Accepting Our Place in the Heart and Mind of God

You are one Self, united and secure in light and joy and peace. You are God’s Son, one Self, with one Creator and one goal; to bring awareness of this oneness to all minds, that true creation may extend the allness and the unity of God. You are one Self, complete and healed and whole, with power to lift the veil of darkness from the world, and let the light in you come through to teach the world the truth about yourself.

You are one Self, in perfect harmony with all there is, and all that there will be. You are one Self, the holy Son of God, united with your brothers in that Self; united with your Father in His Will. Feel this one Self in you, and let It shine away all your illusions and your doubts. This is your Self, the Son of God Himself, sinless as Its Creator, with His strength within you and His Love forever yours. You are one Self, and it is given you to feel this Self within you, and to cast all your illusions out of the one Mind that is this Self, the holy truth in you. Ultimately we all have one goal: To bring awareness of our oneness in God’s Love to all minds. That seems like a lofty goal. But the goal is achievable through one simple practice. The practice of stepping aside in each moment to allow the wisdom and vision of the Holy Spirit to come through is how we let Holy Spirit teach us to see the reality of Oneness.

This is the practice of forgiveness. Each time we remember to do this, we are fulfilling our purpose. We take a step closer to the experience of God’s peace. We take a step closer to the experience of God’s joy. Adversaries are transformed into friends, for we recognize our shared goal. As we join with our brothers in our shared goal, we are accepting our one Self and accepting our place in the heart and Mind of God.

Teach Only Love

…to teach is to learn, so that teacher and learner are the same. It also emphasizes that teaching is a constant process; it goes on every moment of the day, and continues into sleeping thoughts as well.

To teach is to demonstrate. There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time. From your demonstration others learn, and so do you.

Each teaching-learning situation involves a different relationship at the beginning, although the ultimate goal is always the same; to make of the relationship a holy relationship, in which both can look upon the Son of God as sinless. There is no one from whom a teacher of God cannot learn, so there is no one whom he cannot teach. However, from a practical point of view he cannot meet everyone, nor can everyone find him. Therefore, the plan includes very specific contacts to be made for each teacher of God. There are no accidents in salvation. Those who are to meet will meet, because together they have the potential for a holy relationship. They are ready for each other. (A Course in Miracles, M-in.1:5-2:3;M-3.1:2-8)

We teach with our thoughts, whether our body seems to be alone or with another body, even while the body sleeps. Our thoughts reflect what we believe. If our thoughts are about fear, guilt and judgment, we are believing we are separate and teaching that we are separate, alone and guilty.

This is why the Course tells us that we change the world by changing our thoughts about the world. We change our thoughts by changing what we believe. Do we believe the ego story of separation, sin, fear and guilt? Or do we believe the Holy Spirit’s message that we remain Love as Love created us, innocent and complete?

To change our thoughts and teach innocence and Love, we need to let ourselves be led by the Teacher of Love, Who is not deceived by the ego’s stories of separation and fear. The Holy Spirit will guide us truly to see past the false images to the changeless, eternal Love that is ever present. We need only be willing to follow.

The Holy Spirit’s Plan of Forgiveness

To forgive is to overlook. Look, then, beyond error and do not let your perception rest upon it, for you will believe what your perception holds. Accept as true only what your brother is, if you would know yourself. Perceive what he is not and you cannot know what you are, because you see him falsely. Remember always that your Identity is shared, and that Its sharing is Its reality.

You have a part to play in the Atonement, but the plan of the Atonement is beyond you. You do not understand how to overlook errors, or you would not make them. It would merely be further error to believe either that you do not make them, or that you can correct them without a Guide to correction. And if you do not follow this Guide, your errors will not be corrected. (A Course in Miracles, T-9.IV.1:2-2:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

We cannot forgive when our thinking is directed by the false thought system of the ego. It is impossible for false ideas to recognize Truth or teach us what It is.

Fortunately our Creator has placed a Guide in our mind that recognizes the ego thought system as false and does not believe it. It is to this Guide we must turn day by day and moment by moment to help us overlook the false ideas of the ego and see past them to Truth.

Our inner Guide will show us that only Love is real. It will show us that behavior and words which do not reflect Love are simply a call for Love. As we follow this Guide, we will learn to respond to all situations with Love.

We are not alone. We have a Guide Whose function is to lead us out of our self-made dream of fear and guilt. As we are willing to accept this Guidance from within, we learn that we remain Love as Love created us. We see the innocence in our brother and recognize it as a reflection of our own innocence. This is Holy Spirit’s plan of forgiveness.

Extending Love Brings Happiness with It

The attraction of guilt produces fear of love, for love would never look on guilt at all. It is the nature of love to look upon only the truth, for there it sees itself, with which it would unite in holy union and completion. As love must look past fear, so must fear see love not. For love contains the end of guilt, as surely as fear depends on it. Love is attracted only to love.

Love’s messengers are gently sent, and return with messages of love and gentleness. The messengers of fear are harshly ordered to seek out guilt…

The Holy Spirit has given you love’s messengers to send instead of those you trained through fear. They are as eager to return to you what they hold dear as are the others. If you send [love’s messengers] forth, they will see only the blameless and the beautiful, the gentle and the kind. They will be as careful to let no little act of charity, no tiny expression of forgiveness, no little breath of love escape their notice. (A Course in Miracles, T-19.IV.A.10:1-5;11:1-2;14:1-4. Today we practice seeking and finding the truth of Love in our brothers. We let the Holy Spirit guide our vision to see past the ego’s images of fear and guilt. Because we are seeking only Love, we find only Love. As we practice this today, happiness comes with it. Our day is blessed because when we bless and are blessed. O what a happy day!

Accepting God’s Will

It is God’s Will your mind be one with His. It is God’s Will that He has but one Son. It is God’s Will that His one Son is you. Think of these things in practicing today, and start the lesson that we learn today with this instruction in the way of truth:

Salvation is my only function here.
Salvation and forgiveness are the same.

Then turn to Him Who shares your function here, and let Him teach you what you need to learn to lay all fear aside, and know your Self as Love which has no opposite in you.

Forgive all thoughts which would oppose the truth of your completion, unity and peace. You cannot lose the gifts your Father gave. You do not want to be another self. You have no function that is not of God. Forgive yourself the one you think you made. Forgiveness and salvation are the same. Forgive what you have made and you are saved. We are forever complete in the unity of God’s Love and peace. We need only forgive or let go of our mistaken belief that we are separate from God to let our unity and Love return to our awareness.

Because we have taught ourselves to believe in the world of separation we made, we need help from outside our belief system to learn that we remain as Love created us. That Help is always with us and available whenever we are willing to accept It.

Frequent daily practice of taking time to step back in the moment with willingness to be inspired with the Holy Spirit’s way of seeing is how we return to awareness that we remain one with Love. This is the practice of forgiveness, of letting go of self-made barriers to the awareness of Love’s presence. This is how we accept God’s Will for us.

We Let the Christ in Us Lead the Way

Where could your peace arise but from forgiveness? The Christ in you looks only on the truth, and sees no condemnation that could need forgiveness. He is at peace because He sees no sin. Identify with Him, and what has He that you have not? He is your eyes, your ears, your hands, your feet. How gentle are the sights He sees, the sounds He hears. How beautiful His hand that holds His brother’s, and how lovingly He walks beside him, showing him what can be seen and heard, and where he will see nothing and there is no sound to hear. Here we see that Christ is in us and works through us. As we identify with Him, we feel the peace that comes with seeing past the world of specialness to the oneness forgiveness brings. We take our brothers hand in Love, to guide him along the way to truth that we have found. We experience the joy of joining with our brother as we let the Christ in us lead the way Home to our Father.

Undoing Our False Ideas

…the recognition that you do not understand is a prerequisite for undoing your false ideas.

It is difficult for the untrained mind to believe that what it seems to picture is not there. This idea can be quite disturbing, and may meet with active resistance in any number of forms. Yet that does not preclude applying it. No more than that is required for these or any other exercises. Each small step will clear a little of the darkness away, and understanding will finally come to lighten every corner of the mind that has been cleared of the debris that darkens it. We have filled our minds with the false ideas of separation from our Source. The more we practice stepping back from what we think we know and opening our mind to the Source of Inspiration That is always with us, the more our minds are healed.

As we continue opening to this Source, we learn that our true nature is Love and that we are still as God created us…

As we practice seeing only Love where we once saw lovelessness, we are filled with Love’s peace and joy…

We are open to experiencing the truth that we are eternal Love…

We are one with God’s Love and nothing else… False ideas of being separate from Love disappear in the Light of Truth.
