Transforming Our Perception of the World

⁴Every thought you have makes up some segment of the world you see. ⁵It is with your thoughts, then, that we must work, if your perception of the world is to be changed.

If the cause of the world you see is attack thoughts, you must learn that it is these thoughts which you do not want. ²There is no point in lamenting the world. ³There is no point in trying to change the world. ⁴It is incapable of change because it is merely an effect. ⁵But there is indeed a point in changing your thoughts about the world. ⁶Here you are changing the cause. ⁷The effect will change automatically.

The world you see is a vengeful world, and everything in it is a symbol of vengeance. ²Each of your perceptions of “external reality” is a pictorial representation of your own attack thoughts.

…you are not trapped in the world you see, because its cause can be changed. ²This change requires, first, that the cause be identified and then let go, so that it can be replaced. (A Course in Miracles, W-23.1:4–3:2;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 23 Insights.)

Every perception of separation or differences is an attack on the oneness of Love. This is why the ego’s wish for specialness is an attack on Love. To be special means to be different.

We always have the option of letting go of our wish for specialness and accepting Love’s oneness as our Identity. We have mistakenly identified with the ego, but we can change our identification. To make that change we must learn to recognize our judgments. They separate us from the Love that is the identity we share with every brother and our Creator. As we are willing to let go of these thoughts, we make way for Love to rush in and transform our perception of the world.

Learning to Listen to the Voice for Love

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way. ²The part of your mind in which truth abides is in constant communication with God, whether you are aware of it or not.

The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain. ²It is really the only part there is. ³The other part is a wild illusion, frantic and distraught, but without reality of any kind. ⁴Try today not to listen to it. ⁵Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever. ⁶Try to hear God’s Voice call to you lovingly, reminding you that your Creator has not forgotten His Son.

Listen in deep silence. ²Be very still and open your mind. ³Go past all the raucous shrieks and sick imaginings that cover your real thoughts and obscure your eternal link with God. ⁴Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world. ⁵You do not live here. ⁶We are trying to reach your real home. ⁷We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome. ⁸We are trying to reach God.

…be sure to sit quietly and repeat the idea for today whenever you can, closing your eyes on the world, and realizing that you are inviting God’s Voice to speak to you. (A Course in Miracles, W-49.1:1-2;2;4;5:3. See also ACIM Lesson 49 Insights.)

The connection of our mind with the Mind of Love is unbreakable. It can and has been obscured by illusions that deny Love’s presence. These illusions are held in a mind apart from the Mind of our True Self. It obscures our real Mind only because we believe we want the illusions the mind apart conjures.

Today’s practice will help us lay down our mistaken beliefs that obscure the Love we are. As we let our mind go deep into peace, the Voice that speaks for Love is heard. This is the Voice we really want to hear. It leads us to unspeakable joy, peace of mind, and Love that cannot be contained. Love is the unifying power in our mind that joins with every brother and our Creator. This is our practice for today.

Awakening to Our Home in Love

I will be still an instant and go home.

This world you seem to live in is not home to you. ²And somewhere in your mind you know that this is true.

We speak today for everyone who walks this world, for he is not at home. ²He goes uncertainly about in endless search, seeking in darkness what he cannot find; not recognizing what it is he seeks. ³A thousand homes he makes, yet none contents his restless mind. ⁴He does not understand he builds in vain. ⁵The home he seeks can not be made by him. ⁶There is no substitute for Heaven. ⁷All he ever made was hell.

…there is a Child in you Who seeks His Father’s house, and knows that He is alien here. ⁴This childhood is eternal, with an innocence that will endure forever. ⁵Where this Child shall go is holy ground. ⁶It is His Holiness that lights up Heaven, and that brings to earth the pure reflection of the light above, wherein are earth and Heaven joined as one.

The home we seek, a place of safety and love, is within our mind. It is the part that knows we remain united with our Father. This part is always with us wherever we go.

We find this Home when we dismiss the veil of separation that has left us feeling empty and alone. The Holy Spirit is in our mind to help us let go of the mistaken identification that leaves us feeling unsafe and unloved. Our Father loves us, now and forever. He holds His Son safely in His Mind, and sharing all His attributes of peace, joy and Love.

Today we welcome the help of the Holy Spirit to awaken to the Home we never left.

Claiming Our Reality in Love

God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

The idea for today combines two very powerful thoughts, both of major importance. ²It also sets forth a cause and effect relationship that explains why you cannot fail in your efforts to achieve the goal of the course. ³You will see because it is the Will of God. ⁴It is His strength, not your own, that gives you power. ⁵And it is His gift, rather than your own, that offers vision to you.

God is indeed your strength, and what He gives is truly given. ²This means that you can receive it any time and anywhere, wherever you are, and in whatever circumstance you find yourself. ³Your passage through time and space is not at random. ⁴You cannot but be in the right place at the right time. ⁵Such is the strength of God. ⁶Such are His gifts.

²The idea for the day is a beginning step in bringing thoughts together, and teaching you that you are studying a unified thought system in which nothing is lacking that is needed, and nothing is included that is contradictory or irrelevant. We experience uncertainty and vulnerability in the world because we are identifying with a false image. The ego thought system denies the certainty and strength of our unbreakable connection with our Creator. The connection cannot be broken, but we can become unaware of it when we accept the ego’s denial.

Today we are told that God is our strength and He has given us His vision which shows us there is nothing to fear. His gift of all of Himself makes us invulnerable because His Love never changes. As we practice reminding ourselves that God is our strength, we recognize more and more that there is nothing to fear.

Today is a good day to claim our Reality. We live in the Love of God.

Accepting the Holy Spirit’s Lessons in Love

What fear has hidden still is part of you. ²Joining the Atonement is the way out of fear. ³The Holy Spirit will help you reinterpret everything that you perceive as fearful, and teach you that only what is loving is true. ⁴Truth is beyond your ability to destroy, but entirely within your ability to accept. ⁵It belongs to you because, as an extension of God, you created it with Him. ⁶It is yours because it is part of you, just as you are part of God because He created you. ⁷Nothing that is good can be lost because it comes from the Holy Spirit, the Voice for creation. ⁸Nothing that is not good was ever created, and therefore cannot be protected. ⁹The Atonement is the guarantee of the safety of the Kingdom, and the union of the Sonship is its protection. ¹⁰The ego cannot prevail against the Kingdom because the Sonship is united. ¹¹In the presence of those who hear the Holy Spirit’s Call to be as one, the ego fades away and is undone. Everyone is inherently loving, because our true Self is the extension of God’s Love. Any thought of fear or guilt is based on a mistaken belief in what we are. It is not real because it is not Love. It is an idea stemming from the ego’s denial of the oneness of Love.

Our misidentification with the ego has left us searching for the Love we think we lost. Love is not lost, but denial of It blocks It from our awareness. To undo this denial we need to look to a Teacher outside of the ego thought system. This Teacher, the Holy Spirit, is ever present in our mind, ready to help us see the Love beyond the ego’s denial.

He assures us that we already are the Love we seek. He is our Guide out of the ego’s denial. Today we practice pausing to let the peace of God quiet our mind and welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love.

Transcending Our Belief in Separation

You can stretch out your hand and reach to Heaven. ²You whose hand is joined with your brother’s have begun to reach beyond the body, but not outside yourself, to reach your shared Identity together. ³Could this be outside you? ⁴Where God is not? ⁵Is He a body, and did He create you as He is not, and where He cannot be? ⁶You are surrounded only by Him. ⁷What limits can there be on you whom He encompasses?

Everyone has experienced what he would call a sense of being transported beyond himself. …³It is a sense of actual escape from limitations. ⁴If you will consider what this “transportation” really entails, you will realize that it is a sudden unawareness of the body, and a joining of yourself and something else in which your mind enlarges to encompass it. …⁷What really happens is that you have given up the illusion of a limited awareness, and lost your fear of union. ⁸The love that instantly replaces it extends to what has freed you, and unites with it. ⁹And while this lasts you are not uncertain of your Identity, and would not limit It. ¹⁰You have escaped from fear to peace, asking no questions of reality, but merely accepting it. ¹¹You have accepted this instead of the body, and have let yourself be one with something beyond it, simply by not letting your mind be limited by it. We can transcend our belief in limitation. This is the lesson the Course is teaching. God is not limited and the Son he created shares all His attributes. As we let go of limiting beliefs we become aware of our true Self.

The key to letting go of our beliefs in limitation is to let the Holy Spirit guide all our perceptions and decisions. Today we practice keeping our mind open to His lead.

Remembering Our Safety in God’s Love

I am in danger nowhere in the world.

Your Son is safe wherever he may be, for You are there with him. ²He need but call upon Your Name, and he will recollect his safety and Your Love, for they are one. ³How can he fear or doubt or fail to know he cannot suffer, be endangered, or experience unhappiness, when he belongs to You, beloved and loving, in the safety of Your Fatherly embrace?

And there we are in truth. ²No storms can come into the hallowed haven of our home. ³In God we are secure. ⁴For what can come to threaten God Himself, or make afraid what will forever be a part of Him? (A Course in Miracles, W-244. See also ACIM Lesson 244 Insights.)

Because God goes with us wherever we go, we are always safe in His loving embrace. Only our mistaken identification with a body blocks our awareness of our perfect safety. We are assured of God’s protection and His Love.

Today let us look on the world through the eyes of Love. Thus we will remember we are safe.
