Choosing to Follow the Guide to Joy

I see all things as I would have them be.

Perception follows judgment. ²Having judged, we therefore see what we would look upon. ³For sight can merely serve to offer us what we would have. ⁴It is impossible to overlook what we would see, and fail to see what we have chosen to behold. ⁵How surely, therefore, must the real world come to greet the holy sight of anyone who takes the Holy Spirit’s purpose as his goal for seeing. ⁶And he cannot fail to look upon what Christ would have him see, and share Christ’s Love for what he looks upon.

I have no purpose for today except to look upon a liberated world, set free from all the judgments I have made. ²Father, this is Your Will for me today, and therefore it must be my goal as well. (A Course in Miracles, W-312. See also ACIM Lesson 312 Insights.)

There is a path we can follow that leads to the Heaven of God’s Love. Everyone is on that path. For most of us it seems to have many twists and turns—times bright with Love and other times dark with fear.

We have been given a Guide Whose only purpose is to keep the Light shining on the path to Heaven. When we follow Him and only Him, the path is straight. Fear is dispelled. Happiness is a consistent quality in our life, for He is the Guide to joy. He reminds us that God’s Will for us is perfect happiness and peace. He offers us Christ’s vision which shows us our unity in Love with all Reality.

Today we choose to follow this Guide and disregard our past judgments which have kept us separate from our brothers. Now we would remember that we are one in the Love of God.

Being a Teacher of Love

The Holy Spirit needs my voice today, that all the world may listen to Your Voice, and hear Your Word through me. ²I am resolved to let You speak through me, for I would use no words but Yours, and have no thoughts which are apart from Yours, for only Yours are true. ³I would be savior to the world I made. ⁴For having damned it I would set it free, that I may find escape, and hear the Word Your holy Voice will speak to me today.

We teach today what we would learn, and that alone. ²And so our learning goal becomes an unconflicted one, and possible of easy reach and quick accomplishment. ³How gladly does the Holy Spirit come to rescue us from hell, when we allow His teaching to persuade the world, through us, to seek and find the easy path to God. The Holy Spirit calls to us unceasingly. Are we willing to listen? We demonstrate our willingness when we pause in the midst of our daily activities to step back in our mind from our engagement in the world. We ask in humbleness, without conditions on what we are willing to receive.

We welcome the peace of God in our minds to help us overlook the ego’s chatter. We remember that in quietness every perceived problem is resolved. In quietness we welcome the Love being given to us without limit. We accept this Love by joining with It to extend It to the world.

The Love we are freely joins with God’s world of Love. Old habits of judgment fade away in the Light of Love. We see clearly now, for we have passed by the dark shadows of beliefs in separation. We become messengers of Love expressing in the world.

Reclaiming Our Birthright as God’s Son

The holy Christ is born in me today.

Watch with me, angels, watch with me today. ²Let all God’s holy Thoughts surround me, and be still with me while Heaven’s Son is born. ³Let earthly sounds be quiet, and the sights to which I am accustomed disappear. ⁴Let Christ be welcomed where He is at home. ⁵And let Him hear the sounds He understands, and see but sights that show His Father’s Love. ⁶Let Him no longer be a stranger here, for He is born again in me today.

Your Son is welcome, Father. ²He has come to save me from the evil [separate, loveless] self I made. ³He is the Self that You have given me. ⁴He is but what I really am in truth. ⁵He is the Son You love above all things. ⁶He is my Self as You created me. ⁷It is not Christ that can be crucified. ⁸Safe in Your Arms let me receive Your Son. The ego’s refusal to accept the oneness of God’s Love is the root of all feelings of guilt, shame, loneliness and fear. This is what we experience while we believe we are the ego.

But we could never be the ego because we were created to be Love by Love. When we let go of our mistaken belief that we are separate, we will remember we are Christ, the holy Son of God.

Every time we experience a disturbance to our peace of mind, we are being shown a belief that is blocking our awareness of our true Self. It is an opportunity to let the Holy Spirit help us release our misperception and welcome the vision of Christ. We learn that nothing can change the eternal fact that we are changeless Love, united with our Creator. Peace is restored to our holy Mind.

Choosing the Channel with Christ’s Vision

The gift of Christ is all I seek today.

What but Christ’s vision would I use today, when it can offer me a day in which I see a world so like to Heaven that an ancient memory returns to me? ²Today I can forget the world I made. ³Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace. ⁴Today I am redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.

And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. ²In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. ³We cannot make an offering sufficient for Your Son. ⁴But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his. What channel will we choose to listen to today? We can follow our old habit of choosing the ego channel. We will see a world of conflict, chaos, fear and guilt. It’s not a pretty picture, for it lacks Love, our only true Reality.

We can change the channel we pay attention to. We can choose Christ’s vision. This vision is crystal clear when we accept it fully. It is calm and free of conflict. It shows us only Love is real. We see the innocence of Love in everyone and everywhere. It is a brilliant Light that brings joy to our heart as it shines away all shadows of fear and guilt. When we see It, we want to join with It. No longer is it an image off in the distance, separate and distinct from our identity. With Christ’s vision we experience our true Identity as Love united with every brother and our Creator.

Choosing this channel is the way to remember we are God’s Son, complete and whole, shining in the radiance of Love.

Opening to Our True Identity

Father, our eyes are opening at last. ²Your holy world awaits us, as our sight is finally restored and we can see. ³We thought we suffered. ⁴But we had forgot the Son whom You created. ⁵Now we see that darkness is our own imagining, and light is there for us to look upon. ⁶Christ’s vision changes darkness into light, for fear must disappear when love has come. ⁷Let me forgive Your holy world today, that I may look upon its holiness and understand it but reflects my own.

Our Love awaits us as we go to Him, and walks beside us showing us the way. ²He fails in nothing. ³He the End we seek, and He the Means by which we go to Him. (A Course in Miracles, W-302.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 302 Insights.)

The Son of God is our true Identity. Only our judgment hides the Light of Love we are from our awareness. Love does not judge. It sees no differences, only Itself reflected back. As we let Christ’s vision show us the Light in which we dwell, the darkness of our judgment is dispelled.

Fear is gone where no cause for conflict is perceived. Our forgiveness clears our vision to look upon our Self who is the holy Son of God Himself. Nothing has occurred to change God’s one Son. We remember we live and have our being in the holy House of Love forever.

Acknowledging the Will We Share with God

Father, Your Will is mine, and only that. ²There is no other will for me to have. ³Let me not try to make another will, for it is senseless and will cause me pain. ⁴Your Will alone can bring me happiness, and only Yours exists. ⁵If I would have what only You can give, I must accept Your Will for me, and enter into peace where conflict is impossible, Your Son is one with You in being and in will, and nothing contradicts the holy truth that I remain as You created me.

And with this prayer we enter silently into a state where conflict cannot come, because we join our holy will with God’s, in recognition that they are the same. (A Course in Miracles, W-307.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 307 Insights.)

Conflict is impossible in the oneness of Love. But the wish for specialness demands that differences be real to establish uniqness. Conflict and loss of peace are the inevitable effects of the wish for specialness.

If we want to be happy and at peace, we must forgive the wish to be special. We must let go of our denial of the Will we share with God. In truth, our heart’s desire is to extend the Love that God has given His Son, our true Self.

Today we use the prayer in this Lesson to acknowledge the Will we share with God. We will find great joy in extending His Love to the world. And our minds will return to the peace that is its natural state.

The Practice That Leads to Peace

This is a day of stillness and of peace.

Christ’s vision looks through me today. ²His sight shows me all things forgiven and at peace, and offers this same vision to the world. ³And I accept this vision in its name, both for myself and for the world as well. ⁴What loveliness we look upon today! ⁵What holiness we see surrounding us! ⁶And it is given us to recognize it is a holiness in which we share; it is the Holiness of God Himself.

This day my mind is quiet, to receive the Thoughts You offer me. ²And I accept what comes from You, instead of from myself. ³I do not know the way to You. ⁴But You are wholly certain. ⁵Father, guide Your Son along the quiet path that leads to You. ⁶Let my forgiveness be complete, and let the memory of You return to me. (A Course in Miracles, W-291. See also ACIM Lesson 291 Insights.)

The ego is terrified of peace. It offers countless activities we believe are important for our “survival.” In case that’s not enough, it directs us on countless quests for happiness guaranteed to fail. Yet the peace we truly seek is in us right now.

The way to find it is to step back from our involvement in the world, perhaps for just a moment. With practice we can train our minds to reconnect easily with our center of peace. We need to discipline our mind to disengage from the ego’s temptations that have kept us busy.

The ACIM Workbook lessons offer mind training that helps us develop the habit of remembering the peace of God that is in us now. With this practice, every day can be one of stillness and peace. This practice leads us to recognize what is meaningful and what is not, real or unreal. Our activities in the world become opportunities to answer calls for Love with Love and to join with the Love that surrounds us and is in every brother.  Today is a good day to practice.
