Letting Peace and Joy Replace Illusions

I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

Today’s idea continues with the thought that joy and peace are not but idle dreams. ²They are your right, because of what you are. ³They come to you from God, Who cannot fail to give you what He wills. ⁴Yet must there be a place made ready to receive His gifts. ⁵They are not welcomed gladly by a mind that has instead received the gifts it made where His belong, as substitutes for them.

Today we would remove all meaningless and self-made gifts which we have placed upon the holy altar where God’s gifts belong. ²His are the gifts that are our own in truth. ³His are the gifts that we inherited before time was, and that will still be ours when time has passed into eternity. ⁴His are the gifts that are within us now, for they are timeless. ⁵And we need not wait to have them. ⁶They belong to us today.

So do we clear the way for Him today by simply recognizing that His Will is done already, and that joy and peace belong to us as His eternal gifts. …we bring to mind as often as we can:

⁴I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

The world is a dream with no reality in truth. It offers only form as substitutes for God’s gifts to us, His Son. Our attachments to these forms we want block our awareness of God’s gifts, which are already ours. Being illusions, forms are inherently temporary. They shift and change with every whim. Sometimes they seem to make us happy. Other times they make us sad or angry or guilty.  The forms seem to be the cause of every experience.

But these forms are projections from the mind we have accepted that seeks only specialness. The ego does not want the Reality of Love’s oneness. As long as we align with it, we will be unaware of the gifts God guarantees are ours.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of our attachments to form. As we let them go, God’s gifts of joy and peace will rise to our awareness. We will remember we are God’s Son, complete and healed and whole. We welcome His joy and peace.

Awakening to Our Home in Peace and Joy

The ego is insane. ²In fear it stands beyond the Everywhere, apart from All, in separation from the Infinite. ³In its insanity it thinks it has become a victor over God Himself.

The Son of God is egoless. ²What can he know of madness and the death of God, when he abides in Him? ³What can he know of sorrow and of suffering, when he lives in eternal joy? ⁴What can he know of fear and punishment, of sin and guilt, of hatred and attack, when all there is surrounding him is everlasting peace, forever conflict-free and undisturbed, in deepest silence and tranquility?

To know reality [Love] is not to see the ego and its thoughts, its works, its acts, its laws and its beliefs, its dreams, its hopes, its plans for its salvation, and the cost belief in it entails.

Yet will one lily of forgiveness change the darkness into light; the altar to illusions to the shrine of Life Itself. ²And peace will be restored forever to the holy minds which God created as His Son, His dwelling place, His joy, His love, completely His, completely one with Him. The Course directs us to affirm repeatedly that we are not a body. It also tells us that the body is the ego’s chosen home. The fact that we are not a body tells us that we are also not the ego. If we believe the body is our identity, we believe we are the ego. The consequence of this belief is the experience of pain, suffering and death, none of which is real.

Our true Home is a place of joy and indescribable peace. Neither joy nor peace nor Love are identified by form. With the Holy Spirit’s help we learn to overlook the body as having any meaning of its own. With His vision, we see only Love. When we forgive our attachment to any form, we let the Light of Love into our awareness.

Today we practice seeing the Love in every brother. If there is an appearance of conflict, we let the Holy Spirit help us answer with Love. With this practice, we will awaken to the Love we are. We will awaken to our Home in peace and joy.

Walking Toward Awareness of Love

Perception selects, and makes the world you see. ²It literally picks it out as the mind directs. ³The laws of size and shape and brightness would hold, perhaps, if other things were equal. ⁴They are not equal. ⁵For what you look for you are far more likely to discover than what you would prefer to overlook. ⁶The still, small Voice for God is not drowned out by all the ego’s raucous screams and senseless ravings to those who want to hear It. ⁷Perception is a choice and not a fact. ⁸But on this choice depends far more than you may realize as yet. ⁹For on the voice you choose to hear, and on the sights you choose to see, depends entirely your whole belief in what you are. ¹⁰Perception is a witness but to this, and never to reality.

Reality needs no cooperation from you to be itself. ²But your awareness of it needs your help, because it is your choice. ³Listen to what the ego says, and see what it directs you see, and it is sure that you will see yourself as tiny, vulnerable and afraid. ⁴You will experience depression, a sense of worthlessness, and feelings of impermanence and unreality.

There is another vision and another Voice in which your freedom lies, awaiting but your choice. ²And if you place your faith in Them, you will perceive another self in you. ³This other self sees miracles as natural. ⁴They are as simple and as natural to it as breathing to the body. ⁵They are the obvious response to calls for help, the only one it makes. ⁶Miracles seem unnatural to the ego because it does not understand how separate minds can influence each other. ⁷Nor could they do so. ⁸But minds cannot be separate. ⁹This other self is perfectly aware of this. ¹⁰And thus it recognizes that miracles do not affect another’s mind, only its own. ¹¹They always change your mind. ¹²There is no other. Our perception is the effect of what we want to see. This fact explains why we perceive a world where conflict is possible, differences appear real and fear and guilt are justified. A Course in Miracles is dedicated to help us realize that all we really want is to remember that we are Love, united with All That Is and Its oneness. We need to realize that what we believe we want is interfering with our awareness that we remain Love and nothing else.

The desire for Love remains hidden by the wish to have more than everything — more than unlimited Love. Yet the Love we are has not been lost. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to learn that we already are what we seek, our awareness of the Love in our brothers replaces the perception of differences.

The awareness of Love grows stronger as we let our minds be healed of misperceptions. We increasingly recognize calls for Love in others or ourselves and let Love answer. Love becomes prominent in our mind and belief in differences fades. We walk with the Holy Spirit toward awareness of the Love that unites us with All That Is.

Freeing Ourselves to Receive God’s Love

⁵How foolish to believe that They could die! ⁶How foolish to believe you can attack! ⁷How mad to think that you could be condemned, and that the holy Son of God can die!

The stillness of your Self remains unmoved, untouched by thoughts like these, and unaware of any condemnation which could need forgiveness. ²Dreams of any kind are strange and alien to the truth. ³And what but truth could have a Thought which builds a bridge to it that brings illusions to the other side?

²The truth bestows these words upon your mind, that you may find the key to light and let the darkness end:

³Only my condemnation injures me.
⁴Only my own forgiveness sets me free.

⁵Do not forget today that there can be no form of suffering that fails to hide an unforgiving thought. ⁶Nor can there be a form of pain forgiveness cannot heal.

Accept the one illusion which proclaims there is no condemnation in God’s Son, and Heaven is remembered instantly; the world forgotten, all its weird beliefs forgotten with it, as the face of Christ appears unveiled at last in this one dream. ²This is the gift the Holy Spirit holds for you from God your Father. ³Let today be celebrated both on earth and in your holy home as well. ⁴Be kind to Both, as you forgive the trespasses you thought Them guilty of, and see your innocence shining upon you from the face of Christ. The wish to have any form or situation be the way we want it to be is an unforgiving thought. At its core is the wish for specialness, which condemns the changeless unity of Love we are as unwanted. It is a choice for illusions in place of Reality. It fosters a constant search for love, but looks for it in forms, where it cannot be found.

Each time we let go of wanting a situation to appear a certain way, wanting someone to behave as we would like, or to have something we can call our own, we set our self free from attachment to illusions. We open the door that welcomes the Love that is forever ours.

Our Real Existence Is Only Love

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.

An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgment that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true. ²The mind is closed, and will not be released.

²In frantic action [an unforgiving thought] pursues its goal, twisting and overturning what it sees as interfering with its chosen path. ³Distortion is its purpose…

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still, and quietly does nothing. ²It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes. ³It merely looks, and waits, and judges not. …who would forgive himself must learn to welcome truth exactly as it is. (W-pII.1.1:1–2:2;3:2-3;4:1-3,5;)

Judgement is the bane of our existence. It is the cause of all our suffering, fear, guilt and sense of loss. Our real existence is Love and union with our Creator. Our true Self sees only Love and knows there is nothing to forgive. Nothing has changed God’s one Son. When we let go of judgment completely — when we have forgiven everything and let our true existence be — we know that we are Love and nothing else. This is why forgiveness is the key to happiness and peace of mind.

We Are Safe in the Certainty of God

[“I am spirit”] identifies you with your one Self. ²It accepts no split identity, nor tries to weave opposing factors into unity. ³It simply states the truth. ⁴Practice this truth today as often as you can, for it will bring your mind from conflict to the quiet fields of peace.

²You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. ³You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. ⁴He is with you always, as you are with Him.

³He will offer all His strength to every little effort that you make. ⁴Give Him the minutes which He needs today, to help you understand with Him you are the spirit that abides in Him, and that calls through His Voice to every living thing; offers His sight to everyone who asks; replaces error with the simple truth.

²Spirit am I, a holy Son of God, free of all limits, safe and healed and whole, free to forgive, and free to save the world.

We are Spirit, dwelling in the Heart of God, our Creator. The Spirit we are is in peace eternally. The Spirit we are has no limits. It does not change nor suffer loss. It sees no need to seek anything, for It is eternally complete and whole. It is joyful in Its eternal extension of the Love It is.

This is the Self, the Son of God, we are called upon today to accept and acknowledge as our Identity. In this acceptance we accept All That Is and entertain no illusions of differences or change. We know we are safe in the certainty of God.

Our Personal Curriculum for Mind Healing

⁵It is not our part to judge our worth, nor can we know what role is best for us; what we can do within a larger plan we cannot see in its entirety. ⁶Our part is cast in Heaven, not in hell.

Whatever your appointed role may be, it was selected by the Voice for God, Whose function is to speak for you as well. ²Seeing your strengths exactly as they are, and equally aware of where they can be best applied, for what, to whom and when, He chooses and accepts your part for you.

It is through His ability to hear one Voice which is His Own that you become aware at last there is one Voice in you. ²And that one Voice appoints your function, and relays it to you, giving you the strength to understand it, do what it entails, and to succeed in everything you do that is related to it. ³God has joined His Son in this, and thus His Son becomes His messenger of unity with Him.

²It is this Voice which speaks of laws the world does not obey; which promises salvation from all sin, with guilt abolished in the mind that God created sinless. ³Now this mind becomes aware again of Who created it, and of His lasting union with itself. ⁴So is its Self the one reality in which its will and that of God are joined. We all have a purpose, a role to play in bringing healing to the world. In the world, these roles seem to be different. But the underlying purpose is the same — to recognize that we are all united in the oneness of Love. This is God’s Will for us, for He wills that we remain eternally united in His Love.

To guide us in fulfilling our purpose, we are given the Voice for God. This Voice could be called an intermediary between God and the part of His Son that has forgotten Who he is. The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to teach us to distinguish what is true from what is false. With His help, we learn to let go of our investment in the forms of the world and let the Light of Love in every brother have our full attention.

The way in which we accomplish this awareness is tailored to the needs we believe we have as a separate identity. It is our personal curriculum which leads us to experiences that help us learn the truth that we are Love and nothing else. Every experience is a lesson God would have us learn.
