Forgiveness Brings a Quiet Mind

In quiet I receive God’s Word today.

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening. ²Your Father wills you hear His Word today. ³He calls to you from deep within your mind where He abides. ⁴Hear Him today. ⁵No peace is possible until His Word is heard around the world; until your mind, in quiet listening, accepts the message that the world must hear to usher in the quiet time of peace.

This world will change through you. ²No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. ³He is not led by force, but only love. ⁴He is not judged, but only sanctified.

In stillness we will hear God’s Voice today without intrusion of our petty thoughts, without our personal desires, and without all judgment of His holy Word. ²We will not judge ourselves today, for what we are can not be judged. It is possible to have a quiet mind all through the day. The natural stillness in our mind is disturbed by our judgments, which come from our wish to be separate from our Source. As we forgive our judgments, our mind becomes more quiet.

Forgiveness welcomes Love’s presence and peace comes with Love. Today we practice bringing every thought that disturbs our peace to the Holy Spirit. We ask for His help to heal our perceptions.

His lessons will teach us to let go of attachments which we thought would bring us what we want. We think they will make us happy or safe. But we are afraid that we will lose them. We are assured that we cannot lose the happiness, safety and certainty of God’s limitless Love. And we are grateful.

Bringing Love’s Blessing to the World

I rest in God.

²I rest in God today, and let Him work in me and through me, while I rest in Him in quiet and in perfect certainty.

I am as God created me.

²I am God’s Son. ³Today I lay aside all sick illusions of myself, and let my Father tell me Who I really am. (A Course in Miracles, W-120.1:1–2:3. See also ACIM Lesson 120 Insights.)

Together we are God’s Son. We share the one Self that is united with our Father in Love’s oneness.

We pause now to step back from the busyness of the world to rest in God’s Love. We step aside from the self-image we have mistakenly believed is our identity. We rest in Him and let His Love work through us and in us. As we let His Love flow, we bring His blessing to the world. And we give thanks.

Freeing Ourselves from Attachments

My home awaits me. I will hasten there.

If I so choose, I can depart this world entirely. ²It is not death which makes this possible, but it is change of mind about the purpose of the world. ³If I believe it has a value as I see it now, so will it still remain for me. ⁴But if I see no value in the world as I behold it, nothing that I want to keep as mine or search for as a goal, it will depart from me. ⁵For I have not sought for illusions to replace the truth.

Father, my home awaits my glad return. ²Your Arms are open and I hear Your Voice. ³What need have I to linger in a place of vain desires and of shattered dreams, when Heaven can so easily be mine? (A Course in Miracles, W-226. See also ACIM Lesson 226 Insights.)

Attachment to a belief, a place, a thing or situation keeps us separated from the oneness of Love. The purpose of forgiveness is to release us from our attachments. As we let them go, we become increasingly aware of the Love that is always in our mind.

Attachment is always an attempt to keep what we believe will make us happy. Yet the only Source of true happiness is the Love of God. It is His Love that completes us, as we complete Him.

Today we practice letting go of our attachments to our beliefs in what will make us happy. As we let them go, we discover we have always been at Home in Heaven.

Seeing Love’s Presence Everywhere

Minds that are joined and recognize they are, can feel no guilt. ²For they cannot attack, and they rejoice that this is so, seeing their safety in this happy fact. ³Their joy is in the innocence they see. ⁴And thus they seek for it, because it is their purpose to behold it and rejoice.

Perception’s basic law could thus be said, “You will rejoice at what you see because you see it to rejoice.” ²And while you think that suffering and sin will bring you joy, so long will they be there for you to see. ³Nothing is harmful or beneficent apart from what you wish. …⁷The Son of God creates [extends Love] to bring him joy, sharing his Father’s purpose in his own creation, that his joy might be increased, and God’s along with his. Gratitude and joy go hand in hand. When we see something that brings us joy, we are grateful. The greatest source of joy is the eternal, changeless Love of God. Joy comes in sharing this Love. In the sharing, Love extends and joy increases.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize the cause for Love that surrounds us. We live in Love. As the Holy Spirit helps us let go of the beliefs that interfere with the awareness of Love’s presence, our joy increases. We are grateful that we have the Holy Spirit’s help to see the presence of Love everywhere.

Learning to Demonstrate the Love We Are

The ego’s plan for salvation centers around holding grievances. ²It maintains that, if someone else spoke or acted differently, if some external circumstance or event were changed, you would be saved. ³Thus, the source of salvation is constantly perceived as outside yourself. ⁴Each grievance you hold is a declaration, and an assertion in which you believe, that says, “If this were different, I would be saved.” ⁵The change of mind necessary for salvation is thus demanded of everyone and everything except yourself.

God’s plan for salvation works simply because, by following His direction, you seek for salvation where it is. ²But if you are to succeed, as God promises you will, you must be willing to seek there only.”

“²Ask Him very specifically:

³What would You have me do?
⁴Where would You have me go?
⁵What would You have me say, and to whom?

…and let Him tell you what needs to be done by you in His plan for your salvation. ⁷He will answer in proportion to your willingness to hear His Voice. ⁸Refuse not to hear. (A Course in Miracles, W-71.2;5:1-2;9:2-8. See also ACIM Lesson 71 Insights.)

In this world there is much we need to do to set ourselves free. God has given us His Voice to guide us in all our doing. Every moment is an opportunity to let Love be expressed through our thoughts, words, and actions.

The habit of asking for His direction opens our mind to receive His help and express the Love we are. This practice leads to letting go of the blocks to awareness of Love’s presence. We become God’s teachers as we demonstrate the Love we are.

Remembering Our True Identity

Love, which created me, is what I am.

I seek my own Identity, and find It in these words: “Love, which created me, is what I am.” ²Now need I seek no more. ³Love has prevailed. ⁴So still It waited for my coming home, that I will turn away no longer from the holy face of Christ. ⁵And what I look upon attests the truth of the Identity I sought to lose, but which my Father has kept safe for me.

Father, my thanks to You for what I am; for keeping my Identity untouched and sinless, in the midst of all the thoughts of sin my foolish mind made up. ²And thanks to You for saving me from them. ³Amen. (A Course in Miracles, W-229. See also ACIM Lesson 229 Insights.)

The changelessness of God has kept our true Self unchanged throughout our dream of time. Time changes but what is eternal is changeless. The grace of God maintained an unbreakable connection with His Son as an extension of Himself.

Our unchangeable Identity keeps us safe in the Love of God. As His extension, our function is to extend That Love. We know we have It by giving the Love we have received.

In the dream of separation, our function is to forgive the mistaken thoughts that interfer with the continuous flow of Love. This is how we will remember our Identity as Love.

Finding Our Completion

To forgive is merely to remember only the loving thoughts you gave in the past, and those that were given you. ²All the rest must be forgotten. ³Forgiveness is a selective remembering, based not on your selection. ⁴For the shadow figures you would make immortal are “enemies” of reality. ⁵Be willing to forgive the Son of God for what he did not do.

How can the Holy Spirit bring His interpretation of the body as a means of communication into relationships whose only purpose is separation from reality? ²What forgiveness is enables Him to do so. ³If all but loving thoughts have been forgotten, what remains is eternal. ⁴And the transformed past is made like the present. …⁸That is why Atonement centers on the past, which is the source of separation, and where it must be undone. ⁹For separation must be corrected where it was made. The only function of the Son of God is the extend the Love his Father gives. There is nothing else to receive or to give, for only Love is real.

If we perceive a brother doing something else, we are seeing a false image made to make separation seem real. It is a projection representing what we believe we are. It is this false image that must be forgiven.

With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can recognize that what the image portrayed is not real and never happened. This is the selective remembering that will reveal the Love that every brother offers in truth. As we recognize that, we see the Love that is our true Self. Where there was conflict, we find peace. Where there was a sense of loss, we experience our completion in the Love of our Creator. We join in the joy of extending Love.
