Our Inner Guide to Love

How can illusions satisfy God’s Son?

Father, the truth belongs to me. ²My home is set in Heaven by Your Will and mine. ³Can dreams content me? ⁴Can illusions bring me happiness? ⁵What but Your memory can satisfy Your Son? ⁶I will accept no less than You have given me. ⁷I am surrounded by Your Love, forever still, forever gentle and forever safe. ⁸God’s Son must be as You created him.

Today we pass illusions by. ²And if we hear temptation call to us to stay and linger in a dream, we turn aside and ask ourselves if we, the Sons of God, could be content with dreams, when Heaven can be chosen just as easily as hell, and love will happily replace all fear. Forgiveness is the means to choose Love in this world. The world was made in opposition to God’s Love. We cannot maintain a separate identity and know Love because Love cannot be divided. Forgiveness lets go of our barriers to Love’s presence.

We are so engrossed in the dream of specialness that we cannot find a way to awaken on our own. God is aware of our need to awaken. So He gave us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide us on the path that leads to awakening to Love. The Holy Spirit recognizes our mistaken interpretations, but does not accept them as true. He is in our mind ready to offer His interpretation, which will help us recognize the Love behind the images.

We could call the Holy Spirit our inner Guide to Love. The Holy Spirit knows that only Love has meaning. He recognizes our false images as simply calls for Love. These images are calls for Love because they are barriers to Love’s presence. We are wholly immersed in Love without limit. We find happiness and peace when we forgive the barriers to Love.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Guidance Brings Peace

This day I choose to spend in perfect peace.

It does not seem to me that I can choose to have but peace today. ²And yet, my God assures me that His Son is like Himself. ³Let me this day have faith in Him Who says I am God’s Son. ⁴And let the peace I choose be mine today bear witness to the truth of what He says. ⁵God’s Son can have no cares, and must remain forever in the peace of Heaven. ⁶In His Name, I give today to finding what my Father wills for me, accepting it as mine, and giving it to all my Father’s Sons, along with me.

And so, my Father, would I pass this day with You. ²Your Son has not forgotten You. ³The peace You gave him still is in his mind, and it is there I choose to spend today. (A Course in Miracles, W-255. See also ACIM Lesson 255 Insights.)

Judgment is unavoidable in the world. But we always have a choice of which guide we choose to follow as our guide to judgment. The ego will always guide us to conflict and competition. The Holy Spirit will guide us to recognize that only Love is real. In that recognition we find peace, for Love is one. There is no conflict in what is one.

Today we remind ourselves to bring all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit to let Him replace our misperceptions with His true perception of Love’s reality. As we follow Him, we find peace.

Willingness to Accept God’s Love

Be in my mind, my Father, through the day.

Be in my mind, my Father, when I wake, and shine on me throughout the day today. ²Let every minute be a time in which I dwell with You. ³And let me not forget my hourly thanksgiving that You have remained with me, and always will be there to hear my call to You and answer me. ⁴As evening comes, let all my thoughts be still of You and of Your Love. ⁵And let me sleep sure of my safety, certain of Your care, and happily aware I am Your Son.

This is as every day should be. ²Today, practice the end of fear. ³Have faith in Him Who is your Father. ⁴Trust all things to Him. ⁵Let Him reveal all things to you, and be you undismayed because you are His Son. (A Course in Miracles, W-232. See also ACIM Lesson 232 Insights.)

The ego is always in opposition to God. In order to fulfill its desire for specialness, it must keep the oneness of God’s Love out of mind. The cost for this wish is pain and suffering, fear and death.

In this lesson we are offered a prayer to reverse the ego’s opposition. We truly do want God in our mind. The Mind of our true Self is one with the Mind of God. The split mind of the ego is only a fantasy. It conjures myriad images that seem to make a world of differences. Yet our true Mind remains whole and complete in the Mind of God.

As we are willing to accept the thoughts of Love we share with God, the guilt and fear that comes into the ego split mind fades. We rest in perfect peace, knowing we are God’s Son, forever united with Him.

How to Return to Tranquility

The stillness of the peace of God is mine.

Perhaps we are now ready for a day of undisturbed tranquility. ²If this is not yet feasible, we are content and even more than satisfied to learn how such a day can be achieved. ³If we give way to a disturbance, let us learn how to dismiss it and return to peace. ⁴We need but tell our minds, with certainty, “The stillness of the peace of God is mine,” and nothing can intrude upon the peace that God Himself has given to His Son.

Father, Your peace is mine. ²What need have I to fear that anything can rob me of what You would have me keep? ³I cannot lose Your gifts to me. ⁴And so the peace You gave Your Son is with me still, in quietness and in my own eternal love for You. Whenever our peace is disturbed, the cause is a judgment. Having an opinion on our own is hazardous to our health. It separates us from awareness of the Love we are. Separation is built into judgment because we must first see something as different from what we believe we are in order to pass some kind of judgment.

Our true Self is the same unified Love that surrounds us and is the truth in every brother. There are no differences in Love’s oneness. That is why the peace of God is ours. We remain eternally united with our Father in His Love.

Whenever we notice a disturbance of our peace, it is a reminder to step back from our judgments. We can ask for help to return to peace. In the presence of peace, we receive the Holy Spirit’s vision that shows us the true judgment that only Love is real. It shows us that the forms and differences that have disturbed us are not real. In that recognition, we freely let them go. Our tranquility is restored.

Learning to See as Love Sees

I see all things as I would have them be.

Perception follows judgment. ²Having judged, we therefore see what we would look upon. ³For sight can merely serve to offer us what we would have. ⁴It is impossible to overlook what we would see, and fail to see what we have chosen to behold. ⁵How surely, therefore, must the real world come to greet the holy sight of anyone who takes the Holy Spirit’s purpose as his goal for seeing. ⁶And he cannot fail to look upon what Christ would have him see, and share Christ’s Love for what he looks upon.

I have no purpose for today except to look upon a liberated world, set free from all the judgments I have made. ²Father, this is Your Will for me today, and therefore it must be my goal as well. A Course in Miracles, (W-312. See also ACIM Lesson 312 Insights.)

When we accept the Holy Spirit’s judgment in place of our own, we are accepting His purpose in place of the ego’s. The ego’s purpose is to divide. The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to unify in the oneness of God’s Love.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to be our Guide to true judgment. With His help, we will dismiss the unreal. We will join in the reality of Love. We will want to see the Love that is our brother, and we will see It. We will remember that we are Love as we see the Love that is our brother. We are united in the one Self we share as God’s Son.

Learning the Right Use of Judgment

I judge all things as I would have them be.

Judgment was made to be a weapon used against the truth. ²It separates what it is being used against, and sets it off as if it were a thing apart. ³And then it makes of it what you would have it be. ⁴It judges what it cannot understand, because it cannot see totality and therefore judges falsely. ⁵Let us not use it today, but make a gift of it to Him Who has a different use for it. ⁶He will relieve us of the agony of all the judgments we have made against ourselves, and re-establish peace of mind by giving us God’s Judgment of His Son.

Father, we wait with open mind today, to hear Your Judgment of the Son You love. ²We do not know him, and we cannot judge. ³And so we let Your Love decide what he whom You created as Your Son must be.” (A Course in Miracles, W-311. See also ACIM Lesson 311 Insights.)

Judgment makes division. It separates us from the truth. It separates us from what we judge. This is the ego’s purpose for judgment. It closes our mind to the truth. Because of our judgments, we perceive only what we want to be true. It seems unlikely that we would want to see war and destruction. But the ego feeds on this perception because it reinforces the “reality” of separation.

The fact is we have no true basis for any judgment we make. It is time to let judgment go. Today we welcome peace in our mind as we bring all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit. We let Him judge them as true or false, real or unreal. As we open our minds to His judgment on our behalf, we discover there is no cause for fear or guilt. We realize that truth is changeless and our judgments have no effect on it. They only block our mind from recognizing Reality as It is.

With an open mind and heart today, we welcome the Holy Spirit’s loving judgment on our behalf. We trust that He will help us experience the Love of our Father. We will know we are free to be Love.

The Bridge from Fear to Love

What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? ²And what can save the world except your Self? ³Belief is powerful indeed. ⁴The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth.

…anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. ²Now the source of thought has shifted, for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think. ³You free the past from what you thought before. ⁴You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find.

The present now remains the only time. ²Here in the present is the world set free. ³For as you let the past be lifted and release the future from your ancient fears, you find escape and give it to the world.

The world is nothing in itself. ²Your mind must give it meaning. ³And what you behold upon it are your wishes, acted out so you can look on them and think them real.

There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. ²Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly. ³Ideas leave not their source. (A Course in Miracles, W-132.1:1-4;2:1–3:3;4:1-3;5:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

We perceive this world because we wish it be there to make separation seem real. Only the belief in separation keeps us from claiming the glory of God as our own. Our true Self remains safe in the Heart of God. It shares all His attributes — His joy, His peace and His Love.

We can claim this reality by forgiving our wish for specialness. Specialness demands separation. Separation is impossible in the oneness of God’s Love. When we forgive the world for all we thought it was, it is replaced by Love’s oneness. Forgiveness is the bridge from fear to Love.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us forgive our fear-based thoughts, for we would return to Love.
