Bringing the Light of Truth to the World

The Atonement does not make holy. ²You were created holy. ³It merely brings unholiness to holiness; or what you made to what you are. ⁴Bringing illusion to truth, or the ego to God, is the Holy Spirit’s only function. ⁵Keep not your making from your Father, for hiding it has cost you knowledge of Him and of yourself. ⁶The knowledge is safe, but where is your safety apart from it? ⁷The making of time to take the place of timelessness lay in the decision to be not as you are. ⁸Thus truth was made past, and the present was dedicated to illusion.

Bringing the ego to God is but to bring error to truth, where it stands corrected because it is the opposite of what it meets [truth]. ²It is undone because the contradiction can no longer stand. ³How long can contradiction stand when its impossible nature is clearly revealed? ⁴What disappears in light is not attacked. ⁵It merely vanishes because it is not true. ⁶Different realities are meaningless, for reality must be one. ⁷It cannot change with time or mood or chance. ⁸Its changelessness is what makes it real.

²The Atonement is so gentle you need but whisper to it, and all its power will rush to your assistance and support. ³You are not frail with God beside you. ⁴Yet without Him you are nothing. ⁵The Atonement offers you God. The ego cannot create anything because it is not real. It can only make illusions which blind us from the truth if we believe the illusions are real. The Atonement is the process of releasing us from our mistaken belief in illusions. Each time we bring an illusion that we believe is true to the truth, the illusion is dispelled. The Light of truth is allowed to shine brighter in our mind.

We bring illusions to the truth by choosing the Holy Spirit as our Interpreter of all our perceptions. The process is gentle and kind. It never increases fear. Rather it reduces fear and makes way for Love and peace to be experienced more fully. We help ourselves and the world each time we let the Holy Spirit heal our fear-based thoughts and beliefs. We bring Light to the world.

We Choose the Voice for Love Today

Judgment and love are opposites. From one come all the sorrows of the world. But from the other comes the peace of God Himself.

Forgiveness looks on sinlessness alone, and judges not. ²Through [forgiveness] I come to You. ³Judgment will bind my eyes and make me blind. ⁴Yet love, reflected in forgiveness here, reminds me You have given me a way to find Your peace again. ⁵I am redeemed when I elect to follow in this way. ⁶You have not left me comfortless. ⁷I have within me both the memory of You, and One Who leads me to it. ⁸Father, I would hear Your Voice and find Your peace today. ⁹For I would love my own Identity, and find in It the memory of You. Perception is selective. We see what we want to see that fits our belief system. Likewise, we hear what we want to hear. In the world, we carry two voices in our mind. The ego speaks first and loudly. Yet the Voice for God is ever present and can be heard at any moment, if we choose to listen. We are always selecting which voice to listen to.

Judgment is the choice to listen to the ego. It keeps our attention focused on the dream of separation. This focus excludes the Voice for Love. But we can select differently. We choose God’s Voice by accepting the peace in our mind. His Voice will lead us to forgive the mistaken beliefs that have kept us focused on separation and the guilt that comes with it.

We choose the Voice for God today, for we would remember His Love and awaken to our true Identity.

Accepting the Treasure of the Now Moment

This instant is the only time there is.

I have conceived of time in such a way that I defeat my aim. ²If I elect to reach past time to timelessness, I must change my perception of what time is for. ³Time’s purpose cannot be to keep the past and future one. ⁴The only interval in which I can be saved from time is now. ⁵For in this instant has forgiveness come to set me free. ⁶The birth of Christ is now, without a past or future. ⁷He has come to give His present blessing to the world, restoring it to timelessness and love. ⁸And love is ever-present, here and now.

Thanks for this instant, Father. ²It is now I am redeemed. ³This instant is the time You have appointed for Your Son’s release, and for salvation of the world in him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 308, See also ACIM Lesson 308 Insights.)

If we feel lonely, anxious, guilty or angry, we have forgotten our true Identity. We have forgotten that we are Love, loved and innately loving. Forgiveness is the means to remember. Forgiveness releases the past by no longer trying to bring the past to the future and overlook the now moment. Forgiveness lets go of the attempt to make a will other than God’s. It lets go of the ego’s resistance to accepting God’s Will as our own.

God’s Will for His Son, our true Self, is perfect happiness, peace and eternal Love. This is His gift, never to be withdrawn. In answer for our mistaken wish to make a will of our own, He gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us Home. It is time to fire the ego as our guide. It only directs us to the emptiness of illusions.

Today we choose the Holy Spirit by stepping back from the chaos of the world and accepting the peace within. From this place, the Holy Spirit teaches us to welcome the present moment where God’s gifts are remembered. We remember we are at Home in Love.

Choosing the Voice That Speaks of Life

Now would I be as God created me.

Today I will accept the truth about myself. ²I will arise in glory, and allow the light in me to shine upon the world throughout the day. ³I bring the world the tidings of salvation which I hear as God my Father speaks to me. ⁴And I behold the world that Christ would have me see, aware it ends the bitter dream of death; aware it is my Father’s Call to me.

Christ is my eyes today, and He the ears that listen to the Voice for God today. ²Father, I come to You through Him Who is Your Son, and my true Self as well. ³Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 237, W-237.1:1–2:3. See also ACIM Lesson 237 Insights.)

The ego denies the Life we live in God. It always speaks for death as the ultimate proof separation is real. The Holy Spirit speaks for our eternal life in God. Which voice do we choose to listen to? One choice brings us the experience of loss, sickness, sadness, lack, guilt and fear; the other Voice teaches us that we share the unspeakable joy of God, peace that can never be disturbed and unending Love.

We choose to listen to the Voice for God today by choosing peace throughout the day. In peace we welcome His lessons in Love. We remember our true Self, God’s one Son, eternally at rest in Him.

Giving Gifts of Love Instead of Fear

Today we practice with the special case of giving and receiving. ²We will use this simple lesson in the obvious because it has results we cannot miss. ³To give is to receive. ⁴Today we will attempt to offer peace to everyone, and see how quickly peace returns to us. ⁵Light is tranquility, and in that peace is vision given us, and we can see.

So we begin the practice periods with the instruction for today, and say:

²To give and to receive are one in truth.
³I will receive what I am giving now.

⁴Then close your eyes, and for five minutes think of what you would hold out to everyone, to have it yours. ⁵You might, for instance, say:

⁶To everyone I offer quietness.
⁷To everyone I offer peace of mind.
⁸To everyone I offer gentleness.

Say each one slowly and then pause a while, expecting to receive the gift you gave. ²And it will come to you in the amount in which you gave it. ³You will find you have exact return, for that is what you asked. ⁴It might be helpful, too, to think of one to whom to give your gifts. ⁵He represents the others, and through him you give to all. Whenever we see anyone as separate and different from ourself, we are giving the ego’s “gift.” It is always some form of guilt. The cost of giving this gift is reinforcement of guilt in our own mind. We must believe we are guilty to project the perception of guilt in another. This projection always reinforces our own guilt.

This lesson is teaching us how to give the gift of our true Self. This gift is always based on the innocence of God’s Love. It is the innocence of our true Self. So every form of Love’s expression in the world reminds us of the Love we are.

Today we choose Christ’s vision to see the Love that our brother’s are and remember the Love we are. We choose to give the gifts of Love instead of fear.

Finding Salvation Through Our Brothers

Let me forget my brother’s past today.

This is the thought that leads the way to You, and brings me to my goal. ²I cannot come to You without my brother. ³And to know my Source, I first must recognize what [my brother] You created one with me. ⁴My brother’s is the hand that leads me on the way to You. ⁵His sins are in the past along with mine, and I am saved because the past is gone. ⁶Let me not cherish it within my heart, or I will lose the way to walk to You. ⁷My brother is my savior. ⁸Let me not attack the savior You have given me. ⁹But let me honor him who bears Your Name, and so remember that It is my own.

Forgive me, then, today. ²And you will know you have forgiven me if you behold your brother in the light of holiness. ³He cannot be less holy than can I, and you can not be holier than he. (A Course in Miracles, W-288. See also ACIM Lesson 288 Insights.)

It seems strange that we would need to forgive Jesus. But the Course is teaching us that the holiness he represents is our own and every brother’s. We are equally holy as God’s Son.

If we judge any brother, we are not recognizing his holiness nor our own. Seen truly, every brother is our savior, for he demonstrates our eternal unity with God. We cannot see this if we trust what the body shows us, for the body shows us only illusions. The key to our salvation is accepting the Holy Spirit’s help and His gift of Christ’s vision. This is how we forgive our brother for the past the ego would lay upon him. Without the dark shadow of the past, we see the Light of Love in him and recognize it in ourselves.

We hold our brother’s hand as we let the Holy Spirit show us our unity. We walk together with our brothers into full remembrance of Love’s oneness in God.

The Path from Conflict to Peace

The Holy Spirit is the Mediator between the interpretations of the ego and the knowledge of the spirit. ²His ability to deal with symbols enables Him to work with the ego’s beliefs in its own language. ³His ability to look beyond symbols into eternity enables Him to understand the laws of God, for which He speaks. ⁴He can therefore perform the function of reinterpreting what the ego makes, not by destruction but by understanding. ⁵Understanding is light, and light leads to knowledge. ⁶The Holy Spirit is in light because He is in you who are light, but you yourself do not know this. ⁷It is therefore the task of the Holy Spirit to reinterpret you on behalf of God.

⁷Peace is the ego’s greatest enemy because, according to its interpretation of reality, war is the guarantee of its survival. ⁸The ego becomes strong in strife. ⁹If you believe there is strife you will react viciously, because the idea of danger has entered your mind. ¹⁰The idea [of danger] itself is an appeal to the ego. ¹¹The Holy Spirit is as vigilant as the ego to the call of danger, opposing it with His strength just as the ego welcomes it. ¹²The Holy Spirit counters this welcome by welcoming peace. ¹³Eternity and peace are as closely related as are time and war. The appeal of danger and conflict to the ego is evident in the subjects that make news in the media. They are all about danger from weather, disease, fellow humans, the earth itself. Entertainment programs must contain elements of conflict or they will attract very little audience. This is the ego’s bread and butter. It feeds on conflict.

But in the oneness of God’s Love, conflict is impossible. Love is our Home, our safety and peace. Though we may dream of conflict, we remain eternally at rest in God’s peace. In the dream, we forget What we are. The Holy Spirit is the means for us to find our way out of the dream. He dwells in peace within us, ready to reinterpret our misperceptions.

His guidance waits only on our welcome. We welcome the Holy Spirit by welcoming peace instead of conflict. Peace and understanding go together and are never found alone. The practice of stepping back from our involvement in the world to welcome peace frees us to awaken to the Love in which we live and have our being. We can always have peace instead of conflict.
