The Truth of Eternal Love Is in Us

You whose mind is darkened by doubt and guilt, remember this: God gave the Holy Spirit to you, and gave Him the mission to remove all doubt and every trace of guilt that His dear Son has laid upon himself. It is impossible that this mission fail. Nothing can prevent what God would have accomplished from accomplishment. Whatever your reactions to the Holy Spirit’s Voice may be, whatever voice you choose to listen to, whatever strange thoughts may occur to you, God’s Will is done. You will find the peace in which He has established you, because He does not change His Mind. He is invariable as the peace in which you dwell, and of which the Holy Spirit reminds you.

Learn that even the darkest nightmare that disturbs the mind of God’s sleeping Son holds no power over him. He will learn the lesson of awaking. God watches over him and light surrounds him.

Can God’s Son lose himself in dreams, when God has placed within him the glad Call to waken and be glad? He cannot separate himself from what is in him. His sleep will not withstand the Call to wake. The mission of redemption will be fulfilled as surely as the creation will remain unchanged throughout eternity. You do not have to know that Heaven is yours to make it so. It is so. Yet to know it, the Will of God must be accepted as your will.

The Holy Spirit will undo for you everything you have learned that teaches that what is not true must be reconciled with truth. (A Course in Miracles, T-13.XI.5;9:5-11:1. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The ego is at war with God because it stands for everything that is opposite to God. Yet only the Love of God is real so nothing opposite to God exists. God does not do battle with what does not exist.

When we identify with the ego, we believe God is our enemy and we are afraid of His Will. We are afraid of Love, peace and happiness. This makes no sense because the ego makes no sense, being insane. Though we seem to be lost in the ego, we can never lose our connection with our Source. The truth of Heaven and eternal Love is in us, no matter how real images of destruction and death appear to be. The truth of What we are cannot be changed, though it can be hidden by illusionary images of separation.

There is a way out of this self-made hell. We need to choose to listen to a voice other than the ego — the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will patiently and lovingly teach us that the ego’s world is false and only Love is true. We need only be willing to bring all our thoughts to the Holy Spirit for His reinterpretation. This is how we will learn to distinguish the reality of Love from the ego thought system of specialness and separation. Each time we accept the Holy Spirit’s kind lessons, we move forward on our journey of awakening to the certainty of Heaven. This is a great day to practice!

God’s Strength Is Ours

Unless I look upon what is not there, my present happiness is all I see. Eyes that begin to open see at last. And I would have Christ’s vision come to me this very day. What I perceive without God’s Own Correction for the sight I made is frightening and painful to behold. Yet I would not allow my mind to be deceived by the belief the dream I made is real an instant longer. This the day I seek my present happiness, and look on nothing else except the thing I seek.

With this resolve I come to You, and ask Your strength to hold me up today, while I but seek to do Your Will. You cannot fail to hear me, Father. What I ask have You already given me. The world we see as a body seems so real. There are so many things that need to be fixed to make us safe. We can’t even agree with each other about what will fix the problems. Yet we are told that for every problem, when we forgive the problem will disappear.  It seems a daunting task to accomplish this forgiveness.

We have the strength of God within us to support us in accomplishing forgiveness. Forgiveness is our only meaningful purpose in this world. Forgiveness is the way out of the dream of fear and guilt. It is the path of return to the changeless Love of God.

We have Help to forgive, but we must ask for It. Our asking expresses our willingness to be helped. Our belief in the reality of separation is a defense against the Love of God. When we ask and are willing to accept the strength of God to help us forgive, we turn our attention to the means that will set us free. We are lowering our defense against Love. We want to remember the Love and peace and joy of our true Self.

Today we ask the strength of God in us to help us see with Christ’s vision and forgive our barriers to Love’s presence.

Healing Through Accepting Love’s Vision

Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity to heal the Son of God. And he is healed because you offered faith [in oneness] to him, giving him to the Holy Spirit and releasing him from every demand your ego would make of him. Thus do you see him free, and in this vision does the Holy Spirit share. And since He shares [His vision] He has given it, and so He heals through you. It is this joining Him in a united purpose that makes this purpose real, because you make it whole. And this is healing. The body is healed because you came without [the body], and joined the Mind in which all healing rests.

The body cannot heal, because it cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing. Its health or sickness depends entirely on how the mind perceives [the body], and the purpose that the mind would use it for. It is obvious that a segment of the mind can see itself as separated from the Universal Purpose. When this occurs the body becomes [the separated mind’s] weapon, used against this Purpose, to demonstrate the “fact” that separation has occurred. The body thus becomes the instrument of illusion, acting accordingly; seeing what is not there, hearing what truth has never said and behaving insanely, being imprisoned by insanity. Our true Self has one Purpose — to extend the oneness of Love and nothing else. Our true Self, the Holy Spirit, sees only the oneness of Love everywhere. When we see with the vision of Love, the appearance of bodies is overlooked because only the reality of Love is seen. We heal by accepting Love’s vision of oneness.

When we identify with the body and its perceptions, we identify with separation as our reality. The body is simply an instrument of the ego used for the purpose of making separation seem real. To heal, we must disconnect our identification with a body and join with the oneness of our true Self. This is true healing.

As we accept Love’s vision and see the Love in our brothers, our minds are healed. This acceptance of our oneness must be total, with no reservations. We can keep no illusions of separation in the mind alongside truth. Illusions deny truth.

Today we would welcome healing in our minds by choosing to accept Love’s vision in place of perceptions through the body. This is how we find peace in a dream of chaos, for Love overlooks illusions.

Following Our Father’s Lead to Safety

Steady our feet, our Father. Let our doubts be quiet and our holy minds be still, and speak to us. We have no words to give to You. We would but listen to Your Word, and make it ours. Lead our practicing as does a father lead a little child along a way he does not understand. Yet does he follow, sure that he is safe because his father leads the way for him.

So do we bring our practicing to You. And if we stumble, You will raise us up. If we forget the way, we count upon Your sure remembering. We wander off, but You will not forget to call us back. Quicken our footsteps now, that we may walk more certainly and quickly unto You. And we accept the Word You offer us to unify our practicing, as we review the thoughts that You have given us.

God is but Love, and therefore so am I. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 171, W-pI.V.2-4;4:3. See also ACIM Lesson 171 Insights.)

The ego is an attempt to usurp the power of God and claim It as its own. It needs to be right that separation is real and the oneness of our Creator is false. The last thing it wants to do is to follow the lead of our Father, because that would mean the ego is false and the oneness of our Creator is true.

We don’t really want to feel guilty. We don’t really want to feel alone and separate, vulnerable to outside sources that can annihilate us. We want the peace of God. We want to remember our true Self. We want to remember that we are Love and nothing else, just like our Father.

Today we welcome the strength of God to support us on our journey of awakening to the one Self our Father created. We are willing to follow our Father’s lead to our Home in the perfect safety of changeless Love.

Awakening to Love

If you but knew the glorious goal that lies beyond forgiveness, you would not keep hold on any thought, however light the touch of evil on it may appear to be. For you would understand how great the cost of holding anything God did not give in minds that can direct the hand to bless, and lead God’s Son unto his Father’s house.

A dream is given you in which [your brother] is your savior, not your enemy in hate. A dream is given you in which you have forgiven him for all his dreams of death [separation]; a dream of hope you share with him, instead of dreaming evil separate dreams of hate. Why does it seem so hard to share this dream? Because unless the Holy Spirit gives the dream its function, it was made for hate, and will continue in death’s services.

…seek not the eternal in this world. Forgiving dreams are means to step aside from dreaming of a world outside yourself. And leading finally beyond all dreams, unto the peace of everlasting life. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.V.6:1-2;7:1-4;8:4-6. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Judgment maintains the dream of guilt and death. Forgiveness removes the veil that hides the eternal presence of Love everywhere. Love does not forgive because it does not condemn. But in the dream of judgment, forgiveness is a happy dream that leads us out of the hell of belief in separation. This forgiveness cannot be done on our own while we believe are separate from our brothers. We need the help of the Holy Spirit in our minds to help us see past the forms of separation to the Love that unifies us as God’s one Son.

Today we choose the happy dream of forgiveness by asking the Holy Spirit to help us see the Love beyond the images of the world. We acknowledge that we need His help and we are grateful that His help is always available. As we accept this Help our experience of the world is transformed. Our brothers become our saviors, reflecting back to us the Love we share. Today we take another step on our journey of awakening to Love.

Following Holy Spirit’s Direction

To do anything involves the body. And if you recognize you need do nothing, you have withdrawn the body’s value from your mind. Here is the quick and open door through which you slip past centuries of effort, and escape from time. This is the way in which sin [separation] loses all attraction right now. For here [in recognizing you need do nothing] is time denied, and past and future gone. Who needs do nothing has no need for time. To do nothing is to rest, and make a place within you where the activity of the body ceases to demand attention. Into this place the Holy Spirit comes, and there abides. He will remain when you forget, and the body’s activities return to occupy your conscious mind.

Yet there will always be this place of rest to which you can return. And you will be more aware of this quiet center of the storm than all its raging activity. This quiet center, in which you do nothing, will remain with you, giving you rest in the midst of every busy doing on which you are sent. For from this center will you be directed how to use the body sinlessly. It is this center, from which the body is absent, that will keep it so in your awareness of it.” (A Course in Miracles, T-18.VII.7-8. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

There is a center of peace within us all that we can go to for refuge from the busyness of the world. Peace is perfect calmness, with no activity, nothing to do but be what we were created to be. This peace is always accessible to us because it is the nature of our true Self. To reach this state we must be willing, at least for an instant, to set aside the activity and seeming needs of the body.

When we connect with the quiet center of peace within, the demands of the body are temporarily set aside. From this place of peace we will be directed by the Holy Spirit in how to use the body to move toward recognition of our oneness instead of to reinforce guilt and separation. There is doing needed in the world to bring the Holy Spirit’s message of release from the limitations of the ego.

This direction for our doing in the world must come from the Holy Spirit in this center of peace. As we follow the Holy Spirit’s direction, we use the body sinlessly. It becomes an instrument of healing under His direction. Each time we step back and open to the center of peace within, we return to doing in the world with a new perspective. The more we practice this, the easier it is to not be taken in by the ego’s projections of fear and guilt. We become instruments of peace instead of conflict. Under Holy Spirit’s direction we become God’s messengers in the world.

Learning to Depend on Holy Spirit’s Guidance

When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way, say to yourself:

I do not know what anything, including this, means. And so I do not know how to respond to it. And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now.

By this refusal to attempt to teach yourself what you do not know, the Guide Whom God has given you will speak to you. He will take His rightful place in your awareness the instant you abandon it, and offer it to Him.

It is only because you think that you can run some little part, or deal with certain aspects of your life alone, that the guidance of the Holy Spirit is limited. Thus would you make Him undependable, and use this fancied undependability as an excuse for keeping certain dark lessons from Him. And by so limiting the guidance that you would accept, you are unable to depend on miracles to answer all your problems for you.

There are no dark lessons [the Holy Spirit] has not already lightened for you. The lessons you would teach yourself He has corrected already. They do not exist in His Mind at all. For the past binds Him not, and therefore binds not you. He does not see time as you do. And each miracle He offers you corrects your use of time, and makes it His. Our true Self is one with God, the Source of Light. The ego is the denial of our unity with God and therefore the denial of Light. When we choose to identify with the ego, we choose darkness. Thus the body and what we believe we experience through the body are just images made up to be “seen” in darkness. Nothing is really there.

Because we made up these images, we believe they are there. That belief makes correction of our errors on our own impossible. We need the Light of our true Self to shine away the images seen in darkness. The Holy Spirit holds that Light for us. We can turn to it in every moment by acknowledging that we do not know what anything means.  We do not know how to resolve any problem on our own.

Our willingness to acknowledge this welcomes the Holy Spirit’s Light into our minds. It is only our unwillingness to give Him everything that makes the Holy Spirit’s guidance seem undependable. The solution to our uncertainty is to be willing to let the Holy Spirit resolve all our seeming problems. His Light will bring us perfect peace.
