Choosing Love’s Oneness in Place of Specialness

I will receive whatever I request.

No one desires pain. ²But he can think that pain is pleasure. ³No one would avoid his happiness. ⁴But he can think that joy is painful, threatening and dangerous. ⁵Everyone will receive what he requests. ⁶But he can be confused indeed about the things he wants; the state he would attain. ⁷What can he then request that he would want when he receives it? ⁸He has asked for what will frighten him, and bring him suffering. ⁹Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may spend this day in fearlessness, without confusing pain with joy, or fear with love.

Father, this is Your day. ²It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do; requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me. (A Course in Miracles, W-339. See also ACIM Lesson 339 Insights.)

We ask for pain and sadness when we value a unique and special identity over our true Identity as Love in the oneness of our Father’s Love. The ego has no friends, although it seeks alliances that support its quest for special status.

We will have the joyous and peaceful day our Father wills for us when we align our minds with the Holy Spirit. He will help us recognize that we remain safe in our Father’s Love. Our true Self shares our Creator’s joy of extending Love without limit. Our true Self is confident that we are never alone because God goes with us wherever we go.

The Choice That Leads to Peace and Happiness

Judgment is but a toy, a whim, the senseless means to play the idle game of death in your imagination. ²But vision sets all things right, bringing them gently within the kindly sway of Heaven’s laws. ³What if you recognized this world is an hallucination? ⁴What if you really understood you made it up? ⁵What if you realized that those who seem to walk about in it, to sin and die, attack and murder and destroy themselves, are wholly unreal? ⁶Could you have faith in what you see, if you accepted this? ⁷And would you see it?

Hallucinations disappear when they are recognized for what they are. ²This is the healing and the remedy. ³Believe them not and they are gone. ⁴And all you need to do is recognize that you did this. ⁵Once you accept this simple fact and take unto yourself the power you gave them, you are released from them. ⁶One thing is sure; hallucinations serve a purpose, and when that purpose is no longer held they disappear. ⁷Therefore, the question never is whether you want them, but always, do you want the purpose that they serve?

Only two purposes are possible. ²And one is sin, the other holiness. ³Nothing is in between, and which you choose determines what you see. ⁴For what you see is merely how you elect to meet your goal. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.VIII.7:1–8:7;9:1-4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

In every moment we choose between two purposes: Do we want to experience separation (sin), or do we want to remember our oneness with Love (holiness). With the choice for separation, we believe we are a body and see the a world of judgment, differences and conflict. When we choose to accept our oneness in God’s Love, we experience the happy joining with our Father’s eternal extension of His Love.

Forgiveness Is the Way to Happiness and Peace

I follow in the way appointed me.

I have a special place to fill; a role for me alone. ²Salvation waits until I take this part as what I choose to do. ³Until I make this choice, I am the slave of time and human destiny. ⁴But when I willingly and gladly go the way my Father’s plan appointed me to go, then will I recognize salvation is already here, already given all my brothers and already mine as well.

Father, Your way is what I choose today. ²Where it would lead me do I choose to go; what it would have me do I choose to do. ³Your way is certain, and the end secure. ⁴The memory of You awaits me there. ⁵And all my sorrows end in Your embrace, which You have promised to Your Son, who thought mistakenly that he had wandered from the sure protection of Your loving Arms. We each have our baggage of beliefs which influence what we perceive. This baggage comes from our wish to be special, different from all others. Our perceptions are distortions of reality which make a veil that hides the presence of Love’s universal oneness.

To return to awareness of our reality as Love, we need to let go of the baggage that keeps us mired in dream of isolation, fear and pain. Our Father has given us a Helper in our mind to help us sort out the baggage and let it go. With its release, we remember we are safe in our Father’s loving Arms.

Our Healing Brings Healing to the World

No miracle can ever be denied to those who know that they are one with God. ²No thought of theirs but has the power to heal all forms of suffering in anyone, in times gone by and times as yet to come, as easily as in the ones who walk beside them now. ³Their thoughts are timeless, and apart from distance as apart from time.

We join in this awareness as we say that we are one with God. ²For in these words we say as well that we are saved and healed; that we can save and heal accordingly. ³We have accepted, and we now would give. ⁴For we would keep the gifts our Father gave. ⁵Today we would experience ourselves at one with Him, so that the world may share our recognition of reality. ⁶In our experience the world is freed. ⁷As we deny our separation from our Father, it is healed along with us.

Peace be to you today. ²Secure your peace by practicing awareness you are one with your Creator, as He is with you. (A Course in Miracles, W-124.6:1–8:2. See also ACIM Lesson 124 Insights.)

There is one single decision we must make that will heal all forms of suffering, all conflict, fears and guilt. It is the decision to accept that we are one with God. It seems to be a hard decision because our mind is divided by the wish for specialness.

Each time we remind ourselves that we are one with God, the divide in our mind is weakened. Our mind becomes more open to the full acceptance of our oneness with our Creator. With acceptance of His gift comes the desire to share His gift of Love with all. As we heal, we bring healing to the world.

Learning from the Teacher of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

Here is the answer to your search for peace. ²Here is the key to meaning in a world that seems to make no sense. ³Here is the way to safety in apparent dangers that appear to threaten you at every turn, and bring uncertainty to all your hopes of ever finding quietness and peace. ⁴Here are all questions answered; here the end of all uncertainty ensured at last.

The unforgiving mind is full of fear, and offers love no room to be itself; no place where it can spread its wings in peace and soar above the turmoil of the world. ²The unforgiving mind is sad,…

Forgiveness is acquired. ²It is not inherent in the mind, which cannot sin. ³As sin is an idea you taught yourself, forgiveness must be learned by you as well, but from a Teacher other than yourself, Who represents the other Self in you. ⁴Through Him you learn how to forgive the self you think you made, and let it disappear. ⁵Thus you return your mind as one to Him Who is your Self, and Who can never sin.

Each unforgiving mind presents you with an opportunity to teach your own how to forgive itself. ²Each one awaits release from hell through you, and turns to you imploringly for Heaven here and now. ³It has no hope, but you become its hope. ⁴And as its hope, do you become your own. ⁵The unforgiving mind must learn through your forgiveness that it has been saved from hell. ⁶And as you teach salvation, you will learn. ⁷Yet all your teaching and your learning will be not of you, but of the Teacher Who was given you to show the way to you. The Holy Spirit represents our true Self; they are one and the same. He was given us to teach us how to forgive the part of our mind that has attempted to separate itself from the Reality of Love.

As we accept Holy Spirit’s help, we teach salvation from the denial of Love’s Reality. As we teach His lessons in forgiveness, we learn that we are forgiven. We remember we are in Heaven now, along with all our brothers.

Gratitude for Our Brothers’ Gifts

Dream softly of your sinless brother, who unites with you in holy innocence. ²And from this dream the Lord of Heaven will Himself awaken His beloved Son. ³Dream of your brother’s kindnesses instead of dwelling in your dreams on his mistakes. ⁴Select his thoughtfulness to dream about instead of counting up the hurts he gave. ⁵Forgive him his illusions, and give thanks to him for all the helpfulness he gave. ⁶And do not brush aside his many gifts because he is not perfect in your dreams. ⁷He represents his Father, Whom you see as offering both life and death to you.

Brother, He gives but life. ²Yet what you see as gifts your brother offers represent the gifts you dream your Father gives to you. ³Let all your brother’s gifts be seen in light of charity and kindness offered you. ⁴And let no pain disturb your dream of deep appreciation for his gifts to you. The ego appreciates nothing. It always judges everything it perceives. It only ‘appreciates’ what it perceives supports its mission to maintain special status. But always with reservations, fearful that what it likes may turn against it in any moment.

But our true Self has full appreciation for the Love it sees in every brother, recognizing it as one with Itself. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can replace our dreams of judgment and alienation with dreams of forgiveness for perceptions of differences. Forgiving dreams see the kindness and helpfulness in our brother and overlook perceived imperfections. We live in gratitude for the loving gifts our bothers bring to us.

Happiness Comes with Accepting Our True Identity

Light and joy and peace abide in me.

²I am the home of light and joy and peace. ³I welcome them into the home I share with God, because I am a part of Him.

I am as God created me.

²I will remain forever as I was, created by the Changeless like Himself. ³And I am one with Him, and He with me. (A Course in Miracles, W-112.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 112 Insights.)

It is time to let go of our dissociation with our Father. It is costing our Light, our joy and our peace. God is the Source of all our meaning. Deny the meaning He has given us, and we are left with meaningless hallucinations that come and go with empty whims.

Accept that we were created by Love as Love’s extension, and happiness and peace are restored to our troubled mind. Love is our Identity, now and forever. In gratitude we join in the free flow of receiving and giving Love to all without limit.
