The Choice for Happiness

²The purpose of the world you see is to obscure your function of forgiveness, and provide you with a justification for forgetting it.

Nothing the body’s eyes seem to see can be anything but a form of temptation, since this was the purpose of the body itself. ²Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them. ³To the Holy Spirit, the world is a place where you learn to forgive yourself what you think of as your sins. ⁴In this perception, the physical appearance of temptation becomes the spiritual recognition of salvation.

…your function here is to be the light of the world, a function given you by God. …³The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. ⁴The Son of God is you.

²Let me not forget my function.
³Let me not try to substitute mine for God’s.

If our function is to forgive, and forgiveness is the key to happiness, our function is to be happy. If we are not supremely happy, we are not fulfilling the function God has given us.

All our perceptions in the world involve judgment. While we are following the dictates of the ego, our judgments make us unhappy and fearful. These judgments bring with them a feeling of guilt because we know we are opposing the Will of God.

We can choose another Guide for our judgments. When we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to interpret our perceptions, we see them as opportunities for Love. We will answer calls for Love with Love. Or we will recognize the Love we share with our brothers and join in Its unity.

Today will be a happy day fulfilling our function by choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide.

Opening Our Mind to God’s Blessing

A happy outcome to all things is sure.

God’s promises make no exceptions. ²And He guarantees that only joy can be the final outcome found for everything. ³Yet it is up to us when this is reached; how long we let an alien will appear to be opposing His. ⁴And while we think this will is real, we will not find the end He has appointed as the outcome of all problems we perceive, all trials we see, and every situation that we meet. ⁵Yet is the ending certain. ⁶For God’s Will is done in earth and Heaven. ⁷We will seek and we will find according to His Will, which guarantees that our will is done.

We thank You, Father, for Your guarantee of only happy outcomes in the end. ²Help us not interfere, and so delay the happy endings You have promised us for every problem that we can perceive; for every trial we think we still must meet. We are blessed to have a Father whose only wish for us is that we share His happiness. That is His Will and ours as well. We accept His blessing by letting go of our mistaken wish for specialness. Our Father cannot share this wish with us because His blessing is given equally to all.

We welcome His blessing by being willing to let go of our judgments of the world. He has given us His Voice to guide us to see clearly the path of Light that leads to His gift of perfect happiness. In gratitude we accept His help and open our mind to His blessing.

Learning to Follow the Path to God’s Love

This is a day of stillness and of peace.

Christ’s vision looks through me today. ²His sight shows me all things forgiven and at peace, and offers this same vision to the world. ³And I accept this vision in its name, both for myself and for the world as well. ⁴What loveliness we look upon today! ⁵What holiness we see surrounding us! ⁶And it is given us to recognize it is a holiness in which we share; it is the Holiness of God Himself.

This day my mind is quiet, to receive the Thoughts You offer me. ²And I accept what comes from You, instead of from myself. ³I do not know the way to You. ⁴But You are wholly certain. ⁵Father, guide Your Son along the quiet path that leads to You. ⁶Let my forgiveness be complete, and let the memory of You return to me. The changelessness of God’s Love makes it the Home of stillness and peace. It is where we live in truth.

When we accepted the idea that we wanted specialness, we introduced the idea of differences into our mind. With differences comes conflict, seeming loss, fear and guilt. Within this thought system are myriad recurring cycles of attack and defend. Stillness and peace are unknown in this thought system. We need help to undo our attachment to specialness.

Christ’s vision is a gift the Holy Spirit brings to help us forgive our mistaken beliefs. Christ’s vision shows us a forgiven world where Love is always in uninterrupted flow. Today we welcome Christ’s vision to help us forgive the world we made when we chose the ego thought system. As we accept Christ’s vision, we find our way back to the changeless Love of God.

Accepting God’s Gift of All of Himself

Love created me like itself.

Today’s idea is a complete and accurate statement of what you are. ²This is why you are the light of the world. ³This is why God appointed you as the world’s savior. ⁴This is why the Son of God looks to you for his salvation. ⁵He is saved by what you are. ⁶We will make every effort today to reach this truth about you, and to realize fully, if only for a moment, that it is the truth.

…think about your reality and its wholly unchanged and unchangeable nature.…

³Holiness created me holy.
⁴Kindness created me kind.
⁵Helpfulness created me helpful.
⁶Perfection created me perfect.

⁷Any attribute which is in accord with God as He defines Himself is appropriate for use. ⁸We are trying today to undo your definition of God and replace it with His Own. ⁹We are also trying to emphasize that you are part of His definition of Himself.”

²You need to hear the truth about yourself as frequently as possible, because your mind is so preoccupied with false self-images. …remind yourself that love created you like itself. (A Course in Miracles, W-67.1;2:1,3-9;5:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 67 Insights.)

Our Father defined us as part of Himself. As His Son, the truth in us has all the attributes of God. This can never change because it is God’s Will.

The ego thought system of separation has given us an image of ourself that is the opposite of the truth. We seem to be capable of hate and fear, anger and attack. Yet all this only seems to occur in the ego’s world. It can never be true.

Today we are being reminded of the qualities of our true Self, our only Reality. Today we practice acknowledging that in ourselves and in all our brothers. We are grateful that God’s holiness, kindness and peace abide in us. We are willing to accept them as our truth.

Transforming Our Perception of Our “Enemies”

Today accept God’s peace and joy as yours. ²Let Him complete Himself as He defines completion. ³You will understand that what completes Him must complete His Son as well. ⁴He cannot give through loss. ⁵No more can you. ⁶Receive His gift of joy and peace today, and He will thank you for your gift to Him.

²Begin today by thinking of those brothers who have been denied by you the peace and joy that are their right under the equal laws of God. ³Here you denied them to yourself. ⁴And here you must return to claim them as your own.

Think of your “enemies” a little while, and tell each one, as he occurs to you:

²My brother, peace and joy I offer you, that I may have God’s peace and joy as mine.

³Thus you prepare yourself to recognize God’s gifts to you, and let your mind be free of all that would prevent success today. ⁴Now are you ready to accept the gift of peace and joy that God has given you. ⁵Now are you ready to experience the joy and peace you have denied yourself. ⁶Now you can say, “God’s peace and joy are mine,” for you have given what you would receive. Peace and joy are attributes of Love. Love cannot be contained. It must be given because that is how It is received. Love is lost when It is withheld. That is why the ego is the denial of Love.

When we perceive someone as an enemy, we withhold Love and thus feel lack of Love. To know of God’s Love for us, His Son, we must extend His Love. Peace and joy are attributes of Love. When we offer Love we are giving peace and joy.

We are truly helpful when we give peace and joy. Our helpfulness covers our brother and ourselves equally. Today we focus on giving peace and joy, for we want to know that peace and joy are ours. We bring blessing to the world and know that we are blessed.

Accepting the Peace and Joy Within

Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your sins are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you? ²Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. ³You think that this is death, but it is life. ⁴You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.

The self you made is not the Son of God. ²Therefore, this self does not exist at all. ³And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. ⁴It is neither bad nor good. ⁵It is unreal, and nothing more than that.

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ²Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. ³It is true. ⁴Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ⁵Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. ⁶The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. ⁷Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

²Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

³Light and joy and peace abide in you.
⁴Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. (A Course in Miracles, W-93.4:1–5:5;6;11:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 93 Insights.)

Accepting the assurance that our sinlessness is guaranteed by God is the antidote to all our sense of unworthiness, vulnerability, fear and guilt. God’s guarantee is that we remain one with Him. In His Reality, our true Self is Love and nothing else.

We have accepted a false belief that we have succeeded in separating from our Creator. As we affirm that our sinlessness is guaranteed by God, we are reminding ourselves of our true Identity. If we tell a brother that his sinlessness is guaranteed by God, we are giving the same message to ourselves. It is a key to letting go of our false beliefs and awakening to the light and joy in God’s Heaven.

The Light That Transforms Our Perception

It is God’s strength in you that is the light in which you see, as it is His Mind with which you think. ²His strength denies your weakness. ³It is your weakness that sees through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to behold the likeness of itself;…

Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. ²It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. ³It unites with light, of which it is a part. ⁴It sees itself.

Truth is a savior and can only will for happiness and peace for everyone. ⁴It gives its strength to everyone who asks, in limitless supply. ⁵It sees that lack in anyone would be a lack in all. ⁶And so it gives its light that all may see and benefit as one. ⁷Its strength is shared, that it may bring to all the miracle in which they will unite in purpose and forgiveness and in love.

The strength in you will offer you the light, and guide your seeing so you do not dwell on idle shadows that the body’s eyes provide for self-deception. (A Course in Miracles, W-92.3:1-3;4:1-4;5:3-7;9:1. See also ACIM Lesson 92 Insights.)

Miracles are experienced when we forgive our perception and see the unifying presence of Love. Love lights the dark shadows in our mind to dispel our mistaken beliefs in being isolated and alone. As we learn to let the Love within show us the truth of our Identity, we easily dismiss the mistaken perceptions of differences, loss, lack, fear and guilt.

We are assured that the Light of Love is always with us. It is our strength, which comes from God. Today we call upon the strength of Love within to guide us to see past the fearful images of the world. These images are not real. The Light reveals the truth that behind these images is only the oneness of Love. Nothing else exists.

Today we choose the Light of Love as our Guide. It will bring us miracles that transform our perception.
