Seeing the Love Beyond the Ego’s Veil

God is my strength. ²Vision is His gift.

³Let me not look to my own eyes to see today. ⁴Let me be willing to exchange my pitiful illusion of seeing for the vision that is given by God. ⁵Christ’s vision is His gift, and He has given it to me. ⁶Let me call upon this gift today, so that this day may help me to understand eternity.

God is my Source. ²I cannot see apart from Him.

³I can see what God wants me to see. ⁴I cannot see anything else. ⁵Beyond His Will lie only illusions. ⁶It is these I choose when I think I can see apart from Him. ⁷It is these [illusions] I choose when I try to see through the body’s eyes. ⁸Yet the vision of Christ has been given me to replace [the body’s eyes]. ⁹It is through this vision that I choose to see.

God is the light in which I see.

²I cannot see in darkness. ³God is the only light. ⁴Therefore, if I am to see, it must be through Him. ⁵I have tried to define what seeing is, and I have been wrong. ⁶Now it is given me to understand that God is the light in which I see. ⁷Let me welcome vision and the happy world it will show me. We have trained ourselves to trust that what the body’s eyes show us is real. We have also taught ourselves that what cannot be sensed through the body is unreal and should not be trusted. This is part of the ego thought system which denies the reality of Love and offers made-up images as a substitute for God’s Creation. By definition, what is made up is not real.

We have wrapped ourselves in an illusionary world as a defense against the reality of God’s Love. The ego would like us to believe that this defense is impenetrable. Yet the vision of Christ has been given us in our mind. It is the means we have to see beyond the ego’s defenses.

Broadway theaters sometimes use a veil as a backdrop with images projected on it that can be changed for each scene. But if the space behind the veil is lit, the projections on the veil fade and what is behind the veil can be easily seen.

The Light of God illuminates what is beyond the veil. Christ’s vision uses this light to show us that beyond the veil and all its changing images lies the changeless, eternal, all encompassing Love of God. Today we practice opening our mind to Christ’s vision, for we want to remember the truth that we are God’s Son, eternally united with Him. We remain safe in His changeless Love.

Remembering Our Safety in God’s Love

In quiet I receive God’s Word today.

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening. ²Your Father wills you hear His Word today. ³He calls to you from deep within your mind where He abides. ⁴Hear Him today. ⁵No peace is possible until His Word is heard around the world; until your mind, in quiet listening, accepts the message that the world must hear to usher in the quiet time of peace.

This world will change through you. ²No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. ³He is not led by force, but only love. ⁴He is not judged, but only sanctified.

In stillness we will hear God’s Voice today without intrusion of our petty thoughts, without our personal desires, and without all judgment of His holy Word. ²We will not judge ourselves today, for what we are can not be judged. ³We stand apart from all the judgments which the world has laid upon the Son of God. ⁴It knows him not. ⁵Today we will not listen to the world, but wait in silence for the Word of God. God’s Voice only seems to be deep within our minds because His presence has been overlaid with layers of the ego’s denial of Love. God’s presence can be covered over with illusions but cannot be eliminated because only His Love is real.

God has given us His Word to guide us through these layers that seem real only because of our belief in them. His Word, the Holy Spirit, teaches us to sort out the false from the true. With His help, we forgive the mistaken beliefs to make way for the Light of Love to shine through.

We welcome Holy Spirit’s guidance by quieting our mind. As we take time to pause and let our mind be quiet, we pass by the ego’s thoughts of fear and guilt to the lessons in Love the Holy Spirit teaches.

When we let Love guide our perceptions, we see a different world. We see past the illusions of division and destruction. We learn that they are deceptions which have no effect on the truth that we, along with every brother, are united in Love. Harm is impossible to the Son of God who remains eternally united with his Creator.

We remember our perfect safety and rest serenely in the peace of God. We bring salvation to the world as we accept the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love.

The Purpose of Our Journey of Return

Behold your Friend, the Christ Who stands beside you. ²How holy and how beautiful He is!

²Think who your brother is, before you would condemn him. ³And offer thanks to God that he is holy, and has been given the gift of holiness for you. ⁴Join him in gladness, and remove all trace of guilt from his disturbed and tortured mind. ⁵Help him to lift the heavy burden of sin you laid upon him and he accepted as his own, and toss it lightly and with happy laughter away from him.

Together we will disappear into the Presence beyond the veil, not to be lost but found; not to be seen [as separate] but known [as one]. ²And knowing, nothing in the plan God has established for salvation will be left undone. ³This is the journey’s purpose, without which is the journey meaningless. ⁴Here is the peace of God, given to you eternally by Him. ⁵Here is the rest and quiet that you seek, the reason for the journey from its beginning. ⁶Heaven is the gift you owe your brother, the debt of gratitude you offer to the Son of God in thanks for what he is, and what his Father created him to be. The only meaningful purpose for our journey through time and space is to forgive the belief that separation from our Source is possible. Without the interference of this belief, our brother is recognized as one with us. He can no more be sinful than God. To accept this is to accept our Self as God’s one Son, united with every brother.

As we let the Holy Spirit show us the innocence of Christ in our brother, we we see that innocence in our Self. Today is a day to welcome the gift every brother offers us by seeing past the veil of separation to the oneness we share with him and God. This is the purpose of our journey of return to our Home in Heaven.

Remembering Who Is Our Daddy

Let me remember God created me.

Father, I did not make myself, although in my insanity I thought I did. ²Yet, as Your Thought, I have not left my Source, remaining part of Who created me. ³Your Son, my Father, calls on You today. ⁴Let me remember You created me. ⁵Let me remember my Identity. ⁶And let my sinlessness arise again before Christ’s vision, through which I would look upon my brothers and myself today.

Now is our Source remembered, and Therein we find our true Identity at last. ²Holy indeed are we, because our Source can know no sin. ³And we who are His Sons are like each other, and alike to Him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 260. See also ACIM Lesson 260 Insights.)

If we believe the world we see through the body’s eyes is real, we suffer from an identity crisis. We have denied our true Identity. What remains is but an ephemeral fantasy of a substitute identity that seems to change with the mood of the hour. This fantasy is vulnerable to apparent attacks from other identities, machines, politics, weather, even the earth. Nothing is stable in this fantasy. Anxiety and uncertainty are ever present. This need not be.

Our true Identity is as changeless as God Himself, for It is one with Him. We share His power and His eternal Love, His sinlessness and peace. We join with Him in the joyful, eternal extension of Love. Suffering is impossible when we accept our Identity as God’s Creation, His Son. We remember our Identity by forgiving the fantasy conjured by the ego’s wish to be separate. Our acceptance of our eternal oneness with our Creator is our salvation.

God’s Strength and Vision Are Ours Now

God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

The idea for today combines two very powerful thoughts, both of major importance. ²It also sets forth a cause and effect relationship that explains why you cannot fail in your efforts to achieve the goal of the course. ³You will see because it is the Will of God. ⁴It is His strength, not your own, that gives you power. ⁵And it is His gift, rather than your own, that offers vision to you.

God is indeed your strength, and what He gives is truly given. ²This means that you can receive it any time and anywhere, wherever you are, and in whatever circumstance you find yourself. ³Your passage through time and space is not at random. ⁴You cannot but be in the right place at the right time. ⁵Such is the strength of God. ⁶Such are His gifts.

…think of nothing except thoughts that occur to you in relation to the idea for the day.

²You may, in fact, be astonished at the amount of course-related understanding some of your thoughts contain.

²Try merely to step back and let the thoughts come.

²The idea for the day is a beginning step in bringing thoughts together, and teaching you that you are studying a unified thought system in which nothing is lacking that is needed, and nothing is included that is contradictory or irrelevant. Whenever we are feeling uncertain, we are denying God’s gift of all of His strength. God is not uncertain and He shares His certainty with His Creation. His vision sees only His Love. Nothing else exists. His Love is absolutely certain because it is wholly unified and always the same. When we accept His gift of vision, we see what He sees — Love and nothing else.

Uncertainty comes when we have accepted barriers to Love in our mind. The Course is teaching us how to let go of these barriers to remember only Love is real. In this remembrance we experience the peace of God.

Remembering God Is Always with Us

Deep within you is everything that is perfect, ready to radiate through you and out into the world. ²It will cure all sorrow and pain and fear and loss because it will heal the mind that thought these things were real, and suffered out of its allegiance to them.

²You can never suffer because the Source of all joy goes with you wherever you go. ³You can never be alone because the Source of all life goes with you wherever you go. ⁴Nothing can destroy your peace of mind because God goes with you wherever you go.

It is quite possible to reach God. ²In fact it is very easy, because it is the most natural thing in the world. ³You might even say it is the only natural thing in the world. ⁴The way will open, if you believe that it is possible. ⁵This exercise can bring very startling results even the first time it is attempted, and sooner or later it is always successful.

You can indeed afford to laugh at fear thoughts, remembering that God goes with you wherever you go. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 41, W-41.3;4:2-4;8:1-5;10. See also ACIM Lesson 41 Insights.)

Our allegiance to the ego has cost us awareness of God’s peace and joy. We have hidden His gifts under a heavy blanket of denial. For the ego is the denial of God.

It is impossible to change God. His Love remains changeless and His gifts are given eternally. But our mind is very powerful. When its allegiance is given to false beliefs, a false world seems real and inevitable. Were it possible to change God and His creation, we would have condemned ourselves eternally to the hell of the ego’s lovelessness. But we remain as God created us, unchanged and wholly loving, at one with our Source.

Our mistaken beliefs can be undone and God has given us the Help we need. As we remind ourselves frequently today that God goes with us wherever we go, we open our mind to His Help. We are never lost or alone. We call upon His Help as we remind ourselves that God is with us, lovingly offering His helping Hand to lift us out of the darkness we have made up.

We take His Hand today to accept His strength and guidance to lead us back to the full awareness that we are God’s Son, safe, whole and at Home.

Being a Messenger of Love

The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways, beyond the laws of time and space, unbound by any preconceptions, and with strength and power to do whatever it is asked. ²Attack thoughts cannot enter such a mind, because it has been given to the Source of love, and fear can never enter in a mind that has attached itself to love. ³It rests in God. ⁴And who can be afraid who lives in Innocence, and only loves?

²Declare your innocence and you are free. ³The body disappears, because you have no need of it except the need the Holy Spirit sees. ⁴For this, the body will appear as useful form for what the mind must do. ⁵It thus becomes a vehicle which helps forgiveness be extended to the all-inclusive goal that it must reach, according to God’s plan.

You are God’s Son. ²In immortality you live forever. ³Would you not return your mind to this? ⁴Then practice well the thought the Holy Spirit gives you for today. ⁵Your brothers stand released with you in it; the world is blessed along with you, God’s Son will weep no more, and Heaven offers thanks for the increase of joy your practice brings even to it. ⁶And God Himself extends His Love and happiness each time you say:

⁷I am not a body. ⁸I am free. ⁹I hear the Voice that God has given me, and it is only this my mind obeys. (A Course in Miracles, W-199.2;4:2-5;8A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 199, )

The key to awakening to our freedom is to listen only to the Voice for God. The body cannot hear the Voice for God for it was made by the ego to limit communication. What is in opposition to God cannot hear His Voice. The ego’s opposition to God is opposition to freedom. It is a jailer, committed to denying Love’ presence and the Home God created for His Son.

When we listen to the ego, we walk a path of fear and guilt, weakness and sickness, even unto death. We need not walk this path. When we choose the Voice for God, we walk a path to happiness and peace. We walk in Love and innocence, which we share with every brother. Temptations to perceive separation are forgiven with the Holy Spirit’s help. We become messengers of Love to the world and bring every brother with us Home to Love.
