How to See the Face of Christ in Our Brothers

The Holy Spirit reaches from the Christ in you to all your dreams, and bids them come to Him, to be translated into truth. ²He will exchange them for the final dream which God appointed as the end of dreams. ³For when forgiveness rests upon the world and peace has come to every Son of God, what could there be to keep things separate, for what remains to see except Christ’s face?

And how long will this holy face be seen, when it is but the symbol that the time for learning now is over, and the goal of the Atonement has been reached at last? ²So therefore let us seek to find Christ’s face and look on nothing else. ³As we behold His glory, will we know we have no need of learning or perception or of time, or anything except the holy Self, the Christ Whom God created as His Son. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.6.4–5)

Christ is God’s Son, the one Self we all share. Christ is the Home of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the bridge between our dream of separation and lack of love, and the eternal, changeless Love of God.

The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter because He leads us out of dreams of fear and guilt. He leads us back to the peace and joy of our true Self. All that stands between our awareness of peace and happiness and the dream is our mistaken belief in a separate identity. When we are willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s loving guidance, we receive help to forgive the wish for specialness.

Today we call to our Comforter, welcoming His help to free ourselves from fear and guilt and remember we are God’s Son, the Christ. With the Holy Spirit’s help we will see the face of Christ in our brothers, and know that we are one.

We Seek Only Christ’s Vision

The gift of Christ is all I seek today.

What but Christ’s vision would I use today, when it can offer me a day in which I see a world so like to Heaven that an ancient memory returns to me? ²Today I can forget the world I made. ³Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace. ⁴Today I am redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.

And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. ²In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. ³We cannot make an offering sufficient for Your Son. ⁴But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his. When we seek only Christ’s vision, we seek to see a forgiven world. When we forgive, or let go of, our wish for specialness and separation, we will see the world Love created as one.

When we come with open hands and heart to welcome Holy Spirit’s help, we learn to overlook the false images we have made. We see the oneness of Love. We recognize our Home. All our brothers are welcome in this Home, for they are part of the one Self we share.

We choose Christ’s vision today. With this choice, we remember the Life we live in God.

How to Experience Love’s Blessing

My holiness blesses the world.

This idea contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. ²Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. ³Thus are you and the world blessed together. ⁴No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. ⁵It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. ⁶And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God.”

“⁵Yet is his wholeness restored to his awareness through your vision. ⁶Your holiness blesses him by asking nothing of him. ⁷Those who see themselves as whole make no demands.

“Your holiness is the salvation of the world. ²It lets you teach the world that it is one with you, not by preaching to it, not by telling it anything, but merely by your quiet recognition that in your holiness are all things blessed along with you.”

“…close your eyes and apply the idea to any person who occurs to you, using his name and saying:

⁶My holiness blesses you, [name].”

Our holiness sees only Love’s oneness. Our true Self is only Love and knows Its unity with all That is. As Love’s extension, our function is to extend Love.

As we practice seeing through the eyes of Love, we extend Love to every brother. Seeing this Love in our brother reminds us of the Love we are. Love heals mistaken beliefs in lack and loss of Love.

Today we practice bringing blessing to the world by extending the Love, given us by our Creator, to every brother. In this extension, we experience Love’s blessing.

In Gratitude We Accept God’s Love

My holy brother, think of this awhile: The world you see does nothing. ²It has no effects at all. ³It merely represents your thoughts. ⁴And it will change entirely as you elect to change your mind, and choose the joy of God as what you really want. ⁵Your Self is radiant in this holy joy, unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable, forever and forever. ⁶And would you deny a little corner of your mind its own inheritance, and keep it as a hospital for pain; a sickly place where living things must come at last to die?

Pain is illusion; joy, reality. ⁵Pain is but sleep; joy is awakening. ⁶Pain is deception; joy alone is truth.

And so again we make the only choice that ever can be made; we choose between illusions and the truth, or pain and joy, or hell and Heaven. ²Let our gratitude unto our Teacher fill our hearts, as we are free to choose our joy instead of pain, our holiness in place of sin, the peace of God instead of conflict, and the light of Heaven for the darkness of the world. We have a choice, today and every day while we believe we are a body in a world of separation. We are always free to change our mind about what we want.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can learn to recognize the thoughts that interfere with our awareness of joy. His role is to help us heal or forgive those mistaken thoughts. As we let them go, the joy of Love dawns upon our mind. The truth replaces illusions. We remember we live in joy. Peace and happiness are our natural state as God’s Son.

We choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to free ourselves from the false idea that we are separate. We are grateful that we remain in the oneness of God’s Love.

Accepting the Holy Spirit’s Judgment

³You cannot judge. ⁴You merely can believe the ego’s judgments, all of which are false. ⁵It guides your senses carefully, to prove how weak you are; how helpless and afraid, how apprehensive of just punishment, how black with sin, how wretched in your guilt.

⁶Let Him be Judge… of everything that seems to happen to you in this world. ⁷His lessons will enable you to bridge the gap between illusions and the truth.

He will remove all faith that you have placed in pain, disaster, suffering and loss. ²He gives you vision which can look beyond these grim appearances, and can behold the gentle face of Christ in all of them. ³You will no longer doubt that only good can come to you who are beloved of God, for He will judge all happenings, and teach the single lesson that they all contain.

He will select the elements in them which represent the truth, and disregard those aspects which reflect but idle dreams. ²And He will reinterpret all you see, and all occurrences, each circumstance, and every happening that seems to touch on you in any way from His one frame of reference, wholly unified and sure. ³And you will see the love beyond the hate, the constancy in change, the pure in sin, and only Heaven’s blessing on the world. We live in the oneness of Love. That is the frame of reference on which the Holy Spirit judges all things. Being the only Reality, nothing exists outside of Love.

When we identify with the ego and its central figure the body, the Holy Spirit’s reference is invisible. We do not realize where we live in truth. And so, every day seems to be one of struggling to survive. Our identity seems to be vulnerable to change. We need to defend it against external forces which we cannot control. This is not a peaceful existence.

While we seem to struggle, the Holy Spirit knows we remain safe in the changelessness of God’s Love. He speaks to us of Love. If we are willing to quiet our minds and welcome His judgment that only Love is real, we free ourselves from the dream of vulnerability and weakness. We see past the images to the presence of Love. We feel the safety and strength of God’s Love in us and all around. Today we practice keeping our mind open to the Holy Spirit’s judgment.

In Quiet We Recognize We Are Only Love

All fear is past and only love is here.

All fear is past, because its source is gone, and all its thoughts gone with it. ²Love remains the only present state, whose Source is here forever and forever. ³Can the world seem bright and clear and safe and welcoming, with all my past mistakes oppressing it, and showing me distorted forms of fear? ⁴Yet in the present love is obvious, and its effects apparent. ⁵All the world shines in reflection of its holy light, and I perceive a world forgiven at last.

Father, let not Your holy world escape my sight today. ²Nor let my ears be deaf to all the hymns of gratitude the world is singing underneath the sounds of fear. ³There is a real world which the present holds safe from all past mistakes. ⁴And I would see only this world before my eyes today. The ego dwells entirely in the past. It makes up stories of things to come based on past experiences. All judgments are based upon these past memories. It knows nothing of the present moment, and diligently avoids it. But awareness of the present moment is still available to us. Because the present is always peaceful, we access it by relaxing and letting our minds be quiet. In quietness, all seeming problems are resolved. Love is accepted.

When we accept Love, we see only Love. Fear is impossible in the power of Love’s presence. Today we remember to step back whenever our peace is disturbed to pause and quiet our minds. In quiet the presence of Love is recognized.

Choosing to See with Love

Creation’s gentleness is all I see.

I have indeed misunderstood the world, because I laid my sins on it and saw them looking back at me. ²How fierce they seemed! ³And how deceived was I to think that what I feared was in the world, instead of in my mind alone. ⁴Today I see the world in the celestial gentleness with which creation shines. ⁵There is no fear in it. ⁶Let no appearance of my sins obscure the light of Heaven shining on the world. ⁷What is reflected there is in God’s Mind. ⁸The images I see reflect my thoughts. ⁹Yet is my mind at one with God’s. ¹⁰And so I can perceive creation’s gentleness.

In quiet would I look upon the world, which but reflects Your Thoughts, and mine as well. ²Let me remember that they are the same, and I will see creation’s gentleness. (A Course in Miracles, W-265. See also ACIM Lesson 265 Insights.)

Our real Thoughts are the Thoughts we share with God. Because only Love is real, these are Thoughts that extend Love. To see Creation’s gentleness is to see Love.

A dream represents thoughts that are not real, and have no effect on reality. To choose to see Creation’s gentleness is to awaken to the loving Thoughts in our mind that come from our true Self. These Thoughts are reflected back to us in the world when we have forgiven it for all we dreamed it was.

Today we choose to see with Love.
