The Choice for Happiness and Peace

I will step back and let Him lead the way.

There is a way of living in the world that is not here, although it seems to be. ²You do not change appearance, though you smile more frequently. ³Your forehead is serene; your eyes are quiet. ⁴And the ones who walk the world as you do recognize their own. ⁵Yet those who have not yet perceived the way will recognize you also, and believe that you are like them, as you were before.

The world is an illusion. ²Those who choose to come to it are seeking for a place where they can be illusions, and avoid their own reality. ³Yet when they find their own reality is even here, then they step back and let it lead the way. ⁴What other choice is really theirs to make? ⁵To let illusions walk ahead of truth is madness. ⁶But to let illusion sink behind the truth and let the truth stand forth as what it is, is merely sanity.

This is the simple choice we make today. ²The mad illusion will remain awhile in evidence, for those to look upon who chose to come, and have not yet rejoiced to find they were mistaken in their choice. ³They cannot learn directly from the truth, because they have denied that it is so. ⁴And so they need a Teacher Who perceives their madness, but Who still can look beyond illusion to the simple truth in them.

…there is another road that leads away from loss of every kind, for sacrifice and deprivation both are quickly left behind. ²This is the way appointed for you now.” (A Course in Miracles, W-155.1-3;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 155 Insights.)

The ego is a control freak. It is certain that it knows what we need, what will make us happy, and how to get it. It sees itself as alone, in constant conflict with a world that would deny it everything that it wants or needs. Yet it denies our only real need — to be the Love that our loving Father created us to be.

We do not need to accept the ego’s control. In every moment we have the option to step back and let the Holy Spirit lead the way. He will help us reinterpret our misperceptions to show us that we are the Love we seek. He will teach us how to forgive the ego’s denial of Love. Free from the ego, we will extend the Love we are to the world and find happiness and peace.

Look Upon God’s World Today

Father, unless I judge I cannot weep. ²Nor can I suffer pain, or feel I am abandoned or unneeded in the world. ³This is my home because I judge it not, and therefore is it only what You will. ⁴Let me today behold it uncondemned, through happy eyes forgiveness has released from all distortion. ⁵Let me see Your world instead of mine. ⁶And all the tears I shed will be forgotten, for their source is gone. ⁷Father, I will not judge Your world today.

God’s world is happy. ²Those who look on it can only add their joy to it, and bless it as a cause of further joy in them. ³We wept because we did not understand. ⁴But we have learned the world we saw was false, and we will look upon God’s world today. We only feel sad, angry, fearful or guilty because we have judged the world. The body’s eyes distort the world by seeing only illusions. Forgiveness is the way to dispel illusions and allow the reality of Love to dawn upon our minds.

Our search for Love is fulfilled when we forgive our judgments. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to heal our mind of mistaken wishes. We want to see the Presence of Love that is our natural habitat. This is how we will know we are in God’s world where we are truly happy.

Choose to Extend Only Love

Salvation is the recognition that the truth is true, and nothing else is true. …⁵Truth cannot have an opposite.

As God created you, you must remain unchangeable, with transitory states by definition false. ²And that includes all shifts in feeling, alterations in conditions of the body and the mind; in all awareness and in all response. ³This is the all-inclusiveness which sets the truth apart from falsehood, and the false kept separate from the truth, as what it is.

Let us today be truly humble, and accept what we have made as what it is. ²The power of decision is our own. ³Decide but to accept your rightful place as co-creator of the universe, and all you think you made will disappear. ⁴What rises to awareness then will be all that there ever was, eternally as it is now. ⁵And it will take the place of self-deceptions made but to usurp the altar to the Father and the Son. God is changeless Love. All His creation is an unlimited extension of what He is. We, His one Son, share His Will to extend only Love.

The decision to seek specialness denies our true Identity. To make this decision seem to work, we join with the ego to make illusions of differences that seem to be real. It is time to make a different choice. It is time to join with our Father as co-creator of the universe of Love. This is the choice that will return us to the joy, peace and Love that is our natural state.

Let Love Release Us from the Past

This instant is the only time there is.

I have conceived of time in such a way that I defeat my aim. ²If I elect to reach past time to timelessness, I must change my perception of what time is for. ³Time’s purpose cannot be to keep the past and future one. ⁴The only interval in which I can be saved from time is now. ⁵For in this instant has forgiveness come to set me free. ⁶The birth of Christ is now, without a past or future. ⁷He has come to give His present blessing to the world, restoring it to timelessness and love. ⁸And love is ever-present, here and now.

Thanks for this instant, Father. ²It is now I am redeemed. ³This instant is the time You have appointed for Your Son’s release, and for salvation of the world in him. (A Course in Miracles, W-308. See also ACIM Lesson 308 Insights.)

While we identify with a body, we interpret the present based on ‘memories’ of past experiences of our body. This past covers the present instant with a cloud of illusions that prevent us from recognizing the Light that is eternally shining in the now moment.

When we let go of our attachment to the past, we open our mind to receive Christ’s vision to see past the clouds. Our mind is lit with the Light of Love that shines away the past. We welcome the Love that keeps us eternally united with God and all His Creation.

Bringing Heaven’s Light to the World

Let not my world obscure the sight of Christ.

I can obscure my holy sight, if I intrude my world upon it. ²Nor can I behold the holy sights Christ looks upon, unless it is His vision that I use. ³Perception is a mirror, not a fact. ⁴And what I look on is my state of mind, reflected outward. ⁵I would bless the world by looking on it through the eyes of Christ. ⁶And I will look upon the certain signs that all my sins have been forgiven me.

You lead me from the darkness to the light; from sin to holiness. ²Let me forgive, and thus receive salvation for the world. ³It is Your gift, my Father, given me to offer to Your holy Son, that he may find again the memory of You, and of Your Son as You created him. Our perceptions give us direct feedback about our state of mind. Is our mind aligned with the ego thought system of separation? If so, we perceive conflict, lack, loss, depression, fear and guilt. Is our mind in its natural state of alignment with the Mind of God? Then we perceive holiness and innocence, changeless love, joy and peace that cannot be disturbed.

We are always free to turn on the Light of Love by forgiving ourselves for choosing specialness in place of the oneness of our Father’s Love. We have a Guide in our mind Whose sole purpose is to guide us out of the darkness into the Light of Heaven, our Home. Today we choose to accept His vision to release the world from our vain imaginings.

Remembering Our True Identity Is Love

The ego and the spirit do not know each other. ²The separated mind cannot maintain the separation except by dissociating. ³Having done this, it denies all truly natural impulses, not because the ego is a separate thing, but because you want to believe that you are. ⁴The ego is a device for maintaining this belief, but it is still only your decision to use the device that enables it to endure.

How can you teach someone the value of something he has deliberately thrown away? ²He must have thrown it away because he did not value it. ³You can only show him how miserable he is without it, and slowly bring it nearer so he can learn how his misery lessens as he approaches it. …⁶I am teaching you to associate misery with the ego and joy with the spirit. Our true Self is always supremely happy. If we do not experience this level of happiness, it is because we are dissociating from our real Identity as God’s Son. Instead, we are identifying with the ego which wants us to believe that we are separate and alone. Unhappiness is inevitable because we are denying the Source of happiness.

We have been given a Guide to help us recognize the consequence of our mistaken identification, and let go of the cause. If we are willing to let Him teach us to recognize the Love that is hidden behind the images of separation, we will find joy in the Love we see surrounding us. We will remember our true Identity as Love.

Accepting the Gift of Christ

The gift of Christ is all I seek today.

“=What but Christ’s vision would I use today, when it can offer me a day in which I see a world so like to Heaven that an ancient memory returns to me? ²Today I can forget the world I made. ³Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace. ⁴Today I am redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.

And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. ²In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. ³We cannot make an offering [illusion] sufficient for Your Son. ⁴But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his. Our Creator has given us the means to recognize the purity of Love that is the truth in everyone. But our wish to have a unique identity that makes us special denies the gift that keeps us forever united with our Father.

When we let go of that denial of our true Identity, we remember we never left the safety of our Home in Heaven. Today we set aside our mistaken wish for specialness and come with an open mind to accept the gift of our Father’s Love. In gratitude we recognize His Love as the truth in everyone.
