Let Love Release Us from the Past

This instant is the only time there is.

I have conceived of time in such a way that I defeat my aim. ²If I elect to reach past time to timelessness, I must change my perception of what time is for. ³Time’s purpose cannot be to keep the past and future one. ⁴The only interval in which I can be saved from time is now. ⁵For in this instant has forgiveness come to set me free. ⁶The birth of Christ is now, without a past or future. ⁷He has come to give His present blessing to the world, restoring it to timelessness and love. ⁸And love is ever-present, here and now.

Thanks for this instant, Father. ²It is now I am redeemed. ³This instant is the time You have appointed for Your Son’s release, and for salvation of the world in him. (A Course in Miracles, W-308. See also ACIM Lesson 308 Insights.)

While we identify with a body, we interpret the present based on ‘memories’ of past experiences of our body. This past covers the present instant with a cloud of illusions that prevent us from recognizing the Light that is eternally shining in the now moment.

When we let go of our attachment to the past, we open our mind to receive Christ’s vision to see past the clouds. Our mind is lit with the Light of Love that shines away the past. We welcome the Love that keeps us eternally united with God and all His Creation.

Bringing Heaven’s Light to the World

Let not my world obscure the sight of Christ.

I can obscure my holy sight, if I intrude my world upon it. ²Nor can I behold the holy sights Christ looks upon, unless it is His vision that I use. ³Perception is a mirror, not a fact. ⁴And what I look on is my state of mind, reflected outward. ⁵I would bless the world by looking on it through the eyes of Christ. ⁶And I will look upon the certain signs that all my sins have been forgiven me.

You lead me from the darkness to the light; from sin to holiness. ²Let me forgive, and thus receive salvation for the world. ³It is Your gift, my Father, given me to offer to Your holy Son, that he may find again the memory of You, and of Your Son as You created him. Our perceptions give us direct feedback about our state of mind. Is our mind aligned with the ego thought system of separation? If so, we perceive conflict, lack, loss, depression, fear and guilt. Is our mind in its natural state of alignment with the Mind of God? Then we perceive holiness and innocence, changeless love, joy and peace that cannot be disturbed.

We are always free to turn on the Light of Love by forgiving ourselves for choosing specialness in place of the oneness of our Father’s Love. We have a Guide in our mind Whose sole purpose is to guide us out of the darkness into the Light of Heaven, our Home. Today we choose to accept His vision to release the world from our vain imaginings.

Remembering Our True Identity Is Love

The ego and the spirit do not know each other. ²The separated mind cannot maintain the separation except by dissociating. ³Having done this, it denies all truly natural impulses, not because the ego is a separate thing, but because you want to believe that you are. ⁴The ego is a device for maintaining this belief, but it is still only your decision to use the device that enables it to endure.

How can you teach someone the value of something he has deliberately thrown away? ²He must have thrown it away because he did not value it. ³You can only show him how miserable he is without it, and slowly bring it nearer so he can learn how his misery lessens as he approaches it. …⁶I am teaching you to associate misery with the ego and joy with the spirit. Our true Self is always supremely happy. If we do not experience this level of happiness, it is because we are dissociating from our real Identity as God’s Son. Instead, we are identifying with the ego which wants us to believe that we are separate and alone. Unhappiness is inevitable because we are denying the Source of happiness.

We have been given a Guide to help us recognize the consequence of our mistaken identification, and let go of the cause. If we are willing to let Him teach us to recognize the Love that is hidden behind the images of separation, we will find joy in the Love we see surrounding us. We will remember our true Identity as Love.

Accepting the Gift of Christ

The gift of Christ is all I seek today.

“=What but Christ’s vision would I use today, when it can offer me a day in which I see a world so like to Heaven that an ancient memory returns to me? ²Today I can forget the world I made. ³Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace. ⁴Today I am redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.

And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. ²In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. ³We cannot make an offering [illusion] sufficient for Your Son. ⁴But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his. Our Creator has given us the means to recognize the purity of Love that is the truth in everyone. But our wish to have a unique identity that makes us special denies the gift that keeps us forever united with our Father.

When we let go of that denial of our true Identity, we remember we never left the safety of our Home in Heaven. Today we set aside our mistaken wish for specialness and come with an open mind to accept the gift of our Father’s Love. In gratitude we recognize His Love as the truth in everyone.

Returning Peace to Our Troubled Mind

²Reality is never frightening. ³It is impossible that it could upset me. ⁴Reality brings only perfect peace. ⁵When I am upset, it is always because I have replaced reality with illusions I made up. ⁶The illusions are upsetting because I have given them reality, and thus regard reality as an illusion. ⁷Nothing in God’s creation is affected in any way by this confusion of mine. ⁸I am always upset by nothing.

²I see only my own thoughts, and my mind is preoccupied with the past. ³What, then, can I see as it is? ⁴Let me remember that I look on the past to prevent the present from dawning on my mind. ⁵Let me understand that I am trying to use time against God. ⁶Let me learn to give the past away, realizing that in so doing I am giving up nothing.

²If I see nothing as it is now, it can truly be said that I see nothing. ³I can see only what is now. ⁴The choice is not whether to see the past or the present; the choice is merely whether to see or not. ⁵What I have chosen to see has cost me vision. ⁶Now I would choose again, that I may see. Whenever we are not experiencing perfect peace, it is because we are perceiving images caused by the wish for specialness. Differences are fearful because they make loss of love appear to be possible. Perception of differences depends on judgment to give them a semblance of meaning.

Yet what God has given us can never be lost. God is Love and all He creates is Love. He has created us, His Son, as everlasting Love. We claim our true Identity by forgiving or letting go of the wish for specialness. Each time we pause to step back from our judgments and offer them to the Holy Spirit for His correction, we open our mind to accept our true Self. Peace returns to our troubled mind.

Moving from Chaos to Peace of Mind

Father, I come to You today to seek the peace that You alone can give. ²I come in silence. ³In the quiet of my heart, the deep recesses of my mind, I wait and listen for Your Voice. ⁴My Father, speak to me today. ⁵I come to hear Your Voice in silence and in certainty and love, sure You will hear my call and answer me.

Now do we wait in quiet. ²God is here, because we wait together. ³I am sure that He will speak to you, and you will hear. ⁴Accept my confidence, for it is yours. ⁵Our minds are joined. ⁶We wait with one intent; to hear our Father’s answer to our call, to let our thoughts be still and find His peace, to hear Him speak to us of what we are, and to reveal Himself unto His Son. Chaos is the ego’s safe place. It keeps our mind cluttered with its meaningless thoughts in an attempt to keep us from pausing to quiet our mind. The ego is afraid of a quiet mind, because in stillness the mind is open to hear the Voice of God.

Today is a good day to practice pausing in the midst of chaos to welcome the peace of God into our mind. In peace we hear His Voice speak to us of the changeless Love that is the Identity we share with Him and everyone. And Christ’s vision will show us the innocence that is the truth in everyone. Chaos will fade into the nothingness from which it came, and we will know we are safe in our Father’s Love.

Love Is Everyone’s True Identity

Love created me like itself.

Today’s idea is a complete and accurate statement of what you are. ²This is why you are the light of the world. ³This is why God appointed you as the world’s savior. ⁴This is why the Son of God looks to you for his salvation. ⁵He is saved by what you are. ⁶We will make every effort today to reach this truth about you, and to realize fully, if only for a moment, that it is the truth.

…think about your reality and its wholly unchanged and unchangeable nature.

³Holiness created me holy.
⁴Kindness created me kind.
⁵Helpfulness created me helpful.
⁶Perfection created me perfect.

⁷Any attribute which is in accord with God as He defines Himself is appropriate for use. ⁸We are trying today to undo your definition of God and replace it with His Own. ⁹We are also trying to emphasize that you are part of His definition of Himself.

²You need to hear the truth about yourself as frequently as possible, because your mind is so preoccupied with false self-images. …remind yourself that love created you like itself. (A Course in Miracles, W-67.1;2:1,3-9;5:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 67 Insights.)

The ego defines God in its own image — judgmental and vindictive. It tells us that if we are not careful, God will condemn us to hell. But it is the ego that condemns.

God is only Love, nothing else, and Love does not condemn. Being all that is real, Love sees Itself everywhere. It is eternally united with the Love that is our true Self.

Love shares all of Its attributes with all. Because we were created by Love, we share all of Its attributes. Today we claim all of Love’s attributes as our own, and we see these qualities as the true nature of everyone we meet or think of, because only Love is real.
