Choosing the Guide to Happiness

Your day is not at random. It is set by what you choose to live it with, and how the friend whose counsel you have sought perceives your happiness. You always ask advice before you can decide on anything.

You and your adviser must agree on what you want before it can occur. It is but this agreement that permits all things to happen. Nothing can be caused without some form of union, be it with a dream of judgment or the Voice for God.

It needs but two [you and your advisor, Holy Spirit] who would have happiness this day to promise it to all the world. It needs but two to understand that they cannot decide alone, to guarantee the joy they asked for will be wholly shared. For they have understood the basic law that makes decision powerful, and gives [the decision] all effects that it will ever have. It needs but two. These two are joined before there can be a decision. Let this be the one reminder that you keep in mind, and you will have the day you want, and give it to the world by having it yourself. Your judgment has been lifted from the world by your decision for a happy day. And as you have received, so must you give. (A Course in Miracles,T-30.I.15:1-3;16:2-2-4;17. Everything we experience is the effect of our choice of an advisor in our decisions. If we experience anything less than perfect peace and supreme joy, we have chosen the ego belief in separation as our advisor.

The ego is the denial of God’s Love and Its attributes of peace and joy. To maintain he ego’s status as our advisor, we must judge all things based on the belief that separation is real. The dream of a world of bodies and forms, conflict and guilt, is the result of this choice.

But we can choose a different advisor Who understands unequivocally that only Love is real. His advice will always guide us to see the Love in all things beyond the appearance of forms.

Let us dedicate today to letting the Holy Spirit advise us about all our perceptions, that we may see the truth. In the acceptance of truth, we will find the perfect happiness of God’s changeless Love.

Freeing Ourselves from Fear

Fear binds the world. Forgiveness sets it free.

The ego makes illusions. Truth undoes its evil dreams by shining them away. Truth never makes attack. It merely is. And by its presence is the mind recalled from fantasies, awaking to the real. Forgiveness bids [truth] enter in, and take its rightful place within the mind. Without forgiveness is the mind in chains, believing in its own futility. Yet with forgiveness does the light shine through the dream of darkness, offering it hope, and giving it the means to realize the freedom that is its inheritance.

We would not bind the world again today. Fear holds it prisoner. And yet Your Love has given us the means to set it free. Father, we would release it now. For as we offer freedom, it is given us. And we would not remain as prisoners, while You are holding freedom out to us. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 332,W-pII.332. See also ACIM Lesson 332 Insights.)

In every moment we have the means to free ourselves from fear. We need only let the Holy Spirit help us remember the truth that we remain changeless Love as Love created us. Fear always signals that we are believing in a false idea of what we are. We are not a body, weak and vulnerable, capable of harming or being harmed.

Today we choose to open our minds to the Holy Spirit’s vision to correct our misperceptions, our judgments, that we may free the world and ourselves from fear. His vision will show us the truth of our being as God’s one Son, at Home in Heaven.

From Conflict to Peace

The Holy Spirit teaches one lesson, and applies it to all individuals in all situations. Being conflict-free, He maximizes all efforts and all results. By teaching the power of the Kingdom of God Himself, He teaches you that all power is yours. Its application does not matter. It is always maximal. Your vigilance does not establish [the power of the Kingdom] as yours, but it does enable you to use it always and in all ways. When I said “I am with you always,” I meant it literally. I am not absent to anyone in any situation. Because I am always with you, you are the way, the truth and the life. You did not make this power, any more than I did. [The power of the Kingdom] was created to be shared, and therefore cannot be meaningfully perceived as belonging to anyone at the expense of another.

Because God’s equal Sons have everything, they cannot compete. Yet if they perceive any of their brothers as anything other than their perfect equals, the idea of competition has entered their minds. Do not underestimate your need to be vigilant against this idea, because all your conflicts come from it. It is the belief that conflicting interests are possible, and therefore you have accepted the impossible as true. (A Course in Miracles, T-7.III.1:1-11;3:3-6. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

All conflict comes from belief in differences. Yet there are no differences in God and therefore there are no differences in His Son. God has one Son Who shares all of God. This is key to understanding that peace comes from accepting our oneness and equality with every brother. There can be no conflict between what is all the same.

Any perception that perceives a brother as different or having different interests needs to be let go, forgiven. This is the journey the Course is guiding us on. It is a journey of letting go of a false belief in separation and accepting the unified power of the Kingdom as our own. It is a journey leading out of conflict into peace.

Freedom to Be Love and Nothing Else

could see peace instead of this. Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

It is your inner world to which the applications of today’s idea should be made.

Search your mind for fear thoughts, anxiety-provoking situations, “offending” personalities or events, or anything else about which you are harboring unloving thoughts.

The purpose is to protect yourself from temptation throughout the day. If a specific form of temptation arises in your awareness, the exercise should take this form:

I could see peace in this situation instead of what I now see in it.

It will help you if you tell yourself specifically:

I can replace my feelings of depression, anxiety or worry [or my thoughts about this situation, personality or event] with peace. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 34, W-pI.34.1:2-4;2:4;3:2;5:2-4;6:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 34 Insights.)

The Course tells us that peace and understanding always come together. This is why the practice of reminding ourselves that we could see peace in place of anything that disturbs our peace is essential to release ourselves from the limitations of the ego. Peace is the condition of knowledge; it is the condition of knowing that the peace of God is our own.

The practice of opening our minds to see peace in place of any disturbance is the means of returning to our true Home in the Heart of God. This practice will free us from the fear and guilt inherent in the ego thought system. It will free us from identifying with a false, separate identity. It will lead us to the full remembrance that we are Love and nothing else, for only Love is real.

Choosing the Path to Freedom

Henceforth, hear but the Voice for God and for your Self when you retire from the world, to seek reality instead. He will direct your efforts, telling you exactly what to do, how to direct your mind, and when to come to Him in silence, asking for His sure direction and His certain Word. His is the Word that God has given you. His is the Word you chose to be your own.

And now I place you in His hands, to be His faithful follower, with Him as Guide through every difficulty and all pain that you may think is real. Nor will He give you pleasures that will pass away, for He gives only the eternal and the good. Let Him prepare you further. He has earned your trust by speaking daily to you of your Father and your brother and your Self. He will continue. Now you walk with Him, as certain as is He of where you go; as sure as He of how you should proceed; as confident as He is of the goal, and of your safe arrival in the end.

You do not walk alone. God’s angels hover near and all about. His Love surrounds you, and of this be sure; that I will never leave you comfortless. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Epilogue, W-pII.ep.3:2-4:6;6:6-8)

We have a Friend ever present in our mind Whose sole purpose is to guide us back to full remembrance that we are at Home in Heaven, now. The antidote to all the perceive problems, pain, uncertainty, guilt and fear is to turn to our dear Friend for guidance in all things.

Today we choose the path to freedom. Today we choose to listen to the Voice for God, our true Friend. As we follow His lead, we walk steadily toward the peace and joy and Love of our Home in God. This is our choice today and every day.

The Key to Finding Happiness

[Your brother] is your savior from your specialness. He is in need of your acceptance of himself as part of you, as you for his. You [both] are alike to God as God is to Himself. He is not special, for He would not keep one part of what He is unto Himself…. And it is this you fear, for if He is not special, then He willed His Son to be like Him, and your brother is like you. Not special, but possessed of everything, including you. Give him [your brother] but what he has, remembering God gave Himself to you and your brother in equal Love, that both might share the universe with Him Who chose that Love could never be divided, and kept separate from what It is and must forever be.

The key you threw away God gave your brother, whose holy hands would offer it to you when you were ready to accept His plan for your salvation in the place of yours. How could this readiness be reached save through the sight of all your misery, and the awareness that your plan has failed, and will forever fail to bring you peace and joy of any kind? Through this despair you travel now, yet it is but illusion of despair. The death of specialness is not your death, but your awaking into life eternal. Do we experience peace that cannot be disturbed, indescribable joy and changeless Love without limit? If not, we have accepted a substitute plan for salvation that sets us apart as special and alone. This substitute plan offers empty gifts of specialness, which are illusions with no meaning or substance. This plan never satisfies and leads us on a constant search for peace and happiness where it cannot be found.

The images we treasure in this substitute plan must be defended because they cannot stand alone. This substitute plan brings fear with it, for certainty is impossible. Our experience in the world of vulnerability, lack, unworthiness, guilt and fear shows us that we are subscribing to a plan for our salvation that does not work. Its gifts are treacherous, for they deny the gifts of our Creator, which offer us Heaven as our Home.

We have the key standing with us in our brother. We need only let the Holy Spirit show us the truth of our brother, free from our projections of specialness, at one with us in God’s Love. We are learning that the substitute plan for happiness we have sought does not work. It is time to choose the plan already set in place by letting the Holy Spirit show us the Love that is our brother and ourself.

Our Journey of Awakening to Love

You are a stranger here. But you belong to Him Who loves you as He loves Himself. Ask but my help to roll the stone away, and it is done according to His Will. We have begun the journey. Long ago the end was written in the stars and set into the Heavens with a shining Ray that held it safe within eternity and through all time as well. And holds it still; unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable.

What is here begun will grow in life and strength and hope, until the world is still an instant and forgets all that the dream of sin had made of it.

Let us go out and meet the newborn world, knowing that Christ has been reborn in it, and that the holiness of this rebirth will last forever. We had lost our way but He has found it for us. Let us go and bid Him welcome Who returns to us to celebrate salvation and the end of all we thought we made. The morning star of this new day looks on a different world where God is welcomed and His Son with Him. We who complete Him offer thanks to Him, as He gives thanks to us. The Son is still, and in the quiet God has given him enters his home and is at peace at last. (A Course in Miracles,C-ep.2;4:7-5:6)

Christ is the one Self we share with all our brothers. Christ is the symbol of our sinlessness and changeless Love. To accept our true Self as our Identity is to accept Christ. It is our acceptance as our true Self that acknowledges our oneness with our Creator and with every brother. In oneness, there is no conflict. There is perfect stillness in the peace of God. This is our true Home, which we have never left in truth.

We have dreamt of another world of limitation and conflict. Here guilt and fear are our constant companion. There is a sense of being incomplete because the dream denies our completion in our Creator. We are on a constant quest to find what is “missing.” Yet it always seems to be beyond our reach.

We are now on a journey of awakening to leave this fearful dream behind. We have heard the call of our true Self, the Christ within. It calls us Home to remember that we remain Love as Love created us. We remain whole and complete in this Love. Illusions of incompletion and separation are fading now, for we are learning that we are indeed at Home now, in the loving embrace of God’s Love.
