How to Learn Everything

Those who remember always that they know nothing, and who have become willing to learn everything, will learn it. But whenever they trust themselves, they will not learn. They have destroyed their motivation for learning by thinking they already know. Think not you understand anything until you pass the test of perfect peace, for peace and understanding go together and never can be found alone. Each brings the other with it, for it is the law of God they be not separate. They are cause and effect, each to the other, so where one is absent the other cannot be.

Whenever you think you know, peace will depart from you, because you have abandoned the Teacher of peace. Whenever you fully realize that you know not, peace will return, for you will have invited Him to do so by abandoning the ego on behalf of Him. Call not upon the ego for anything; it is only this that you need do. The Holy Spirit will, of Himself, fill every mind that so makes room for Him. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.XI.12,13:3-6. When we choose to believe that we are a separate identity, our awareness of our connection with our Creator is blocked. God’s Love and peace are unknown to us, though they are ever present. To know God’s peace, we must let go of the denial of our oneness with God.

The ego cannot teach us about oneness, being the denial of unity. But we have been given another Teacher, Who is not deceived by the false beliefs of the ego. This Teacher is always with us and we remember His presence by accepting peace. We open to this peace by letting go of thinking we know what anything means.

The practice of turning to the Holy Spirit as our Guide in all things will lead us Home to the full recognition of our innate peace. We will remember that we are Love, along with all our brothers. There is no distance between us. We are one and the flow of Love joins us together eternally.

Letting Go of Thinking We Already Know

When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way, say to yourself:
I do not know what anything, including this, means. And so I do not know how to respond to it. And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now.

By this refusal to attempt to teach yourself what you do not know, the Guide Whom God has given you will speak to you. He will take His rightful place in your awareness the instant you abandon [your past learning], and offer it to Him.

It is only because you think that you can run some little part, or deal with certain aspects of your life alone, that the guidance of the Holy Spirit is limited. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.XI.6:6-11;8:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

In any now moment we are choosing between following the ego thought system or following the Holy Spirit, our inner Teacher. If we are not in peace, we have chosen the ego and are trying to use our past learning as our guide.

As we consistently practice opening to our true Self, the feeling of angst will be replaced by peace. The darkness disappears when we let the Holy Spirit be in charge of our mind. In this happy place, the Holy Spirit brings what is need to our awareness in order to be truly helpful. Our trust in the Holy Spirit is strengthened and ego thoughts fade into the nothingness from which they came.

Choosing peace is the same as choosing our inner Teacher to be our Guide. As we continue practicing, our trust in our inner Teacher grows stronger day by day. We learn to laugh at fear thoughts as we see the ego thoughts for what they are instead of giving them power by believing in them.

Today we rejoice by remembering that we do not know what anything means and consistently choose the Guide That brings us peace and understanding. We are grateful for the miracles of true perception we receive from the Holy Spirit.
