Letting Love’s Light Transform Our Mind

⁴Let us raise our hearts from dust to life, as we remember this is promised us, and that this course was sent to open up the path of light to us, and teach us, step by step, how to return to the eternal Self we thought we lost.

I take the journey with you. ²For I share your doubts and fears a little while, that you may come to me who recognize the road by which all fears and doubts are overcome. ³We walk together. ⁴I must understand uncertainty and pain, although I know they have no meaning. ⁵Yet a savior must remain with those he teaches, seeing what they see, but still retaining in his mind the way that led him out, and now will lead you out with him. ⁶God’s Son is crucified until you walk along the road with me.

My resurrection comes again each time I lead a brother safely to the place at which the journey ends and is forgot. ²I am renewed each time a brother learns there is a way from misery and pain. ³I am reborn each time a brother’s mind turns to the light in him and looks for me. ⁴I have forgotten no one. ⁵Help me now to lead you back to where the journey was begun, to make another choice with me. We have a mighty Companion who walks with as we make our way along the path of Light that leads to the full remembrance of our true Identity as Love. He is our elder Brother who understands our confusion caused by choosing specialness over the oneness of Love. He is a Teacher in our minds, helping us to recognize illusions and let them go.

Today we express our gratitude for His help. We share the blessings we experience as we open to the Light in our mind. The Light transforms our mind as we embrace our brothers who we recognize as our one Self, united with our Creator.

The Gift We Give Ourselves and the World

⁶You make what you defend against, and by your own defense against it is it real and inescapable. ⁷Lay down your arms, and only then do you perceive it false.

The choice you make today is certain. ²For you look for the last time upon this bit of carven stone you made, and call it god no longer. …⁶And you return to a new world, unburdened by its weight; beheld not in its sightless eyes, but in the vision that your choice restored to you.

Now do your eyes belong to Christ, and He looks through them. ²Now your voice belongs to God and echoes His. ³And now your heart remains at peace forever. (A Course in Miracles, W-170.2:6-7;11:1-2,6–12:3. See also ACIM Lesson 170 Insights.)

The body is an illusion, and its eyes can only see illusions. We are being taught to not give credence to what it is seen with the its eyes because they see nothing real. As we learn to forgive what we see in the world, we let go of our defenses against the eternal presence of our Father’s Love.

Christ sees through forgiving eyes. His vision shows us the universe of Love and that Love is our one Identity, shared with every brother and our Father. We rest in the certainty of Love’s changelessness. This is the gift our forgiveness gives ourselves and the world.

Accepting the Love That Unites Us with All

Grace is acceptance of the Love of God within a world of seeming hate and fear. ²By grace alone the hate and fear are gone, for grace presents a state so opposite to everything the world contains, that those whose minds are lighted by the gift of grace can not believe the world of fear is real.

Oneness is simply the idea God is. ²And in His Being, He encompasses all things. ³No mind holds anything but Him. ⁴We say “God is,” and then we cease to speak, for in that knowledge words are meaningless. ⁵There are no lips to speak them, and no part of mind sufficiently distinct to feel that it is now aware of something not itself. ⁶It has united with its Source. ⁷And like its Source Itself, it merely is.

³What is the face of Christ but his who went a moment into timelessness, and brought a clear reflection of the unity he felt an instant back to bless the world?

Be grateful to return, as you were glad to go an instant, and accept the gifts that grace provided you.

³By grace I live. ⁴By grace I am released.

The wish for specialness denies the Love of God. But when we accept His Love, the ego’s propensity to judge is neutralized. Perceptions of differences have faded into the nothingness of from which they came. We know that we remain united with our Father in His Love.

We look on every brother with grace, recognizing our unity with him in the reality of Love. We live in the eternal giving and receiving of Love.

Letting Go of Our Barriers to Love’s Presence

The Thought of God surrounds your little kingdom, waiting at the barrier you built to come inside and shine upon the barren ground. ²See how life springs up everywhere! ³The desert becomes a garden, green and deep and quiet, offering rest to those who lost their way and wander in the dust. ⁴Give them a place of refuge, prepared by love for them where once a desert was. ⁵And everyone you welcome will bring love with him from Heaven for you. ⁶They enter one by one into this holy place, but they will not depart as they had come, alone. ⁷The love they brought with them will stay with them, as it will stay with you. ⁸And under its beneficence your little garden will expand, and reach out to everyone who thirsts for living water, but has grown too weary to go on alone.

Go out and find them, for they bring your Self with them. ²And lead them gently to your quiet garden, and receive their blessing there. ³So will it grow and stretch across the desert, leaving no lonely little kingdoms locked away from love, and leaving you inside. ⁴And you will recognize yourself, and see your little garden gently transformed into the Kingdom of Heaven, with all the Love of its Creator shining upon it.

The holy instant is your invitation to love to enter into your bleak and joyless kingdom, and to transform it into a garden of peace and welcome. (A Course in Miracles, T-18.VIII.9:1–11:1. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Only Love is real. This is the central message of A Course in Miracles. A perception of anything that is different from Love’s oneness is a sure sign that we are dreaming a dream that could never be true. It is a projection of the wish for specialness that is in opposition to Love.

Beyond the projections, Love remains unaltered, ever present, waiting only to be accepted into the mind created by the one Mind of Love. In every moment we are welcome Home. We need only forgive our judgments to let projections fall away, and reveal the Love that is our Self, united with all in the Love of our Father.

Forgiveness Is the Choice to Be Happy

²From my holiness does the perception of the real world come. ³Having forgiven, I no longer see myself as guilty. ⁴I can accept the innocence that is the truth about me. ⁵Seen through understanding eyes, the holiness of the world is all I see, for I can picture only the thoughts I hold about myself.

²The perception of my holiness does not bless me alone. ³Everyone and everything I see in its light shares in the joy it brings to me. ⁴There is nothing that is apart from this joy, because there is nothing that does not share my holiness.

²My holiness is unlimited in its power to heal, because it is unlimited in its power to save. ³What is there to be saved from except illusions? ⁴And what are all illusions except false ideas about myself?

³I am blessed as a Son of God. ⁴All good things are mine, because God intended them for me. ⁵I cannot suffer any loss or deprivation or pain because of Who I am. ⁶My Father supports me, protects me, and directs me in all things. ⁷His care for me is infinite, and is with me forever. ⁸I am eternally blessed as His Son. Forgiveness is the key to happiness. When we judge anything or anyone, we are telling ourselves that, if what we judge would change, it would make us happy, or at least less fearful. Yet there is nothing to judge in the reality of Love’s oneness. Only illusions we have made to cover over Love’s presence is causing us to be unhappy, fearful or guilty.

Today we choose happiness by letting go of our judgments. With an open mind, we let Holy Spirit’s vision to show us the Love that surrounds us and dwells in us. We are God’s Love, now and forever, united with Him. We welcome this vision today and it will be a joyous day indeed.

Remembering Our Will Is to Be Only Love

²The world I see holds my fearful self-image in place, and guarantees its continuance. ³While I see the world as I see it now, truth cannot enter my awareness. ⁴I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God.

²Behind every image I have made, the truth remains unchanged. ³Behind every veil I have drawn across the face of love, its light remains undimmed. ⁴Beyond all my insane wishes is my will, united with the Will of my Father. ⁵God is still everywhere and in everything forever. ⁶And we who are part of Him will yet look past all appearances, and recognize the truth beyond them all.

²In my own mind, behind all my insane thoughts of separation and attack, is the knowledge that all is one forever. ³I have not lost the knowledge of Who I am because I have forgotten it. ⁴It has been kept for me in the Mind of God, Who has not left His Thoughts. ⁵And I, who am among them, am one with them and one with Him. All appearances we perceive in the world are reflections of our beliefs about ourselves. The belief that it is possible to be separate and different from anything requires that we perceive a world outside of our ‘identity’. The body’s mechanism for ‘seeing’ can only see differences. Thus the body’s perceptions make a veil that blocks awareness of our oneness with the Love that created us one with Himself.

To dispel this veil, we need to accept the help of the Holy Spirit to use Christ’s vision to see past appearances to the presence of God’s Love everywhere. The eternal Love that created us remains one with us, no matter what insane beliefs we have accepted. Our Reality is Love and nothing else. As we perceive the images of the world today, we remind ourselves that we remain one with all Love. Our will is to be only Love.

Being Receptive to the Holy Spirit’s Lead

To do anything involves the body. ²And if you recognize you need do nothing, you have withdrawn the body’s value from your mind. ³Here is the quick and open door through which you slip past centuries of effort, and escape from time. ⁴This is the way in which sin loses all attraction right now. ⁵For here is time denied, and past and future gone. ⁶Who needs do nothing has no need for time. ⁷To do nothing is to rest, and make a place within you where the activity of the body ceases to demand attention. ⁸Into this place the Holy Spirit comes, and there abides. ⁹He will remain when you forget, and the body’s activities return to occupy your conscious mind.

Yet there will always be this place of rest to which you can return. ²And you will be more aware of this quiet center of the storm than all its raging activity. ³This quiet center, in which you do nothing, will remain with you, giving you rest in the midst of every busy doing on which you are sent. ⁴For from this center will you be directed how to use the body sinlessly. ⁵It is this center, from which the body is absent, that will keep it so in your awareness of it. To open our mind to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we need to pause and let the body rest. We need to withdraw our attention we give to the body, and rest in the quiet peace within. In this quiet rest, the ego’s barriers to Love’s oneness are softened. We let the Holy Spirit in.

With consistent practice of pausing to step back from our attention on the body’s activity, it becomes easier to open to the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love. Our receptivity to His lead increases. We trust in His guidance in the midst of our daily activity to serve as Love’s messenger in all our doing.
