Freeing Ourselves to Extend Our Father’s Love

²You cannot wake yourself. ³Yet you can let yourself be wakened. ⁴You can overlook your brother’s dreams. ⁵So perfectly can you forgive him his illusions he becomes your savior from your dreams. ⁶And as you see him shining in the space of light where God abides within the darkness, you will see that God Himself is where his body is. ⁷Before this light the body disappears, as heavy shadows must give way to light. ⁸The darkness cannot choose that it remain. ⁹The coming of the light means it is gone. ¹⁰In glory will you see your brother then, and understand what really fills the gap so long perceived as keeping you apart. ¹¹There, in its place, God’s witness has set forth the gentle way of kindness to God’s Son. ¹²Whom you forgive is given power to forgive you your illusions. ¹³By your gift of freedom is it given unto you.

Make way for love, which you did not create, but which you can extend. ²On earth this means forgive your brother, that the darkness may be lifted from your mind. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.III.3:2–4:2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The mind asleep in dreams of separation sees conflicting images made by the wish for specialness. Perceptions seem to confirm that differences are real, and harm and loss are real. The presence of Love is hidden beneath clouds of fear and guilt.

Forgiveness restores Love’s presence to our awareness. In Its Light, the Love that is our brother’s reality shines into our mind, awakening us to our true Identity as Love and nothing else. We free ourselves to join with our brothers in the eternal extension of our Father’s Love.

Opening Our Minds to Accept God’s Gifts

²The peace of God is everything I want. ³The peace of God is my one goal; the aim of all my living here, the end I seek, my purpose and my function and my life, while I abide where I am not at home.

²I am entrusted with the gifts of God, because I am His Son. ³And I would give His gifts where He intended them to be.

⁴I am not a body. ⁵I am free. ⁶For I am still as God created me. (W-205.1:2-3;206.1:2-6)

Everyone in the world wants the peace of God. Somewhere deep inside, we know that peace is our natural state of mind. When we do not experience peace, we naturally seek to find it.

The ego’s plan to fulfill this wish is to direct our search where it cannot be found. It directs us to defend ourselves and attack others, even to the point of death. Its plans can never work because the ego denies the Source of peace.

The Holy Spirit’s plan guides us to forgive our self-made barriers to peace. It reminds us that we are not a body. As we let go of our mistaken identification with the body, we set ourselves free to accept God’s gifts of all of His peace, His joy and His Love.

Letting the Holy Spirit Heal Our Misperceptions

The world is false perception. ²It is born of error, and it has not left its source. ³It will remain no longer than the thought that gave it birth is cherished. ⁴When the thought of separation has been changed to one of true forgiveness, will the world be seen in quite another light; and one which leads to truth, where all the world must disappear and all its errors vanish. ⁵Now its source has gone, and its effects are gone as well.

The world was made as an attack on God. ²It symbolizes fear. ³And what is fear except love’s absence? ⁴Thus the world was meant to be a place where God could enter not, and where His Son could be apart from Him.

As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. ²Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world. ³Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. ⁴Hear His Voice alone in all that speaks to you. ⁵And let Him give you peace and certainty,… (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.3.1:1–2:4;4:1-5)

The thought of separation makes a world where every perception brings with it an underlying fear. Even our happiest perceptions seem unstable, temporary at best. There seems to be a constant need to protect against loss and harm. But there is another way of seeing the world.

If we are willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s help, our perceptions can be given a new purpose. His Light in our minds will reveal the certain foundation of peace that was hidden behind our false perceptions. As these perceptions are forgiven, we remember our Father’s gifts of perfect peace and universal Love without limit.

We All Are God’s Son Eternally

Whatever suffers is not part of me.

I have disowned the truth. ²Now let me be as faithful in disowning falsity. ³Whatever suffers is not part of me. ⁴What grieves is not myself. ⁵What is in pain is but illusion in my mind. ⁶What dies was never living in reality, and did but mock the truth about myself. ⁷Now I disown self-concepts and deceits and lies about the holy Son of God. ⁸Now am I ready to accept him back as God created him, and as he is.

Father, my ancient love for You returns, and lets me love Your Son again as well. ²Father, I am as You created me. ³Now is Your Love remembered, and my own. ⁴Now do I understand that they are one. (A Course in Miracles, W-248. See also ACIM Lesson 248 Insights.)

When we believe anyone is a body, we are disowning our true Identity as God’s Son. Only Love is real, and Love is our Identity, eternally one with our Creator.

The Love of God calls to us to remember we are Love. The Love we are sees only the Love that is the truth in everyone. Forgiveness clears away the self-deception that causes us to suffer, grieve and experience pain of any kind.

Today we choose to hear our Father’s call and accept His gift of Love. With His Love in our hearts, we claim our unity with the Love in everyone. We rest in His peace, confident that we remain God’s Son eternally.

Accepting Our Unity in the Love of God

My sinlessness protects me from all harm.

My sinlessness ensures me perfect peace, eternal safety, everlasting love, freedom forever from all thought of loss; complete deliverance from suffering. ²And only happiness can be my state, for only happiness is given me. ³What must I do to know all this is mine? ⁴I must accept Atonement for myself, and nothing more. ⁵God has already done all things that need be done. ⁶And I must learn I need do nothing of myself, for I need but accept my Self, my sinlessness, created for me, now already mine, to feel God’s Love protecting me from harm, to understand my Father loves His Son; to know I am the Son my Father loves.

You Who created me in sinlessness are not mistaken about what I am. ²I was mistaken when I thought I sinned [separated], but I accept Atonement for myself. ³Father, my dream is ended now. ⁴Amen. (A Course in Miracles, W-337. See also ACIM Lesson 337 Insights.)

The ego is an attempt to usurp God’s creation by making up a separate identity we can each call our own. But no distinctions can exist within God’s Love, which is one and universally the same everywhere and always.

We do not need to do anything to claim our true Identity as God’s Son, forever one with His Love. We accept Atonement for our true Self by stopping giving any credence to a separate identity. In truth, we are God’s Son, forever united with all in His Love.

Joining in the Limitless Giving of God’s Love

Forgiveness ends all suffering and loss.

Forgiveness paints a picture of a world where suffering is over, loss becomes impossible and anger makes no sense. ²Attack is gone, and madness has an end. ³What suffering is now conceivable? ⁴What loss can be sustained? ⁵The world becomes a place of joy, abundance, charity and endless giving. ⁶It is now so like to Heaven that it quickly is transformed into the light that it reflects. ⁷And so the journey which the Son of God began has ended in the light from which he came.

Father, we would return our minds to You. ²We have betrayed them, held them in a vise of bitterness, and frightened them with thoughts of violence and death. ³Now would we rest again in You, as You created us. (A Course in Miracles, W-249. See also ACIM Lesson 249 Insights.)

Do we want to live in a world of peace, abundance and happiness? Forgiveness offers this. This is what God promised His Son as He created him. Forgiveness releases us from the dream that denies our Father’s gift.

Today we pause to quiet our mind to let the Light of Love shine away our images of separation. Our hearts overflow with joy as we join in limitless giving of the Love we receive eternally from our Father.

Let All Appearances Be Healed

The miracle attests salvation from appearances by showing they can change. ³Your brother has a changelessness in him beyond appearance and deception, both. ⁴It is obscured by changing views of him that you perceive as his reality.

⁵The Christ in him [every brother] is perfect. ⁶Is it this that you would look upon? ⁷Then let there be no dreams about him that you would prefer to seeing this. ⁸And you will see the Christ in him because you let Him come to you. ⁹And when He has appeared to you, you will be certain you are like Him, for He is the changeless in your brother and in you.

This will you look upon when you decide there is not one appearance you would hold in place of what your brother really is. ²Let no temptation to prefer a dream allow uncertainty to enter here. ³Be not made guilty and afraid when you are tempted by a dream of what he is. ⁴But do not give it power to replace the changeless in him in your sight of him. ⁵There is no false appearance but will fade, if you request a miracle instead. There is in everyone a changelessness beyond the shifting appearances that we perceive. It is the Christ, God’s holy Son. This is the true Identity we share with everyone.

Perception of shifting appearances can only occur in dreams of separation. Whenever there is uncertainty in our mind, we need to turn to the Holy Spirit for help to see past appearances. With His help, conflict will be replaced by peace of mind, fear transformed to Love, and guilt replaced by recognition of the sinlessness we share with every brother.
