Release from the Ego’s Demand for Sacrifice

²You want to accept God’s plan because you share in it. ³You have no will that can really oppose it, and you do not want to do so. ⁴Salvation is for you. ⁵Above all else, you want the freedom to remember Who you really are. ⁶Today it is the ego that stands powerless before your will. ⁷Your will is free, and nothing can prevail against it.

…God’s plan for salvation, and only His, is wholly in accord with your will. ²It is not the purpose of an alien power, thrust upon you unwillingly. ³It is the one purpose here on which you and your Father are in perfect accord. ⁴You will succeed today, the time appointed for the release of the Son of God from hell and from all idle wishes. ⁵His will is now restored to [the Son of God’s] awareness. ⁶He is willing this very day to look upon the light in him and be saved.

…tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

²I will there be light. ³Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.

The ego tells us that God’s Will demands sacrifice. Yet this is a projection of its demand that we sacrifice the Love of God to obtain the specialness we seek. To have specialness, there must be differences. But there can be no differences in the oneness of God’s Love extended equally to all. God shared all of His Love when He created His Son. Differences cannot exist in Love’s oneness.

The recognition that we will there be Light is the acceptance of the Love that is our true Self. Our Self’s only desire is to be Love and nothing else. Being Love includes the continuous, joyous extension of Love without limit.

To accept Love we must give It. To know the Love we are, we must forgive the beliefs that deny Love. Through forgiveness, we see with the eyes of Love. We let go of the veil that has darkened our mind and let Love’s Light shine through us without limit. This is our only will.

Remembering We Are in Heaven Now

You are entitled to miracles because of what you are. ²You will receive miracles because of what God is. ³And you will offer miracles because you are one with God. ⁴Again, how simple is salvation! ⁵It is merely a statement of your true Identity. ⁶It is this that we will celebrate today.

Today we will claim the miracles [extensions of Love] which are your right, since they belong to you. ²You have been promised full release from the world you made.

…remind yourself that you are asking only for what is rightfully yours. ³Remind yourself also that miracles are never taken from one and given to another, and that in asking for your rights, you are upholding the rights of everyone. ⁴Miracles do not obey the laws of this world. ⁵They merely follow from the laws of God.

²Tell yourself often today:

³I am entitled to miracles.

Remember, too, not to be satisfied with less than the perfect answer. ²Be quick to tell yourself, should you be tempted:

³I will not trade miracles [extensions of Love] for grievances. ⁴I want only what belongs to me. ⁵God has established miracles as my right. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 77, W-77.1;3:1-2;4:2-5;7:2-3;8. See also ACIM Lesson 77 Insights.)

Our true Identity is one with God. All His attributes are ours—His Love, His joy and His peace. Only God’s Love is real and It extends eternally, always giving, never taking. Likewise, our true Self eternally extends Love, whether we are aware of It or not.

Our allegiance to the ego (belief in limitation and separation), makes our eternal extension of Love unconscious and unknown. To be aware of the Love we always extend, we need to let go of our wish for specialness and separation that keeps the ego in our mind. This wish splits our mind into two parts. The part the ego occupies is a dream. It is unreal and accomplishes nothing. But it makes us unaware of our real Mind that is one with the Mind of God.

The ego would have us believe that we are unworthy of miracles, we are unworthy of God’s Love extended to us without limit. This mistaken belief must be undone. If God has determined that His Son is worthy of His Love, it must be so. Reminding ourselves that we are entitled to miracles opens our split mind to be willing to accept God’s gift that is already ours.

Today’s practice brings the memory of our true Identity into the dream of separation. It brings Light into a world darkened by Love’s denial. It helps us remember we are in the Heaven of God’s Love now.

Releasing the Ego from Our Mind

All fear is past and only love is here.

All fear is past, because its source is gone, and all its thoughts gone with it. ²Love remains the only present state, whose Source is here forever and forever. ³Can the world seem bright and clear and safe and welcoming, with all my past mistakes oppressing it, and showing me distorted forms of fear? ⁴Yet in the present love is obvious, and its effects apparent. ⁵All the world shines in reflection of its holy light, and I perceive a world forgiven at last.

Father, let not Your holy world escape my sight today. ²Nor let my ears be deaf to all the hymns of gratitude the world is singing underneath the sounds of fear. ³There is a real world which the present holds safe from all past mistakes. ⁴And I would see only this world before my eyes today. The ego uses “memories” from the past to hide the presence of Love in the now moment. As long as we believe these memories are true, we will not be aware of the reality of Love in the now moment. The ego uses the past to overlook the present with made up stories about what may happen in the future. They are pure fiction based on illusions of the past.

These stories always justify fear and guilt for they are the glue that keeps the ego in our mind. Forgiveness of the past dissolves the glue. It releases the veil to reveal the present Love where we live and have our Being. This is how we make way for God’s gift of happiness and joy.

For every apprehension we can remind ourselves to forgive and the apparent cause will disappear because only Love is real.

Accepting the World’s Only Purpose

Forget not that the healing of God’s Son is all the world is for. ²That is the only purpose the Holy Spirit sees in it, and thus the only one it has. ³Until you see the healing of the Son as all you wish to be accomplished by the world, by time and all appearances, you will not know the Father nor yourself. ⁴For you will use the world for what is not its purpose, and will not escape its laws of violence and death. ⁵Yet it is given you to be beyond its laws in all respects, in every way and every circumstance, in all temptation to perceive what is not there, and all belief God’s Son can suffer pain because he sees himself as he is not.

Look on your brother, and behold in him the whole reversal of the laws that seem to rule this world. ²See in his freedom yours, for such it is. ³Let not his specialness obscure the truth in him, for not one law of death you bind him to will you escape. ⁴And not one sin you see in him but keeps you both in hell. ⁵Yet will his perfect sinlessness release you both, for holiness is quite impartial, with one judgment made for all it looks upon. ⁶And that is made, not of itself, but through the Voice that speaks for God in everything that lives and shares His Being. The ego uses judgment as a weapon to divide and conquer. This is how it maintains the illusion of separation and specialness. The Holy Spirit uses judgment to heal. Its singular judgment is very simple. It judges between the real and the unreal. It dismisses the unreal as meaningless and therefore nothing. It retains the real, recognizing it as Love and nothing else. This brings healing to the Son of God’s troubled mind. In the changelessness of Love there is no conflict, loss, harm nor lack.

As we step back and let the Holy Spirit judge all things on our behalf, we join with Holy Spirit’s purpose, the only purpose for the world. We see our brother as the Love he is instead a body, different from us. Every brother is recognized as part of our one Self, the Son of God.

Today we relinquish our own judgment and welcome the Holy Spirit’s judgment. For we would be free from fear and awaken to the changeless Love we are.

Being God’s Messenger

Would you receive the messages of God? ²For thus do you become His messenger. ³You are appointed now. ⁴And yet you wait to give the messages you have received. ⁵And so you do not know that they are yours, and do not recognize them. ⁶No one can receive and understand he has received until he gives. ⁷For in the giving is his own acceptance of what he received.

²He needs our voice that He may speak through us. ³He needs our hands to hold His messages, and carry them to those whom He appoints. ⁴He needs our feet to bring us where He wills, that those who wait in misery may be at last delivered. ⁵And He needs our will united with His Own, that we may be the true receivers of the gifts He gives.

²I am among the ministers of God, and I am grateful that I have the means by which to recognize that I am free.

The world recedes as we light up our minds, and realize these holy words are true. ²They are the message sent to us today from our Creator. ³Now we demonstrate how they have changed our minds about ourselves, and what our function is. ⁴For as we prove that we accept no will we do not share, our many gifts from our Creator will spring to our sight and leap into our hands, and we will recognize what we received. What message will we carry to the world today? Will we carry messages of fear and guilt? Or will we carry our Creator’s message that we are all united in His Love. When we judge anyone or anything in the world we have closed our mind to our Creator’s Love. Love does not condemn. Love sees only Love and innocence.

The messages we carry to the world tell it what we believe we are. If we identify with the ego and the body, we bring messages of separation, fear and guilt. We reinforce the ego’s lie that tries to convince us that specialness is better than the unity of God’s Love.

Today we choose to accept our Father’s Will as our own, for so it is in truth. We accept it by sharing it with the world. Thus we serve as God’s messengers of Love and peace.

Relinquishing Our Obsession with Specialness

My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? ²And if I see him sinful I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. ³Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. ⁴I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. ⁵And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. ⁶Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. ⁷For He alone gives judgment in Your Name. It’s time to relinquish our habit of seeing ourselves as separate from God, our brother and the world. The perception of separation reflects our belief that this illusion is real. But God is Love, and Love is one. In truth, we cannot be alone or separate. Our belief in separation costs us awareness of peace and the happiness that comes with giving and receiving Love. It is a steep price to pay for the “reward” of specialness.

By the grace of God, we have the Means within our mind to relinquish our insane obsession with specialness. The Holy Spirit’s sole purpose is to teach us to distinguish the real from the unreal. Today we choose to learn His lessons in Love’s oneness. As we welcome them, we free ourselves from the pain and fear of the ego’s illusions. We reclaim our reality and join in the joyous extension of God’s Love.

Finding Heaven Now

Can you imagine what it means to have no cares, no worries, no anxieties, but merely to be perfectly calm and quiet all the time? ²Yet that is what time is for; to learn just that and nothing more. ³God’s Teacher cannot be satisfied with His teaching until it constitutes all your learning. ⁴He has not fulfilled His teaching function until you have become such a consistent learner that you learn only of Him. ⁵When this has happened, you will no longer need a teacher or time in which to learn.

…time, according to [the ego’s] teaching, is nothing but a teaching device for compounding guilt until it becomes all-encompassing, demanding vengeance forever.

“The Holy Spirit would undo all of this now. ²Fear is not of the present, but only of the past and future, which do not exist. ³There is no fear in the present when each instant stands clear and separated from the past, without its shadow reaching out into the future. ⁴Each instant is a clean, untarnished birth, in which the Son of God emerges from the past into the present. ⁵And the present extends forever. ⁶It is so beautiful and so clean and free of guilt that nothing but happiness is there. ⁷No darkness is remembered, and immortality and joy are now.

⁵Take this very instant, now, and think of it as all there is of time. ⁶Nothing can reach you here out of the past, and it is here that you are completely absolved, completely free and wholly without condemnation. ⁷From this holy instant wherein holiness was born again you will go forth in time without fear, and with no sense of change with time. Peace and joy are within our reach now. In fact it is not a reach at all. It is in us now, eternally in the present moment. It only seems to require a reach because of layers of ego illusions from the past that cover the present moment. Only our belief in the past holds the veil of fear and guilt to hide the present where Heaven is.

In truth, we are in Heaven now. It is not off in the future. It is not something we lost in the past. We claim it now by stepping back from engagement with the world for just a moment.

The practice of pausing frequently throughout the day to welcome peace lets God’s Voice come through the ego’s chatter. In peace, we experience the now moment where we feel perfectly safe and recognize our brother as united with us as God’s one Son.
