accepted. Allow the Holy Spirit to gently guide you through the chaotic maze of your own mind, past the resistance of many lifetimes, beyond the fear that veils the Truth, to the memory of your Father that He may take the last step that returns you to your true Home forever. God has always been your Home; you rest in Him in deepest peace, undisturbed by idle dreams and passing fantasies. The constant noise of this world, the cries of pain that arise from the suffering ones, the class of arms and constant conflict; all this cannot reach you or diminish the peace and security you experience when you rest in God. Nothing can reach you there but what belongs to you in Truth, what is part of you forever. My brothers, you are not forsaken; you have not been left comfortless. Even in a world of dreams, you carry your Home with you always. Within you It waits for your recognition that It may shelter you from the battle that rages without. Please accept It now, turn within and find peace.” (From the Christ Book II, pp. 209-210)

As we daily practice turning within and finding peace, we strengthen our awareness of the Truth… We strengthen our awareness that in reality we are at Home in God… We are safe in the one Mind of God… This safety in God includes everyone… As we return to the awareness that we are at Home in God, we also realize everyone is there with us… We don’t go Home alone…

We may dream dreams of doom and disaster, guilt and death, but all the while we remain Home in God. No one is left outside God’s holy Home. We practice this today as we continue to go within and connect with the Truth that lies within our mind. We may waiver, but the strength of God lies within us. We accept God’s strength and extend it to the world. All this comes as we quiet our mind and rest at Home in God.

Becoming Spiritually Mature

As the teacher of God advances in his training, he learns one lesson with increasing thoroughness. He does not make his own decisions; he asks his Teacher for His answer, and it is this he follows as his guide for action. This becomes easier and easier, as the teacher of God learns to give up his own judgment. The giving up of judgment, the obvious prerequisite for hearing God’s Voice, is usually a fairly slow process, not because it is difficult, but because it is apt to be perceived as personally insulting. The world’s training is directed toward achieving a goal in direct opposition to that of our curriculum. The world trains for reliance on one’s judgment as the criterion for maturity and strength. Our curriculum trains for the relinquishment of judgment as the necessary condition of salvation. (A Course in Miracles, M-9.2)

The ego can be likened to the teenager who declares, “I want to make my own decisions.” It is the rejection of God’s Will and the insistence that it knows what will make us happy. What we believe will make us happy is what we believe is our salvation. Yet God’s Will for us is perfect happiness and the choice to deny God’s Will is a choice against happiness. It is a choice against salvation.

It is time to grow up. It is time to relinquish our childish insistence on being separate from the Source of true happiness just so we can say we made our own independent decisions. Choosing against the happiness already given us by our Creator guarantees depression, loneliness and a sense of being unloved; this is what we get each time we judge.

We become spiritually mature by relinquishing making judgments on our own and letting Holy Spirit judge on our behalf in all things. We need His help to distinguish between what will make us truly happy and what will leave us with nothing but depression, guilt and fear.

Today we would make no judgments on our own. We are willing to let God’s Voice speak to us through the day.

Learning to Recognize Our True Identity

The world can give no gifts of any value to a mind that has received what God has given as its own. God wills salvation be received today, and that the intricacies of your dreams no longer hide their nothingness from you.

Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace. Forgiveness is the means by which it comes to take the place of hell. In quietness it rises up to greet your open eyes, and fill your heart with deep tranquility as ancient truths, forever newly born, arise in your awareness. What you will remember then can never be described. Yet your forgiveness offers it to you. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 122, W-pI.122.7:5-8:5. See also ACIM Lesson 122 Insights.)

When we believe the body is our identity, loss of the body seems to be the end of our existence. Of course we would defend this identity at all costs, for we have given it the ultimate value. Yet the body is a false image and it does not really exist at all. To defend a lie and an image that does not exist is insane. Forgiveness is how we let go of this insanity.

We will not willingly give up the identity we believe is what we are until we learn to recognize the truth of What we are and accept It for ourselves. The Holy Spirit is ever present in our minds, always offering us the lessons that will teach us this important lesson. We welcome this lesson with the practice of asking the Holy Spirit’s help to reinterpret all our perceptions in the world.

As we change our focus from the ego as our guide to the Holy Spirit as our Guide, we learn to recognize what is true and freely overlook the false images. Once recognized for the nothingness they are, we no longer need to defend these false images. In their place we welcome God’s gift of Love and the peace and joy that come with It.

Walking in Gratitude

We thank our Father for one thing alone; that we are separate from no living thing, and therefore one with Him.

Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. What more remains as obstacles to peace? The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as “sins.” When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.”

Our gratitude will pave the way to Him, and shorten our learning time by more than you could ever dream of. Gratitude goes hand in hand with love, and where one is the other must be found. For gratitude is but an aspect of the Love which is the Source of all creation. God gives thanks to you, His Son, for being what you are; His Own completion and the Source of love, along with Him. Your gratitude to Him is one with His to you. For love can walk no road except the way of gratitude, and thus we go who walk the way to God. Each time we truly forgive, Love rushes in to fill the space left clear of judgment and comparison. And Love brings gratitude with it. The complete release that total forgiveness brings seems to take time because we have covered the reality of Love with layer upon layer of judgments and comparisons.

As we practice letting go of these judgments and comparisons, the layers fall away. Long hidden layers rise to the surface, offering us another opportunity to forgive. Each time we do, Love grows stronger in our awareness. Gratitude grows and we feel more at peace. This is how we walk with gratitude in the way of Love.

Our Resurrection in Christ

Would you join in the resurrection or the crucifixion? Would you condemn your brothers or free them? Would you transcend your prison and ascend to the Father?

I am leading you to a new kind of experience that you will become less and less willing to deny. Learning of Christ is easy, for to perceive with Him involves no strain at all. His perceptions are your natural awareness, and it is only the distortions you introduce that tire you. Let the Christ in you interpret for you, and do not try to limit what you see by narrow little beliefs that are unworthy of God’s Son. For until Christ comes into His Own, the Son of God will see himself as Fatherless.

I am your resurrection and your life. You live in me because you live in God. And everyone lives in you, as you live in everyone. Can you, then, perceive unworthiness in a brother and not perceive it in yourself? And can you perceive it in yourself and not perceive it in God? Believe in the resurrection because it has been accomplished, and it has been accomplished in you.

God’s Son is saved. Bring only this awareness to the Sonship, and you will have a part in the redemption as valuable as mine. For your part must be like mine if you learn it of me. If you believe that yours is limited, you are limiting mine. There is no order of difficulty in miracles because all of God’s Sons are of equal value, and their equality is their oneness. Our resurrection comes with the willingness to be taught that we are not the image that we have made of ourselves in a dream of separation. As we are willing to admit that we are wrong about what we believe we are, we welcome the Holy Spirit’s loving lessons that teach us we are Love’s extension, God’s Son. We are, always have been and always will be Love and nothing else. This forgiveness brings us awareness of our resurrection in Christ.

We Have a Mighty Helper

What is the ego? But a dream of what you really are. A thought you are apart from your Creator and a wish to be what He created not. It is a thing of madness, not reality at all.

The ego’s opposite in every way,—in origin, effect and consequence—we call a miracle. And here we find all that is not the ego in this world.

What is a miracle? A dream as well. But look at all the aspects of this dream and you will never question any more. Look at the kindly world you see extend before you as you walk in gentleness. Look at the helpers all along the way you travel, happy in the certainty of Heaven and the surety of peace. And look an instant, too, on what you left behind at last and finally passed by.

The miracle forgives; the ego damns.… Problem and answer lie together here, and having met at last the choice is clear. Who chooses hell when it is recognized? And who would not go on a little while when it is given him to understand the way is short and Heaven is his goal? (A Course in Miracles, C-2.1:4-7;5:1-2;7:1-6;10:1,4-6)

Condemnation hides the face of Christ, the recognition of innocence, from our awareness. Judgment, guilt, fear, sadness, lack of Love draw a veil across the real world of Love, making It unknown to us. We have been given the means to part the veil and move past it into the Light and Love that is our true Home.

We have a mighty Helper Whose purpose is to help us forgive — overlook the illusions of the world — so that we may see the face of Christ, the innocence, in every brother and ourselves. Each time we choose to accept this Help, we take another step on our journey of return to Heaven. This is our practice today.

Opening to God’s Joy and Peace

You are the dreamer of the world of dreams. No other cause it has, nor ever will. Nothing more fearful than an idle dream has terrified God’s Son, and made him think that he has lost his innocence, denied his Father, and made war upon himself. So fearful is the dream, so seeming real, he could not waken to reality without the sweat of terror and a scream of mortal fear, unless a gentler dream preceded his awaking, and allowed his calmer mind to welcome, not to fear, the Voice that calls with love to waken him; a gentler dream, in which his suffering was healed and where his brother was his friend. God willed he waken gently and with joy, and gave him means to waken without fear.

Accept the dream He gave instead of yours. It is not difficult to change a dream when once the dreamer has been recognized. Rest in the Holy Spirit, and allow His gentle dreams to take the place of those you dreamed in terror and in fear of death. He brings forgiving dreams, in which the choice is not who is the murderer and who shall be the victim. In the dreams He brings there is no murder and there is no death. The dream of guilt is fading from your sight, although your eyes are closed. A smile has come to lighten up your sleeping face. The sleep is peaceful now, for these are happy dreams. God has given us the means to release ourselves from the experience of being a victim of a world of forces outside ourselves that can make us happy or sad, peaceful or fearful. This precious gift is the Holy Spirit in our mind, ever present and ready to show us a way to see the world differently. The Holy Spirit knows that only Love is real. Any other perception is just the result of believing in a false world of separation that could never be true.

We can open ourselves to the freedom of God’s Love by being willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s kind and gentle lessons that show us that the fearful and shameful things we see through the body’s eyes are only feverish dreams. The Holy Spirit will show us the Love beyond the fear, the innocence beyond the guilt. We need only be willing to take all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to accept His help to see them differently. What He will show us will bring joy to our hearts and peace to our troubled minds. It’s worth the practice.
