Choose to Learn the Truth

My holy brother, think of this awhile: The world you see does nothing. It has no effects at all. It merely represents your thoughts. And it will change entirely as you elect to change your mind, and choose the joy of God as what you really want. Your Self is radiant in this holy joy, unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable, forever and forever. And would you deny a little corner of your mind its own inheritance, and keep it as a hospital for pain; a sickly place where living things must come at last to die?

Pain is illusion; joy, reality. Pain is but sleep; joy is awakening. Pain is deception; joy alone is truth.

And so again we make the only choice that ever can be made; we choose between illusions and the truth, or pain and joy, or hell and Heaven. Let our gratitude unto our Teacher fill our hearts, as we are free to choose our joy instead of pain, our holiness in place of sin, the peace of God instead of conflict, and the light of Heaven for the darkness of the world. The world we see is a reflection of our thoughts based on the belief that separation is real. But this belief denies the eternal oneness of God’s Love. A false belief can only lead to illusions which are not true.

Fortunately a belief can be changed. Even in this world everyone has experienced learning that a belief they held was wrong and let it go. This was accomplished with help by someone who was not limited by the false belief. Likewise we can learn that the core belief that holds the world together (belief in separation) can be corrected.

The Holy Spirit provides the help we need to heal our minds. He sees the world we perceive but does not believe it. As God’s answer to our mistaken belief, He can help us learn the truth instead of hanging on to the belief that denies truth. The choice to let the Holy Spirit reinterpret all our perceptions clears away the veil that hides the joy, peace and Love of our true Self.

Today we dedicate to letting the Holy Spirit heal our misperceptions. We choose to believe the Truth. We want to remember the peace, joy and Love given us by God.

Accepting the Love We Are

What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

All this forgiveness offers you, and more.

Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind. The Course tells us that we have one Life, which we share with God. The ego’s thoughts of separation deny the Life we share with God. When we believe we are a body separate from other bodies, we are accepting the ego’s lifeless thoughts. These thoughts hide our true Life in God.

By forgiving or letting go of the ego’s thoughts, the veil of lovelessness is lifted. The radiant Light of Love in every brother is revealed. We discover that the Light in our brothers is our own, for we are one Self, united with our Creator. The darkness of the ego’s illusions of fear and guilt is dispelled as we accept the Love we are.

With this acceptance comes unspeakable joy, peace beyond words and a freedom that lets Love bless us as it extends through us to all the world. This is everything we truly want.

Replacing Fear with the Reality of Love

The world is false perception. It is born of error, and it has not left its source. It will remain no longer than the thought that gave it birth is cherished. When the thought of separation has been changed to one of true forgiveness, will the world be seen in quite another light; and one which leads to truth, where all the world must disappear and all its errors vanish. Now its source has gone, and its effects are gone as well.

The world was made as an attack on God. It symbolizes fear. And what is fear except love’s absence? Thus the world was meant to be a place where God could enter not, and where His Son could be apart from Him.

As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world. Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. (A Course in Miracles Workbook, What Is the World?, W-pII.3.1:1-2:4;4:1-3)

We have thoroughly trained ourselves to believe that what the ego sees through the body’s eyes is true. But what we see with the ego is images in darkness, devoid of the Light of Love. The effect of this “seeing” is appearance of conflict, loss, guilt and fear — lack of Love.

It is time to retrain our minds to choose the Holy Spirit’s vision, which sees with the Light of Love. This vision shows us the reality of Love’s oneness. There is no conflict here, for Love is one and the same, everywhere, always and forever.

This vision cannot be seen by the body. It is seen with the vision of Christ in our mind. With this vision the images of the ego’s dark world are dispelled by the Light. They are overlooked as Love’s reality dawns upon our mind. Where we saw loss, we see only the constant extension of Love. Where we saw cause for guilt, we see Love’s eternal innocence. The reality of Love replaces the illusion of fear.

All this comes as we forgive by choosing the Holy Spirit’s vision over the ego’s image-making in darkness. This is how we accept that the Light of Love is here, now and always.

Seeing Beyond Bodies to the Light of Love

Our goal …is to become aware that God’s plan for salvation has already been accom­plished in us. To achieve this goal, we must replace attack [identifying with a body] with acceptance [of our true Identity]. As long as we attack [His plan], we cannot understand what God’s plan for us is. We are therefore attacking what we do not recognize.… We have attacked God’s plan for salvation without waiting to hear what it is. We have shouted our grievances so loudly that we have not listened to His Voice. We have used our grievances to close our eyes and stop our ears.

Now we would see and hear and learn. “What is salvation, Father?” Ask and you will be answered. Seek and you will find. We are no longer asking the ego what salvation is and where to find it. We are asking it of truth. Be certain, then, that the answer will be true because of Whom you ask. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 72, W-pI.72.10:1-4,10-12;11. While we believe the body is our identity, death seems real and grievances about what the body does seem justified. Identification with the body is the ego’s substitute for our true Identity as an extension of God’s Love. The body is limited. Love is unlimited and eternal.

The ego denies the reality of Love and cannot offer anything but an illusion of a loveless reality. This is the world we see. But we have a Guide Whose purpose is to help us see what the body’s eyes cannot. The Holy Spirit’s vision sees past appearances to the changeless Love of our true Identity. As we accept His vision in our mind, we find certainty and comfort in the Love we are.

Our prayer today: Holy Spirit, I welcome Your vision to see the Light of Love beyond bodies in the world. I would be Your instrument of communication to bring Love to the world. With Your help, I will see the unity of Truth beyond the appearances of separation. I will remember my true Identity.

Awakening to the Joy of Love’s Oneness

I am the light of the world. How holy am I, who have been given the function of lighting up the world! Let me be still before my holiness. In its calm light let all my conflicts disappear. In its peace let me remember Who I am.

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world. It is through accepting my function that I will see the light in me. And in this light will my function stand clear and perfectly un­ambiguous before my sight. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 81, W-pI.81.1;3:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 81 Insights.)

We are the Light of the world when we are conduits for the eternal flow of Love from our Creator. Love is Light. Through forgiveness we let Love shine through us to dispel the darkness of judgment, which denies Love. We cannot judge and Love at the same time.

While we identify with the ego, its judgments and denial of Love, we experience of world of darkness. The ego thoughts we accept block the Light of Love from our awareness. We need Help from outside the ego thought system to let go of the judgments that blind us to Love’s presence.

We accept the Holy Spirit’s help as we bring each thought of judgment, fear, guilt, sadness, anger or any unpeaceful thought, to the Him to be corrected. His Light will shine through the ego’s defenses to reveal the presence of Love all around us. With the barriers let go, we join with the presence of Love everywhere and the world is recognized in all Its loving glory. Illusions of differences and separation are let go. We awaken to the joy of living in Love’s Oneness.

Walking in the Way of Love

I offer only miracles today, For I would have them be returned to me.

Father, a miracle reflects Your gifts to me, Your Son. And every [miracle] I give returns to me, reminding me the law of love is universal. Even here, it takes a form which can be recognized and seen to work. The miracles I give are given back in just the form I need to help me with the problems I perceive. Father, in Heaven it is different, for there, there are no needs. But here on earth, the miracle is closer to Your gifts than any other gift that I can give. Then let me give this gift [of a miracle] alone today, which, born of true forgiveness, lights the way that I must travel to remember You.

Peace to all seeking hearts today. The light has come to offer miracles [born of true forgiveness] to bless the tired world. It will find rest today, for we will offer what we have received. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 345, W-pII.345. See also ACIM Lesson 345 Insights.)

What do we want to offer the world today? If we harbor thoughts of fear in our mind, we are offering fear — denial of love — to the world. But we can choose to offer true forgiveness to bring the Light of God’s Love to the world.

True forgiveness comes when we let the Holy Spirit heal our fear-based thoughts. Today we choose to let the Holy Spirit guide all our thoughts in the way of Love. With our healed thoughts, we bless the world and experience Love’s blessing.

Finding Our Way to Love’s Stillness

I have already chosen what You will.

Father, I thought I wandered from Your Will, defied it, broke its laws, and interposed a second will more powerful than Yours. Yet what I am in truth is but Your Will, extended and extending. This am I, and this will never change. As You are One, so am I one with You. And this I chose in my creation, where my will became forever one with Yours. That choice was made for all eternity. It cannot change, and be in opposition to itself. Father, my will is Yours. And I am safe, untrou­bled and serene, in endless joy, because it is Your Will that it be so.

Today we will accept our union with each other and our Source. We have no will apart from His, and all of us are one because His Will is shared by all of us. Through it we recognize that we are one. The appearance of bodies seems to make us separate from each other. But we all share God’s Will; we are united as one in His Will. God has shared with us all His attributes — His Love, joy and peace. This is our natural condition, the changeless state of our true Self.

If we experience any lack of Love, happiness or peace, we are denying God’s Will as ours. We can return to our true Self by forgiving the denial of His Will. Forgiveness is the key to happiness because it removes the barrier that blocks our awareness of the Will we share with God.

Today we take the Holy Spirit’s hand to let Him guide us past the images of denial of God’s Love. We follow Him to the Light of our true Self. He leads us to the stillness of our unity in Love with every brother and our Creator. Holding His Hand, we journey to our Home.
