Finding the Peace of God Within

Why wait for Heaven? Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes. The light is in them now. Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all.

Sit quietly and close your eyes. The light within you is sufficient. It alone has power to give the gift of sight to you. Exclude the outer world, and let your thoughts fly to the peace within. They know the way. For honest thoughts, untainted by the dream of worldly things outside yourself, become the holy messengers of God Himself. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.188.1:1-4;6)

It’s interesting to observe how my habitual thoughts about things in the world distract me from being aware of the peace of God within. That is their purpose.

The ego thought system does not want us to be aware of the peace of God within, because to do that we have to put the ego aside. It can no longer be in control. The experience of the peace of God is so compelling that, if we let it in, we would fly to it and let the ego go.

While thoughts of the world still seem to have appeal, our practice is to pause frequently throughout the day to welcome peace. Even if we are not able to completely set aside thoughts of the world, this practice loosens their grip and will ultimately lead to the acceptance of God’s peace, returning us to Heaven where we belong.

Accept the Quietness of Heaven

The Holy Spirit mediates between illusions and the truth. Since He must bridge the gap between reality and dreams, perception leads to knowledge through the grace that God has given Him, to be His gift to everyone who turns to Him for truth.

Accept your Father’s gift. It is a Call from Love to Love, that It be but Itself. The Holy Spirit is His gift, by which the quietness of Heaven is restored to God’s beloved Son. Would you refuse to take the function of completing God, when all He wills is that you be complete? (A Course in Miracles W-pII.7.1:1-2;5:1-4)

This world is a world of turmoil because it is a dream of constant change. It is impossible to experience the peace of Heaven in this world because true peace can be found only in the changelessness of Love.

We made the ability to perceive in order to see the projected world of separation and individuality. Projection makes perception.

By the grace of God, the ability to perceive can be redirected through the Holy Spirit to see the face of Christ, the face of innocence. Under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, our perception becomes the means by which we forgive everything in the dream. It is how we pass by the dream so that we can once again accept and experience the quietness of Heaven.

Today our focus is to let the Holy Spirit guide all our perceptions.

Returning to Peace Eternal

Let us think about all things we saved to settle by ourselves, and kept apart from healing. Let us give them all to Him Who knows the way to look upon them so that they will disappear. Truth is His message; truth His teaching is. His are the lessons God would have us learn.

Let no one hour cast its shadow on the one that follows, and when that one goes, let everything that happened in its course go with it. Thus will you remain unbound, in peace eternal in the world of time.

This is the lesson God would have you learn: There is a way to look on everything that lets it be to you another step to Him, and to salvation of the world. To all that speaks of terror, answer thus:

I will forgive, and this will disappear.

To every apprehension, every care and every form of suffering, repeat these selfsame words. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.193.11:4-7;12:4-5;13:1-4)

Because we are still as God created us, we live in peace eternally. When we are in peace, we are aware that we are one with all Love, because God has shared all His Love with the whole Sonship.

Today we would let all thoughts that are not of God be healed through our forgiveness. Today is another day of letting go and accepting Holy Spirit’s lessons of forgiveness. This is how we help ourselves, along with all our brothers, to return to peace eternal. This is how we return to our one true Identity as one with all Love.

Accepting Peace and Joy

If God’s Will for you is complete peace and joy, unless you experience only this you must be refusing to acknowledge His Will. His Will does not vacillate, being changeless forever. When you are not at peace it can only be because you do not believe you are in Him. Yet He is All in all. His peace is complete, and you must be included in it. His laws govern you because they govern everything. You cannot exempt yourself from His laws, although you can disobey them. Yet if you do, and only if you do, you will feel lonely and helpless, because you are denying yourself everything. (A Course in Miracles T-8.IV.1)

Accepting God’s peace and joy is the same as accepting our true Identity. Today is dedicated to accepting our true Identity, which means accepting everyone’s true Identity. Everyone we meet or even think of today we choose see as one with our Father and our Self. This practice brings with it the peace and joy that is ours forever as God’s creation.

Oneness Is Joy. Separation Is Pain

Share in His Will and you share what He knows. Deny His Will as yours, and you are denying His Kingdom and yours.

What is joyful to you is painful to the ego, and as long as you are in doubt about what you are, you will be confused about joy and pain.

Miracles are in accord with the Will of God, Whose Will you do not know because you are confused about what you will. This means that you are confused about what you are. If you are God’s Will and do not accept His Will, you are denying joy. The miracle is therefore a lesson in what joy is. Being a lesson in sharing it is a lesson in love, which is joy. Every miracle is thus a lesson in truth, and by offering truth you are learning the difference between pain and joy. (A Course in Miracles T-7.X.2:6-7;3:6;8:1-6)

God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. If we don’t experience perfect happiness, it is because we are choosing separation and denying God’s Will that we remain one with Him, and experiencing the painful consequence. The choice to believe we are a separate identity in a world of separation is the denial of our true Will, which we share with God in truth. The antidote to unhappiness would seem to be obvious: Stop denying our Will and God’s, which is to be happy.

But we choose to believe we are separate because we believe that the specialness of individuality offers us something of greater value than God’s perfect happiness. Put that way, this choice seems insane. It is. That is why we need the help of the sanity of the Holy Spirit to lead us out of the insane thought system we have identified with.

To accept the happiness that is God’s Will for us, we need the help of a sane Guide to lead us out of our insanity. This is why the frequent practice of pausing to connect with the peace within and opening our minds to willingly receive Holy Spirit’s inspiration is the path to happiness. This is our practice today.

We Are All Immersed in God’s Peace and Love Right Now

Today we are willing to accept the truth about ourselves. In truth we are united as one in God’s Love. In truth we are one with God’s peace and joy in the eternal Present.

We will accept the truth today and enjoy the benefits of being willing to receive God’s gifts of peace and Love. Inherent in receiving God’s gifts is sharing God’s gifts. Our one true Identity is all there is to see and know and love. With Holy Spirit’s help, we will see past the images of the world to the Love that unites us with all our brothers and all that is real. This is how we will learn to recognize our true Identity.

Accepting Our True Inheritance

Heaven itself is reached with empty hands and open minds, which come with nothing to find everything and claim it as their own. We will attempt to reach this state today, with self-deception laid aside, and with an honest willingness to value but the truly valuable and the real. Our two extended practice periods of fifteen minutes each begin with this:

I will not value what is valueless, and only what has value do I seek, for only that do I desire to find.

And then receive what waits for everyone who reaches, unencumbered, to the gate of Heaven, which swings open as he comes. Should you begin to let yourself collect some needless burdens, or believe you see some difficult decisions facing you, be quick to answer with this simple thought:

I will not value what is valueless, for what is valuable belongs to me. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.133.13-14)

In every now moment, we have the opportunity to receive the gift of true perception from the Holy Spirit. To receive the gift we need to be willing to set aside the values we have given to the images in the world. We need to have a quiet, open mind. When we are willing, the Holy Spirit takes us past the stories of the world to show us our true inheritance.

In truth, we are pure Spirit That has been given all That is. God has shared all of Himself with us. We already have all Love. As we accept the Love we are, we naturally share it equally with everyone, because that is the nature of Love. When we stop valuing the valueless, we accept what we have been given and really are. We accept Love and extend only Love.
