This Is My Holy Instant of Ielease

Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken, and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours.

And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left. The Son of God this day lays down his dreams. The Son of God this day comes home again, released from sin and clad in holiness, with his right mind restored to him at last. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 227, W-pII.227. In every moment we have a choice. Are we going to insist that our perceptions are correct — that we live in a world of separate images, independent of our thoughts and capable of conflicting with our wishes and our needs? Or are we going to accept the Will we share with God that sees only the unified innocence of eternal Love as real. The first choice inevitably brings with it guilt, fear and a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability. The second choice brings peace and joy as we accept the gifts God wills us to have and be.

Today we choose to lay down our self-imposed limitations and accept the will we share with God. With this choice we release ourselves from bondage to mistaken beliefs and return to Heaven.

The Antidote to Powerlessness

[Affirm:] I who remain as God created me would loose the world from all I thought it was. For I am real because the world is not, and I would know my own reality.

Then merely rest, alert but with no strain, and let your mind in quietness be changed so that the world is freed, along with you.

You need not realize that healing comes to many brothers far across the world, as well as to the ones you see nearby, as you send out these thoughts to bless the world. But you will sense your own release, although you may not fully understand as yet that you could never be released alone.

“Throughout the day, increase the freedom sent through your ideas to all the world, and say whenever you are tempted to deny the power of your simple change of mind:

I loose the world from all I thought it was, and choose my own [true reality in God] instead. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 132, W-pI.132.15:2-17:2. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

The ego wants us to believe that we are powerless against outside forces from a capricious world. Even the ego’s concept of God is that He can take our “life” on a whim. But believing in a lie does not make it true, except in our perception.

We are not powerless because God has shared all His power and strength with us. We reclaim God’s gift by letting go of our belief in the ego’s lies. Because we are united with every brother in the Sonship, we bring healing to the world as we let go of what we have believed about the world.

As we pause in quietness and welcome the Holy Spirit’s Presence in our mind, our misperceptions are healed. We bless the world as we accept God’s Love and strength as ours. We already have the power to heal the world. We simply need to deny the ego’s denial of What we are in truth and choose instead to accept our reality in Love.

How to Correct Errors

If you point out the errors of your brother’s ego you must be seeing through yours, because the Holy Spirit does not perceive his errors. This must be true, since there is no communication between the ego and the Holy Spirit. The ego makes no sense, and the Holy Spirit does not attempt to understand anything that arises from it. Since He does not understand it, He does not judge it, knowing that nothing the ego makes means anything.

When you react at all to errors, you are not listening to the Holy Spirit. He has merely disregarded them, and if you attend to [errors] you are not hearing Him. If you do not hear Him, you are listening to your ego and making as little sense as the brother whose errors you perceive. This cannot be correction. Yet it is more than merely a lack of correction for him. It is the giving up of correction in yourself.

When a brother behaves insanely, you can heal him only by perceiving the sanity in him. If you perceive his errors and accept them [as real], you are accepting [your errors]. If you want to give them over to the Holy Spirit, you must do this with his. Unless this becomes the one way in which you handle all errors, you cannot understand how all errors are undone. The Course makes it clear that our experience as a body in the world is an illusion — not real. Yet the images we see in the world through the body’s senses seem very real. To ignore what we perceive seems at best irresponsible and at worst life threatening. This “life” that is threatened is a pseudo-life. It is an imagined image of the ego, which the ego demands we believe is real because its existence depends on our belief. This is the fundamental error that maintains the ego.

Correction of this fundamental error must come from a Source that knows it is not real. This is why we must learn to rely on the Holy Spirit’s vision at all times and in all ways. His vision will show us that the ego’s images are just vain imaginings, having no effect whatsoever on the truth of What we are. The Holy Spirit’s vision will show us the Son of God beyond the image of the separate identity. It is the Son of God that unites us with our brother in the oneness of God’s Love.

Each time we let the Holy Spirit help us see past our judgments and our interpretations of what we perceive, we take another step toward healing ourselves along with our brothers. Today we will practice walking in the way of Love’s vision. It will be a day of gratitude, for we will be remembering God.

Finding Peace Through Forgiveness

Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here.

Conflict must be resolved. It cannot be evaded, set aside, denied, disguised, seen somewhere else, called by another name, or hidden by deceit of any kind, if it would be escaped. [Conflict] must be seen exactly as it is, where it is thought to be, in the reality which has been given it, and with the purpose that the mind accorded it. For only then are its defenses lifted, and the truth can shine upon it as it disappears.

Father, forgiveness is the light You chose to shine away all conflict and all doubt, and light the way for our return to You. No light but this can end our evil dream. No light but this can save the world. For this alone will never fail in anything, being Your gift to Your beloved Son. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 333, W-pII.333. Forgiveness is the core lesson of A Course in Miracles. But it is not the forgiveness commonly practiced in the world. The ego teaches us that what we perceive in the world actually happened. While we hold this belief, true forgiveness is impossible. No one is willing to truly forgive a harm they believe is real. They may try ignore it, hide it in the corner of their mind or seek retribution, but never truly let it go.

True release can only occur when the unreality of a perceived harm is recognized. The ego would never show us unreality because it itself is unreal and if it is recognized as such, the ego would simply cease to seem to be.

To truly forgive, we need the help of the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness starts with acknowledging that we do believe something happened that harmed us in some way. It is this belief that must be let go for true forgiveness to set us free. To let our beliefs go, we need the Holy Spirit’s help to show us the truth that was hidden by the mistaken belief in what could never be real.

Our part of forgiveness is to acknowledge the need to forgive our perception and offer that perception to the Holy Spirit for His loving correction. The Holy Spirit sees what we believe but does not believe it. His part in the forgiveness process is to provide a bridge leading us out of our mistaken belief and show us that only Love is real. With His vision, we remember that nothing has harmed our true Self. Nothing has changed God’s Son, Who remains at one with God’s Love eternally.

Today we practice walking with the Holy Spirit with willingness to join with His vision of Christ. In this shared vision we will see the innocence of Love’s oneness instead of the guilt of separation. This is how we welcome miracles.

Replacing Vulnerability with Invulnerability

It is surely obvious that if you can be attacked you are not invulnerable. You see attack as a real threat. That is because you believe that you can really attack. And what would have effects through you must also have effects on you.

Because your attack thoughts will be projected, you will fear attack. And if you fear attack, you must believe that you are not invulnerable. Attack thoughts therefore make you vulnerable in your own mind, which is where the attack thoughts are. Attack thoughts and invulnerability cannot be accepted together. They contradict each other.

…vulnerability or invulnerability is the result of your own thoughts. Nothing except your thoughts can attack you. Noth­ing except your thoughts can make you think you are vulner­able. And nothing except your thoughts can prove to you this is not so. [A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 26, W-pI.26.1:1-4;2;4:1-4. See also ACIM Lesson 26 Insights.)

Believing we are a body and perceiving others as bodies is an attack on the truth of What we are as one Self, the Son of God. A body is a limit and believing in its seeming reality denies the unlimited Love we are. Perceiving ourselves as divorced from the strength of God’s Love leaves us feeling weak and vulnerable. This is an inevitable consequence of identifying with the ego.

By the grace of God, we can never be the ego because the ego does not exist in truth. If we accept the ego’s limits, we will feel justified in being concerned about the future, wary of attack and loss, and guilty about the “harm” we have done in the past. All this comes with accepting an image of ourself that could never be true.

The way to release ourselves from this false image is to offer all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit. He will show us that beyond appearances in the world is the oneness of Love that unites us with our brother and our Creator. He will teach us of the strength of Love that is already ours. He will replace our perception of vulnerability with His vision of our harmlessness and invulnerability as extensions of God’s Love.

Today we ask Holy Spirit to help us see as He sees — with the vision of Christ.

God Is Our Source and Our Life

God is with me. I live and move in Him.

God is with me. He is my Source of life, the life within, the air I breathe, the food by which I am sustained, the water which renews and cleanses me. He is my home, wherein I live and move; the Spirit which directs my actions, offers me Its Thoughts, and guarantees my safety from all pain. He covers me with kindness and with care, and holds in love the Son He shines upon, who also shines on Him. How still is he who knows the truth of what He speaks today!

Father, we have no words except Your Name upon our lips and in our minds, as we come quietly into Your Presence now, and ask to rest with You in peace a while. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 222, W-pII.222. See also ACIM Lesson 222 Insights.)

In the dream world, we need water, food, air and protection to “survive” — to keep the body alive. This lesson uses the metaphor of God providing all we need by listing these forms. But He did not make these things we think we need in the world.

God has given us all that He is. He is our Life. He is our sure protection. We need nothing but to accept What He has already given us. In this acceptance, we rest in His peace and unlimited Love. We have no need but this.

Today we remind ourselves frequently, “God is my Source and my Life. I am eternally safe in His Presence.”

The Choice for Peace and Happiness

This is the only thing that you need do for vision, happiness, release from pain and the complete escape from sin, all to be given you. Say only this, but mean it with no reservations, for here the power of salvation lies:

I am responsible for what I see.
I choose the feelings I experience, and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.
And everything that seems to happen to me I ask for, and receive as I have asked.

 
Deceive yourself no longer that you are helpless in the face of what is done to you. Acknowledge but that you have been mistaken, and all effects of your mistakes will disappear.

It is impossible the Son of God be merely driven by events outside of him. It is impossible that happenings that come to him were not his choice. His power of decision is the determiner of every situation in which he seems to find himself by chance or accident. No accident nor chance is possible within the universe as God created it, outside of which is nothing. Suffer, and you decided sin was your goal. Be happy, and you gave the power of decision to Him Who must decide for God for you. (A Course in Miracles, T-21.II.2:1-3:6. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego is dedicated to making it appear that we are victims of forces from an outside world over which we have no control. As long as we believe this we imprison ourselves in a loveless world, alone, weak, fearful and guilty. And the ego smiles with satisfaction. But it is our choice to believe the ego. We have another choice.

We can choose to let the Holy Spirit judge all things on our behalf, instead of giving our belief and power to the ego. The Holy Spirit chooses for our freedom from limitation. His choice for us is always the truth: That we are whole, complete and safe in the oneness of Love. Here harm is impossible and only joy and peace exist. The Holy Spirit knows that there is nothing outside of Love, for only Love is real. When we choose the Holy Spirit to decide on our behalf, we remember our true Self. We remember God. We remember we are in Heaven now.

We dedicate today to accepting Holy Spirit’s judgment in every moment.
