Count Your Blessings, Instead of Your Burdens

You cannot walk the world apart from God, because you could not be without Him. He is what your life is. Where you are He is. There is one life. That life you share with Him. Nothing can be apart from Him and live.

This is the way salvation works. As you step back, the light in you steps forward and encompasses the world.… In lightness and in laughter is sin [separation/guilt] gone, because its quaint absurdity is seen. It is a foolish thought, a silly dream, not frightening, ridiculous perhaps, but who would waste an instant in approach to God Himself for such a senseless whim? God has given us all of Himself — all His Love, all His peace, all His joy. How great is that! There can be no greater blessing.

In the world of separation, God’s blessing is so obscured by the chaos and unreliability of the ego thought system that we are unaware of the blessings we already have. Yet if we look for the blessings, there are signs even in the world that show the blessings we are already given. A store clerk helps us find what we need. A passer by smiles. We receive inspiration that solves a perceived problem out of the blue.

As we acknowledge the blessings that come our way through the day with gratitude, our attention is withdrawn from perceived problems. We stop reinforcing the sense of lack that makes separation seem real, and we strengthen our recognition that we have blessings all the time. These blessings remind us that we have indeed been given all of God’s blessing. Our sense of peace increases. We are happier and more kind. Life shifts from being a burden to an opportunity to bless and be blessed throughout the day.

Letting the Veil of Illusion Be Lifted

Those who would let illusions be lifted from their minds are this world’s saviors, walking the world with their Redeemer, and carrying His message of hope and freedom and release from suffering to everyone who needs a miracle to save him.

How easy is it to offer this miracle to everyone! No one who has received it for himself could find it difficult. For by receiving it, he learned it was not given him alone. Such is the function of a holy relationship; to receive together and give as you received. Standing before the veil, it still seems difficult. But hold out your hand, joined with your brother’s, and touch this heavy-seeming block, and you will learn how easily your fingers slip through its nothingness. It is no solid wall. And only an illusion stands between you and your brother, and the holy Self you share together. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.IV.6:5-7:8. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The Holy Spirit is teaching us that we share one holy Self. Today we practice letting the Holy Spirit lift us above the battleground of separate identities. With Holy Spirit we see past images of separate bodies to the one Love that we share eternally. We are filled with gratitude, peace and joy as we consistently let illusions be lifted from our mind. We happily join with every brother and see our oneness. We see that we are one Light and that there is no distance between us. This is how we spend our day.

Bringing Our Brother’s Home with Us

While you are here, you must continue to help the brothers who need you as much as you can. All that you give to them, you will also receive. Heaven is for all; you do not enter Its gates alone. Everyone goes with you; that is what Heaven is: A state of Unity absolute in which all are included. To recognize your brother as yourself is the condition that leads back to the Kingdom. When this realization becomes well established in your mind, you will know your Father again and Love will take you Home. (From the Christ Mind Book II, p.121)

We are coming to realize that everyone is in God and of God. We are practicing daily to use our inner vision to see past form to the Christ Mind in every brother. This is how we help ourselves and our brothers. The Holy Spirit will take us to truth as we are willing to want the truth and consistently be willing to be open to receiving the truth.

In truth the Light of God is all there is to see. The happiness of God is all there is to feel. The Love of God is all there is to know. We practice this today.

How to Be Free from Fear

Father, there is a vision which beholds all things as sinless, so that fear has gone, and where it was is love invited in. And love will come wherever it is asked. This vision is Your gift. The eyes of Christ look on a world forgiven. In His sight are all its sins forgiven, for He sees no sin in anything He looks upon. Now let His true perception come to me, that I may waken from the dream of sin and look within upon my sinlessness, which You have kept completely undefiled upon the altar to Your holy Son, the Self with which I would identify. In every moment we choose between seeing with the vision of Christ, which shows us the reality of Love or seeing with the eyes of the ego, which show us cause for fear. While we identify with the body as our identity, we automatically see cause for fear.

To be free of fear, we must be vigilant to turn over all our thoughts and perceptions to the Holy Spirit and receive His vision in exchange. He will show us the Love beyond the fear, the unity beyond the dream filled with images of separation. This vigilance and willingness to receive a new vision will lead us to the perfect happiness that is God’s Will for us.

We Have All the Help We Need

Steady our feet, our Father. Let our doubts be quiet and our holy minds be still, and speak to us. We have no words to give to You. We would but listen to Your Word, and make it ours. Lead our practicing as does a father lead a little child along a way he does not understand. Yet does he follow, sure that he is safe because his father leads the way for him.

So do we bring our practicing to You. And if we stumble, You will raise us up. If we forget the way, we count upon Your sure remembering. We wander off, but You will not forget to call us back. Quicken our footsteps now, that we may walk more certainly and quickly unto You. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 171, W-pI.V.In.2:1-3:5. See also ACIM Lesson 171 Insights.)

We can always count on God’s Help through His Voice in our minds. It’s always there, ready to show us the way out of the self-made hell of the dream of separation. We access this Help by stepping back from the perceptions of the moment.

It can be as simple as taking a breath and relaxing as we let it go. With practice, we can learn to consistently connect with the peace of God within. God’s Voice speaks to us in peace. We receive His inspiration through thoughts in our minds, feelings and images that help us recognize the truth beyond illusions.

Today we practice stepping back and welcoming God’s Help to return to peace.

All That I See Is in My Mind

Your mind is not in your body, your body is in your mind as is everything you see and experience. The body you see is the projected imagery of your mind, nothing more. [The world] does not exist independent of your mind; it cannot, for it is your invention. Today we will try to have the experience of the non-separateness of all things. We will try to take an important step that will begin to show us the Unity that is our Mind and Being. (From the Christ Mind Book II, pp. 277-278)

As we look through the body’s eyes, it seems impossible that the world we see “out there” is actually in our mind. Yet the ego, the thought system of separation, is in our mind. The body is an image made by the ego as a substitute for our Identity in the Mind of God. Being a substitute, it is not real. As an unreal image, the body is incapable of seeing reality.

The body cannot show us unity, being itself an image of separation. We must turn to another kind of seeing in order to recognize our Unity in the Mind of Love. This vision is offered us by the Holy Spirit from outside the thought system of separation. This inner vision sees past all form to the Spirit of Love that is ever present. Forms are recognized as meaningless and without substance because only Love is real.

As we learn to accept that what we see is in our mind, we can take responsibility for our seeing. The practice of taking all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit to look at with His vision is the path that leads us Home to Unity and Love.

Receiving and Extending God’s Peace

No one can fail to find [peace] who but seeks out its conditions. God’s peace can never come where anger is, for anger must deny that peace exists. Who sees anger as justified in any way or any circumstance proclaims that peace is meaningless, and must believe that it cannot exist. In this condition, peace cannot be found. Therefore, forgiveness is the necessary condition for finding the peace of God. More than this, given forgiveness there must be peace.

Stop for a moment now and think of this: Is conflict what you want, or is God’s peace the better choice? Which gives you more? A tranquil mind is not a little gift. (A Course in Miracles, M-20.3:2-6;4:6-8)

Today we practice forgiving that which was never real. As Course students, we learn that only Love is real. Today we open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance to show us how to look past illusions and see the eternal Love that is ever present.

The Holy Spirit knows how to free us from the thoughts of conflict and judgment that show up in the ego’s thought system of seeing differences and separation. The Holy Spirit lifts us up and helps us rise above the battlefield where conflict reigns. As we rise above to see the Love, peace fills our awareness… We are willing to receive God’s peace and extend it everywhere…
