The Exchange That Brings Joy and Peace

³Our emphasis is not on giving up the world, but on exchanging it for what is far more satisfying, filled with joy, and capable of offering you peace.

Is it a loss to find a world instead where losing is impossible; where love endures forever, hate cannot exist and vengeance has no meaning? ²Is it loss to find all things you really want, and know they have no ending and they will remain exactly as you want them throughout time?

⁴Value them [the things of this world] not, and they will disappear. ⁵Esteem them, and they will seem real to you.

Such is the choice. ²What loss can be for you in choosing not to value nothingness? ³This world holds nothing that you really want, but what you choose instead you want indeed! ⁴Let it be given you today. ⁵It waits but for your choosing it, to take the place of all the things you seek but do not want.

³Beyond this world there is a world I want. ⁴I choose to see that world instead of this, for here is nothing that I really want. (A Course in Miracles, W-129.1:3;3:1-2;5:4-5;6;7:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 129 Insights.)

While we identify with the ego, we experience a world of lack, loss and limitation. We constantly search for something to replace the loss, fill the lack or make us feel less limited.

But we have been given a world in which we have all we truly need eternally and without limit. We only need to choose to accept this gift. It is already ours, now. It is all we really want. We always have the option to exchange the mistaken values of the ego for the only real value of the limitless Love of our true Self.

Embracing the Love We Are

Awaking unto Christ is following the laws of love of your free will, and out of quiet recognition of the truth in them. ²The attraction of light must draw you willingly, and willingness is signified by giving. …⁴In sleep you are alone, and your awareness is narrowed to yourself. ⁵And that is why the nightmares come. ⁶You dream of isolation because your eyes are closed. ⁷You do not see your brothers, and in the darkness you cannot look upon the light you gave to them.

And yet the laws of love are not suspended because you sleep. ²And you have followed them through all your nightmares, and have been faithful in your giving, for you were not alone. ³Even in sleep has Christ protected you, ensuring the real world for you when you awake. ⁴In your name He [Christ] has given for you, and given you the gifts He gave. ⁵God’s Son is still as loving as his Father. ⁶Continuous with his Father, he has no past apart from Him. ⁷So he has never ceased to be his Father’s witness and his own. ⁸Although he slept, Christ’s vision did not leave him. ⁹And so it is that he can call unto himself the witnesses that teach him that he never slept. The perception of a past is the effect of identifying with the ego. The ego uses the past as the basis for all judgments, which make fear and guilt appear real. This could only be true if had actually succeeded in separating from our Creator.

But the laws of the Love that created us remain unaffected by our dream that we have made a world where we are alone and autonomous. We are eternally free to awaken from the dream by accepting and giving Love.

As we acknowledge the Love that is the reality of every brother, we awaken to the Love that is our Identity. Our true Identity has never changed. We have always been one with the eternal extension of the Love that created us. Today we embrace the Love we are with gratitude and joy.

Recognizing the Unreality of Our Dreams

The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness.

²My forgiveness is the means by which the light of the world finds expression through me. ³My forgiveness is the means by which I become aware of the light of the world in me. ⁴My forgiveness is the means by which the world is healed, together with myself. ⁵Let me, then, forgive the world, that it may be healed along with me.

Suggestions for specific forms for applying this idea are:

²Let peace extend from my mind to yours, [name].
³I share the light of the world with you, [name].
⁴Through my forgiveness I can see this as it is. (A Course in Miracles, W-82.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 82 Insights.)

When we dream, the situation and figures in the dream seem very real. When we wake up, we realize it was just a dream. We dismiss the experience, knowing nothing in the dream really happened.

The world we experience as a body is a dream made by the ego. We forgive the dream as we realize that nothing that appears to happen actually occurs. We freely dismiss the experience as we awaken to the fact that the dream had no effect on our reality. Forgiveness is a powerful tool that frees us from our dreams of limitation, littleness, and vulnerability.

The Holy Spirit is in our mind with the sole purpose helping us recognize that our dreams are not real. While we believe we are in the dream, it does seem real. We need His help from beyond the dream to overlook its seeming effects and awaken to the fact that we are united with our Creator in the oneness of His Love.

The Practice That Awakens Us to Love

⁶One is given you to see in him his perfect sinlessness. ⁷And you will ask no sacrifice of him because you could not will he suffer loss. ⁸The miracle of justice you call forth will rest on you as surely as on him.

Think, then, how great your own release will be when you are willing to receive correction for all your problems. ²You will not keep one, for pain in any form you will not want. ³And you will see each little hurt resolved before the Holy Spirit’s gentle sight. ⁴For all of them _are_ little in His sight, and worth no more than just a tiny sigh before they disappear, to be forever undone and unremembered. ⁵What seemed once to be a special problem, a mistake without a remedy, or an affliction without a cure, has been transformed into a universal blessing. ⁶Sacrifice is gone. ⁷And in its place the Love of God can be remembered, and will shine away all memory of sacrifice and loss.

⁴Your special function opens wide the door beyond which is the memory of His Love kept perfectly intact and undefiled. ⁵And all you need to do is but to wish that Heaven be given you instead of hell, and every bolt and barrier that seems to hold the door securely barred and locked will merely fall away and disappear. ⁶For it is not your Father’s Will that you should offer or receive less than He gave, when He created you in perfect love. Our special function is to see the innocence in every brother. What we see in our brother is a reflection of what we believe about ourselves. Thus when we forgive a brother and see his innocence, we forgive ourselves. As we forgive, we join with our Creator’s Will to be the Love we were created to be. We join in the oneness of Love.

As we practice our special function, we heal our mind of mistaken beliefs that have hidden our true Self from our awareness. This practice leads us Home to Love.

Taking Christ’s Hand to Follow Him Home

The Christ in you is very still. ²He knows where you are going, and He leads you there in gentleness and blessing all the way. ³His Love for God replaces all the fear you thought you saw within yourself.

⁶His perfect lack of specialness He offers you, that you may save all living things from death, receiving from each one the gift of life that your forgiveness offers to your Self. ⁷The sight of Christ is all there is to see. ⁸The song of Christ is all there is to hear. ⁹The hand of Christ is all there is to hold. ¹⁰There is no journey but to walk with Him.

You who would be content with specialness, and seek salvation in a war with love, consider this: The holy Lord of Heaven has Himself come down to you, to offer you your own completion. ²What is His is yours because in your completion is His Own. ³He Who willed not to be without His Son could never will that you be brotherless. ⁴And would He give a brother unto you except he be as perfect as yourself, and just as like to Him in holiness as you must be?

⁴[Christ] will exchange His certainty for all your doubts, if you agree that He is One with you, and that this Oneness is endless, timeless, and within your grasp because your hands are His. (A Course in Miracles, T-24.V.6:1-3;7:6–8:4;9:4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The truth in every brother is the truth in our Self. That Self is the Son of God which unites us with every brother. The Christ within knows of our unity and sees only that unity in Love.  As we let the Christ in us lead us Home, we recognize the innocence in everyone.

Christ has no wish for specialness. He shares His oneness with all. As we let Him lead the way, we bring holiness to the world to heal thoughts of fear and guilt. Today we welcome Christ’s lead as we take His hand, accept His vision, and follow Him back to a full recognition of our oneness with our Creator and every brother.

The Only Purpose That Leads to Heaven

The real world is the state of mind in which the only purpose of the world is seen to be forgiveness. ²Fear is not its goal, for the escape from guilt becomes its aim. ³The value of forgiveness is perceived and takes the place of idols, which are sought no longer, for their “gifts” are not held dear. ⁴No rules are idly set, and no demands are made of anyone or anything to twist and fit into the dream of fear. ⁵Instead, there is a wish to understand all things created as they really are. ⁶And it is recognized that all things must be first forgiven, and then understood.

⁷The world becomes a place of hope, because its only purpose is to be a place where hope of happiness can be fulfilled. ⁸And no one stands outside this hope, because the world has been united in belief the purpose of the world is one which all must share, if hope be more than just a dream.

Not yet is Heaven quite remembered, for the purpose of forgiveness still remains. ²Yet everyone is certain he will go beyond forgiveness, and he but remains until it is made perfect in himself.

²The real world is a state in which the mind has learned how easily do idols go when they are still perceived but wanted not. ³How willingly the mind can let them go when it has understood that idols are nothing and nowhere, and are purposeless. ⁴For only then can guilt and sin be seen without a purpose, and as meaningless.

Thus is the real world’s purpose gently brought into awareness, to replace the goal of sin and guilt. ²And all that stood between your image of yourself and what you are, forgiveness washes joyfully away. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.V.1;2:7–3:2;5:2–6:2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

At its core, the only thought that needs forgiveness is the wish for specialness — the wish to have something we alone possess as a unique identity. This wish takes many forms in the ego’s dream. But as we recognize these idols have no substance, no value, we easily let them go.

With this release, our mind is freed to see the reality of Love that keeps us eternally united with our Creator. Thus forgiveness reunites us with every brother. This unity is all that we value. Awareness of our oneness brings peace and joy with it. There no longer is cause for conflict. And we experience the joy of sharing the eternal flow of Love.

Remembering We Are One with God

No miracle can ever be denied to those who know that they are one with God. ²No thought of theirs but has the power to heal all forms of suffering in anyone, in times gone by and times as yet to come, as easily as in the ones who walk beside them now. ³Their thoughts are timeless, and apart from distance as apart from time.

We join in this awareness as we say that we are one with God. ²For in these words we say as well that we are saved and healed; that we can save and heal accordingly. ³We have accepted, and we now would give. ⁴For [by giving] we would keep the gifts our Father gave. ⁵Today we would experience ourselves at one with Him, so that the world may share our recognition of reality. ⁶In our experience the world is freed. ⁷As we deny our separation from our Father, it is healed along with us.

Peace be to you today. ²Secure your peace by practicing awareness you are one with your Creator, as He is with you. (A Course in Miracles, W-124.6:1–8:2. See also ACIM Lesson 124 Insights.)

Our identification with the body as our identity is a barrier that makes us unaware that we remain one with God. When we remind ourselves that we are not a body, we open our mind to awareness of our oneness with our Creator.

In this awareness, we accept His gifts of Love, peace and joy. The acceptance becomes our experience when we offer these gifts to every brother. We are together one as God’s one Son in the Mind of Love that is our Creator. This shift in awareness is the only meaningful purpose every day.
