Choosing to Be Free

Every brother you meet becomes a witness for Christ or for the ego, depending on what you perceive in him. Everyone convinces you of what you want to perceive, and of the reality of the kingdom you have chosen for your vigilance. Everything you perceive is a witness to the thought system you want to be true. Every brother has the power to release you, if you choose to be free. (A Course in Miracles T-11.V.18:1-4)

Our practice for today is to choose freedom instead of the tyranny of the ego. We are all surrounded and enfolded in the Light of the one Christ Mind. Whether we choose to recognize It is up to us in each moment of the day. Accepting the peace and Love of the Christ Mind, our real Mind, is how we find our freedom. We become witnesses for Christ instead of the ego’s images of separate bodies. We become witnesses to Love’s all-encompassing oneness instead of the ego’s belief in separation from God. We choose to be free today by becoming witnesses for God and His eternal Light.

We witness for God by demonstrating that we accept the oneness of the Love that we are. With this acceptance, we see only Love in our brother and identify only with the loving Self that we are. With this acceptance, we experience the joyous flow of Love to Love, seeing no distance or separation between us and our brothers. This is the happiness God wills for us.

Letting Christ Express Through Us

It cannot be that it is hard to do the task that Christ appointed you to do, since it is He Who does it. And in the doing of it will you learn the body merely seems to be the means to do it. For the Mind is His. And so it must be yours. His Holiness directs the body through the mind at one with Him. (A Course in Miracles T-25.I.1:1-5)

All efforting comes from thinking we are separate and alone. That belief in separation denies the strength of Christ in us. It denies that we remain as God created us. It denies that we share God’s Will.

All this denial is tiring. It leaves us drained at the end of the day so that we have to rest the body that is the symbol of this separation. All we need to do to be revitalized in truth is to accept the Life that is already in us and is What we are in truth.

With this acceptance we no longer need to defend against or fear the Will of God. In fact we joyously accept this Will, which is our happiness. When we accept this Will we share with God, we accept the Christ that we are and all our doing becomes simply a matter of letting Christ express through us. There is nothing else to do. Today we practice stepping back and letting Christ express through us.

Let Him Lead the Way

Let Him evaluate each thought that comes to mind, remove the elements of dreams, and give them back again as clean ideas that do not contradict the Will of God.

…Now has our ministry begun at last, to carry round the world the joyous news that truth has no illusions, and the peace of God, through us, belongs to everyone. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.151.13:4,17:3)

If we want to be happy, we need to let go of trying to interpret anything on our own. Believing that we are on our own is the denial of happiness because it is the denial of the Self that God created as His Son. This is why the practice of letting the Holy Spirit, our true Self, be the Interpreter of everything is the key to happiness. He knows that nothing that the body’s senses perceive means anything and looks past it to the truth that is the Spirit of Love in everyone and everything. It is the recognition of this that brings happiness. We want to be happy and so our practice today is to put the Holy Spirit to the forefront of our minds as our preferred Interpreter in every moment. This is how we let Him lead the way.

Trust in the Spirit of Love, Our True Identity

As peace extends from deep inside yourself to embrace all the Sonship and give it rest, [peace] will encounter many obstacles. Some [obstacles] you will try to impose. Others will seem to arise from elsewhere; from your brothers, and from various aspects of the world outside. Yet peace will gently cover [these obstacles], extending past completely unencumbered. The extension of the Holy Spirit’s purpose from your relationship to others, to bring them gently in, is the way in which He will bring means and goal in line. The peace He lay, deep within you and your brother, will quietly extend to every aspect of your life, surrounding you and your brother with glowing happiness and the calm awareness of complete protection. (A Course in Miracles T-19.IV.1:1-6)

When we are willing to accept Holy Spirit’s precious gift of peace, a sense of well-being and inner contentment comes with it. The beingness of our true Identity as the Spirit of Love comes with accepting peace. The fearful stories of vulnerability, weakness and death fall away. We know that we are safe in the certainty of God’s changeless Love.

As we become more willing to claim the peace of our true Identity, our trust in God replaces our misplaced trust in the ego’s false stories based on being separate from God. Our trust in the Spirit of Love we are shines away the old and tired attraction to the false images of separation from our Source. We value the peace of our true Identity more than we value the ever-changing fearful stories of sickness, vulnerability and death. The peace of our true Identity helps us see past bodies to the Spirit of Love that is eternal everywhere. We let peace embrace the whole Sonship and give it rest from all the turmoil of the world. We put peace first today.

Accepting True Perception

f you are willing to accept what is true in everything you perceive, you let it be true for you. Truth overcomes all error, and those who live in error and emptiness can never find lasting solace. If you perceive truly you are cancelling out misperceptions in yourself and in others simultaneously. Because you see them as they are, you offer them your acceptance of their truth so they can accept it for themselves. This is the healing that the miracle induces. (A Course in Miracales T-3.II.6:3-7)

While we believe we are on our own, it is impossible to perceive truly. True perception is based on the recognition of oneness. We connect with this recognition through the Holy Spirit in our mind, Who knows that only the oneness of Love is real.

To accept true perception, we must be willing to accept Holy Spirit’s vision. This vision will show us our innocence. It will show us the changeless in ourselves, our brothers and God. The more we maintain a state of peace, the more receptive we are to the Holy Spirit’s true perception. This is our practice today.

Vigilance for Thought Purification

Purify my thoughts, Holy Spirit. I am open to Your healing Light. I welcome thought reversal because I am willing to welcome the truth instead of illusions.

As I let my mind be purified, I remember that I am still as God created me and this truth applies to everyone in the dream. Everyone in this dream world of separation is still safe in the Mind of God. There is no death. The one Son of God is still as God created Him, right now. With this mind purification comes peace. In truth we all share the one Mind of God, because we are the one Mind of God. With this purification comes accepting Reality, now and for eternity. In this remembering there is only gratitude, peace and joy.

Joy and peace beyond words are the natural condition of the Kingdom of God, and of His one Son. To be vigilant for God and His Kingdom means that I measure every thought against the condition of the Kingdom. Does this thought foster joy and peace? If it does, it is worthy to be kept in the Mind of God’s Son. If it does not meet this standard, then the thought needs to be let go.

The Holy Spirit’s function in my mind is to help me in this evaluative process. Through my vigilance I accept His help, which will set me free.

Nothing Has Happened to Change God’s One Son

You are as God created you. Today honor your Self. Let graven images you made to be the Son of God instead of what he is be worshipped not today. Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you.

…Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today.

…This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.110.9:1-4;10:4;11:7)

The birth of Christ is the reawakening to the truth in our minds. As we accept that we are as God created us, we accept the one, loving Self that joins us all. We let go of all the false images that made it look like we were separate and alone. We give joyous welcome to the Love we are and see It everywhere. The appearance of conflict is replaced by the experience of peace. We remember that we remain as God created us. Nothing has happened to change God’s one Son.
