Accepting God’s Light as Ours

Your right mind sees only brothers, because it sees only in its own light. God has lit your mind Himself, and keeps your mind lit by His light because His light is what your mind is. (A Course in Miracles, T-7.III.4:10-5:1. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Today we practice opening to the Light of our real Mind. Our intent and willingness to open to the Light is what brings us the experience of its presence. As we place our full attention on receiving God’s Light, we allow peace, contentment and a sense of well-being to enter. We see that Love is universally true everywhere. We feel safe and fear has disappeared.

We want our right mind and because we want it we receive it. We know that we share this right mind with everyone. As we see God’s Light in others, we accept it as our own.

Seeing Past Appearances to Reality

Appearances deceive, but can be changed. Reality is changeless. It does not deceive at all, and if you fail to see beyond appearances you are deceived. For everything you see will change, and yet you thought it real before, and now you think it real again. Reality is thus reduced to form, and capable of change. Reality is changeless. It is this that makes it real, and keeps it separate from all appearances. It must transcend all form to be itself. It cannot change. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.VIII.1. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The Course has given us a very clear benchmark to help us recognize what is real and what is illusion: If it changes, it is not real. Everything we see with the body’s eyes changes. A rock seems to be changeless, but the Grand Canyon demonstrates that even stone changes over time.

With this benchmark, we can say unequivocally that the world we see is not real. This is good news. It means that we are not stuck with the world we see. If we are willing to receive the miracle offered us by the Holy Spirit, we will be given a new way of seeing.

This new way of seeing does not use the body’s eyes. It is the vision of Love that sees only formless Love everywhere in everything. It is why the early lesson states, “God is in everything I see.” We cannot see God with the body’s eyes, but we can know God through the Love that is our true Self. Nothing else exists.

Today we are willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s gift of miracles.

Accepting Treasures Beyond Measure

Behind every image I have made, the truth remains unchanged. Behind every veil I have drawn across the face of love, its light remains undimmed. Beyond all my insane wishes is my will, united with the Will of my Father. God is still everywhere and in everything forever. And we who are part of Him will yet look past all appearances, and recognize the truth beyond them all. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 56, W-pI.56.4:2-6. See also ACIM Lesson 56 Insights.)

Perfect peace, boundless joy and Love without limit are treasures beyond measure. This treasure is our inheritance, given us by our Creator. God’s Will is that we accept this gift. To know this gift is ours we need only let go of the image of a limited self, which could never be true. This is no sacrifice, but only a welcoming of the truth.

When we accept God’s Will as ours, we accept a treasure beyond measure and give up nothing that we mistakenly thought had some value. Today we would welcome our inheritance and accept our Home in Heaven.

Expressing Love in the World

There is no relationship between what is real and what you think is real. Nothing that you think are your real thoughts resemble your real thoughts in any respect. Nothing that you think you see bears any resemblance to what vision will show you.

We will attempt to leave the unreal and seek for the real. We will deny the world in favor of truth. We will not let the thoughts of the world hold us back. We will not let the beliefs of the world tell us that what God would have us do is impossible. Instead, we will try to recognize that only what God would have us do is possible.

We will also try to understand that only what God would have us do is what we want to do. And we will also try to remember that we cannot fail in doing what He would have us do. There is every reason to feel confident that we will succeed today. It is the Will of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 45, W-pI.45.1:3-5;4:2-5:3. See also ACIM Lesson 45 Insights.)

The Course tells us that there are only two orders of thought in the world — Love or a call for Love. Each calls for the same response — the extension of Love. In the world, doing what God would have us do means letting Love be our Guide in every thought and action.

The Course also tells us that forgiveness is Love’s reflection in the world. In our doing today, we are mindful that the extension of Love is our motive. Each seeming upset is a call for Love, either appearing in another person or in ourselves. The response then is to forgive to make way for Love’s extension. For all our doing in the world we ask, “Is this serving Love’s purpose?” Thus with this practice, we let Love be our Guide in all things.

Remembering to See with Forgiving Eyes

The grace of God rests gently on forgiving eyes, and everything they look on speaks of Him to the beholder. He can see no evil; nothing in the world to fear, and no one who is different from himself. And as he loves them, so he looks upon himself with love and gentleness. He would no more condemn himself for his mistakes than damn another. He is not an arbiter of vengeance, nor a punisher of sin. The kindness of his sight rests on himself with all the tenderness it offers others. For he would only heal and only bless. And being in accord with what God wills, he has the power to heal and bless all those he looks on with the grace of God upon his sight. (A Course in Miracles, T-25.VI.1. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Today we choose to be in accord with what God wills. Today we choose to see through the Light that God’s grace brings to our sight. Today we choose to see innocence instead of guilt, peace instead of conflict, strength instead of vulnerability. Today we choose to see past images of separate bodies to the one universal Love that is always there to see. Today we choose to see with God instead of through the ego’s sight.

Making Room for Truth in Our Minds

Truth will correct all errors in my mind. I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in any way. I am God’s Son, whose Self rests safely in the Mind of God.

I will forgive all things today, that I may learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to recognize my sinlessness. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 119, W-pI.119.1:1-3;2:2. See also ACIM Lesson 119 Insights.)

If we see anyone as vulnerable to harm, we also see ourselves as vulnerable. It is impossible to perceive guilt or vulnerability in others without believing we are vulnerable and guilty. Likewise, as we are able to see innocence in others with the Holy Spirit’s help, we learn of our own innocence. That is why forgiveness is the key to our happiness and release from fear.

Forgiveness opens the way for truth to enter our minds. Our practice today is to make room for truth.

Accepting Heaven’s Help

Everyone here has entered darkness, yet no one has entered it alone. Nor need he stay more than an instant. For he has come with Heaven’s Help within him, ready to lead him out of darkness into light at any time. The time he chooses can be any time, for help is there, awaiting but his choice. And when he chooses to avail himself of what is given him, then will he see each situation that he thought before was means to justify his anger turned to an event which justifies his love. He will hear plainly that the calls to war he heard before are really calls to peace. He will perceive that where he gave attack is but another altar where he can, with equal ease and far more happiness, bestow forgiveness. And he will reinterpret all temptation as just another chance to bring him joy. (A Course in Miracles, T-25.III.6. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Today we choose to accept What is given us. We have Holy Spirit’s Help every moment if we choose to open our minds to welcome and accept it. By remembering that we know nothing on our own, we are open to receiving Holy Spirit’s peace and gentleness. We open to the kind-hearted beingness that comes from the Holy Spirit. We let our minds live in Holy Spirit’s state of peace and happiness, where we see safety and innocence everywhere.

The Holy Spirit lifts the veil of the ego’s wish for conflict and guilt. With His help, we see past the veil to ever-present Love. We see innocence everywhere. This is our practice for today.
