Remembering Our True Self Is Love

Now would I be as God created me.

Today I will accept the truth about myself. ²I will arise in glory, and allow the light in me to shine upon the world throughout the day. ³I bring the world the tidings of salvation which I hear as God my Father speaks to me. ⁴And I behold the world that Christ would have me see, aware it ends the bitter dream of death; aware it is my Father’s Call to me.

Christ is my eyes today, and He the ears that listen to the Voice for God today. ²Father, I come to You through Him Who is Your Son, and my true Self as well. ³Amen. (A Course in Miracles, W-237. See also ACIM Lesson 237 Insights.)

As God’s creation, our true Self is Love and nothing else. We are not a body. We are not different from our Father or any brother in truth. This is the Self we are called to accept. With that acceptance comes peace and joy.

As we listen to God’s Voice, we are reminded that we share our one Self with every brother. In that sharing, we remember the Love we are. We remember Love, which does not judge nor condemn. It only gives the Love It is to extend God’s creation.

Opening Our Mind to Love’s Presence

…[God] wills the happiness His Son inherited of Him be undisturbed; eternal and forever gaining scope, eternally expanding in the joy of full creation, and eternally open and wholly limitless in Him.

⁴God does not perceive at all. ⁵Yet it is He Who gives the means by which perception is made true and beautiful enough to let the light of Heaven shine upon it.

These are the lessons God would have you learn. …⁵They are the same in fundamental content. ⁶It is this:

⁷Forgive, and you will see this differently.

Certain it is that all distress does not appear to be but unforgiveness. ²Yet that is the content underneath the form. (A Course in Miracles, W-193.1:2;2:4-5;3:1,5-7;4:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 193 Insights.)

Perception is only needed when separation is accepted as real. This is why forgiving our perceptions is required to restore our awareness to the one Love we are. It is a very simple step. It only seems difficult because of the myriad forms the ego uses to hide the simple fact that perceptions are not real.

This is why all things are lessons God would have us learn. Every perception is used by the ego to support belief in separation. But perceptions can be given a different purpose. Offered to the Holy Spirit, perceptions become a means to forgive our investment in belief in separation.

Each perception forgiven opens our mind to receive the gift of Love God gave us in our creation as His one Son. As we forgive, the barrier to Love’s presence is weakened and Love’s Light is allowed to shine through.

Throughout today we remind ourselves that we can accept the Holy Spirit’s help to forgive our perceptions and see the presence of Love.

Letting Love’s Oneness Replace Artificial Values

Perception is consistent. ²What you see reflects your thinking. ³And your thinking but reflects your choice of what you want to see. ⁴Your values are determiners of this, for what you value you must want to see, believing what you see is really there. ⁵No one can see a world his mind has not accorded value. ⁶And no one can fail to look upon what he believes he wants.

Fear has made everything you think you see. ²All separation, all distinctions, and the multitude of differences you believe make up the world. ³They are not there. ⁴Love’s enemy has made them up. ⁵Yet love can have no enemy, and so they have no cause, no being and no consequence. ⁶They can be valued, but remain unreal.

It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. ²Seek for the one; the other disappears. ³But one remains. ⁴They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. ⁵The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.

⁵It is impossible to see two worlds. ⁶Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.

God will be there. ²For you have called upon the great unfailing power which will take this giant step with you in gratitude. ³Nor will you fail to see His thanks expressed in tangible perception and in truth. (A Course in Miracles, W-130.1;4:1-6;5;8:5–9:3. See also ACIM Lesson 130 Insights.)

When we value a unique identity, we are unaware of the reality of Love’s oneness. Artificial values must conflict in order to define images of differences. These images block our awareness of Love’s Presence.

Aș we let go of these values we open to the peace and joy that is our true nature. Today we offer all our judgments to the Holy Spirit for His reinterpretation. He will show us the Light of Love beyond the appearances we have judged. In that Light we will remember the joy of being held eternally in the Love of God.

Recognizing Our Unity in Love

The ego does constant battle with the Holy Spirit on the fundamental question of what your function is. ²So does it do constant battle with the Holy Spirit about what your happiness is. ³It is not a two-way battle. ⁴The ego attacks and the Holy Spirit does not respond. ⁵He knows what your function is. ⁶He knows that it is your happiness.

…God has given you your function. ²We have seen that there are only two parts of your mind. ³One is ruled by the ego, and is made up of illusions. ⁴The other is the home of the Holy Spirit, where truth abides. ⁵There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it.

Thus, it must be that your function is established by God through His Voice, or is made by the ego which you have made to replace Him.

You will listen to madness or hear the truth.

Everyone in the world is on a quest for happiness. Most seek for it where it cannot be found — in the illusion of forms and separation. In this illusion, having something we can call our own is what we believe will bring us happiness. Yet because these forms are not real, they never satisfy nor last. They only lead to disappointment in the end.

But we have another Guide Who knows our true function, which will bring us lasting happiness. This Guide lives in the part of our mind that knows only Love is real. The Holy Spirit will guide us to help us let go of our futile quest. As we pay attention to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we learn that the happiness we seek is already ours.

Today we choose to seek happiness by following the Holy Spirit’s lead. He will show us the Love we are, reflected in everyone one we meet or think of. We will see that we are unified in God’s Love.

Choosing the Holy Spirit’s Purpose

²I have judged everything I look upon, and it is this and only this I see. ³This is not vision. ⁴It is merely an illusion of reality, because my judgments have been made quite apart from reality. ⁵I am willing to recognize the lack of validity in my judgments, because I want to see. ⁶My judgments have hurt me, and I do not want to see according to them.

³What I see is the projection of my own errors of thought.

³What I call “my” thoughts are not my real thoughts. ⁴My real thoughts are the thoughts I think with God. ⁵I am not aware of them because I have made my thoughts to take their place. ⁶I am willing to recognize that my thoughts do not mean anything, and to let them go. ⁷I choose to have them be replaced by what they were intended to replace. ⁸My thoughts are meaningless, but all creation lies in the thoughts I think with God. The ego’s purpose for the world we see is to reinforce our belief that we are separate bodies, separate individuals, with different interests. It shows us a world of vulnerability, conflict and loss.

The Holy Spirit uses what we see for a different purpose. As we are willing to bring our judgments to the Holy Spirit for His correction, He shows us how to let go of what we believe we are, as reflected in what we judge. With His help, we forgive our judgments and their dark veil is dispelled. It reveals the Light of Love that is ever present in our mind.

Each lesson in forgiveness lets the Thought of Love shine more brightly in our mind. The awareness that we are in the Heaven of God’s Love now grows stronger. Anxiety and fear are replaced by peace and happiness. Today we choose the Holy Spirit’s purpose by letting Him decide all things on our behalf.

Learning What We Really Want

³Our emphasis is not on giving up the world, but on exchanging it for what is far more satisfying, filled with joy, and capable of offering you peace.

Is it a loss to find a world instead where losing is impossible; where love endures forever, hate cannot exist and vengeance has no meaning? ²Is it loss to find all things you really want, and know they have no ending and they will remain exactly as you want them throughout time?

⁴Value… not [the little things the world sets forth], and they will disappear. ⁵Esteem them, and they will seem real to you.

Such is the choice. ²What loss can be for you in choosing not to value nothingness? ³This world holds nothing that you really want, but what you choose instead you want indeed! ⁴Let it be given you today. ⁵It waits but for your choosing it, to take the place of all the things you seek but do not want.

³Beyond this world there is a world I want. ⁴I choose to see that world instead of this, for here is nothing that I really want. (A Course in Miracles, W-129.1:3;3:1-2;5:3-6:5;7:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 129 Insights.)

The only reason we seem to be in this world which never fully satisfies is because we chose to believe that specialness, having something to ourself alone, is what we want. Yet this wish is the denial of all that is real. The Love we are, in unity with our Creator, is one and the same. There can be no differences or uniqueness in Its oneness. Only this Love is truly satisfying, because It is all that is real. It is eternal and cannot be lost in truth.

The universe of Love is all we really want. Love is our Identity. It unifies us with all that is real. Only our dedication to specialness makes us unaware that we have all that we really want, now and forever. We ask the Holy Spirit to help us forgive this mistaken wish. As we forgive, the awareness of Love will fill our mind.

Remembering We Live in God’s Love

God goes with me wherever I go.

Today’s idea will eventually overcome completely the sense of loneliness and abandonment all the separated ones experience. ²Depression is an inevitable consequence of separation. ³So are anxiety, worry, a deep sense of helplessness, misery, suffering and intense fear of loss.

The separated ones have invented many “cures” for what they believe to be “the ills of the world.” ²But the one thing they do not do is to question the reality of the problem. ³Yet its effects cannot be cured because the problem is not real. ⁴The idea for today has the power to end all this foolishness forever. ⁵And foolishness it is, despite the serious and tragic forms it may take.

Deep within you is everything that is perfect, ready to radiate through you and out into the world. ²It will cure all sorrow and pain and fear and loss because it will heal the mind that thought these things were real, and suffered out of its allegiance to them.

You can never be deprived of your perfect holiness because its Source goes with you wherever you go. ²You can never suffer because the Source of all joy goes with you wherever you go. ³You can never be alone because the Source of all life goes with you wherever you go. ⁴Nothing can destroy your peace of mind because God goes with you wherever you go. The Course tells us repeatedly that the world we perceive through the body’s senses is not real. This is because we are so heavily invested in this mistaken belief that we need frequent reinforcement to help us let go of the belief that brings us only pain and loss. We have embraced a belief system that is built to defend its mistaken beliefs.

We cannot let it go without help from outside of our belief system. By God’s grace, we have been given the Holy Spirit as our Guide to freedom. He is aware of what we perceive, but does not believe it. When we are willing to pause and let peace return to our mind, He shows us the reality of Love that has been hidden by the images of separation.

The power of Love dispels the illusion, bringing relief to our troubled mind. Though we may let our limited beliefs close our mind again, each time we welcome His help, we are able to maintain our awareness of the Love we are a little longer. We remember our reality in the Love of God. It is worth the practice.
