Forgiveness Ends All Suffering

When the time comes to let it all go, will you be ready? To let go is to relinquish all attachment, all need to hold on to something. The end of suffering is the release of all that causes it. What are the causes? False beliefs about yourself and the world. What else could bring about a state of suffering in the mind created perfect by God? Suffering is illusion; the mind that thinks suffering real, has forgotten what it is and imagines itself to be something else entirely. That something else is a body, housing a mind with which it is identical. Could such an identity shift truly occur? Only in dreams where you seem to be as you are not. All authentic spiritual thought systems attempt to teach that you are not a body, separate from everything you see and your creative Source. You are Mind and Reality Itself. Only your ignorance of your eternal Reality, a kind of amnesia that is actively maintained, keeps the true experience of your Self from your awareness. (From the Christ Mind Book II, page 174)

A painful sense of profound loss is inevitable if we believe we are separate from our Source of Life and Love. A world of separation is a loveless and lonely world, experienced only because of accepting this false belief in separation. We made the choice to accept the belief. Likewise, we can make the choice to change our minds and reject the belief.

Forgiveness is the means to let go of all that is false. When we have let it all go, we will remember that we, along with all our brothers, are Love and nothing else. We will experience the infinite joy of our oneness in the Source of all Love. Forgiveness is the means to end all suffering. It is worth the moment by moment practice of letting Holy Spirit guide all our thoughts.

Letting Truth Enter

A quiet mind, resting in the present, is ready and open to receive Truth. Truth cannot enter a mind that is busy, driven to distraction, filled with its own ideas and goals. In such a mind, there is no room for Truth nor would It be welcome, for the restless, constantly active mind is interested only in itself, its needs and wants. Virtually all spiritual practices aim to achieve just this quietness of mind that is the condition in which Truth can be experienced. Patience is a part of preparation, a quality of mind that must be developed, that awareness be able to rest quietly in the present. Patience rests on surrender and deepens it until they become one. Our practice for today is letting truth enter our minds. We do this by opening up to the eternal now of the Holy Spirit… In the eternal now the deep peace of Heaven is experienced… The joy of Love’s oneness returns…

In this quietness, the eternal beingness of our true Nature is witnessed and experienced… We innately know that It cannot be lost, because our true Nature is eternal… 

We give time today to let Truth in and receive inspiration in how to be truly helpful… We give Love a home in our minds and extend It freely to every brother, knowing we are one.

Letting Your Mind Serve Spirit

The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two, and still be what It is and must forever be. A mind and body cannot both exist. Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality.

Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. Its power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Our purpose here is to serve Spirit. We serve Spirit by being willing to open our mind to Spirit’s healing peace and quiet inner joy… We serve Spirit by quietly listening and following… We let peace lead the way…

In quiet is every problem quietly resolved. Peace returns where there was conflict… Fears disappear in Spirit’s healing Light… All that is not real and doesn’t really matter quietly disappears as Spirit comes forward in our mind. We recognize our oneness, our safety and Love’s eternal Presence.

Remembering Who We Really Are

[I am spirit] identifies you with your one Self.

You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him.

You are the spirit in whose mind abides the miracle in which all time stands still; the miracle in which a minute spent in using these ideas becomes a time that has no limit and that has no end. Give, then, these minutes willingly, and count on Him Who promised to lay timelessness beside them. He will offer all His strength to every little effort that you make. Give Him the minutes which He needs today, to help you understand with Him you are the spirit that abides in Him, and that calls through His Voice to every living thing; offers His sight to everyone who asks; replaces error with the simple truth. The Course is training us to change our minds about what we think we are. The world we experience with the body seems very real. It seems that we really are different from everybody and everything. It seems that the only way we can communicate is through forms such as words, gestures and actions done with the body. But the Course is telling us that this experience is only a dream of self-imposed limitation. We are no more limited by the body than we are by time and space.

By reminding ourselves that we are Spirit, not limited by time or distance but one with all Spirit, all brothers and with God, we loosen our investment in the limited world of dreams. Each time we accept just a little that we are Spirit, we take a step toward remembering that we remain at one with our Creator. We share all His attributes. His strength is ours. His Love infuses us with gratitude and inspiration to share and extend His Love. Here we find joy and peace. Here we remember Who we really are.

Giving Love Is Receiving Love

Do not refuse to do what the Holy Spirit asks of you. To refuse to give will block your receiving. Give all you have and then give more, and your cup will always be running over. Those who are blessed with the gifts of God will give all that they have received. By giving away what you have been given, it becomes yours to keep. Your store will be continually increasing; the more you give, the more you will have. You have an inexhaustible supply of gifts to give; your storehouse is always full.

“Those who have accepted their part in God’s Great Plan recognize the importance of giving to all. Your Father only gives. ‘Be you perfect even as your Father in Heaven in perfect.’ Give all to all, and forgive the world and everyone and everything in it. Give and forgive; let this be the rule that guides your life. Thus will you be doing God’s Will and bringing Heaven’s blessing to a tired and suffering world. (From the Christ Mind Book II, p. 172)

Because separation is really nothing and Love is everything, in truth we can only give Love. The more we are willing to receive the truth that we are only Love, the more extending Love becomes easy and natural… It becomes natural to see every brother as the Love they are… It becomes natural to see past illusions of separate bodies to the truth of Love’s oneness…

We see that everyone is in truth just as God created them… We see that nothing could ever really happen to change God’s one Son… We see that God’s Will is our will… We see that God’s happiness is our happiness… We see that God’s peace is our peace…

We forgive the world for all that we ever thought it was… We teach only Love because we know that we are and have only Love… We teach by demonstration…

We see all anger and attack as simply fear thoughts. We see all judgment and hurtful behavior as simply calls for Love. We freely extend Love because we know that there is an endless supply and the more we give Love, the more we receive. We know our storehouse is full and we naturally and joyfully extend all the Love we have. Because we recognize Love’s oneness, we know that giving Love is receiving Love.

Releasing Grievances

The ego’s plan for salvation centers around holding grievances. It maintains that, if someone else spoke or acted differently, if some external circumstance or event were changed, you would be saved. Thus, the source of salvation is constantly perceived as outside yourself. Each grievance you hold is a declaration, and an assertion in which you believe, that says, “If this were different, I would be saved.” The change of mind necessary for salvation is thus demanded of everyone and everything except yourself.

Be alert to all temptation to hold grievances today, and respond to them with this form of today’s idea:

Holding grievances is the opposite of God’s plan for salvation. And only His plan will work.

Projection is a key mechanism for making separation seem real. It is a means for making the cause of our lack of peace appear to be outside of us. When we hold a grievance, we separate ourselves from the solution to perceived problems. Yet the solution is always available to us.

As we are willing to take our grievances to the Holy Spirit with willingness to let Him show us how to release them, we make way for the solution of our perceived problems. We make way for the healing of the false ideas that hide the fact that the Source of joy and peace is already in us and always with us.

As we do this, we take charge of our minds and become the master of our domain. We return to our natural state of joy in the Mind of Love. Today we will be vigilant to recognize grievances and bring them to the Holy Spirit in our mind for transformation.

Releasing the Dark Shadow of Specialness

The real world is attained simply by the complete forgiveness of the old, the world you see without forgiveness. The Great Transformer of perception will undertake with you the careful searching of the mind that made this world, and uncover to you the seeming reasons for your making it. In the light of the real reason that He brings, as you follow Him, He will show you that there is no reason here at all. Each spot His reason touches grows alive with beauty, and what seemed ugly in the darkness of your lack of reason is suddenly released to loveliness. Not even what the Son of God made in insanity could be without a hidden spark of beauty that gentleness could release.

All this beauty will rise to bless your sight as you look upon the world with forgiving eyes. For forgiveness literally transforms vision, and lets you see the real world reaching quietly and gently across chaos, removing all illusions that had twisted your perception and fixed it on the past. Unforgiveness casts a dark shadow over the reality of Love, making It invisible to us. The dream world we see is the effect of the wish for special Love, which is the denial of God’s Love. The wish for specialness has produced the perception of a world of images of bodies and things, of differences and loss and lack. Thus what needs to be forgiven is the wish for specialness.

As we are willing to accept the help of the Great Transformer in our minds, the dark shadow of specialness is lifted, revealing the eternal, changeless Light of Love that we have kept hidden, but never lost. Forgiveness is the key to happiness because forgiveness clears the way for the acceptance of God’s Love. And joy is an attribute of Love.

Let us today practice bringing all our perceptions to the Great Transformer of perception so that the way can be cleared to experience the beauty and joy of our Home in God.
