Willingness to Be Happy

No call to God can be unheard nor left unanswered. And of this I can be sure; His answer is the one I really want.

You Who remember what I really am alone remember what I really want. ²You speak for God, and so You speak for me. ³And what You give me comes from God Himself. ⁴Your Voice, my Father, then is mine as well, and all I want is what You offer me, in just the form You choose that it be mine. ⁵Let me remember all I do not know, and let my voice be still, remembering. ⁶But let me not forget Your Love and care, keeping Your promise to Your Son in my awareness always. ⁷Let me not forget myself is nothing, but my Self is all. The way to have a happy day is to let God’s Voice direct our day. He knows what will bring us true and lasting happiness. But are we willing to step back and let Him lead the way? This is the lesson we must learn.

The ego’s voice will always direct us to seek and not find what will bring us joy and peace of mind. It can only offer us substitutes which may offer fleeting pleasure, but never peace that cannot be disturbed and joy that is everlasting.

Today we offer our willingness to let His Voice be our Guide. We are grateful for His gift as we walk the day, guided by Love.

Trusting in the Power of God’s Love

[Trust] is the foundation on which [God’s teachers’] ability to fulfill their function rests. ²Perception is the result of learning. ³In fact, perception is learning, because cause and effect are never separated. ⁴The teachers of God have trust in the world, because they have learned it is not governed by the laws the world made up. ⁵It is governed by a power that is in them but not of them. ⁶It is this power that keeps all things safe. ⁷It is through this power that the teachers of God look on a forgiven world.

When this power has once been experienced, it is impossible to trust one’s own petty strength again. ²Who would attempt to fly with the tiny wings of a sparrow when the mighty power of an eagle has been given him? ³And who would place his faith in the shabby offerings of the ego when the gifts of God are laid before him? (A Course in Miracles, M-4.I.1:1–2:3)

When we accept that we are as God created us, we can trust that we share God’s invulnerability. Our true Self is safe in the eternal Love of God. No seeming external force can affect our one Self. The acceptance of this Reality is the essence of what A Course in Miracles is helping us learn.

Trust increases as we practice letting ourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit, moment by moment. His guidance will always show us the truth behind the appearances in this world. When we attend to the ego, we perceive cause for fear and guilt. The Holy Spirit shows us that the world has no power to affect the reality of Love.

The ego, in its denial of Love, does not know what Love is. To deny Love, it must defend against it. But its defenses fade as we accept the power of God’s Love within us. Today will be a happy day as we trust the Holy Spirit to interpret of all our perceptions on our behalf.

The Practice That Returns Us to Love

What can correct illusions but the truth? ²And what are errors but illusions that remain unrecognized for what they are? ³Where truth has entered errors disappear. ⁴They merely vanish, leaving not a trace by which to be remembered. ⁵They are gone because, without belief, they have no life. ⁶And so they disappear to nothingness, returning whence they came. ⁷From dust to dust they come and go, for only truth remains.

Can you imagine what a state of mind without illusions is? ²How it would feel? ³Try to remember when there was a time,—perhaps a minute, maybe even less—when nothing came to interrupt your peace; when you were certain you were loved and safe.

Begin by asking Him Who goes with you upon this undertaking that He be in your awareness as you go with Him. (A Course in Miracles,W-107.1:1–2:3;8:1. See also ACIM Lesson 107 Insights.)

To experience the Heaven of God’s Love, we need only remember we are the Self that is God’s Son. This memory is with us without interruption. Only the illusions we believe in interfere with our experience of Heaven. Forgiveness is the means to let Heaven return to our awareness.

Our practice today is to frequently pause and welcome His peace in our mind. As we accept this peace, truth brings Light to our mind. It shows us that we are forever safe, forever loved and loving.

Freeing Ourselves to Be Love

My only function is the one God gave me.

²I have no function but the one God gave me. ³This recognition releases me from all conflict, because it means I cannot have conflicting goals. ⁴With one purpose only, I am always certain what to do, what to say and what to think. ⁵All doubt must disappear as I acknowledge that my only function is the one God gave me.

My happiness and my function are one.

²All things that come from God are one. ³They come from Oneness, and must be received as one. ⁴Fulfilling my function is my happiness because both come from the same Source. ⁵And I must learn to recognize what makes me happy, if I would find happiness. Because God created His Son one with Himself, our function is the same as His — to extend and be Love. In this dream world, forgiveness is Love’s reflection. Whenever we forgive a perception of separation, we let Love flow freely, as is our Nature.

The ego is always on the lookout for opportunities to divide and separate. It thrives on conflict. On the other hand, our true Self sees only cause to extend Love. It joins with the Love that is everywhere. And it answers calls for Love with Love. As we fulfill this function, we are in peace and our hearts are filled with joy.

Forgiveness Answers Our Calls for Love

Judgment and love are opposites. From one come all the sorrows of the world. But from the other comes the peace of God Himself.

Forgiveness looks on sinlessness alone, and judges not. ²Through this I come to You. ³Judgment will bind my eyes and make me blind. ⁴Yet love, reflected in forgiveness here, reminds me You have given me a way to find Your peace again. ⁵I am redeemed when I elect to follow in this way. ⁶You have not left me comfortless. ⁷I have within me both the memory of You, and One Who leads me to it. ⁸Father, I would hear Your Voice and find Your peace today. ⁹For I would love my own Identity, and find in It the memory of You. Love does not judge nor condemn. It sees only Itself everywhere, and everything, for only Love is real.

We lost ourselves in a dream where Love is denied and fear reigns supreme. Yet the memory of God and all His Love remains with us still. It can never be lost because It is the memory of our true Self, united eternally with our Creator.

The chaos we see within the world is merely a call for the Love that is our true Self. In this dream, forgiveness is the way to open the door to the return of our memory that Love is our true Reality. Today we choose to answer our calls for Love by forgiving our misperceptions. In forgiveness, the memory of Love returns.

Resolution for All Conflict

Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here.

Conflict must be resolved. ²It cannot be evaded, set aside, denied, disguised, seen somewhere else, called by another name, or hidden by deceit of any kind, if it would be escaped. ³It must be seen exactly as it is, where it is thought to be, in the reality which has been given it, and with the purpose that the mind accorded it. ⁴For only then are its defenses lifted, and the truth can shine upon it as it disappears.

Father, forgiveness is the light You chose to shine away all conflict and all doubt, and light the way for our return to You. ²No light but this can end our evil dream. ³No light but this can save the world. ⁴For this alone will never fail in anything, being Your gift to Your beloved Son. The ego tells us that the way to resolve conflict is to suppress it, sidestep it, avoid it, but never face the cause. This is because when we fully recognize the cause of all conflict and let it go, the ego would simply cease to seem to exist.

Here we have the only answer to all conflict. Forgiveness lets the cause of conflict be released. It opens the door to the free flow of Love. We can recognize conflict in our mind because it always disturbs our peace. The recognition of this disturbance alerts us to the need for forgiveness.

The practice of bringing all our disturbing perceptions to the Holy Spirit helps us shine the Light of forgiveness on misperception. He will bring true perception which sees the oneness of Love that joins us with all that is real. Forgiveness is the one defense that leads us Home as we recognize there is nothing we need to defend in truth.

Joining the Eternal Flow of Love

I will receive whatever I request.

No one desires pain. ²But he can think that pain is pleasure. ³No one would avoid his happiness. ⁴But he can think that joy is painful, threatening and dangerous. ⁵Everyone will receive what he requests. ⁶But he can be confused indeed about the things he wants; the state he would attain. ⁷What can he then request that he would want when he receives it? ⁸He has asked for what will frighten him, and bring him suffering. ⁹Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may spend this day in fearlessness, without confusing pain with joy, or fear with love.

Father, this is Your day. ²It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do; requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me. (A Course in Miracles, W-339. See also ACIM Lesson 339 Insights.)

The wish for specialness, a unique identity, is a demand for what could never be real. Only the Love of God is real. His Love is given freely without exceptions or differences to all.

Our identification with the wish for specialness has made us uncertain and confused about what we want. We ask for what our Father cannot give. So we make up a story of differences that conflict, compete and make a world of chaos. Projection makes it seem we have nothing to do with what we experience from an outside world.

We are being called to change our allegiance from the ego, which divides, to our Creator, Who unifies. As we commit to listening to His Voice, we will learn to let go of our mistaken wishes and join with the eternal flow of Love.
