The Practice That Leads to Love

You look still with the body’s eyes, and they can see but thorns. Yet you have asked for and received another sight. Those who accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose as their own share also His vision. And what enables Him to see His purpose shine forth from every altar now is yours as well as His. He sees no strangers; only dearly loved and loving friends. He sees no thorns but only lilies, gleaming in the gentle glow of peace that shines on everything He looks upon and loves.

You have the vision now to look past all illusions. It has been given you to see no thorns, no strangers and no obstacles to peace. The fear of God is nothing to you now. Who is afraid to look upon illusions, knowing his savior [brother] stands beside him? With him, your vision has become the greatest power for the undoing of illusion that God Himself could give. For what God gave the Holy Spirit, you have received. The Son of God looks unto you for his release. For you have asked for and been given the strength to look upon this final obstacle, and see no thorns nor nails to crucify the Son of God, and crown him king of death.

Your chosen home is on the other side, beyond the veil. It has been carefully prepared for you, and it is ready to receive you now. You will not see it with the body’s eyes. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.II.5;7:1-8:3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Every brother is our savior when he is seen truly with the Holy Spirit’s vision. His vision sees only the Love that is the true Self in everyone, including ourselves. This Self unites us all in Love’s oneness.

When we believe what the body’s eyes see is our reality, we do not see our brother truly. We see the ego-made barrier which hides the presence of Love. As long as we rely on the body’s limited vision, we are bound to the dream of pain, lack, guilt and fear.

In every instant we can choose the Holy Spirit’s vision. This choice brings Light to our mind, dispelling the barriers to Love’s presence. We open our hearts and minds to this healing Light by frequently asking Love to guide our seeing. The more we practice the more we free ourselves from the dream. It is a journey that takes us Home to the peace, joy and Love of Heaven.

How to Manifest God’s Power in Our Life

Your holiness reverses all the laws of the world. It is beyond every restriction of time, space, distance and limits of any kind. Your holiness is totally unlimited in its power because it estab­lishes you as a Son of God, at one with the Mind of his Creator.

Through your holiness the power of God is made manifest. Through your holiness the power of God is made available. And there is nothing the power of God cannot do. Your holi­ness, then, can remove all pain, can end all sorrow, and can solve all problems. …It is equal in its power to help anyone because it is equal in its power to save anyone.

If you are holy, so is everything God created. You are holy because all things He created are holy.

…search your mind for any sense of loss or unhappiness of any kind as you see it.…

In the situation involving _________ in which I see myself, there is nothing that my holiness cannot do.

Our true Self is holy because It is Love and nothing else. This Self sees only Love everywhere because only Love is real. The world we experience as a body is not real because it lacks the unity of Love. We cannot lose our Identity as Love, but we can hide It behind illusions of time, space and images of separation. The holiness of our true Self sees beyond these limitations.

We have trained our minds to believe separation and appearances of limitation are real. But we can retrain our minds to remember the holiness of our unified, unlimited Love. Our holiness, the Love we are, can heal all our misperceptions. The perception of another as harmed or capable of harming is healed when we let our holiness, the Love of our true Self, take precedence in our mind. Love heals perceptions of separation.

As we apply this thought to whatever seems to be a problem in the world, we bring healing to our mind. As our mind is healed, the world is healed along with it. As our acceptance of our holiness is complete, we recognize nothing outside of our holy Mind is real. We are indeed one in the Mind of God.

Reclaiming the Love We Are

Forgiveness is the only gift I give.

Forgiveness is the only gift I give, because it is the only gift I want. And everything I give I give myself. This is salvation’s simple formula. And I, who would be saved, would make it mine, to be the way I live within a world that needs salvation, and that will be saved as I accept Atonement for myself.

Father, how certain are Your ways; how sure their final outcome, and how faithfully is every step in my salvation set already, and accomplished by Your grace. Thanks be to You for Your eternal gifts, and thanks to You for my Identity. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 297, W-pII.297. See also ACIM Lesson 297 Insights.)

In this world the oneness of Love is denied. If we give something, we believe we no longer have it. This belief makes us reluctant to forgive because we don’t realize that forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves along with the seeming “other” we forgive.

Each time we forgive with the Holy Spirit’s help, a barrier to Love’s presence is released. Thus we receive the gift of Love. It is in our Self interest to forgive because it releases the limitation we have placed on our Self in the dream of separation. Forgiveness is the means to awaken to the eternal fact that we are pure Love, united with All That is in God.

Being Love’s Messenger in the World

My eyes, my tongue, my hands, my feet today Have but one purpose; to be given Christ To use to bless the world with miracles.

Father, I give all that is mine today to Christ, to use in any way that best will serve the purpose that I share with Him. Nothing is mine alone, for He and I have joined in purpose. Thus has learning come almost to its appointed end. A while I work with Him to serve His purpose. Then I lose myself in my Identity, and recognize that Christ is but my Self. This prayer could be called a dedication for a teacher of God. Accepted and applied, this dedication would lead us to extend Love throughout the day through our thoughts, our words and actions. We would be instruments for Christ’s expression in the world.

This world is a dream in which the ego’s denial of Love is played out through seemingly unending conflict. Perceiving itself as alone, the ego is in constant fear of its vulnerability to outside forces that can harm or even kill it. Its greatest fear is that Love be welcomed, for Love would bring the end of separation, the end of the ego.

In this dream world we have a mission—to bring Love to the world. We seem to be here because we have accepted the ego’s version of our identity—a little, separated self, alone, friendless, guilty and afraid. It is not the truth of our Identity. In every moment we can choose to let our true Identity extend Love’s blessing to the world.

As we perceive the world today, we practice asking, “How would Love see this? What would Love have me do and say?” As we accept the guidance of Love, we become teachers of God in a world hungry for Love.

Our Shared Identity as God’s One Son

There is a place in you where this whole world has been forgotten; where no memory of sin and of illusion lingers still. There is a place in you which time has left, and echoes of eternity are heard. There is a resting place so still no sound except a hymn to Heaven rises up to gladden God the Father and the Son.

The still infinity of endless peace surrounds you gently in its soft embrace, so strong and quiet, tranquil in the might of its Creator, nothing can intrude upon the sacred Son of God within.

Nothing is asked of you but to accept the changeless and eternal that abide in [your brother], for your Identity is there. The peace in you can but be found in him. And every thought of love you offer him but brings you nearer to your wakening to peace eternal and to endless joy.

Be very still and hear God’s Voice in him, and let It tell you what his function is.

Forgiving dreams are means to step aside from dreaming of a world outside yourself. And leading finally beyond all dreams, unto the peace of everlasting life. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.V,1:1-3;2:4;3:3-5;4:2;8:5-6. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The tranquility of perfect peace is the natural condition of our true Identity. Anything that disturbs our peace is nothing more than a dream of judgment stemming from a belief in a false separate identity. This sense of separation could only seem real in a dream that denies Reality. There is no need for forgiveness in the Reality of Love.

But forgiveness is needed in the dream. It is our key to awakening to the peace that is our true nature. God gave His Voice to be heard in the dream as His Teacher of forgiveness.

Listen for His Voice. Let It inspire you to see your brother truly. Every brother offers you peace. Let the Holy Spirit reveal his true Identity to you. It is yours as well. For we share the one Identity of God’s Son, at Home in His peace, perfectly safe and eternally loved.

Celebrate Christmas with Forgiveness

The name of Jesus is the name of one who was a man but saw the face of Christ in all his brothers and remembered God. So he became identified with Christ, a man no longer, but at one with God. The man was an illusion, for he seemed to be a separate being, walking by himself, within a body that appeared to hold his self from Self, as all illusions do. Yet who can save unless he sees illusions and then identifies them as what they are? Jesus remains a Savior because he saw the false without accepting it as true. And Christ needed his form that He might appear to men and save them from their own illusions.

In his complete identification with the Christ—the perfect Son of God, His one creation and His happiness, forever like Himself and One with Him–Jesus became what all of you must be. He led the way for you to follow him. He leads you back to God because he saw the road before him, and he followed it. He made a clear distinction, still obscure to you, between the false and true. He offered you a final demonstration that it is impossible to kill God’s Son; nor can his life in any way be changed by sin and evil, malice, fear or death. Jesus learned a lesson we all must learn. He learned to look at all the forms in the world, but accepted none of them as real. His “life” in the world demonstrated that nothing that seems to occur in the world had any effect on the truth of his Self, the Christ. This Self can never be harmed because it shares the changelessness of God.

This is the lesson all of us can and must learn if we would free ourselves from our mistaken beliefs that separation is real. This lesson fully learned without exception awakens us to the Christ we are, along with Jesus.

We celebrate Christmas by not revering the body named Jesus, but by accepting our true Self as our Identity, by learning the lesson Jesus learned. We take a step in this direction every time we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to forgive a misperception. We accept Christ into our hearts by letting go of our self-made barriers to Love’s presence. As the barriers are released, our true Self, the Christ, is revealed. When forgiveness is complete, the Love we are is united wholeheartedly with the Love that is the truth in every brother.

Remembering Our Eternal Safety

There is a peace that Christ bestows on us.

Who uses but Christ’s vision finds a peace so deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless, that the world contains no counterpart. Comparisons are still before this peace. And all the world departs in silence as this peace envelops it, and gently car­ries it to truth, no more to be the home of fear. For love has come, and healed the world by giving it Christ’s peace.

Father, the peace of Christ is given us, because it is Your Will that we be saved. Help us today but to accept Your gift, and judge it not. For it has come to us to save us from our judgment on ourselves. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 305, W-pII.305. See also ACIM Lesson 305 Insights.)

We don’t have to wait for peace. We only need to accept the gift God has already given us. Christ and our true Self are one and the same. The world we experience as a body is the effect of refusing God’s gift. Being the denial of truth, this world is loveless and filled with conflict.

We have the means to escape from this fearful, loveless world. We can turn to the peace of our true Self. It is in us now. We access it by stepping back from our investment in the world’s appearances.

Take a deep breath and relax. Call upon the Christ in our mind, the truth of the Self God created one with Him. Here is the Home of peace. As we let this peace flow across our mind, the Light of Love dispels the dark shadows of the ego’s denial. Love brings peace to our troubled mind and we see beyond the forms to the presence of Love. The appearance of conflict and loss fades into the distance as the peace, joy and Love of our Self steps forward. We remember our eternal safety in God.
