Today Is for Mind Healing

How lovely is the world whose purpose is forgiveness of God’s Son! How free from fear, how filled with blessing and with happiness! And what a joyous thing it is to dwell a little while in such a happy place! Nor can it be forgot, in such a world, it is a little while till timelessness comes quietly to take the place of time. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.VI.6)

Today we open our minds to the healing blessings of the Holy Spirit… Today we step back and forgive the world for all we ever thought it was… Today we let the Holy Spirit be in charge of our thoughts… We see innocence where we once saw guilt… We see peace where we once saw conflict… We gently pass by all thoughts of being separate and alone… We use today to remember we are one with with every brother in God’s Love. We are so grateful that today is for mind healing.

Making Way for a New Way of Seeing

Whenever we have an apprehension or perceived problem, the ego is quick to respond to offer a fix. It looks to past learning as the basis to build a seeming solution that is still just another illusion which it offers as a substitute for the situation we are perceiving. Yet this is not a real solution because it is just an exchange of illusions. The Course is teaching us that we need to do the opposite.

The lynchpin that opens our minds to a real solution is the acceptance of the fact that we do not know what anything means. With this recognition we turn our backs on the ego and look outside the ego thought system to the Holy Spirit, our true Self, for true meaning.

Today our practice is to be mindful of when we have shifted into the ego’s “fix it” mode and step back. This is an opportunity to redirect our attention to the Holy Spirit, Who will offer us true release by helping us withdraw our mistaken beliefs in the forms of the world.

This is the practice of forgiveness, of letting go of the past as a means to interpret the appearances of the present. It makes way for a new way of seeing. It sees the unity that we are part of along with all our brothers. It shows us the safety of changeless Love that is our Home.

Forgiveness Relieves the Burden of Guilt

Forgiveness, properly understood, looks upon all things and judges not. It recognizes all judgment as meaningless. To judge is to condemn, and to condemn is to attack. To forgive is to refuse all condemnation, to lay down all attack. Forgiveness sees the Truth in all and offers each a miracle of Love. It cannot do otherwise for that is its function, given unto you that you might offer it to all and thereby receive it for yourself. The forgiven offer only forgiveness to their brothers, for the mind free of guilt can offer only what it has received. To heal the guilt in your mind is to release the world from the burden of guilt you have laid upon it. The guiltless see only innocence everywhere, for they see truly. (From the Christ Mind, p. 51)

To see anyone or anything as separate from ourselves is to condemn them and ourselves to isolation and lovelessness. Love is unified, whole and indivisible. Belief that separation is real is the denial of our unity in Love. With this belief guilt is inevitable, for it is seen as an attack upon Love.

Yet what is indivisible cannot be attacked. So experiencing a world of separate images is simply a projection of a belief in what could never be real. This projection makes the illusion of reality but has no effect whatsoever on the unity of Love. This illusion carries with it the inevitable burden of guilt because we unconsciously believe we have really damaged the unity of Love. The release from this guilt is forgiveness.

As we practice reminding ourselves that the forms we see in the world are false images and beyond them is nothing but Love, the seeming impenetrability of the world fades. The veil is lifted through forgiveness. We see a forgiven world, free of condemnation and the experience of the unity, safety and joy of Love returns to our awareness. We are relieved of the burden of guilt and remember that we are in Heaven now.

We Don’t Need to Defend Against Illusions

Forget not, when you feel the need arise to be defensive about anything, you have identified yourself with an illusion. And therefore feel that you are weak because you are alone. This is the cost of all illusions. Not one but rests on the belief that you are separate. …For it is your unwillingness to overlook what seems to stand between you and your brother that makes it look impenetrable, and defends the illusion of its immovability. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.V.6:1-4,8)

Today our practice is to remember that what we are seeing through the body’s eyes is illusion. What we see and the meaning we give it is coming from our mind. The body itself is an illusion and can only show us illusions.

Today we let the Holy Spirit help us see past illusions to the truth that only Love is there. With this comes the remembrance that we need not defend against illusions. In truth we are safe, we are innocent, we are loved, we are Home. There is nothing to fear. This awareness comes as we practice remembering that we don’t need to defend against illusions.

Accepting the Love That Is Eternally Given

Each day a thousand treasures come to me with every passing moment. I am blessed with gifts throughout the day, in value far beyond all things of which I can conceive.

I thank You, Father, for the many gifts that come to me today and every day from every Son of God. My brothers are unlimited in all their gifts to me. Now may I offer them my thankfulness, that gratitude to them may lead me on to my Creator and His memory. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.315.1:1-2;2:1-3)

Today we live in a state of gratitude, remembering we are being showered with blessings — extensions of Love — throughout the day. Our minds are united in Love, so we are included in every expression of Love by every brother.

We welcome these gifts of Love through forgiveness, letting of our judgments that interfere with our awareness of Love’s Presence.

Heaven Goes With Us

Whenever you feel fear in any form,—and you are fearful if you do not feel a deep content, a certainty of help, a calm assurance Heaven goes with you,—be sure you made an idol, and believe it will betray you.

Forgiving dreams remind you that you live in safety and have not attacked yourself. …Forgiving dreams are kind to everyone who figures in the dream. And so they bring the dreamer full release from dreams of fear. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.IX.9:1;10:1,3-4)

I woke up last night and made up a story of conflict in my mind. I thought of scenarios and means I could use to defend myself. These definitely were not thoughts of contentment and safety. Looking at it now it is laughable that I would entertain this made up story that had no basis, even in seeming events in the world. It was a good example to show me how my thoughts affect my experience.

The Course is teaching us that we do not have to be limited to these thoughts. We are always free to choose a better way. We are always free to choose a Guide Whose only motivation is to extend Love. In truth, that is our only true motivation as well. Our true Self is an extension of Love and Its only desire is to keep that extension going. Thoughts of judgment, fear, conflict and guilt are simply childish toys that no longer serve us.

With the practice of aligning our minds with the Holy Spirit, we learn these toys have no substance and no meaning. As we forgive, we lay down these toys of judgment. This is how we make way for the experience of the calm assurance that Heaven goes with us.

Answering Love’s Call

Every obstacle that peace must flow across is surmounted in just the same way; the fear that raised it yields to the love beyond, and so the fear is gone. …The desire to get rid of peace and drive the Holy Spirit from you fades in the presence of the quiet recognition that you love Him. The exaltation of the body is given up in favor of the spirit, which you love as you could never love the body. And the appeal of death is lost forever as love’s attraction stirs and calls to you. From beyond each of the obstacles to love, Love Itself has called.” (A Course in Miracles, T-19.IV.D.5:1,3-6)

Love calls to us ceaselessly. Our Father calls eternally for His Son to return Home. As we answer the call, fear dissolves. The Light of Love shines away the shadows of fear. The veil is lifted. 

Today our highest purpose is to become aware of Love’s Call and extend the Love we receive to every brother. This is our practice today.
